- Chapter 56 - The House Is Too Crowded
Qin Yan carried Mimi back to the cat room again. This time, she carefully checked everything, welding the doors and windows shut to make sure not a single fly could get in or out.
When she returned to the master bedroom, Xia Mingtang had already changed back into her pajamas and was washing and hanging up her underwear.
Qin Yan squinted, walked over, and wrapped her arms around her petite wife’s waist, her movements decidedly naughty. “I’ve secured Mimi, I promise it won’t come over again this time.”
Xia Mingtang swatted the hand away from her body, looking displeased. “Forget it. I just changed my underwear. Don’t get it dirty again.”
Anyone would lose all desire if, in a moment of intimacy, they were suddenly pinned down with a furry little creature staring at their naked body.
Xia Mingtang wanted to sleep early tonight, but Qin Yan had other ideas.
Her jade-like fingers lifted the edge of the silk pajamas, easily controlling the full, firm curves beneath. Her voice was teasing. “It’s okay, I’ll wash it if it gets dirty.”
Xia Mingtang twisted her body twice, half resisting, half yielding, as Qin Yan pressed her down onto the bed. Her still-sensitive body quickly recalled its previous excitement.
She wrapped her hands around Qin Yan’s neck, her voice carrying a hint of coquettish threat. “No more dawdling!”
Qin Yan obediently complied, licking her round earlobes, one hand quickly sliding under the thin silk, pressing firmly but not overly so.
Xia Mingtang’s legs twitched, and she pulled the person on top closer with her arms.
The sensation through the fabric was unusual, but Qin Yan’s movements were precise and skillful, like a master drummer hitting every beat perfectly.
Xia Mingtang squinted, her face flushed, letting out fragmented moans from her beautiful, thin lips.
Feeling the temptation, Qin Yan caught the blush and kissed her fiercely.
Just as the intimacy peaked, a scratching sound came from the adjacent room.
At first, they didn’t pay much attention, but the noise grew louder, accompanied by varied “meow” sounds.
Though Mimi usually had a soft voice during the day, at night it was strong and clear. Even a simple “meow” came out in several tones, showing potential as a little musician.
The commotion was impossible to ignore.
Xia Mingtang grabbed Qin Yan’s persistently mischievous hand, rolled over, and the warmth beneath her quickly dissipated.
Her seductive eyes glistened with tears, her delicate face flushed. It was unclear whether she was embarrassed or annoyed.
“Stop it. Go check on Mimi,” she said.
Reluctantly, Qin Yan washed her hands and went next door to fetch the mischievous little creature, roughly turning it over and checking it thoroughly, making Mimi yowl.
“Judging by its reaction, it must be in heat,” Qin Yan remarked.
“Don’t handle it so roughly,” Xia Mingtang said, already dressed.
Mimi was pushing its head against Qin Yan’s hand with surprising force, its voice rougher than usual—exactly like a cat in heat.
How could such a small kitten go into heat so suddenly?
Xia Mingtang felt sorry for Mimi. “What do we do now? Should we find it a mate?”
“Mate? Spay it!” Qin Yan’s face was filled with indignation.
If Mimi were to mate and give birth to a litter, there was no telling how chaotic the household would become.
When Qin Yan said “spay,” Mimi seemed to understand, stopping its head-butting and curling up into a fluffy, helpless little ball.
Xia Mingtang hesitated. “Does spaying involve surgery? Will it hurt?”
“If we don’t spay it, giving birth could also require surgery, and not just once,” Qin Yan explained, tugging gently on Mimi’s ear to emphasize the point.
“Don’t scare it,” Xia Mingtang said, stroking Mimi’s head. After a moment’s thought, she decided, “Alright. We’ll take it to be spayed tomorrow.”
During its heat cycle, the cat couldn’t be left alone. Xia Mingtang bought some “calming powder” online, and after taking it, Mimi finally settled down, lying quietly in its bed by the foot of the bed.
Both had been exhausted from being interrupted by the cat late at night. The house finally quieted down.
Qin Yan wrapped her arms around Xia Mingtang’s smooth body, unwilling to let go.
Xia Mingtang wriggled free, rolling under the covers to put some distance between them.
She looked at those dimly glowing eyes in the night, scolding, “From today onward, you’re not allowed to touch me!”
