- Chapter 103 - Tang Tang, Don’t Leave Me
After expressing her rebellious and domineering words, Qin Yan didn’t feel there was anything inappropriate at all.
She looked up and saw her wife staring at her with wide eyes, finding her extremely cute. Leaning in, she kissed her cheek.
Before her wife could react, Qin Yan quickly pulled back and changed the topic.
“Wife, since we don’t have to work today, why don’t we go out to eat? Let’s go to that restaurant I sent you last time. I’ll check our chat history.”
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone and opened their WeChat conversation to look for the restaurant information.
Summer Mingtang didn’t really care about what to eat. She sat on the sofa, watching Qin Yan focus seriously on her search.
At first, Qin Yan was all smiles, excited and cheerful. But within seconds, her expression drooped, nearly breaking into tears.
“What’s wrong?” Summer Mingtang leaned over.
“That guy… deleted all the chat messages I sent you!” Qin Yan turned her phone to show Summer Mingtang, pouting as she complained.
Summer Mingtang looked and saw that in their WeChat conversation, only her messages remained on the left side. The right side, where Qin Yan’s messages used to be, was completely empty.
“….”
Given how the 31-year-old Qin Yan treated the younger version of herself, this wasn’t too surprising.
“Too unfair! Those were memories of my wife and me! How could they do this!” Qin Yan continued whining, growing more upset.
Summer Mingtang recalled all the messages that the young Qin Yan had sent daily—full of energy and care, sharing daily life, collecting recommendations for food and fun, and putting in a lot of thought.
Seeing her so sad, Summer Mingtang couldn’t help but offer comfort.
“It’s fine. I still have the chat history here. You can forward it to your phone.”
Qin Yan’s eyes lit up. She quickly followed the suggestion.
Of course, she had thought of this simple solution herself. She just wanted to complain so that her wife would fuss over her a little!
She quickly selected the messages from Summer Mingtang’s phone and forwarded them to herself. At the end, she even acted cute in front of her wife.
“You’re still the best, wife. If that other person ever comes back suddenly, you have to keep an eye on her. Don’t let her touch my stuff.”
Summer Mingtang blinked at Qin Yan’s pleading gaze. Another version of Qin Yan—when would she appear again?
Seeing Summer Mingtang remain silent, Qin Yan gently shook her arm.
“Okay, okay, I promise.”
The older Miss Xia was soft on the younger Qin Yan and unusually tolerant.
The two of them went to the restaurant Qin Yan had chosen.
It was a newly opened popular restaurant. Previously, it had always been crowded and didn’t allow reservations, so they kept postponing their visit.
If it were the older Qin Yan, she wouldn’t waste a word—she would have reserved the entire restaurant.
But the recently adult nineteen-year-old Qin Yan hadn’t developed such extravagant habits.
Luckily, it was a weekday. When they arrived, it wasn’t peak time, and they snagged the last available table. Qin Yan was extremely happy.
“Today is lucky. I thought we’d have to wait. Wife, try this lemon tea; online reviews say it’s good.”
Under the sunlight, Qin Yan’s smile curved her eyes into crescents as she enthusiastically took over the waiter’s tasks.
Summer Mingtang, affected by her joy, felt a little more energetic despite her discomfort from her period.
She sipped the tea. It wasn’t extraordinary, but looking around, all the diners seemed happy. Securing a table in such a busy restaurant felt like a small victory. The marketing worked.
Unlike the 31-year-old Qin Yan who preferred quiet, the nineteen-year-old Qin Yan loved lively places.
Summer Mingtang sometimes wondered what had happened in the past twelve years to change a person’s temperament so drastically.
What she didn’t realize was that twelve years ago, Qin Yan hadn’t been like the woman she saw now either. Sometimes, a slight flutter of the butterfly of fate could create massive changes.
The nineteen-year-old Qin Yan, arriving in the present moment, became a unique version of herself, different from both her past and present.
