The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 63
The next day, Qin Huai stood in front of the dressing mirror. The omega in the mirror had swollen eyes, and the traces of under eye bags were clearly visible to the naked eye. Frowning, she dotted some concealer on her face, trying to hide the fatigue.
Today was Saturday. Originally, she didn’t have to go to the lab, but with Han Yishuang joining, the experiment finally had a breakthrough. Qin Huai had nothing to do in the dorm, so she decided to take her things and go to the lab.
The day the three of them held their small group meeting, Han Yishuang temporarily created a group chat. This group was usually quiet, mainly used for notifications or discussing the experiment. Qin Huai originally wanted to go to the lab alone, but then realized it might be inappropriate to leave out the other two since they were a team. So, she sent a message in the group to notify them.
[Qin Huai: I’m going to the lab this morning.]
Han Yishuang replied quickly.
[Han Yishuang: Okay, I’ll go with you.]
Qin Huai had no objection. Just as she was about to leave with her bag, her phone in her pocket vibrated twice. This time, the message was not from the group but a private message from a certain alpha.
[Shen Xiaozhi: Senior, I won’t be going to the lab with you today.]
Since it was a last-minute notification, Qin Huai didn’t expect everyone to be willing to come. She replied with “Got it” and turned off her screen.
However, this reply didn’t seem to satisfy the alpha on the other end, so messages continued relentlessly, with an air of persistence.
[Shen Xiaozhi: Senior, are you angry? Alright, I’ll tell you the truth. Last night, I showed off my cat in our family group chat, and Dad said I was neglecting my proper duties, so he dragged me to the company this morning.]
[Shen Xiaozhi: I can’t help it. After all, it’s not easy being a single mom. If I don’t work hard, our little Fatty won’t have food to eat.]
[Shen Xiaozhi: Oh, right, you don’t know who Little Fatty is, do you? It’s that little cat. I thought it was too skinny, so I gave it a name that sounds stronger.]
Shen Zhi typed very fast. Long sentences popped up with a new one coming every less than five seconds. Every time Qin Huai finished replying and was about to put her phone in her pocket, it would vibrate again.
Therefore, Qin Huai was busy the whole way, forced to hold her phone and join Shen Zhi’s conversation.
[Shen Xiaozhi: Senior, if there’s any new discovery in the experiment, you must tell me. Don’t secretly learn with Han Yishuang behind my back. Alphas are no good. I suspect Han Yishuang might just be trying to waste your time.]
This made it sound as if Han Yishuang was very (free/idle), although Qin Huai admitted that Han Yishuang was sometimes particularly free.
She had already reached the changing room door. Qin Huai opened her locker and leaned against the door, tapping briefly on the keyboard with her fingertips.
[Qin Huai: I will tell you about any progress in the experiment.]
Just as this message was sent, the changing room door was opened from the outside. Han Yishuang, smiling, pushed the door open with her arm while carrying her laptop. Seeing the omega casually leaning against the locker, she asked, “Are you this happy to see me?”
It wasn’t Han Yishuang’s fault for overthinking. Perhaps Qin Huai herself didn’t realize how gentle the emotion in her eyes was as she leaned against the locker, her long hair down, wearing loose-fitting casual clothes.
With her hands full, Han Yishuang couldn’t close the door, so she used her foot to push it shut. “I’ll take you out to eat after the experiment.”
Qin Huai moved away from the locker and stood up straight, taking her lab coat from the hanger. “No need. I don’t eat lunch.”
Han Yishuang didn’t insist. She put her laptop into her small locker and unbuttoned the thin shirt she was wearing over her clothes. “Then shall we work straight until the afternoon?”
If she hadn’t initiated this experiment, Qin Huai would definitely leave the lab immediately. With one arm already in her lab coat and the other hand holding the lapel, she was silent for a moment before saying, “I have something to do this afternoon, so I won’t be doing the experiment.”
Han Yishuang said, “Oh,” and, noticing Qin Huai’s reluctance, didn’t get angry. She hummed a little tune as she stuffed the thin shirt she’d taken off into her locker.
The entire teaching building was empty on Saturday, so any slight noise would be amplified. In the quiet changing room, there was only the sound of Han Yishuang humming and the rustle of clothes.
“Buzz, buzz.”
“Buzz, buzz.”
The humming stopped. Han Yishuang paused buttoning her clothes and turned to ask Qin Huai, “Your phone is ringing.”
Qin Huai knew who it was without guessing. She had already buttoned up her coat. By the time she took her phone out of the locker, Shen Zhi had sent her several messages.
[Shen Xiaozhi: Senior, I’ll come find you this afternoon. It might be hard for me to catch up with your progress, so please be patient and explain more to me then.]
[Shen Xiaozhi: Have you reached the lab? Have you seen Senior Han Yishuang? If you have, please tell her for me that I’m treating you both to dinner this afternoon.]
When Qin Huai saw the name at the end, her eyes subconsciously glanced at the person beside her. She helped Shen Zhi ask, “Are you free this afternoon? Shen Zhi wants to treat you to dinner.”
“She’s asking me?” Han Yishuang turned her back to the omega, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “Why doesn’t she ask in the group chat?”
Qin Huai herself didn’t realize there was anything wrong with relaying the message for Shen Zhi until Han Yishuang pointed it out. But the words were already out. Qin Huai didn’t want to spend a lot of time discussing the matter, so she could only honestly explain, “She was chatting with me and asked me to help ask.”
Han Yishuang raised an eyebrow, dragging out a long “Oh,” and lightly asked, “Are you isolating me?”
Qin Huai: “?”
