The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 68.1
“My daughter was good at studying and never caused her father and me any worry since she was little. She never asked for money to buy study materials or pay for tutoring. She was so sensible. She took part-time jobs whenever she had a holiday. I told her not to tire herself out, but she told me it was okay; as long as she got into graduate school, she could help professors with experiments to earn money.”
“What’s the use of saying all this now? Our daughter is gone,” the middle-aged Alpha’s hand, gripping his wife’s shoulder, was tense. His voice was extremely subdued, and the blue veins were clearly visible through his skin.
Qin Huai could no longer focus on what the couple was saying. To be precise, the moment they mentioned Qin Zhijing, her mind went blank.
She didn’t know much about Qin Zhijing. Perhaps when she was young, she longed for someone to care about her, but once she passed that age, all attention became irrelevant to her.
However, this didn’t represent her complete view of Qin Zhijing. Frankly speaking, putting aside all the messy things, Qin Zhijing was indeed one of the best in his field, and she never avoided this fact.
But now, a single sentence from the other party shattered the peace she had maintained for so many years, a peace that was already full of cracks.
The Omega was frail, her face pale. Her fingertips had long grown cold. She stared with a pair of dark eyes, yet her gaze was dull. “What does this have to do with Qin Zhijing?”
When the topic returned to the main point, the couple’s argument finally ceased. They turned around together, and their bodies paused slightly as they saw Qin Huai.
The Omega stood in the bright sunlight, which sprinkled golden flakes all around her. She was wearing simple long sleeves and trousers, her exposed neck very white. Her face was completely drained of color, and even her lips were chapped from not speaking for a long time.
The middle-aged Alpha embraced his wife, his voice somewhat heavy. “We have been waiting at the police station gate for the past few days. We can find out anything that happens. Just today, I heard the police say that my daughter’s body was found on the mountain outside your father’s laboratory.”
Qin Huai understood every word of this sentence, but put together, they made no sense to her.
Corpse, laboratory, mountain.
Qin Huai knew her father had a lab off-campus, but she didn’t know its exact location. Her relationship with Qin Zhijing was distant; normally, neither would interfere in the other’s life. Since Qin Huai started using various excuses to avoid parent-teacher meetings, she rarely spoke to Qin Zhijing actively.
But now, someone suddenly told her that her father was involved in the death of her classmate.
She didn’t know whose words to believe because the matter itself sounded completely unbelievable to her.
In her ears were the continuous sounds of sobbing and the Alpha’s low-volume comfort. Qin Huai quietly looked at the couple embracing each other until her vision blurred, then she blinked her sore eyes.
“Don’t worry,” Qin Huai moved her lips, struggling to form her words. “I will ask him.”
Returning from the school gate to the lab, Qin Huai’s heart felt tightly constricted, leaving no room to breathe. She first went back to the changing room, took out her phone from the locker, and sat on the stool, her fingertips tapping on the screen.
Seeing the long number labeled “Dad,” she finally made the call.
The phone rang with a pleasant tone for a full minute, finally followed by a mechanical female voice.
“Sorry, the number you dialed cannot be connected…”
Qin Huai hung up, then, unwilling to give up, she called again. The result was the same.
She continued to call and repeat the action.
It seemed that at certain times, people would crave certain things, just like making phone calls, relentlessly calling as if trying to vent.
After about a dozen calls, there was still no answer. Qin Huai finally gave up, turned off the screen, and put the phone back in her pocket.
The changing room was very quiet, occasionally interrupted by the whoosh of the water dispenser barrel beside her.
Qin Huai sat quietly, blocking out all outside noise, until her phone rang.
It was Qin Zhijing.
Qin Huai immediately answered, but as she was about to speak, she wasn’t sure how she should broach the subject.
Qin Zhijing on the other end spoke first, his voice as formal as ever, “Qin Huai?”
Qin Huai hummed, “I’m here.”
“You” He paused, which was rare. “You know?”
“I’m not sure,” Qin Huai leaned over, resting her elbows on her knees. “And I don’t understand.”
Qin Zhijing said, “What is there not to understand?”
“I just don’t understand why?” Qin Huai couldn’t figure out why her father’s experiment would involve Hao Yan, and why he would harm Hao Yan’s life.
“What’s not to understand?” His voice suddenly brightened. “My experiment requires a large amount of Omega pheromones. Qin Huai, that is a great experiment. If I succeed, perhaps I can save your mother.”
Hearing the different title, Qin Huai was stunned for a moment. She frowned and asked, “What does this have to do with my mother?”
“It does. If I can research a drug that completely suppresses Omega estrus, then Gu Qing wouldn’t have died in vain. It’s just that the preliminary investment for this experiment is too great, and I have to put in more effort.”
Even though Qin Zhijing spoke vaguely, Qin Huai understood what the “too great investment” meant.
She had never known how much Qin Zhijing was willing to dedicate to his career, but now she finally had a guess. All the obscured tracks gradually became clear.
She straightened up, held onto the table edge, and stood up from the seat. She gripped the table, her fingers digging into the wood, and said, “Qin Zhijing, you cannot do this! I will call the police!”
“Call the police? I just got back from the police station. Am I not fine now?” He scoffed, his voice cheerful. “Oh, right, help me tell your Alpha to be careful.”
Mentioning Shen Zhi, Qin Huai could no longer hold back. Her fingertips dug into the wooden table edge, almost breaking her nails. “Don’t touch her!”
“Whether I touch her or not depends on her. Tell her to stop being so nosy, or else” Qin Zhijing stopped halfway through his sentence, then laughed softly. When he spoke again, the residual laughter was still audible. “Or else, I’ll take her life.”
The call ended. Qin Huai stood by the table, her palms already sweating with cold.
She took a deep breath, and just as she was about to call Shen Zhi, the adjacent laboratory suddenly emitted a loud “Bang.”
The muscles in Qin Huai’s lower legs seemed to lose support. She instinctively took half a step back, covering her ears, and unconsciously sank into the stool she had just been sitting on. Her heartbeat was like a drum, the powerful thump-thump sound beating against her thin chest, strong and heavy.
