The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 57
When Qin Huai woke up, the spot next to her was empty. She lifted her eyelids and glanced over.
The bed beside her was neatly made, the blanket tucked in so tightly that not a single wrinkle could be seen, as if no one had ever slept there.
Qin Huai still had some memory of what happened last night. Shen Zhi had scooped up her naked body from the wet sheets, letting her rest her chin on his shoulder and holding her thighs, before placing her on the living room sofa.
Half-asleep and half-awake, Qin Huai opened her eyes. The skin on her thighs was delicate and glossy, like crushed pearl powder, but now this clean powder was mixed with too many other things. Red finger marks stretched from the side of her thigh all the way to her hips, which Qin Huai could clearly see when she bent her leg.
She lowered her gaze and instinctively traced the red mark with her fingertip. When she stopped at the hickey near her iliac crest, her brow suddenly furrowed more and more tightly.
Perhaps she didn’t even realize it herself.
That hickey was left by Shen Zhi after he hung up the phone. The young Alpha was extremely energetic, as if he had inexhaustible strength. When he pressed down on Qin Huai without caring for softness or pressure, the Alpha’s predatory dominance fully erupted in his eyes, a sense of conquest that no Omega could refuse.
Qin Huai couldn’t imagine what Shen Zhi would be like if another Omega saw him in this state.
The forest in her heart, which had been silent and windless, where even the fall of a leaf was light and airy, suddenly had a gust of wind sweep through it, rattling the leaves on the branches until they fell to the ground.
Qin Huai’s fingertips dug hard into the sofa cushion as she stared blankly at a spot.
“Shen Zhi, are you awake?” Qin Huai walked barefoot on the floor, her long hair cascading down like a waterfall. She reached up to sweep all her bangs back from her temples.
No one answered.
Qin Huai twisted the doorknob of the bedroom and called Shen Zhi’s name again, but still received no reply.
She looked at the clock in the living room, estimating where Shen Zhi usually was at this hour.
Half past eight.
If it were a day without a morning class, Shen Zhi would go out to buy breakfast, then come back and hug her to continue sleeping. If he had class, he would put the bought food on the coffee table and wait for her to wake up and eat.
But now, the coffee table was empty, spotless except for a glass that was half full of water.
The feeling from last night swept over her again. For a moment, Qin Huai couldn’t tell if she felt more disappointment or anger. She rushed back to the bedroom and started messaging Shen Zhi.
【Qin Huai: ?】
There was no immediate reply. Qin Huai waited on the bed for a full ten minutes before Shen Zhi finally messaged back.
【Little Zhi Shen: ?】
In those ten minutes, Qin Huai had already moved past her previous emotions. She lowered her eyelashes and stared closely at the question mark, finally sending back a simple response.
【Qin Huai: Nothing】
After sending the message, Qin Huai got out of bed and started changing clothes. After attending the exchange conference, she had more things to prepare. The Omega had sent her an inhibitor formula that she hadn’t officially started working on yet.
Shen Zhi kept Qin Huai’s toiletries at his place. Qin Huai stood in front of the bathroom mirror, looking at her reflection. After a long pause, she splashed cold water on her face.
When leaving Shen Zhi’s house, Qin Huai didn’t simply change her shoes and leave as usual. She remembered Shen Zhi’s repeated reminder to take the spare key from the entryway when she left, though Qin Huai had never taken it before.
This time, as she bent down to change her shoes, Qin Huai suddenly remembered. Her eyes lifted slightly, her thin eyelids raised. The spot where the hook was attached was empty; there was no key.
Qin Huai straightened up. The emotions she had been deliberately suppressing since last night suddenly exploded. She walked straight to the bathroom and threw all her toiletries into the trash can.
Back at school, Qin Huai first went to her dorm to change clothes, preparing to take her laptop to the lab shortly.
She pushed the door open as usual, and just as she assumed the dorm would be empty, a head suddenly popped out from the bed above.
Luo Chen pulled back the bed curtain, blinked, and asked, “Where were you last night? Confess honestly, right now.”
Qin Huai was used to her startled exclamations and dealt with her with silence.
Luo Chen gripped the iron railing of the bed, almost ready to jump down. “Were you with Shen Zhi last night?”
Qin Huai was putting her laptop into her bag. Her hand, which was pulling the zipper, paused slightly when Luo Chen’s words fell.
This small detail was naturally noticed by Luo Chen. She was as happy as if she had won the lottery and was ready to bungee jump on the spot. “It wasn’t for nothing that I argued endlessly with those haters. Huai Huai, you really didn’t disappoint me.”
Qin Huai slowly pulled up the laptop zipper. “What’s wrong now?”
“This morning, I was browsing the forum, and someone posted a photo of Shen Zhi with an Omega from another department. They were holding breakfast and talking and laughing together. Then the comments erupted, saying you two broke up.”
The laptop was already packed, only the charging cable was left. Qin Huai pulled the plug from the socket, coiled the long wire, and said calmly with lowered eyelashes, “No.”
Luo Chen, holding official information, had already pressed the record button while lying in bed. “I knew you hadn’t broken up. Huai Huai, say it again, I’m recording it, and I’ll post it on the forum later.”
“No need,” Qin Huai neatly coiled the white charging cable and, while zipping her backpack, turned to Luo Chen and said, “We were never together.”
“Huh?”
