- Chapter 21 - Kissing Someone Without Permission Will Cost Interest
“I really… was captivated by your charm.”
If Xia Mingtang wasn’t hearing things, Qin Yan had indeed said that last line, right?
At that moment, Qin Yan had been standing so close, her aura faint yet intoxicating, almost like a subtle spell.
Xia Mingtang had lost her mind for a second and turned to flee like a startled rabbit.
Thinking back now, she was full of regret—immense regret.
What a rare highlight in her life! She had received high praise from Boss Qin herself.
So why had she run away? She should have lifted her head, full of confidence, and answered proudly, “I know I’m charming. I am the queen, shining with confidence!”
“Ugh~” She was too immersed in the thought and rubbed her forehead a little too hard—enough to make tears well up in her eyes.
Her phone suddenly rang. Seeing the caller ID showed “Shi Shi,” Xia Mingtang reluctantly answered.
“Miss Shi, you finally remembered your poor, exiled, lonely childhood friend! Do you know I almost got kidnapped?!”
“Ah?” Shi Shi saw several missed calls on her phone and guessed Xia Mingtang must be busy, but could it really be this serious?
She worried, “Did you escape? Are you safe? Send me your location—I’ll come rescue you immediately!”
Xia Mingtang: …
Almost—don’t you even understand what “almost” means?!
On the other end, Xia Mingtang started venting a rapid-fire string of complaints. From her energetic tone, it was clear she was fine.
Shi Shi patiently let her rant for three minutes before getting a chance to explain.
“It’s not like I purposely didn’t answer your calls. It’s just… my goddess just came back to the country. I had to entertain her. I scheduled all other work for next week and, since nothing important is happening recently, I just put my phone on airplane mode.”
If she hadn’t explained, it would have been fine—but this explanation essentially said, “My goddess is the most important; nothing else matters.”
Xia Mingtang nearly gagged at the thought, but considering that her childhood friend had adored her goddess for over ten years, compared to that, she herself really didn’t seem that important.
“You have no sense of humanity,” Xia Mingtang scolded angrily.
Shi Shi didn’t feel ashamed. She replied matter-of-factly, “I’m a lesbian; admiring someone of the same sex is normal, right? Oh, of course, you don’t count.”
Xia Mingtang bristled. “What do you mean, ‘I don’t count’?”
Shi Shi paused for two seconds. “If I tell you… will you be mad?”
Xia Mingtang was already angry, but she spoke magnanimously, “Go ahead and speak freely. I have a very good temper.”
Finally given the chance to speak openly, Shi Shi wasn’t about to miss it.
“You… you just have the outward appearance of a beautiful woman. Your temperament and feminine charm aren’t the same at all—they’re completely unrelated.
“You’re hot-tempered, ready to throw a punch at the slightest disagreement, yet in reality, you can’t actually beat anyone.
“When nothing’s happening, you’re suspicious; when trouble comes, you get deceived every time.
“You never let things go normally, but when setbacks hit, you howl louder than anyone.
“You’re nothing like my goddess: intelligent, elegant, gentle, earned a PhD at a young age, and handles any difficulty with ease…”
“Enough!” Xia Mingtang angrily cut her off. She realized this person was simply trying to praise her goddess.
“Who says I don’t have feminine charm? Not long ago, someone even said they were captivated by my charm!” Xia Mingtang proudly declared this fact, feeling a sudden sense of triumph.
“Really? Who?” Shi Shi sounded skeptical.
Daring to speak so bluntly in front of Xia Mingtang… was she suicidal?
“Boss Qin.” Xia Mingtang had intended to keep this as a little secret, but given the current situation, she couldn’t stay low-key.
“Boss Qin, the one at the inn?” Shi Shi recalled Qin Yan’s first appearance: a qipao-clad figure, gentle features, graceful like someone from ancient times.
She frowned. “But… Boss Qin doesn’t seem like someone with unusual taste in eyes.”
Xia Mingtang: !
“Her eyesight is fine! She saw my charm—that means her eyesight is excellent! I just love people with good eyes!”