Anyone who had been interrupted twice in one night would be wary.
Qin Yan stared at her without a word.
After spending some time together, Xia Mingtang could tell that Qin Yan was scheming silently.
So she warned seriously again, “Don’t provoke a cat in heat anymore. Anything else can wait until after the surgery.”
Qin Yan sighed helplessly at the little blue eyes at the foot of the bed.
If Mimi could ruin their night twice, it could certainly cause trouble a third, fourth, or fifth time. The problem had to be solved at its root.
But solving the problem at its root wasn’t as simple as imagined.
Cats in heat cannot be spayed; they must wait until the cycle ends.
During this period, Mimi, having eaten the calming powder, stayed quietly in its bed, content to be near its owner.
It was just hard on Qin Yan, who, after work, had to live like a monk in chastity.
Xia Mingtang, interrupted twice like this, was also frustrated, but she couldn’t blame such a cute kitten.
Thus, the blame fell on Qin Yan for leaving the window open and later provoking the cat.
Using the excuse of “don’t provoke a cat in heat,” Qin Yan’s affectionate gestures toward Xia Mingtang were minimal, even avoiding kisses.
Qin Yan counted the days until Mimi’s heat cycle ended and eagerly took it to the vet.
When Mimi was placed on the surgery table, its big blue eyes were full of innocence.
Xia Mingtang, having seen some advice online, performed an overly dramatic “farewell” in front of Mimi to ensure it wouldn’t hold a grudge after the spay.
Qin Yan, on the other hand, remained cold and professional with the vet, hoping Mimi would remember her sternness instead.
The surgery went smoothly, but Mimi still needed a recovery period.
Their daily routine shifted from “caring for a cat in heat” to “caring for a spayed cat.”
The villa’s chef prepared Mimi’s recovery meals, but during this time, the little kitten was emotionally fragile and needed its owners’ companionship.
Xia Mingtang had never taken care of anyone before, but she instinctively handled the care of Mimi well.
Thanks to her pre-surgery performance, Mimi now trusted and relied on her, following her everywhere.
During this period, Xia Mingtang’s dislocated arm healed fully, and she even bought dumbbells to exercise her strength.
Qin Yan tried to persuade her to also work on her waist strength, but Xia Mingtang dismissed the suggestion.
This rather unremarkable married life continued for about half a month. As Mimi’s health improved, Qin Yan started planning some personal fun.
One day, Xia Mingtang came home from work to find a pile of cardboard boxes, Qin Yan busily opening them alone without asking for help.
“Wow, why did you buy so many things? What are they for?” Xia Mingtang stepped around the boxes to find a spot to stand.
“For camping,” Qin Yan said, unpacking the largest box to reveal a foldable tent.
“Camping? Why the sudden idea?” Xia Mingtang squatted beside the boxes, curious.
“The house feels too crowded; I want some fresh air outside.” Qin Yan opened another box to take out a small camping lamp.
“Crowded?” Xia Mingtang looked around the villa of over a thousand square meters and wondered just how much space Qin Yan wanted.
However, she was happy Qin Yan wanted to go out. “Then go ahead. Mimi and I will watch the house for you.”
Qin Yan glanced at her. “You’re coming with me.”
Xia Mingtang tilted her head. “When did I agree to go camping with you?”
“Now.” Qin Yan stacked some empty boxes together. “These are for Mimi to play with.”
Though Mimi had plenty of cat furniture, all cats naturally loved playing with boxes.
In the past, Xia Mingtang might have rebelled at Qin Yan’s unilateral decisions, but after some time together, she realized Qin Yan was cold in appearance but warm at heart.
She paid attention to all the details Xia Mingtang often overlooked—from hygiene to nutrition—making her an excellent partner in raising a cat.
Camping didn’t seem like a big deal, and Xia Mingtang’s workload at the company wasn’t too heavy lately.
“Alright, when do we leave? Where to? What should I bring?” Xia Mingtang began helping unpack the boxes.
“The day after tomorrow, to Cangcui Mountain in the north of the city. You don’t need to worry about anything else; just bring yourself.”
“Perfect. I love trips where I just need to show up.”
She held one box, its label and seal so secure she couldn’t open it despite much effort.
Qin Yan looked at her and took the box back. “Not yet. Leave it closed for now.”
