The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 38
The sunlight refracted off the window, casting a small spot of light. The floating window sill, tiled with white porcelain, was clean and cold.
Qin Huai’s back leaned against the white porcelain, a chilling sensation seeping through her clothes, deep into her core. Even the soles of her feet felt terribly cold.
“What do you mean by all this?” Qin Huai blinked very slowly, maintaining the posture of her chin being lifted, “You’re unmarried, so I’d be your lover? You get married, so I’d be your mistress? Be your canary? To be carelessly trampled like a rag during your susceptible period?”
Qin Huai’s expression was calm, her tone the same as when she usually spoke in the lab. But Shen Zhi sensed a hint of disappointment in her dark pupils.
Her eyes hadn’t changed, her gaze hadn’t shifted, yet Shen Zhi just knew.
“Huai Huai, that’s not what I meant.”
Shen Zhi anxiously let go of her hand. Red finger marks appeared on Qin Huai’s fair chin, cruel, as if she had been abused. She curled a mocking smile, “Then what do you mean? Was what I said not specific enough?”
Shen Zhi couldn’t even explain clearly now, “I was lying to you just now.”
Qin Huai didn’t believe her at all, standing up from the window sill, “You alphas are all the same, Lin Qiu is, and so are you.”
The third-floor space was very quiet, making the rustling sound of the wind through the leaves exceptionally clear.
Even with her back away from the porcelain, that spot still felt cold, as if doused with a bucket of well water. Qin Huai’s feet found the floor, and her body finally felt solid. “You don’t need to tell me, and I don’t want to hear it. It’s over between us.”
Finished, she left the room without a backward glance.
Qin Huai was always decisive, never dragging things out. When doing experiments, if she encountered a difficult problem, she would plunge into it, not eating or sleeping until she found a solution. In relationships, when she discovered Lin Qiu confessing to another alpha, she would quickly withdraw, staying far away from Lin Qiu.
But Shen Zhi
Qin Huai silently recited the two words in her heart. All her previous understanding of this alpha seemed covered in a white mist, and for the first time, she sensed an unfamiliar feeling.
As Qin Huai reached the second floor, a ‘bang’ sounded from the third floor as a door slammed shut, followed by heavy footsteps, accompanied by the alpha’s anxious voice, “Huai Huai, wait for me.”
Qin Huai quickened her pace, taking two steps at a time down the stairs to the ground floor.
Zhou Yue was sitting on the living room sofa, sipping a cup of hot tea, with a glossy magazine resting on her lap. Hearing the noise, her gaze shifted from the magazine to the stairway.
The omega held onto the stair railing with one hand, slightly lowering her body to steadily regulate her erratic breathing. Her neck was slightly raised, long hair naturally hanging down her back, revealing a straight and smooth line, adorned with small red marks that were even more eye-catching against her pale skin.
Zhou Yue set down her teacup, frowning as she rose from the sofa, “Huai Huai, what’s wrong?”
Qin Huai’s grip on the railing tightened. Her mind, usually clear and logical during experiments, was unusually stuck. She blinked very slowly, just about to speak when the footsteps on the stairs grew louder and faster.
“Huai Huai, listen to me explain.” The alpha stopped at the first-floor corner of the stairs and called out.
Qin Huai straightened up, glancing at the living room sofa. The omega, who was only in her forties, had a serious expression just now, but now it had completely darkened. In the rare times Qin Huai had interacted with Zhou Yue, the last time she saw her look so upset was when Shen Zhi temporarily marked her.
And this time, with Shen Zhi behaving wildly in the bedroom and these vague words, it was likely only going to be worse.
Qin Huai took a deep breath, fingers tugging at her collar near her neck. Under Shen Zhi’s anxious gaze, she walked calmly to the living room. “It’s nothing, Teacher Zhou. I just came out of the restroom and heard Shen Zhi say you were looking for me, so I came down.”
Shen Zhi stopped in the dark corner of the stairway, looking down. The lie the omega told was like a window pane, easily shattered with a poke, yet she said it so calmly, as if the person grabbing the bedsheets on the bed just now wasn’t her. Shen Zhi pursed her lips, restraining her earlier impulsiveness, and slowly walked down.
