The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 75
The next morning, Shen Zhi hailed a taxi. After telling the driver the destination, she turned to look at Qin Huai sitting next to her.
Since the words were spoken last night, Qin Huai’s emotions were like a faint flame, retracting and flowing freely. She was silent as usual; after washing up, she went to bed, and when Shen Zhi came out, she was already asleep with her eyes closed.
Everything seemed normal, but the stagnation of emotion affected the molecules in the air.
How could Shen Zhi not feel it? Just like now, ever since getting into the car, Qin Huai had been staring intently at the receding streetscape outside the window, lost in thought.
Shen Zhi stared at the half of her profile, feeling intensely frustrated inside, but as soon as she thought about Qin Huai’s current state of mind, no matter how frustrated, she could only suppress it, not showing a single bit of it.
She looked at the omega’s hands resting on her lap, those clean, slender hands only suitable for wearing gloves and doing experiments in a lab, truly unsuitable for dealing with these confusing trivial matters.
Shen Zhi frowned, placing her hand over Qin Huai’s intertwined hands, grabbing them in a reassuring manner.
Qin Huai, who was staring out the window in a daze, felt the unfamiliar hand on the back of hers. She turned to look at the alpha next to her and forced a slight smile.
The mountain road was not rugged, but the numerous twists and turns made people feel dizzy. The driver occasionally made a sharp turn, and Qin Huai gripped the handle tightly to keep herself from being thrown around.
Five minutes away from the lab, the smooth concrete road was replaced by a muddy dirt path. Shen Zhi glanced at the pale faced Qin Huai beside her and finally asked the driver to pull over.
As soon as Qin Huai got out of the car, the churning feeling of nausea in her stomach settled slightly, then quickly rushed to her throat like a tidal wave. She covered her mouth with one hand, pulled her other arm away from Shen Zhi’s supporting grip, and ran to the roadside to dry heave.
Shen Zhi took a piece of tissue from her pants pocket and half-squatted behind Qin Huai, gently patting her back. Neither of them had brought water up the mountain, and this small mountain was already remote. Shen Zhi looked around, forward and backward let alone someone selling water, not a single person was in sight.
Qin Huai dry heaved a few times, and her stomach finally felt a little better. She took the tissue from Shen Zhi’s hand and wiped the corners of her mouth, her voice sounding somewhat weak, “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Shen Zhi, worried the tissue wasn’t enough, pulled out another one from her pocket and handed it over, “I should have brought water when we left.”
Qin Huai took the tissue and smiled, “Don’t take responsibility for everything. It clearly has nothing to do with you.”
Since last night, her mood had not been bright. All her worries were suppressed to death, like food left outside the refrigerator on a hot summer day, sitting out all night, finally turning sour.
Just as Shen Zhi was about to say something more, she saw Qin Huai next to her raise her right arm into a right angle, her palm facing down with her five fingers cupped, making a grasping gesture. Shen Zhi immediately reached out, grabbed her palm, and helped the omega stand up.
“Alright, don’t think so much.” Qin Huai had slightly more strength than before, “We still have important business to attend to.”
Having reached this point, they had to go to the lab no matter what. Shen Zhi understood Qin Huai’s personality and knew she wouldn’t back down.
At the entrance of the lab, Qin Huai stopped abruptly. This lab was built very discreetly. Several meters tall bamboo trees were densely planted, the ground was covered with long bamboo leaves, and the lab itself was two stories high. Just from the exterior, it was evident how much manpower and financial resources had been invested.
Standing at the doorway, Qin Huai vaguely felt as if something was about to tear apart.
Since childhood, school had been pure and solemn in her heart. Teachers educated and nurtured, diligently cultivating generations of students. These students had different personalities, and not all of them would become pillars of society. Some students appeared mischievous but were fundamentally pure and kind; some studied hard, year after year, day after day, and finally achieved good grades and some students appeared clean to others, but their insides were already packed with malicious intent.
The lab, in Qin Huai’s view, had always been a place of pure research, cold and rational, but some people, because of what they researched, gave the lab a sense of warmth. She had never imagined that in a space unknown to her, a lab could become numb because of people.
The crack on the glass grew longer and longer, finally bursting with a “pop” sound.
Qin Huai felt that some things she had held onto were tearing apart.
“Huai Huai, if you’re scared, wait for me outside,” Shen Zhi asked gently, seeing the hand holding her arm trembling.
This voice pulled the immersed Qin Huai back. Her eyes were sore from staring at things for too long, so she blinked slightly, “There’s nothing to be afraid of. The one who’s wrong is him. Let’s go.”
Shen Zhi replied with an “Mhm,” supported Qin Huai toward the main door, and pressed the doorbell.
After about two minutes, a Beta wearing glasses rushed to open the door. Looking at the doorway, she pushed up her glasses and asked, “Hello, who are you looking for?”
Shen Zhi had already prepared an excuse: her family had a partnership with this lab, so it wouldn’t be a problem for her to come for an inspection as the young owner.
However, she didn’t get to use the excuse.
After pressing the doorbell, Qin Huai naturally broke free from Shen Zhi’s support. Although her face was still pale and bloodless, paired with those cold eyes, it was enough to intimidate many people. “Go ask Qin Zhijing, did he make an appointment when he gave birth to me?”
The Beta immediately understood, said to wait a moment, and ushered them inside.
