The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 81
Originally, Qin Huai expected the Omega to show displeasure upon seeing her, and she was prepared to be ignored or even driven away. To her surprise, after the young girl’s eyes lingered on Shen Zhi’s face for a few seconds, they turned to her, filled with teasing and a hint of mischief.
“Not letting us in?” Shen Zhi asked.
“How could I? My grandpa has been waiting for you for a long time,” the young girl said, stepping aside to make room for them to pass through the doorway. “Welcome.”
Qin Huai was left flustered by the final, earnest word of welcome. Subconsciously, she felt she was asking for a favor, and moreover, the person she was asking for help was possibly Shen Zhi’s former ambiguous interest. She had prepared for the possibility of being deliberately difficult or excluded, but the person was so open and honest that it made her feel petty.
The Alpha beside her had already moved, her right foot stepping over the threshold. She half-turned and reached out a hand to Qin Huai, saying, “I’ll explain later when we get back.”
Now was not the best time to clarify things. Besides, given Shen Zhi’s character, she wouldn’t deliberately create such an awkward encounter between herself and a former ambiguous interest. Qin Huai opened her mouth, her lips moving, but before she could speak, she saw the girl looking at her with a meaningful gaze.
Qin Huai did not take the Alpha’s hand but waved it off, saying, “No need.”
Shen Zhi’s hand met empty air, and she felt a slight disappointment, but seeing Qin Huai’s discomfort, she could only give up and led the way into the house.
“My grandpa is waiting for you on the balcony,” the young girl pointed towards the balcony next to the living room. “I’ll go pour you some water.”
“No need,” Shen Zhi refused.
The young girl ignored her and turned to the kitchen, leaving Shen Zhi and Qin Huai standing alone.
Unlike the dilapidated exterior of the complex, the house, though old fashioned in its decor, had every piece of furniture spotlessly clean. A traditional Chinese ink painting hung on the wall behind the sofa. Looking across to the balcony, one could clearly see a gently swaying reclining chair and a large area of flourishing green plants.
Qin Huai stood far off in the living room, her legs feeling as if they were filled with lead, too heavy to lift.
The events of a dozen years ago were now like a mountain veiled in heavy fog only the sharp peak was visible, the difficulty within remaining unknown. How Qin Zhijing began to research inhibitors after driving Gu Qing to her death was a complete mystery to her.
Now, the moment for the mystery to be solved was finally upon them.
Qin Huai took a deep breath, finally moving her toe and taking a small step forward. “Let’s go.”
“Do you want to take a moment to compose yourself?”
Qin Huai blinked, her eyes returning to their usual calm, as if the impending revelations had nothing to do with her. “No need.”
Having said this, Qin Huai stepped forward, but only then did she clearly see the outline of the old man in the reclining chair.
When the two reached the balcony, the old man had his eyes closed, fanning himself with a hand fan. Hearing footsteps stop in front of him, he paused his fanning, looked sideways, and said, “You still came.”
The old man was a Beta. Although advanced in age, the white hair at his temples, combined with his benevolent smile and unhurried tone, suggested that his emotions had been extremely stable in his youth.
Qin Huai first bowed deeply to the old man, and Shen Zhi did the same. This was their gratitude to the old man for being willing to tell the truth. After straightening up, Qin Huai finally spoke, “Excuse the intrusion, Grandpa. I am Gu Qing’s daughter, Qin Huai.”
This title felt unfamiliar to Qin Huai. Growing up, she had never told anyone she was anyone’s daughter, only her own name. Yet, suddenly speaking this title now, Qin Huai felt a little lighter.
“I know,” the old man lay back on the reclining chair and closed his eyes again.
Qin Huai knew this wasn’t the time to rush, so she engaged in light conversation. “How do you know?”
“Of course, it’s because you resemble Gu Qing,” the old man paused midway, “Actually, not entirely. Gu Qing wasn’t as aloof as you.”
“Then what was she like?” Qin Huai asked.
The old man suddenly opened his eyes, squinting at the bright sunlight ahead. “She was a very formidable researcher.”
Not someone’s wife, not someone’s daughter, not someone’s mother setting all that aside, Gu Qing had an identity: a researcher.
Qin Huai’s nose tingled, and she forcefully suppressed the collapse of her emotions. “How was she formidable?”
“You people of this generation live too well and don’t know the dangers of society back then,” the old man’s voice was gentle, like an old tree suddenly speaking in a fairy tale world, his tone weathered and full of stories. “At that time, the number of people who were raped by Alphas during an Omega’s heat period was increasing year after year. Even though the government had issued clear regulations, it still couldn’t be prevented.”
“It was then that Gu Qing came up with the idea of researching inhibitors. She took her classmates, friends, and roommates, with great determination, and paved this thorny path for later researchers.”
“And then?” Qin Huai roughly knew these things from her grandmother’s recordings, but hearing them from another person’s mouth felt different again.
“And then?” The old man suddenly became enraged at this point. “It was all that Qin Zhijing’s fault later on!”
The young girl in the kitchen heard the old man’s agitated voice and rushed over, crouching down in front of him. “Grandpa, your health isn’t good. The doctor told you not to get too emotional.”
“How can I not be emotional!” the old man said. “If it weren’t for Qin Zhijing, with Gu Qing’s ability at the time, getting national level recognition would have been just around the corner. You might not be able to understand my feelings, but try to imagine a straight A student who could have entered the nation’s top university, but because of a scoundrel’s interference, was ultimately confined to her home.”
“But Grandpa, your body!”
“I know my body. I’ll hold on to my last breath to see Qin Zhijing go to prison!” The old man’s face flushed. “I want to see him receive the punishment he deserves.”
Qin Huai stood stunned, the old man’s words echoing in her ears, the blurred shadow in her heart gradually becoming clearer. Just as she was about to speak, Shen Zhi suddenly interjected.
“Grandpa, do you know that he not only hasn’t been punished but is also using Omega’s pheromones for research?” Shen Zhi crouched slightly, her eyes fixed intently on the old man’s, her gaze intensely pressing. “Have you heard of this?”
“What!” The old man slammed the armrest, his voice much louder than before.
Shen Zhi had been closely watching his expression and naturally did not miss that despite the raised volume, his eyes showed no surprise, as if he knew all about the matter.
“I thought he would stop, but I didn’t expect him to keep going,” the old man said.
Shen Zhi narrowed her eyes and asked, “Why did you think he would stop?”
“Because he researched inhibitors for Gu Qing!”