“Teacher Zhou, is there something you needed me for?” Qin Huai asked, walking up to Zhou Yue.
“Nothing.” Zhou Yue’s expression softened temporarily, and she took Qin Huai’s hand, “Did Shen Zhi bully you when she returned to the room just now?”
Qin Huai froze for a moment, then quickly reacted, “She’s my junior, how could she bully me?”
Shen Zhi reached the first-floor landing and happened to hear this sentence, turning her gaze over.
While most omegas these days pursued the innocent and cute type, Qin Huai was the opposite. She was always composed, dressed in simple and clean clothes, with an old-fashioned inhibitor patch on her scent gland, maintaining her usual emotional stability. She looked easy to talk to, but in reality, she was extremely stubborn, unwilling to give up or admit defeat, yet at the same time, she was incredibly soft-hearted.
Just like now, by clarifying their distance, she was also subtly telling Zhou Yue that all the out-of-line things that happened earlier were tacitly approved by her, so there was no need to blame Shen Zhi.
This Qin Huai seemed to hold a spear in one hand and a shield in the other. While using the spear to stab at Shen Zhi, she couldn’t help but use the shield to protect her.
Shen Zhi curved her lips, a dimple deep on one side of her cheek, and flat on the other.
“Really?” Zhou Yue narrowed her eyes, suspiciously pressing for an answer.
“Teacher Zhou, my ideal type isn’t a junior.” Qin Huai covered her mouth with one hand, letting out a low chuckle. The hickeys near her collar were half-concealed. She faced the ambiguous marks with a frank tone, “Especially a junior as immature as Shen Zhi.”
Zhou Yue drew out a sound of ‘oh,’ not exposing her, and glanced thoughtfully at her daughter behind her. Her voice was devoid of emotion, “So rude, not calling your senior ‘Senior Sister’.”
The immature alpha lightly coughed, hands in her pockets as she walked up to Zhou Yue, standing side-by-side with Qin Huai. The omega’s skin was pale, highlighting the blue veins on her neck. The red marks looked like snake bites, red enough to bleed. The alpha picked up the edge of the collar, vaguely covering the marks on the side of her neck, and played along, “Senior Sister, got it.”
The atmosphere between the two was like two magnets separated by a small distance, attracted to each other but unable to touch. With what Shen Zhi had said in the study earlier, Zhou Yue understood her daughter’s attitude, and pretended not to notice, mediating, “The auntie has prepared dinner. Go wash your hands and eat.”
Since there was a guest today, the housekeeper, under Zhou Yue’s instruction, had prepared a table full of dishes, with meat and vegetables, each dish perfectly colored, and the aroma filled the dining room.
Qin Huai washed her hands and emerged from the restroom, looking at the bright red dishes on the table. Her brow subtly furrowed. The elder sat at the head of the table, smiling and looking at her with expectation. This expression was too familiar to Qin Huai. The refusal was caught in her throat, so she could only brace herself and sit down.
“Huai Huai, we didn’t get to eat last time. This time, I specially asked Wang Jie to prepare some food for you.” Zhou Yue scrutinized Qin Huai’s face, tsking twice, her eyes full of tenderness, “You don’t take care of yourself doing experiments at school, you’ve gotten so much thinner.”
Qin Huai’s metabolism was the type that didn’t gain weight easily, plus she often forgot to eat when busy, making her look quite frail. Zhou Yue felt heartache for her friend’s daughter, picked up a piece of fish, and placed it in Qin Huai’s bowl, urging her, “Come often in the future, and I’ll ask the auntie to cook more good food to nourish your body.”
Qin Huai only offered a thank you, then looked at the red meat on the white rice, picked up her chopsticks, and took a small bite. “It’s delicious, thank you, Teacher Zhou.”
“If it’s delicious, then eat more.” Hearing that Qin Huai liked it, Zhou Yue immediately placed another piece in her bowl.
