The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 68
When everything she had painstakingly managed was exposed by Shen Zhi, Qin Huai felt as if she were plunging into endless darkness, the sense of weightlessness like hundreds of ants gnawing at her heart. This feeling made her extremely uneasy.
“I…” Qin Huai lowered her eyes, her lips moved, but only a single syllable escaped her throat before she became speechless.
Since Shen Zhi knew she secretly applied the medicine at night, she must also know about the kiss. The reason she hadn’t brought it up was likely to spare Qin Huai’s dignity and avoid causing her embarrassment.
After all, she was the one who had proposed the separation.
Shen Zhi, sitting on the sofa, lifted her eyes. From Qin Huai’s perspective, those pupils were clear, filled with an intense fervor, desperately seeking an answer from her.
Qin Huai only dared to glance once before looking away, her gaze returning to a neutral distance. She said flatly, “You must be mistaken.”
Shen Zhi: “I am not.”
“You are just mistaken.” Qin Huai’s eyes were filled with the agitation of being exposed. She knelt down in front of Shen Zhi, her slender fingers taking the medicine box. “I hate all smells related to medicine.”
After speaking, Qin Huai focused on Shen Zhi’s ankle. The red medicated oil spread across her palm, and the sticky texture made her skin feel hot. She remained silent, pressing her palm against the still-swollen area.
During Shen Zhi’s susceptible period, Han Yishuang called several times, but Qin Huai turned her away each time, citing work. Although she hadn’t gone to the lab these past few days, Qin Huai hadn’t been idle. She locked herself in the bedroom, using her computer to search for a lot of data and obtain useful information, which she was waiting to put into use once she returned to the lab.
The temperature wasn’t low today. Qin Huai was only wearing a thin dark top and black trousers, carrying her laptop. Upon reaching the lab, she, as usual, put on her white coat directly. As she was locking her phone in the locker, she subconsciously glanced in Shen Zhi’s direction.
Shen Zhi’s foot wasn’t fully healed yet, making prolonged standing unsuitable. Experiments themselves required constant repetition, a process that was incredibly dull and monotonous. Shen Zhi would easily get bored staying inside, and Qin Huai would be too busy with the experiment to look after her, let alone take the time to set aside her work and help her back to the lounge.
Qin Huai hesitated, then finally closed and locked the cabinet. “Wait for me here for a moment.”
Shen Zhi was supporting herself on the edge of the table with one hand, the other resting on the zipper of her jacket. She asked, puzzled, “What’s wrong?”
Qin Huai: “Your foot is injured. I’ll have to look after you once we’re inside, and that’s inconvenient.”
Shen Zhi was having none of it. She pulled down the zipper and said carelessly, “You don’t need to look after me. Anyway, my foot is injured, and you’re not the one taking care of me.”
At this moment, Qin Huai suddenly regretted her actions. She hadn’t expected that denying applying the medicine would make the situation this difficult.
The zipper was already down. Shen Zhi bent her injured leg, hopping on one foot to the coat rack, grabbing the white coat with her name on it, and putting it on, using anything that could serve as a support.
Young Alphas were always like this reckless in their actions, never considering what would happen if they felt unwell once inside.
Qin Huai suddenly came back to herself and had to face one fact it seemed that in Shen Zhi’s world, the word “if” never existed.
But Qin Huai had to be cautious. Years of solitary living had made her accustomed to life alone. She had progressed from initially disliking it to now enjoying it, but she was uncertain about Shen Zhi.
She wasn’t sure if Shen Zhi liked it too, or if she would suddenly realize that Qin Huai was boring and her life was impoverished, and then kick her aside.
Aside from studying, she had no other hobbies. In fact, studying might not even count as a hobby, as it was something she had adapted to and was forced to do since childhood, just like eating and sleeping.
After a long silence, Qin Huai finally spoke to remind her, “Where is the cat?”
Shen Zhi had just put on the white coat, with only the last two buttons left to fasten. Hearing Qin Huai mention the cat, her eyes brightened. “It’s with my parents.”
“I haven’t seen it in a long time,” Qin Huai quietly blinked. “Go bring it back.”
Shen Zhi hadn’t seen the kitten for four days. Although she was at ease knowing the kitten was staying with her parents, well-fed and provided for, Qin Huai liked it.
Shen Zhi fastened the second-to-last button. “After the experiment, you’re coming with me.”
“I’m not going,” Qin Huai said. “I want to see the cat right now.”
Shen Zhi couldn’t argue any further and had to agree. Before leaving, she made sure several times that Qin Huai would wait for her in place, and only after Qin Huai agreed without hesitation did she finally leave.
The laboratory returned to silence. Qin Huai sensed the empty atmosphere, and a feeling of loneliness suddenly welled up in her heart.
But she only dwelled on it for a few seconds before heading back into the lab.
The experiment was already 70% complete, with the remaining 30% only requiring the last reagent and the final finished pheromone. Qin Huai sat in front of the beaker wearing goggles, her normally somewhat distant gaze now intensely focused.
The laboratory was cold and quiet. Everyone’s workbench was cleaned spotlessly, the glassware wiped clean, and in the middle, large electronic machines were placed on a two-tiered shelf. Small screens flashed with Arabic numerals, counting time in seconds.
