Chapter 50: Elder Sister of a Brother-Obsessed Family X University Professor
Xie Yingran looked at the two people in front of her, clearly stunned for a moment, then showed a knowing smile: “I was wondering who could labor the great Miss Jiang to come pick up, and it turns out to be our little genius girl.”
Ruan Jiyun also recognized the other person’s identity and greeted her in an embarrassed, low voice: “Teacher Xie…”
Well, that was great. Her attempt at a territorial display failed, and she was caught being possessive by a teacher.
Jiang Peifeng, however, acted as if she hadn’t noticed the little white flower’s internal collapse, and casually patted Ruan Jiyun’s hand: “We’ll drop off Teacher Xie first, and then I’ll take you to dinner. Is that okay?”
The tenderness in her tone was clearly evident. Xie Yingran pursed her lips and smiled, proactively opening the back car door: “Alright, so as not to make the child nervous, can you sit in the front, Xiao Ruan?”
Throughout the ride, Ruan Jiyun felt too shy to speak, only listening quietly as Xie Yingran and Jiang Peifeng chatted. They spoke quickly, interspersed with many technical terms Ruan Jiyun didn’t quite understand. Occasionally, they would share a meaningful laugh when a certain keyword came up. However, Xie Yingran did not neglect Ruan Jiyun, sometimes deliberately throwing a topic her way out of consideration.
It was a very mature and natural way of socializing, but because it was so effortless, it made Ruan Jiyun feel even more frustrated.
Compared to a real adult, she was too far behind. She wasn’t very good at socializing, nor could she communicate so seamlessly on academic topics. Even though she was trying hard to keep up with Jiang Peifeng’s pace, there was still a six-year gap between them. No matter how fast she ran, the path ahead seemed endlessly long.
As they neared the destination, Xie Yingran proactively invited them: “You must be hungry, right? There’s a good Chaoshan Beef Hot Pot near my house. Why don’t I treat you to a meal?”
Jiang Peifeng had been paying attention to Ruan Jiyun throughout the drive. Seeing the little white flower was quiet and remembering her reluctance to socialize with strangers, she smiled and declined: “Another time.”
She stroked the top of the little girl’s head: “It’s rare to have time off. I need to spend time with her properly today.”
Unconsciously, time had moved into the new semester of sophomore year. Perhaps having finally adapted to the rhythm of university life, the number of couples on campus surged. Ruan Jiyun’s roommate, Su Xinyue, became the first girl in their dorm to start dating.
The boy pursuing her was a junior from the Finance department. After a few secretive dates, the girl finally shed her shyness and, facing the good-natured teasing of her roommates, began to speak with the attitude of an expert: “University is an important stage in life. Falling in love is… quite normal…”
They didn’t have classes that afternoon, so the girls went shopping in the city center together. Next month was the National Day holiday, and Su Xinyue and her boyfriend planned to go to the seaside. She intended to buy a new dress for the trip, but after trying on several, she still couldn’t decide, so she looked at Ruan Jiyun: “Xiao Yun, which one do you think is best?”
Ruan Jiyun had never paid much attention to fashion; most of her clothes were bought by Jiang Peifeng. She looked confused and said: “I think any of them are fine.”
“The genius girl only thinks about studying,” another roommate smiled, offering a playful explanation. “What Yue’er is doing is dressing for her beloved…”
Su Xinyue laughed too. Girls in love always wanted to share their happiness: “If I had a face like Xiao Yun’s, I could also say any of them are fine. But… my boyfriend told me there are several boys in his department who have a crush on you! Are you really not interested in dating?”
Ruan Jiyun thought for a moment. Although the university atmosphere was quite open now, her liking for Jiang Peifeng was not something that could be easily discussed in public. She said softly: “It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just… I don’t think I’m good enough yet.”
The girls perked up their ears for gossip. Su Xinyue’s eyes widened: “If you say that, you must have someone you like!”
She scampered over and held Ruan Jiyun’s arm: “Let me tell you, when it comes to feelings, you have to strike while the iron is hot! If you are too reserved, someone else might get there first…”
This statement clearly struck a nerve with Ruan Jiyun. It had been over a year since she came to A City, and there was still an indescribable gap between her and Jiang Peifeng. Several times, she felt that Jiang Peifeng clearly favored her, yet always maintained a restrained, safe distance.
Could it be, as Su Xinyue said, because I’m too reserved? Thinking this, she asked seriously: “How do I strike first?”
Among the group, the only person with any claim to experience was Su Xinyue, whose relationship was only a little over a month old. But seeing the straight-A student asking her for advice, Su Xinyue was immediately filled with a sense of mission, eager to share all her experience.
“You can’t wait passively, you have to take the initiative!”
“Sometimes all ambiguity needs is a catalyst…”
After sharing for a long time without coming to a conclusion, Su Xinyue finally stamped her foot: “Seduce him! You’re so beautiful, you don’t have to do anything. Just a little hint, and that boy will probably lose control…”
This topic was both bold and filled with shyness. Ruan Jiyun’s cheeks flushed crimson. Just imagining the scene made her embarrassed, but she vaguely felt that Su Xinyue had a point. Recently, Jiang Peifeng had run into Xie Yingran several times when picking her up. Whether intentional or not, Ruan Jiyun found the sight of the two of them together extremely jarring.