Xia Mingtang picked up a garbage bag, heading to take out the trash.
Just as she opened the door, she was met with that familiar, gentle face.
“Never mind.” She quickly hung up the phone and stared at the person before her. “How come you’re here? How long have you been here?”
Qin Yan naturally took the trash bag from her hands and walked to the hallway bin.
“You asked two questions at once. I’ll answer the second one first. I just got here and happened to hear you say, ‘Boss Qin has great eyesight, I like people with good eyesight.’”
Xia Mingtang, after her previous bravado, thought: Oh no, what is up with the soundproofing of this guest room!
She avoided eye contact and changed the subject. “Got it. Now answer the first one.”
Qin Yan tossed the trash bag and turned back with a slightly indulgent smile. “Aren’t you going to take your suitcase?”
After running away that night, Xia Mingtang had returned to a newly booked inn via phone navigation and had left her suitcase behind.
She realized belatedly, “Oh, right… where’s my suitcase?”
“I brought it back to an inn.”
“Oh… okay… what?” Xia Mingtang nodded out of habit, but halfway through, she realized something was off.
That was her suitcase! How could this person be so self-assured?
Seeing Xia Mingtang fume, Qin Yan held her hand before she could speak in a tsundere manner and led her back to the room. “Your forehead bump—why is it more swollen?”
Mentioning it made Xia Mingtang’s head hurt again.
How could one person have so much bad luck in one day?
“Sit down.” Qin Yan gently pushed Xia Mingtang onto the sofa. Only then did Xia Mingtang notice a medical kit in Qin Yan’s other hand.
Qin Yan placed the kit on the coffee table and went to wash her hands in the bathroom.
The frosted bathroom door wasn’t closed; from Xia Mingtang’s angle, she could see Qin Yan’s graceful silhouette.
She was wearing a moon-white qipao. Boss Qin really loved qipaos, always high-collared, buttoned to the top—restrained yet vintage.
Even in a modern setting, she exuded a strange harmony.
How could a person like this exist?
Before Xia Mingtang could dwell further, Qin Yan had finished washing her hands and returned.
Xia Mingtang quickly turned her face, pretending she hadn’t been looking.
Qin Yan’s gaze lingered on her face for half a second, then she used a tissue to dry her hands and opened the medical kit.
“Turn around a bit.” Sitting beside Xia Mingtang, she could only see the back of her head.
“I wasn’t looking at you!” To prove her honesty, Xia Mingtang turned her head even further away.
Qin Yan’s lips curved slightly, a faint smile. “You didn’t say you were looking at me, but if you don’t turn around, I won’t treat the bump on your forehead.”
Ah, that made sense.
Xia Mingtang supported herself on the sofa and turned to face Qin Yan. “Then do it.”
She tilted her face up, eyes slightly squinting, looking like she was facing death with courage.
Hehe.
Qin Yan squeezed some ointment onto her hand and gently dabbed the slightly reddish-white bump.
“I’m just applying ointment, not giving an injection.”
Xia Mingtang felt a cool sensation the moment the ointment touched her forehead—the swelling and pain diminished significantly.
Qin Yan’s fingers circled the bump with steady, even pressure.
Her fingers weren’t soft, but they carried a comforting strength.
Xia Mingtang almost let out a soft sigh of pleasure.
She secretly opened her eyes a slit and noticed Qin Yan was fully focused on her forehead, unaware of her small peek.
So she peeked even more shamelessly.
Boss Qin’s face was so beautiful—eyebrows like distant mountains, eyes like shining stars, skin translucent white. At first, she seemed distant, but now she gave off warmth.
Seeing such a close, beautiful face, Xia Mingtang couldn’t resist. She leaned in and pecked the gorgeous features.
It happened in an instant—less than 0.1 seconds—and then she sat back up, pretending nothing happened.
Qin Yan paused mid-motion, glancing at the person still squinting and pretending to ignore her.
“Kissing someone without permission will cost interest, you know.”