Han Yishuang had finished buttoning her clothes and turned sideways to face Qin Huai. She turned the key inserted in the locker a full circle and locked it. “Tell your little alpha that she’s being too obvious. I won’t be joining the dinner this afternoon. Tell her I’ll be happy to treat her to a meal slowly when I’m free.”
The crisp sound of the lock clicking echoed in the room. Han Yishuang locked the locker and left.
Qin Huai stood still, holding her phone for a few seconds. Finally, her fingertips tapped on the keyboard, her expression visibly helpless.
Shen Zhi was sitting on the severely scratched sofa, watching Little Fatty skillfully paw at the blanket on the sofa, trying to climb up. The alpha snapped her fingers, and Little Fatty fell off the sofa again.
The phone buried under a pillow “buzzed” twice.
Shen Zhi lay horizontally on the sofa, pushing aside the annoying pillow with one hand. She propped her feet on the other armrest of the sofa, looking at the message sent by the omega. After reading it, Shen Zhi squinted, her dimples faintly appearing.
[Qin Huai: From now on, discuss official matters in the group chat.]
Her alpha father, Shen Wen, was changing clothes in the walk-in closet. Shen Zhi had to wait either way, so she sat up on the sofa, casually placed a pillow on her chest, and messaged Qin Huai.
[Shen Xiaozhi: What counts as an official matter? Is me treating Senior to a meal personal or official?]
[Qin Huai: Official.]
[Shen Xiaozhi: So treating Senior Han to a meal is official, but what about treating Senior Qin Huai? Personal or official?]
There was no reply from the other side.
Shen Zhi persisted. Gripping the sofa with one hand, she looked intently at the screen, typing so fast that one might suspect she had practiced multiple times.
[Shen Xiaozhi: Then what about pursuing Senior Qin Huai? Is that personal or official? If it’s personal, then I’m going to relentlessly pursue you.]
[Qin Huai: ……It counts as official.]
[Shen Xiaozhi: Another way of saying ‘official’ is that I’m pursuing Senior, so Senior can’t avoid me anymore.]
Ten minutes after this message was sent, Shen Zhi didn’t receive a reply from Qin Huai. Triumphant, she got up from the sofa and ran from upstairs to downstairs, urging Shen Wen to hurry up.
The Shen family business is related to inhibitors, but the lab they were meeting with today focused on pheromones, offering the Shen family a compound that could mask an omega’s pheromones. Shen Wen originally wanted to send his subordinate, but seeing Shen Zhi’s show off messages in the group chat last night made her seem too idle. Since it was a day off, Shen Wen calculated for half the night and decided to take Shen Zhi along.
The car drove from the urban area to the suburbs, and then from the suburbs to the wilderness. The road was uneven and muddy. Just as Shen Zhi was dozing off in the car, the car suddenly stopped. The driver in the front seat turned to Shen Wen respectfully and said, “Boss, we’ve arrived.”
Shen Wen closed the document he was reading and gave a shallow “Mm” with his nose, turning his gaze to his side.
Shen Zhi was dressed in a neat suit and had applied particularly professional makeup. In stark contrast was the tiny kitten nestled under her slender fingers.
“Shen Zhi, the cat just peed on your hand,” Shen Wen said slowly.
Shen Zhi sat up abruptly, a little dazed, and took her hand away to look left and right. “Let me see.”
Her hands were dry, with no sign of moisture. Shen Zhi realized she had been tricked and glared fiercely at her father beside her.
Shen Wen showed no sign of guilt. “I brought you here today for two reasons: one is to enrich your extracurricular life, and the other is that the owner of this lab is not much older than you and is also an alpha. How can they develop a compound that is closest to pheromones, while all you do is sleep with a cat?”
In some situations, Shen Zhi was extremely unmotivated. The first third of her life’s motivation was used up the moment she saw Qin Huai in high school, when all she wanted was to get into the same university as Qin Huai.
Little Fatty was called out and let out a very aggrieved “meow.”
Shen Zhi felt incredibly sorry for it. Like she was deliberately contradicting Shen Wen, she got out of the car, her hand still holding the cat.
Shen Wen was furious. Pointing at Shen Zhi, he asked, “Why did you bring it down?”
“Don’t look down on cats,” Shen Zhi said, stroking the cat’s fur and making something up. “They are one of the animals with the most sensitive sense of smell in the world. They can smell any slight change. If they try to trick you with expired products inside, maybe our Little Fatty can help you.”
Shen Wen was almost “killed” by his daughter’s “filial piety.”
The lab was located on a secluded half-mountain, surrounded by lush green plants, and the crisp sound of birds chirping echoed in the woods.
Shen Zhi followed Shen Wen in and was invited to the conference room. A large oval table occupied half of the room. An omega in professional attire pushed the door open with a glass of water. “I apologize, Boss Shen, our boss received a temporary notice from the school and had an emergency. Another person in charge will speak with you in a moment.”
Shen Wen nodded in understanding.
After the omega left, only Shen Zhi and Shen Wen were left sitting in the conference room. Shen Wen immediately started reprimanding his precious daughter again.
“Look at her. Even with an emergency notice from school, she still managed to arrange the meeting. Look at you, all you do is hold a cat.” Shen Wen took a sip from his water cup. “Take the cat away when we get back.”
“I’ll take it away, I will,” Shen Zhi said.
Shen Wen was so angry his chest hurt. Just as he was about to say a few more words, the conference room door was pushed open from the outside.
Shen Zhi had been maintaining a half bent posture until she heard the movement and looked up abruptly. The alpha at the door easily gave people an impression of seriousness and rigidity just by their appearance. Shen Zhi frowned, feeling a faint sense of discomfort.
Shen Wen, on the other hand, lit up when he saw the person. With a look of unexpected excitement, he stood up from his seat. “It’s you, Zhijing.”