Qin Huai carried her water bottle, and as the backpack strap rested on her shoulder, she replied flatly, “Just a casual fling.”
Putting the Shen Zhi accident aside, Qin Huai believed everything could go back to where it was. As usual, she put on her goggles, stood at the lab bench, and carefully measured the volume of each solution with a measuring cup.
Perhaps she was too engrossed, as she didn’t notice the Alpha gathering around her.
“Huai Huai, what are you doing?” Han Yishuang stood behind Qin Huai, her eyes tracing Qin Huai’s jawline as she asked.
Qin Huai’s hand, holding the test tube, paused slightly, her heart feeling like it was churning. “Nothing.”
Han Yishuang said, “Oh,” and asked, “Can you briefly explain it to me?”
Qin Huai had already started her work. She neither agreed nor refused, just silently stared at the test tube with downcast eyes. Han Yishuang, not getting a response, thought she was unwilling to answer and was about to return to her spot when Qin Huai finally spoke.
The Omega wore a white long-sleeve shirt underneath and a loose white lab coat over it. The lab coat was neatly buttoned, and a clean stretch of collarbone was exposed to the air. As she lowered her head, her bangs occasionally brushed against that skin.
Qin Huai spoke unhurriedly about her experimental steps, her tone as flat as plain water. When she reached a certain point, afraid the other person wouldn’t understand, she elaborated, breaking down undergraduate-level knowledge points.
Suddenly, she felt an unfamiliar fingertip glide across her jaw. Qin Huai’s hand froze, and she instinctively flinched to the side.
“Huai Huai, I’m not Shen Zhi, you don’t have to explain it so thoroughly.” Han Yishuang retracted her finger, feeling relieved when she saw Qin Huai tuck her hair behind her ear.
Qin Huai, like someone abruptly awakened from a beautiful dream, had a faint look of disappointment flash across her eyes. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. If you’re willing to explain, I’ll listen carefully,” Han Yishuang said.
A troubled mind for an experiment could not be compensated for by attentiveness. Qin Huai took off her goggles, tossed her gloves into the trash can, and said, “No need.”
“Huai Huai, you”
Qin Huai turned her back to her, completely unaware that everyone’s attention was focused on them. She seemed to be speaking to herself, or perhaps to Han Yishuang: “No one would be willing to listen.”
Those long, complex, obscure tunes, no one would ever be willing to listen to her talk about them.
Except for Shen Zhi.
After leaving the lab, Qin Huai stood at the entrance of the teaching building. The sun was brilliant, and the tree branches by the road glistened. Qin Huai hadn’t been this quietly still for a long time, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to do.
She was planning to go back to the dorm to wash two pieces of old clothes she had changed out of, but on the way, she saw a cat.
A baby one, slightly bigger than her palm, with golden yellow fur all over its body. When it saw Qin Huai, its eyes widened and rounded, and it quickly ran to Qin Huai’s feet, rubbing its paws against her toes.
Qin Huai didn’t dare to move, afraid of startling the kitten. She could only kneel halfway down and carefully pick it up.
Their eyes met.
Qin Huai remembered the stray cat she had forgotten. This kitten had a similar color to that cat, and when she looked at its eyes, they were almost identical to the big cat in her memory.
It was as if her suddenly boring life had found a bit of fun.
Qin Huai held the kitten and prepared to walk toward the stray cat’s den. That orange cat was reckless because pets were not allowed on campus; it changed dorm buildings every day to beg for food. Everyone knew the cat was cute and would specifically buy ham sausages to throw to it, but no one knew where the cat’s home was.
Because no one cared about this trivial detail in life.
Qin Huai hadn’t cared either, until one rainy day when she saw the cat lying wet on a cardboard box. A certain spot in her heart was suddenly nudged by a finger.
So, she settled the cat in a secluded corner of the school. The place had a built-in pavilion, so even when it rained, the cat wouldn’t be soaked like that time.
Qin Huai found it hard to describe her current mood. She carried the kitten to the pavilion, but halfway there, the kitten suddenly started meowing incessantly.
Qin Huai guessed it was hungry, so she carried it to the school’s convenience store, intending to buy some ham sausage to feed it.
She chose the type the big cat usually ate. After paying at the checkout, she gently stroked the kitten’s head and whispered, “Come on, I’ll take you to find your mother.”
“Meow”
The kitten let out a gentle meow. Qin Huai curled her lips, praised it for being obedient, and was about to lift her foot to walk when she suddenly looked up, her eyes passing by a cake shop across the street.
Even the most exquisite cake shop at school couldn’t compare to those outside. The cramped space held a few white plastic tables and chairs, and the outside was decorated with tacky fake flowers, making the whole place feel cheap.
Yet, no matter how low-class the decor of this shop was, its floor-to-ceiling window was excellently constructed.
The transparent glass was spotless, without any messy stickers, making it easy for people outside to see inside at a glance.
In the quiet cake shop, under the warm yellow lights, Shen Zhi was smiling with pressed lips, his eyes looking at the Omega next to him. That Omega seemed to be amused, saying something while reaching out to hit Shen Zhi’s back.
What an intimate gesture.
The cat in her arms kept meowing softly, but the person holding it seemed not to hear. So, it had to rely on itself and jumped out of the warm embrace.
Qin Huai only felt the weight on her arm lighten. When she looked down, her arm was empty.
