The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 83
As she left, Qin Huai turned her head to look back at the old man’s position.
The green plants were luxuriant and dense, looking like a green sea from a distance, displaying their strong vitality. The elderly man, whose hair and even beard were white with age, sat amidst the large patch of greenery. Following the frequency of the rocking chair’s swing, he slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep. The large patch of green plants on the balcony created the scene: the old man’s feet rested on the wooden base of the rocking chair, and he closed his eyes again.
Qin Huai’s heart felt as if a piece had been hollowed out, and her emotions instantly plummeted to rock bottom. It wasn’t until the alpha in front of her reached out and grasped her hand, the scorching heat searing her, that she snapped back to attention.
“Let’s go,” Shen Zhi lowered her head slightly, her eyes no longer showing the usual casualness but becoming serious.
Qin Huai nodded and hummed in acknowledgment. After exiting the door, she bowed to the young girl standing at the entrance, “Thank you.”
Not to mention the unfamiliar young girl, even Shen Zhi rarely saw Qin Huai act like this. Although she was surprised, it didn’t stop her from playing along. Shen Zhi also bent down to express her gratitude to the young girl.
“It’s nothing,” the young girl had never seen such a grand gesture. She pulled Shen Zhi’s arm with one hand and Qin Huai’s wrist with the other, “It’s all something I should do.”
“There’s no such thing as ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’,” Qin Huai straightened up and said, “Whether intentional or not, you helped me. By any standard, I should do this. Consider it a favor I owe you. If you ever need anything in the future, just come to me, and I’ll do my best to help you.”
Qin Huai looked intently at the young girl as she spoke, her gaze serious and firm. It was the young girl who first couldn’t maintain her composure and chuckled, then waved her hand, saying, “No need for the future, you can help me now.”
Qin Huai: “?”
The young girl: “Lend me your alpha for a moment.”
When they reached the entrance of the residential complex, Qin Huai noticed the emptiness beside her. Subconsciously, she turned to call out, only to suddenly realize that Shen Zhi hadn’t come down yet. She could only walk forward by herself.
However, her steps were much slower this time.
Whether she was willing to admit it or not, she was stalling for time, engaging in self-deception.
The sunlight became increasingly fierce, and the dryness of the air had the peculiar ability to instantly dry up water sprinkled on the ground. Countless tiny dust particles danced lightly in the air.
Qin Huai stopped under the parasol tree at the complex’s entrance, quietly waiting for Shen Zhi to come down.
Her mind was a mess. One moment she was thinking about Gu Qing’s death, the next about Qin Zhijing’s cruelty, and the next she was trying to guess what Shen Zhi was talking about upstairs.
Fear spread like a flood. The more she tried not to think, the more she dwelled on those tiny, hidden details.
She wondered if the young girl had something left unsaid, and if she had asked to speak with Shen Zhi alone to tell her how dangerous Qin Huai was, and that getting close to her meant constant risk to life.
This thought flashed through her mind, and she immediately dismissed it. But just a few seconds later, she helplessly recalled it again.
She even started to dislike this fearful, cowardly self.
Yet, the thought of Shen Zhi leaving her made her nervously look towards the building, even tempted to step inside directly.
Pheromones are the ultimate test for an alpha. Some alphas use the rutting period as a natural excuse for crime, luring an omega into heat, while others can control their primal instincts.
Qin Zhijing was the former, and Shen Zhi was the latter.
Qin Huai knew Shen Zhi well. The alpha, younger than herself, liked to cause a fuss, liked to tease, and especially liked to play little games of vulnerability. But in reality, her possessiveness was stronger than anyone’s, yet she was also a person more steadfast and pure than anyone else.
During her rut, Shen Zhi would lock her in the room, preferring to hold the old clothes she had changed out of, which were still stained with pheromones, rather than force her. Shen Zhi would take herself, who was in heat, to a hotel or home, but was unwilling to mark her.
Shen Zhi was not Qin Zhijing, and she was not Gu Qing.
She would use all her power to hold on to the person who was good to her.
Once an idea took hold, she acted on it. Shen Zhi shoved her hands into her pockets. Although her walking posture was casual, her steps were long.
The ten-minute walk she had taken earlier was now compressed to five minutes.
She stopped at the foot of the unit building, and after counting down five numbers and still not seeing Shen Zhi’s silhouette in the stairwell, she simply started walking up. She didn’t want to think about what would happen later, or what their life would be like after they were together.
Since Shen Zhi liked her and was attached to her, she needed to make her preparations even if imperfect.
As she thought this, Qin Huai was already on the first step of the staircase, and just as she was about to step onto the second, a familiar sound of footsteps came from the stairwell.
The alpha’s long hair was casually loose. When she saw Qin Huai, she was first surprised, then quickly walked down the stairs, stopping two steps away from Qin Huai. Her eyes slightly narrowed, “Why did you come back up?”
No matter how bold she felt inside, seeing the person made it another matter whether she could speak it out loud. Qin Huai averted her gaze and pointed outside at the weather, saying, “It’s hot.”
Shen Zhi obediently looked in the direction she was pointing.
