The World-Destroying Goddess Brings the Child to My Door and Demands Responsibility - Chapter 8
Am I really that important to you? Lu Fengmian still couldn’t quite understand.
Very important. Qing Shi said with absolute firmness, without the slightest hesitation.
In fact, the moment she finished speaking, she emerged directly from Lu Fengmian’s soul sea, materializing right before her eyes.
Her exquisite face appeared right in front of Lu Fengmian, and her gaze toward Lu Fengmian was as tender and focused as ever.
Qing Shi reached out to hook Lu Fengmian’s chin, pulling her hand away before speaking with a light chuckle: “Mianmian hasn’t come to see me for several days.”
Lu Fengmian reached out to grasp her wrist, moving her hand aside, and gave a light cough as she said: “How could it be several days? Hasn’t my time remained paused right here?”
“Mianmian, in any real world, time very rarely stands still unless the world falls into a slumber, causing time to stop. But right now, it is only the time within your game world that is stagnant, not time in my world.” Qing Shi explained to her with a soft smile.
Lu Fengmian seemed to understand something: “A part of this place has already become real?”
Qing Shi reached out to poke her cheek, a smile gracing the corners of her lips: “Not quite right. Well, doesn’t Mianmian love exploring? Then how about letting Mianmian explore properly on her own?”
Lu Fengmian genuinely wanted to say that she didn’t need to, as she had no desire to explore everything by herself if she could just accept things directly, why not?
Yet Qing Shi pinched her little cheek again, saying with a hint of dissatisfaction: “Your body is so poor.”
Lu Fengmian felt a bit embarrassed facing one intimate gesture after another from her: “Alright, alright, stop messing around. I’m still live-streaming; it wouldn’t look too good if others saw us.”
“They won’t let them know. This is a private matter between Mianmian and me; what qualifications do they have to know?” Qing Shi replied as though it were only natural.
Recalling the comments left by the viewers in her live stream room, Lu Fengmian couldn’t help laughing or crying it was indeed true that absolutely no one knew about these affairs.
“In that case, let’s have a proper chat first then. I really don’t like exploring things on my own.”
“You can’t shirk responsibility.” Qing Shi sat down beside her, speaking with utmost solemnity.
Watching her earnest expression of taking responsibility, Lu Fengmian found herself caught between laughter and tears.
Yet looking at those facial features she had carved out piece by piece, they truly were exquisite and gorgeous!
What could possibly match one’s preferences better than a face crafted entirely by oneself, transcending mere words in a novel?
Every single detail of Qing Shi’s face had been personally sculpted by her own hands; how could she possibly not love it?
Thus, looking at her earnest and aggrieved expression, Lu Fengmian genuinely softened a bit, nearly agreeing to her on the spot.
“However, Ah Shi, we truly aren’t from the same world, and I have no way to accompany you for the long term. Do you understand?” Lu Fengmian attempted to continue communicating with her.
Qing Shi shook her head: “I don’t understand, and I don’t want to understand. If we aren’t from the same world, can’t Mianmian just stay behind?”
For a moment, Lu Fengmian didn’t even know whether she should praise her—she actually had a rather valid point.
“If you say any more, Mianmian, I won’t let you go out.” Qing Shi stated unreasonably.
Lu Fengmian couldn’t help laughing or crying.
Yet she also believed that given Qing Shi’s temperament, there was a high probability she would genuinely find a way to make her stay. Since the system could be blocked inside the game, Qing Shi might really possess the means to make her remain.
“Alright, alright, let’s not discuss this for now, let’s talk about something else.” Lu Fengmian had no choice but to drop the discussion with Qing Shi on this matter.
“Mianmian, speak.” She sat up straight, adopting an obedient posture as she listened to Lu Fengmian.
“Since you and a portion of the NPCs have already developed your own consciousness, if I let players enter again, will it interfere with you?” Lu Fengmian was deeply concerned about this, and also worried that she might put the players in danger.
“It won’t. We need your arrival, and besides, I have already given orders: no one else is permitted to harm the players, and the world’s rules will absolutely protect them.” Qing Shi answered Lu Fengmian honestly.
Hearing this, Lu Fengmian furrowed her brows slightly: “Why do I feel like you guys have been waiting for me all along?”