The restaurant served quickly: rainbow salads, seafood towers—its specialties. Qin Yan also ordered plenty of visually appealing handmade snacks.
She peeled a small lobster from the seafood tower in one fluid motion and fed it to Summer Mingtang.
“Wife, whichever one you like, I’ll peel it for you.”
No matter the age, Qin Yan shared a common love for taking care of her wife.
Initially, Summer Mingtang felt awkward showing affection publicly, but she gradually got used to it.
She opened her mouth, accepted the shrimp, and nodded while chewing.
Suddenly, she felt a gaze on her back, like a shadow following.
Curious, she turned around, but only saw other diners minding their own business.
Just as she was about to turn back, she noticed a sharp-looking woman glance at them before resuming eating her pizza casually.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Yan, peeling a crab leg, noticed Summer Mingtang’s distraction and asked.
“Nothing.”
Thinking she was just being sensitive, Summer Mingtang continued eating, but the gaze felt unnervingly persistent.
Now Qin Yan noticed it too. She wiped her hands and leaned in, whispering, “Wife, I think someone is staring at us.”
“Maybe they just think we look good,” Summer Mingtang joked weakly, knowing it wasn’t convincing. She quickly added, “Let’s just pack our food and eat at home.”
The restaurant had no private rooms, designed to be lively. Qin Yan wasn’t happy—she had finally gotten the table. Why should they leave for a stranger?
As she stood to protest, the sharp woman approached their table. She smiled politely but her face couldn’t hide a fierce edge.
“Sorry, I couldn’t help but watch you two being so affectionate, and I had a question I wanted to ask.”
Qin Yan instinctively felt annoyed, about to shoo her away, but Summer Mingtang’s hand held hers.
The woman scanned their faces directly.
“Setting aside reality, can happiness that exists in illusion last?”
Her words left both of them stunned.
She seemed satisfied with their reaction. Not needing an answer, she nodded politely and walked away.
“….”
“….”
Summer Mingtang was the first to react. She patted Qin Yan on the shoulder. “What did she mean just now? Do you know her?”
“No, don’t you know her?” Qin Yan thought back through her phone, finding no trace of the woman.
“I don’t know her either,” Summer Mingtang shrugged.
After this small incident, they continued their meal, though both felt a trace of unease.
That night, the two went to bed early.
Summer Mingtang curled into Qin Yan’s arms, breathing in the familiar scent, her groggy mind haunted by a voice:
“Tang Tang…”
“Tang Tang…”
“Tang Tang…”
In the darkness, a long-haired woman in a qipao stood at a distance, seemingly bound, calling out repeatedly. The voice was both comforting and dangerous.
Summer Mingtang instinctively stepped back, but the oppressive feeling seemed to press on her from all sides.
She stepped forward; the pressure eased as she approached the woman.
Up close, she could see the woman’s normally gentle face now filled with deep resentment. The woman restrained her, voice surging once more:
“Tang Tang, don’t leave me.”
…
“Ah!”
Summer Mingtang woke with a start in Qin Yan’s arms, drenched in cold sweat.
“Wife, what’s wrong?” Qin Yan turned on the bedside lamp and gently touched her forehead.
Summer Mingtang opened her eyes, seeing the same familiar features as in her dream, feeling complex emotions.
“Did you have a nightmare? Drink some water first.” Qin Yan handed her water from the thermos and comforted her in his arms.
“What did you dream about? Don’t worry, dreams are often the opposite.”
Dreams are the opposite?
Summer Mingtang pursed her lips. “But in the dream, that Qin Yan felt so real.”
Seeing her troubled expression, the nineteen-year-old Qin Yan understood.
“You… dreamed of her?”
Summer Mingtang didn’t hide it. She looked up at Qin Yan. “I did. Will you be upset?”
“Yes!” Qin Yan didn’t hesitate.
“Then you have to comfort me and come with me to the hot spring resort next week.”