The weather was indeed very hot. The simple words “Summer Solstice” on the calendar finally had a tangible feeling.
Shen Zhi nodded, “It’s really hot. Shall we find a bubble tea shop to escape the heat first?”
This complex was in a remote location, far from the city center. On the way here, the bubble tea shops they passed had long put up “Temporarily Closed” signs. At times like this, Qin Huai especially wanted to go home or to the laboratory, but with Shen Zhi in front of her, it didn’t seem appropriate.
“How about we go see a movie?” Qin Huai remembered Shen Zhi had been running around with her lately and tentatively offered her suggestion.
Shen Zhi, of course, had no objection and very sensibly started searching for recently released movies on her phone, “What kind do you want to see?”
“You decide.” Qin Huai rarely watched movies and didn’t know much about genres, but she subconsciously felt Shen Zhi looked like someone who was knowledgeable about these things.
In fact, Shen Zhi didn’t know much. She just had a face that looked like she enjoyed having fun, but she had completely stopped these activities after deciding to focus on her studies in high school. However, since Qin Huai had asked her and given her the power to decide, she certainly couldn’t slack off.
While in the car, Shen Zhi had already flipped through all the movies recently released in theaters. Most were thrillers or boring romantic movies, the kind that would make Qin Huai frown and leave.
Shen Zhi exited the ticket-buying app and opened a social media app, which was mostly used for sharing daily life and asking questions. She quickly scrolled through it, didn’t find any suitable questions, and clicked on the search bar.
[First time taking my girlfriend to the movies, any good film recommendations?]
After posting the question, Shen Zhi held her phone and waited, naturally neglecting the omega beside her.
Usually, it was Qin Huai who would sit silently and look out the window in the car, but today it was the opposite. Qin Huai glanced at the alpha beside her for the nth time. The other person would occasionally frown with a worried look or relax with an easy expression, which was very strange overall.
Considering Shen Zhi had just finished talking with that young girl, Qin Huai couldn’t help but think of other possibilities. She nudged the alpha’s forearm with her elbow until the other person looked over, and then she asked, “What are you looking at?”
“Nothing.” There was already a suitable comment under the question she had just posted. Shen Zhi planned to take Qin Huai there and confidently stated, “You will definitely like the movie we are going to watch this time.”
Not getting a specific answer, a hint of disappointment flashed in Qin Huai’s heart. But she turned her head sideways and uttered a light, unemotional “Oh,” making it impossible for anyone to guess her feelings.
About twenty minutes later, the driver stopped at the location Shen Zhi had mentioned, and Qin Huai followed her out of the car.
It was close to the city center, but the location was in a residential complex near the subway exit. Shen Zhi followed the location sent by the owner, going around the first floor like a game of hide-and-seek before finding it. Finally, she led Shen Zhi into the elevator.
The elevator stopped on the twentieth floor. Qin Huai followed Shen Zhi, while also paying attention to the surrounding environment.
Unlike the layouts of other residential buildings, this place had a dormitory style feel. A long corridor had five or six doors, each with a house number, but no one in charge was visible.
Even though Qin Huai had never been to a place like this, she had heard others talk about it. She didn’t understand why Shen Zhi had brought her here, so she tugged at Shen Zhi’s collar, forcing her to stop and ask, “Where are we going?”
“To see a movie, of course.”
Qin Huai: “What kind of movie do you watch in a place like this? One for the bed?”
Hearing Qin Huai’s misunderstanding, Shen Zhi immediately explained, “Not that kind of movie. I couldn’t find a suitable film online, so I posted a question, and people recommended this place.”
Qin Huai finally relaxed a little and asked, “Why did they recommend this place?”
“Freedom to choose films, clean environment,” Shen Zhi said as she walked forward, stopping at the innermost door. She then squatted down and pulled back the rug at the door, taking out a key under Qin Huai’s astonished gaze.
The door was opened, and Shen Zhi went in first and turned on the light. “I know you don’t like those kinds of movies, so I specially looked for a documentary about human reproduction. It has a high rating online.”
Qin Huai nodded, hummed, and walked in.
The room was indeed as clean as Shen Zhi had described. The sofa was a good length and width, enough for two people, and a simple arrangement of fruit snacks and a piece of paper were on the coffee table. The movie screen was right opposite.
It was indeed quite nice, but it felt a little strange.
Qin Huai sat down next to the sofa. Shen Zhi was still standing at the door, fiddling with the light, muttering, “Why is this light this color? It’s so weird.”
Qin Huai turned to look at the ceiling. The lights were aesthetically pleasing wall lamps, without any elaborate decorations, but the light they emitted was dim yellow.
This wouldn’t affect anything, as the lights would have to be turned off for the movie anyway. Qin Huai picked up the paper from the coffee table, thinking it might be a description of some mechanism in the room. She said to the person at the door, “Forget it, let’s watch”
Halfway through her sentence, Qin Huai finally saw clearly what she was holding.
The composure that usually characterized her face finally cracked. Her wrist went limp, and the item in her hand floated down.
The item was not an instruction for some device, but instructions for the use of this room. The title read: Welcome! While watching the documentary, remember to practice.
And below it, it listed the location of various small toys.