She led the two to the conference room on the first floor, poured two cups of hot water, and placed them in front of them. “Please wait for a moment. I’ll go upstairs and ask Professor Qin.”
Qin Huai blinked without speaking.
The Beta understood and immediately left the conference room, closing the door behind her.
After the conference room returned to silence, Shen Zhi rotated her chair next to Qin Huai, grabbed her hand, and said, “Don’t be upset.”
Qin Huai’s feeling of distress had passed, but she was now dwelling on all sorts of messy thoughts, worried she wouldn’t be able to get answers from Qin Zhijing later. Her palm was suddenly held. She looked sideways, and Shen Zhi was half-bent, hunched over, with shallow creases forming when she lifted her eyelids.
“I’m not upset.” Qin Huai raised her hand and stroked her head, “I’m just having a headache about how to face him later.”
Shen Zhi was silent for a moment, then replied with an “Mhm,” “Is it because of disappointment?”
“Not exactly.” Qin Huai pursed her lips, “I just thought of my mom. I just don’t understand how someone like Qin Zhijing could be someone my mother was willing to marry.”
“I’ll take you to see someone after we leave here.”
Qin Huai’s curiosity was piqued, “Who?”
Shen Zhi smiled to lighten the mood, “It’s the father of the person you suspected I was cheating with.”
Mentioning this misunderstanding, Qin Huai couldn’t help but smile, shrugging her shoulders for a while. Just as she was about to speak, the door was pushed open from outside.
The Beta who had just left was sweating a little, her shirt collar sticking to her skin. “Miss Qin, I’m sorry, Professor Qin isn’t seeing anyone today.”
It wasn’t that she hadn’t anticipated this situation. Qin Huai’s shoulders, which had just relaxed, tensed up again. “What did he say?”
The Beta remembered the white-coated Professor Qin in the lab just now, not even raising an eyelid, even after she had told him who was waiting outside. The professor remained completely unmoved.
Qin Huai looked at the Beta who hadn’t spoken for a long time and suddenly let out a very soft laugh, “Does he think that by not coming to see me, he can avoid me knowing everything? Does he think silence can quell the questioning of the omega who lost her life?”
“How could that be? Go tell him, I will definitely know what I want to know.”
“And the person I want to send in will definitely be sent in.”
After saying this, Qin Huai stood up from the chair, not looking back, and said to Shen Zhi, “Let’s go.”
After leaving the lab, Qin Huai fell into silence. Shen Zhi knew that nothing she said could soothe her emotions right now, so she could only remain silent with her.
However, all the silence suddenly cleared up when Qin Huai walked onto the smooth concrete road.
“I know.”
Qin Huai suddenly said, staring at the ground, startling Shen Zhi, who quickly asked her, “Know what?”
“I know how to find the truth now.” Qin Huai’s eyes suddenly became very bright, and when she looked at Shen Zhi, hope was rekindled, “I need to go home.”
“I’ll go with you,” Shen Zhi said.
Qin Huai nodded with a firm “Mhm.”
Halfway up the mountain, let alone a taxi, even after Shen Zhi called for a car, no one was willing to accept the order. There was no choice but to walk down the mountain road slowly.
At the foot of the mountain, people gradually appeared. Shen Zhi called a car using an app, and the two stood there waiting.
Thank goodness someone was finally willing to take the ride this time. In less than ten minutes, the two were in a car heading to Qin Huai’s home.
Although Qin Huai didn’t go home often, the house key was strung together with the lab key, and Qin Huai always carried the lab key no matter where she went.
Once at Qin Huai’s house, Qin Huai had no time to entertain Shen Zhi but rushed into the storage room.
Shen Zhi looked at the dust-filled boxes and the palm-sized light source on the wall, asking Qin Huai, “What are you looking for?”
“A doll,” Qin Huai opened the boxes one by one.
Shen Zhi started from the other side of the storage room, rolled up her sleeves, and asked, “What does it look like?”
“Green, very old.” Qin Huai frowned in recollection, “There are also needle marks on the back of the doll where it was sewn.”
Shen Zhi nodded, roughly understanding, and joined Qin Huai in searching through the storage room.
As time passed, Qin Huai’s forehead was covered in sweat, and her palms were smeared with a thin layer of dust. The object she was looking for still hadn’t been found, making her increasingly anxious. Finally, her emotions erupted, and she kicked a box hard with her foot.
Seeing Qin Huai about to kick it a second time, Shen Zhi immediately wrapped her arms around her from behind. “Huai Huai, take a break. I’ll look.”
“Shen Zhi, am I useless?” Qin Huai relaxed her strength, her fragile eyelids trembling, “I can’t even find the doll my grandmother gave me.”
“How could you not find it?” Shen Zhi helped her sit on a low box and half-knelt in front of her. “Don’t worry, I’ll find it.”
“What if we can’t find it?”
Although Shen Zhi didn’t know why Qin Huai suddenly needed to find this doll, she subconsciously felt it must be very important to her. She placed both hands on the box next to Qin Huai and leaned in to kiss her lips.
A faint sandalwood scent wafted through the air.
Qin Huai’s previously agitated mood gradually calmed down. Her eyes were dark and deep. Looking at Shen Zhi, she said, “That doll has something my grandmother left for me.”
“It’s about Qin Zhijing.”