Thus, when Shen Zhi came down from upstairs, she saw Qin Huai’s bowl full of bright red chili and her eyes widened, saying, “Mom, she doesn’t eat spicy food.”
“What?”
Shen Zhi immediately rushed to the refrigerator, grabbed a bottle of water, twisted it open, and placed it in front of Qin Huai, repeating, “Her palate is light, she doesn’t eat spicy food.”
Qin Huai had been eating with difficulty, her ears were red. Now that a bottle of water was finally placed in front of her, she wanted to take it but was afraid Zhou Yue would misunderstand, so she explained, “I eat spicy food, but not too much.”
“Nonsense.” Shen Zhi pulled out the chair next to Qin Huai and sat down, picked up the cup of water from the table, and handed it closer to her mouth again, coldly uttering one word, “Drink.”
“Huai Huai, if you don’t eat spicy food, just say so. We can switch to some lighter dishes.”
Qin Huai watched Zhou Yue stand up with a worried expression. Her lips moved, and she took the water Shen Zhi handed her, slowly saying, “It’s alright, Teacher Zhou.”
“How can this be alright? What would you like to eat? I’ll have Wang Jie make it for you right now.”
“No need to trouble.” Qin Huai sipped the water, which barely managed to stop the fiery heat, “I’ll just change to a new bowl of rice.”
The contaminated rice was naturally inedible now. Qin Huai didn’t want to disrupt everyone’s dinner time or trouble the cooking auntie just because of her, but Zhou Yue was now full of self-blame, which made Qin Huai feel awkward and could only look at Shen Zhi for help.
Shen Zhi received the signal and comforted her mother, “No need to go to all that trouble, she can just eat my rice.”
So, in the astonished eyes of the two omegas, Shen Zhi very naturally swapped their bowls of rice. “Eat, I’ll keep an eye on her, you don’t need to worry.”
“No need, I’ll just get a new bowl.” Eating from the same bowl was far too intimate. Qin Huai had just distanced herself from her and couldn’t deal with it calmly.
“I don’t mind you.” Shen Zhi said, already picking up the chopsticks resting on Qin Huai’s bowl and taking a bite. She glanced at the person next to her and commented, “It’s quite delicious.”
The meal finally ended with Qin Huai’s rare speechlessness. After eating, Qin Huai was called upstairs by Zhou Yue.
It was the same storage room, but there was noticeably less dust than the last time she was here. A large part of the desk by the window had clearly been cleaned, and next to it, books emitting the musty scent of old pages were piled up.
Qin Huai silently followed behind Zhou Yue, her eyes sweeping over the bookshelves on all four walls. When Qin Huai was very young, growing up with her maternal grandparents, she had wondered more than once why her mother, Gu Qing, chose to commit suicide. If she didn’t like her father, why did she give birth to her?
Qin Huai held resentment toward this mother. All the pain of her childhood was inflicted upon her by Gu Qing. If Gu Qing hadn’t chosen suicide, would her maternal grandparents not have rejected her, and would Qin Zhijing have looked at her more, instead of letting her be locked in a dark storage room by the nanny, crying hysterically with no one to care?
“Huai Huai, how is your condition lately?” Zhou Yue walked to the desk, picked up a green notebook, and asked, with her back to Qin Huai.
“I don’t know.” Qin Huai collected the emotions in her eyes and replied, “My heat is very unstable, and I’m not sure when the next one will be.”
Zhou Yue stood in the sunlight, her back to Qin Huai, but her silhouette was unusually heavy. The only sound in the storage room was the rustling of her turning pages. After about three or four minutes, she turned around and handed the notebook to Qin Huai. “After you left that day, I went through all the notes here.”
The yellowed paper was slightly wrinkled. The handwriting looked hurried and shaky.
Qin Huai took the notebook and read it seriously from the beginning, her eyes widening in surprise as they moved down the page.
The notebook, more accurately, was a record book.
It documented the reaction of an omega on a certain day after taking the first generation of inhibitors. At the end of that page, after the final period, the name written was Gu Qing.