Teacher Xie was undoubtedly a mature beauty compared to herself. If Jiang Peifeng spent more time with her, what if she developed feelings for her?
After the group chattered through lunch, Su Xinyue took them to a lingerie shop and grandly waved her hand: “A super important part of relationship preparation—choosing your battle attire!”
Thinking back, Jiang Peifeng had bought Ruan Jiyun many things over the past two years, from winter down jackets to summer dresses, but perhaps due to their relationship dynamic, she had omitted the one item: lingerie.
Ruan Jiyun silently stared at the array of lingerie on the shelves, feeling dizzy: “So many styles…”
She realized for the first time that there were so many types of lingerie: silk, pure cotton. The soft macaron colors possessed a youthful sweetness, while the blush-inducing lace styles were full of temptation. She hesitantly looked at the sheer fabrics on the crystal hangers, imagining herself wearing them, and her face flushed again.
Su Xinyue was extremely enthusiastic. After buying her own, she proactively helped Ruan Jiyun choose: “Your skin is fair. This peacock blue is super sexy! And this half-cup style is great too. It lifts and makes things look bigger. The effect is amazing!”
These were all completely foreign concepts to Ruan Jiyun. She could only nod blankly, then Su Xinyue stuffed a piece of lingerie into her hand, and Ruan Jiyun dazedly walked into the fitting room.
When she finally saw what was in her hand, she instantly felt her blood rush to her head, burning hot.
This was too… bold?
After trying on the lingerie, Ruan Jiyun bravely looked at the person in the mirror. The girl’s cheeks were flushed, like burning peaches.
She barely remembered how she came out of the fitting room. Su Xinyue smiled and handed her another item: “Matching bra and panties doubles the effect!”
So the two items were wrapped in tissue paper by the sales clerk, carefully placed in a pink paper bag tied with a bow. Carrying the light bag felt like carrying a delicious dessert. Ruan Jiyun walked out of the store, feeling her heart still rapidly pounding.
This was the first time she had bought herself such… bold… lingerie.
What would Jiang Peifeng say if she saw it? She lowered her head, even her earlobes burning.
Perhaps sensing the thoughts in her heart, Jiang Peifeng called her the next afternoon. Her voice over the phone was melodious and soft, seemingly in excellent spirits: “It’s your birthday this weekend. Want me to take you to an amusement park?”
For some reason, Ruan Jiyun was currently sensitive about “amusement park” plans. She felt she was being too childish, which was why Jiang Peifeng always treated her like a child. She said softly: “I don’t want to go to an amusement park.”
“Where do you want to go?” Jiang Peifeng asked. “Anything you want, Xiao Yun.”
Ruan Jiyun said: “Then… can we go home for my birthday? I want to cook a meal for you,” she was a little nervous, but still rushed out the prepared words, “Just the two of us celebrating would be perfect.”
Jiang Peifeng always indulged her and readily agreed: “The birthday girl wants to cook? Alright, then I’ll try my best to be your sous-chef.”
Saturday arrived quickly, and the weather was a bright, sunny day. Ruan Jiyun woke up early in the morning, first blushing as she folded the washed “battle attire” repeatedly, stuffing it into the deepest part of her backpack, and then placing several books on top of it as if in relief before zipping it up.
Less than two minutes later, as if remembering something, she hastily took the books out.
I must be an idiot. These textbooks are so heavy. What if I squash the winning battle attire out of shape?
She looked at her flat backpack, feeling helpless, and finally came up with a solution: she stuffed several newly bought packs of sanitary napkins into the bag. This was light and helped prop the bag up.
Ruan Jiyun was satisfied with her work. Just then, her phone rang. She rushed to answer it, grabbed the bulging yet light bag, and flew out of the dorm.
Jiang Peifeng was indeed waiting downstairs. Seeing her little white flower rushing out, a smile spread across her face. She habitually took the backpack from Ruan Jiyun’s hand, pausing slightly: “Huh? The backpack is very light today?”
To confirm her observation, she subconsciously weighed the backpack in her hand.
Ruan Jiyun watched, her breath catching. She practically snatched the backpack back, clutching it tightly to her chest: “It’s not… not heavy! I can carry it myself!”
Jiang Peifeng found this amusing. She reached out and stroked the top of her head: “What did you put in your bag? Are you afraid I’ll check it?”
Immediately, she felt the soft, downy little white flower tremble under her palm. Ruan Jiyun’s voice died in her throat, her face flushed red without realizing it.
Jiang Peifeng gently curved her lips and continued to stroke her hair in amusement. The girl’s smooth, long hair felt wonderful to the touch. Like petting a kitten, her fingertips inadvertently brushed Ruan Jiyun’s fair, jade-like earlobe. Suddenly, she mischievously pinched that ear, and as expected, saw a blush spread from her cheeks, coloring her ear red.
Ignoring the almost inaudible, faint resistance from Ruan Jiyun next to her ear, Jiang Peifeng distinctly heard her own heart give a great echo.
Her little white flower was truly becoming more and more adorable, so much so that she couldn’t help but… want to devour her immediately.