Qin Huai looked at the reagent she had formulated in the test tube she was holding and took a deep breath.
After so many failures, the hope she initially held for this matter had dwindled to almost nothing. Failure was too easy, making success seem especially precious. If Gu Qing and the others had put so much effort into achieving success back then, how could she possibly accomplish it so easily now?
Qin Huai tightly closed her eyes, feeling the air in her chest slowly rise, and then opened her eyes.
The colored reagent slid down the glass tube.
Drip
It dropped into the beaker containing the other reagent.
Qin Huai watched quietly.
When the reagent finished dripping, no miracle occurred. The two liquids collided, but no significant change happened. Qin Huai sighed in disappointment, took off her mask, and pinched the bridge of her nose, allowing her whole body’s fatigue to ease slightly.
Her actions only lasted for a few seconds before the lab door was knocked from the outside.
Qin Huai put her mask back on, went to the door, and unlocked it. “Coming.”
The door opened from the inside.
Qin Huai looked at Han Yishuang standing outside and asked, “Is something the matter, Senior?”
Han Yishuang shook her head. “I’m fine, but someone else is.”
When Qin Huai left the lab, her mask was still hanging on her face because she was in a hurry, but she didn’t pay it any mind. Following Han Yishuang’s directions, she went to the school gate.
Hao Yan’s parents were waiting at the security office by the school gate.
Unlike the well-dressed, energetic college students, Hao Yan’s parents were hunched over, wearing floral long-sleeved tops, standing at the gate. The mother’s body was extremely frail; one could even clearly see the bones in her wrists.
Qin Huai had a strong impression of Hao Yan’s parents from seeing them at the police station gate that day. When Han Yishuang told her who was looking for her at the lab door, she had already guessed.
Qin Huai quickly walked up to the couple, her tone cool but not hostile. “Hello, I am Qin Huai. I heard you were looking for me.”
Only up close did Qin Huai clearly see that the couple’s hair roots were full of white strands, their foreheads covered in wrinkles. Especially their eyes, long hours of sleeplessness had caused large bags under them, making them look ten years older.
When the couple saw Qin Huai, their bodies froze for a moment. Then, ignoring the hardness of the stone slabs on the ground, they immediately knelt down. “I beg you, save my daughter.”
Qin Huai was startled by the movement. She quickly grabbed one arm of each of them, stopping the action. “Please stand up and tell me what’s wrong.”
The middle-aged Omega’s tears poured down, as if only through this action could she vent the long-suppressed emotion. Hao Yan’s father looked away, his gaze hanging in the air, sighing deeply.
At this time, many students were returning from outside the campus. Also, Qin Huai was already well-known at Jiangcheng University, so every student passing by glanced at them twice.
The couple had asked Han Yishuang to find her, so they definitely had something important to discuss, and the school gate was not the place to talk. Therefore, after the third group of students cast curious glances and chattered about something, Qin Huai spoke: “Let’s go inside the school.”
The mother’s sobbing stopped. The father’s empty gaze fell on Qin Huai, and he sighed heavily. “No need. We just have something we want to say to you.”
Most people in the school were students, and a sudden appearance of a middle-aged outsider would inevitably draw much attention. Judging from their appearance, the couple looked honest and decent; they probably wouldn’t appreciate any strange glances from others.
Qin Huai hesitated for a moment and finally nodded.
But just as she moved her chin, the seemingly composed Omega’s eyes widened instantly. Tears rolled down the corners of her eyes, making her gentle expression look incredibly pitiful. She tightly gripped Qin Huai’s forearm with both hands, her fingers digging into Qin Huai’s skin. She spoke somewhat incoherently: “I – I know you are Hao Yan’s classmate. Please help her.”
The Omega’s palm was thick, and Qin Huai could clearly feel the rough calluses when it touched her skin. Qin Huai was unaccustomed to strangers getting so close to her and was about to pull away, but in that moment, when she looked down, she saw the slack, darkened skin on the back of the Omega’s hand.
Qin Huai blinked and quietly pulled her hand back. “Please don’t cry, speak slowly.”
The middle aged Omega’s crying was repressed and heavy. It was so painful that whenever she brought up Hao Yan’s name, her speech system seemed to go awry. “I know my Yan Yan’s temper. She wouldn’t provoke anyone else; she has always been sensible. I heard that Qin Zhijing is your father. I beg you to ask him, what exactly did Yan Yan say when she met him?”
Hearing the name Qin Zhijing, Qin Huai’s body stiffened for a moment. All she could hear in her ears was a buzzing sound. She allowed the middle-aged Omega to shake her arm. Her thin body felt like a puppet on strings; if someone gently tugged, she would fall to the ground and shatter into pieces.
The middle aged Alpha was the first to notice Qin Huai’s daze. He pulled his wife’s sleeve and quietly comforted her, “Calm down first.”
“You can calm down, but how can you expect me to calm down?” All emotions require an outlet. From the moment the middle aged Omega received the news of her daughter’s death until now, all her emotions had been suppressed in her chest, silently internalized. Only now did she feel like her daughter was a kite, and though she held the string, the kite had flown somewhere far away.
