- Chapter 70 - That Woman Is Truly Terrifying!
That afternoon, Xia Mingtang skipped work and drove aimlessly around Rong City. Without realizing it, she found herself back at her alma mater.
It had only been two years since graduation, and every blade of grass and tree still felt familiar.
She strolled along the tree-lined path. Not far ahead was an activity corner, with several clubs recruiting new members.
It was here, after all, that she had once chased down An Ran single-handedly and, with her sharp tongue, persuaded her to join the team—thus becoming allies.
Now…
The past could not be revisited. Xia Mingtang wasn’t here to reminisce either. She was simply frustrated and wanted a place to clear her mind.
The surrounding chatter of youthful students was lively but not annoying; on the contrary, it temporarily calmed her restless thoughts.
She walked until she reached the wall of honor, which displayed photos of outstanding graduates over the years.
Although her own photo wasn’t there, she recognized several familiar faces, which felt heartwarming.
An Ran, Shi Shi, Xiao You…
Bored, she started counting the familiar faces in front of the wall.
“Xia Mingtang.” A kind voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Professor Zhong.” Xia Mingtang turned around and politely greeted the visitor.
Professor Zhong, now in her sixties, had been rehired by the school to teach. She was petite, with half of her hair turned white, yet still looked energetic.
She had taught Xia Mingtang’s major courses for two years and had taken good care of her.
A few days ago, when Xia Mingtang wanted to apply to study abroad, she had first asked Professor Zhong for help.
Looking at her student—now more mature and composed than before—Professor Zhong smiled warmly.
“It’s rare to see you back at school. Among your cohort, you were the least interested in studying, yet now you’ve worked hard enough to be admitted to Kenneford University. That’s impressive.”
Xia Mingtang had been listening obediently, but froze when she heard the last sentence.
“Kenneford?”
Professor Zhong laughed and patted her shoulder. “You don’t need to be modest in front of me. You asked me to write a recommendation letter for Stanny University, and they were quite satisfied with you.
“But rules at top foreign universities are strict. Since you already have admission to another school of the same level, you couldn’t apply elsewhere.
“To be honest, Kenneford is even better than Stanny. Well done!”
Xia Mingtang was puzzled. She had never applied to Kenneford.
After a brief chat, she said goodbye to Professor Zhong and immediately checked Kenneford University’s official website on her phone.
The list of new students was easy to find, and soon enough, she saw her name.
Clicking on it, she could verify the personal information and rule out the possibility of someone with the same name.
Applying to a university required submitting a lot of private data. For someone to obtain all this without her knowledge… only a person with extraordinary capabilities could have done it.
Even thinking about it made her spine chill.
That woman… was truly terrifying!
Xia Mingtang had never felt such a desperate desire to escape as she did now.
If before she simply wished for freedom, now she only wanted to breathe freely before being completely swallowed.
But the path of studying abroad had already been blocked.
Since she knew who had arranged her enrollment at Kenneford, she could never naïvely attend that school.
Even if she planned to enroll first and then withdraw to apply elsewhere, having this inexplicable record would make other schools cautious.
She wasn’t outstanding enough to warrant extraordinary effort; if she withdrew from Kenneford, professors might think she was unstable, making future recommendation letters difficult to obtain.
Still, she had many friends. Even if she didn’t study abroad, she wouldn’t be left without options outside Qin Yan and the Xia family.
But thinking back to the recent birthday party, her social network had long been known to Qin Yan.
She hadn’t thought much at the time, and even felt a little touched.
Looking back now, it had been foolish.
Yet escaping that person on her own was impossible. She needed external help—help from outside her usual social network.
As Xia Mingtang thought, she lowered her head while walking… and suddenly collided with someone.
Xia Mingtang returned to West Well Villa late that day, fortunately without Qin Yan being as strict as before.
“Did you have a busy day at work, Tangtang?” Qin Yan was sitting on the sofa, peeling an orange. Her delicate fingers sliced the golden peel, revealing the glistening fruit beneath.
Her movements were unhurried, the lighting highlighting her gentle profile, looking wholesome and harmless.
“Yes.” Xia Mingtang took the segment Qin Yan handed her and followed up, “The senior went abroad, and now the company lacks leadership. It’s a mess.”
“Don’t worry, Tangtang.” Qin Yan deliberately fed her an orange slice, speaking considerately.
“I’ve already hired a professional manager—K University Master in Management, eight years of experience. Tomorrow she’ll report to your company.”
Xia Mingtang chewed the segment reluctantly and spoke hesitantly, “With her qualifications, isn’t this a bit overqualified for my position?”
“No.” Qin Yan wiped the juice from her wife’s lips, indulging her. “She can help you, and that’s all that matters.”
“Then… thank you.” Xia Mingtang didn’t want to argue. She knew soon she wouldn’t have time to oversee the company anyway.
“You don’t need to thank me.”
Qin Yan finished feeding the last slice, wiped her fingers, and drew Xia Mingtang into her embrace.
“When we finish our work in a couple of days, let’s go abroad together. It’s the season when the grapes in Tonicas are ripe. I have a villa there where we can stay for a while.”
Tonicas was near Kenneford University.
Xia Mingtang, held tightly, struggled in vain and could only look up at Qin Yan.
“You’ve been to Tonicas, so you must have had the chance to visit Kenneford University.”
“Not just visit.” Qin Tian stroked Xia Mingtang’s ear, speaking casually.
“I have some connections with the vice president there. If you ever want to stay at Kenneford for a while, it’s possible.”
Xia Mingtang: …
She wasn’t even hiding it anymore.
Seeing her wife’s silence, Qin Yan stopped talking and focused on teasing her playfully.
What she had done regarding Xia Mingtang’s study abroad wasn’t meant to be kept secret forever. After all, the new student list wasn’t confidential between schools.
Since her little fox had already noticed, it was better to be upfront.
Qin Yan didn’t see anything wrong with this. She wasn’t against her wife’s wish to study abroad; she just wanted it under her watch.
This was the greatest concession she could make.
But Xia Mingtang didn’t think so. She hadn’t insisted on studying abroad; she simply wanted to temporarily escape for a breath of freedom.
Qin Yan’s actions, however, instilled fear.
Her reach was far too long!
Wait!
That afternoon, Xia Mingtang learned about Kenneford from Professor Zhong, and that evening Qin Yan confessed it herself.
The last time such a coincidence happened…
That afternoon, she learned about the 51% shares from An Ran, and that evening Qin Yan gifted her the shares for her birthday.
The time before that, on Cangcui Mountain…
[The forest is so dense, the visibility isn’t good, how did she come straight toward us?]
[Could it be that she planted a tracker on us?]
Earlier…
On the eve of the wedding, when Qin Yan was supposed to be doing her makeup, she found Xia Mingtang in a quiet corner and the first thing she did was put the birdcage necklace on her.
[Wear it well. Don’t lose it again.]
Everything had left traces.
“Hum”
Xia Mingtang, lost in memories, hadn’t noticed her wool sweater had been pushed up.
Qin Tian had teased her for a while, but her normally sensitive little wife seemed unresponsive.
Doubting her own skill, Qin Yan intensified her efforts…
Xia Mingtang was pinned to the sofa, the off-white wool sweater pushed high, not covering her modesty, but restraining her.
Qin Yan controlled her completely, biting down sharply on her soft, tender flesh.
“Ah!” Xia Mingtang cried in pain, struggling instinctively.
Qin Yan, however, was clever—she combined pain with pleasure, using her tongue to soothe the tender flesh she had bitten, weakening Xia Mingtang’s will.
After some time, Xia Mingtang lost her strength and could only emit helpless, melodic cries.