Qing Shi shook her head in bewilderment: “That’s not it. I truly did wait for Mianmian for a very, very long time; I anticipated being able to converse with Mianmian, and I wanted to go to Mianmian’s side. But the others didn’t they genuinely only awakened the moment the game world opened.”
“Are there many awakened entities?” Lu Fengmian asked, as she currently harbored far too many doubts.
“They aren’t quite the same as me…” Qing Shi pondered for a moment before answering Lu Fengmian.
“They aren’t purely awakened entities; at least a portion of them do not belong to the game world’s system, and this portion was not created by Mianmian. As for the other portion, I’m not certain whether they should be called awakened entities either.” After speaking, Qing Shi cast a somewhat dazed look toward Lu Fengmian.
Meeting her innocent and bewildered gaze, Lu Fengmian couldn’t help but instantly choose to believe her words.
Pondering to herself for a moment, she formed a hypothesis: she guessed that the game world where Qing Shi had previously resided had “come alive,” but as for what that other portion—belonging outside the game world’s system—actually was, she truly couldn’t fathom it.
Lu Fengmian shared her hypothesis with Qing Shi.
Upon hearing Lu Fengmian’s hypothesis, Qing Shi looked at her with an expression of pure adoration: “Mianmian is so brilliant, you figured it out just like that.”
Lu Fengmian felt that her praise was completely devoid of sincerity, uttered merely out of reflex to shower her with casual compliments.
In fact, Lu Fengmian suspected that even if she were to ask why the moon was so scorching, Qing Shi would probably chime in and agree.
Yet shortly afterward, Qing Shi spoke up again: “Still, that’s not entirely correct. The game world Mianmian is currently creating is still a virtual world, whereas the world where I reside is the real one.”
Lu Fengmian thought about it seriously: “So, the game world exists in between two real worlds, is that it?”
“Yes, Mianmian is amazing, you guessed it right again.” Qing Shi specialized in a gameplay where whatever Lu Fengmian said was correct.
Lu Fengmian was simply caught between laughter and tears: “Stop messing around, be serious.”
“Alright then.” Qing Shi obediently quieted down, refraining from speaking nonsense.
“To put it simply: the world I used to create where you resided developed a world consciousness because of your awakening. Then, a portion of NPCs developed self-awareness just like you, and as time passed, many new living beings were born.”
“Then, the other group of people I mentioned who do not belong to this system are outsiders criminals exiled to the Exile Lands by the deities of the upper realm. Later on, due to some reason, the Exile Lands and this world suddenly merged, fusing the two into one.”
As for why the game world and the Exile Lands had fused, Qing Shi couldn’t remember either. In fact, it wasn’t even necessarily that she couldn’t remember it was highly probable that she genuinely didn’t know.
After all, the universe undergoes countless transformations, and she was merely a so-called goddess within a minor world that hadn’t even fully formed; it was entirely normal that she didn’t know everything.
Yet Qing Shi felt that she must have truly slumbered for an extremely long time, until the exact moment Lu Fengmian recreated her game character, at which point Qing Shi suddenly sensed Lu Fengmian’s soul signature and snapped awake.
Her awakening brought the slumbering world back to life as well, though it seemed none of the other living beings realized they had ever slumbered their time had simply been paused.
After the world awakened, everyone resumed living their lives as usual, completely oblivious to any abnormalities, and their memories remained entirely seamless. It appeared as though Qing Shi was the sole person who had endured that endless darkness.
Additionally, regarding why she had suddenly sensed Lu Fengmian’s soul signature, and why the game was able to bridge two real worlds, Qing Shi genuinely had no idea.
Qing Shi honestly told Lu Fengmian everything she knew.
Even including her identity as a warden over criminals—with the sole exception of the fact that she herself was also a criminal.
She didn’t dare tell Lu Fengmian, on one hand because she was afraid of frightening her, and on the other hand because she didn’t want her to worry too much about her.
Lu Fengmian had never expected Qing Shi to be this transparent and honest in telling her everything.
Looking at Qing Shi, an indescribable sour aching sensation welled up within her heart.
Qing Shi assumed she felt this way because she suspected she was still hiding something.
“It’s really gone, I’ve told you everything I know,” Qing Shi explained with a grievance-filled tone.
Yet Lu Fengmian unexpectedly let out a soft laugh: “I know.”
What had happened to that aloof and cold demeanor of hers?
