The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 32
Qin Huai, dressed in a white lab coat, stood in the sunlight, her expression hidden behind safety goggles. The corners of her mouth were subtly pulled down, and her chin was tightly clenched in clear annoyance.
“No time,” the omega said, removing one glove without lifting her eyes.
“Then I’ll wait here for you. We can chat once you’re free.”
One glove was already off, held loosely in Qin Huai’s hand. Whether she had understood Lin Qiu’s words or not, the other glove was removed at a slow, deliberate pace. She was enveloped in warm, yellow light, her skin appearing luminously pale. When she lifted her head, her face was turned to the side. “If you want to wait, then wait.”
Then, the glove that moments ago had covered her hand to protect her skin from chemicals was unceremoniously dropped into the trash can, which she stepped on, before she left through the back door.
Most people in the lab were stunned. As Lin Qiu closed the door, discussions broke out. Only Shen Zhi’s mouth curved up slightly, unnoticed.
“What’s with the attitude?” Hao Yan retracted her gaze, frowning. In a not-too-loud voice, she said, “What’s wrong with having a chat?”
Shen Zhi was taking off her gloves. Hearing Hao Yan’s words, her movements paused slightly.
“Didn’t she make a big fuss before just to get attention? Now she’s acting all high and mighty, being such a hypocrite.”
The last part, “being such a hypocrite,” was whispered by the omega. Shen Zhi had been in a rush to leave and find Qin Huai for lunch, but now she slowly peeled off her gloves. After making sure the omega was finished, she finally raised her eyes. “Senior Sister, did anyone make a rule that you are obligated to chat with your ex after a breakup?”
The alpha’s lips curled into a tiny arc, but her eyes held no smile, and her tone was nonchalant.
Hao Yan hadn’t expected the new alpha junior sister to speak up for Qin Huai. Her expression was highly displeased. “No one made a rule, but shouldn’t a decent person be able to part amicably?”
“Part amicably?” Shen Zhi repeated, letting out a cold laugh. “Which eye saw them part amicably? Was it just those baseless, unverified rumors on the forum? It was Lin Qiu who cheated during the relationship, and it was Lin Qiu who permanently marked an omega in high school. What obligation does Qin Huai have to talk to her?”
The surroundings instantly quieted. Hao Yan’s eyes widened. She raised a finger and pointed. “You”
“I’m just speaking the truth,” Shen Zhi raised her eyelids and tossed her gloves away. “If you can’t understand it, that’s quite a pity.”
The entire lab consisted of fellow students. As Shen Zhi turned to leave, the surrounding chatter became noticeably louder than before.
Hao Yan was an omega after all, with thin skin. The scornful looks around made her feel mortified, so she directed all her anger at Shen Zhi. “What good is defending her? She still won’t agree to mentor you.”
Shen Zhi turned around, frowning. “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is, she looks down on you,” Hao Yan, feeling she had the upper hand, crossed her arms. “Otherwise, why do you think I’m mentoring you?”
Inside the locker room, Qin Huai stood by the coat rack, hanging up her lab coat and putting on her jacket.
The morning’s experiment was unfinished. She had planned to work a little longer, eat later, and then go back for a nap. But Lin Qiu’s interruption had completely disrupted her plans, forcing her to leave first. She tucked her phone into her pocket. As she turned to leave, only her lab coat hung on the empty rack, its pocket wide open with a solitary pen tucked inside.
Qin Huai returned to the rack, took out the pen, and placed it in her locker.
Outside the locker room, Lin Qiu paced nervously by the door. Hearing the door open, she stopped and looked straight ahead.
The omega stood at the doorway, her face like a death mask, showing no emotion. Her skin was pale, her frame small. The black jacket hung on her, emphasizing her protruding shoulder blades. Her figure was so thin it looked like a push could knock her over.
With the doorway blocked, the omega frowned, raising her eyes to glance at her. “Didn’t I make myself clear just now?”
Lin Qiu quickly walked over, trying to grab Qin Huai’s arm but missing. Her usually gentle face was etched with a wounded expression. “Huaihuai, do you really have to be this heartless?”
“What feelings do we have?” Qin Huai took a step back, widening the distance, and countered, “Family love?”
“Love.”
Qin Huai leaned against the doorframe, mocking, “Let’s skip the love. It tends to become a criminal case. Say what you have to say quickly. If you have nothing to say, get lost. We’re not at the stage where we can confide in each other.”
“Huaihuai, you can’t be like this. I liked you for five whole years.” Tears welled up in Lin Qiu’s pale eyes. She cried cautiously, looking wronged and pitiful. “Do you remember the first time you asked me out to dinner? It was raining that day, and you rushed to Hengjiu Building. I picked up your jacket downstairs, and I was worried you’d catch a cold. I asked several senior students before they finally told me where you were.”
“What did you say? Picked up my jacket?”
The weeping voice was cut off. Lin Qiu, an alpha, with tears in her eyes, thought Qin Huai had listened and softened, so she pressed on. “Yes, I even caught a cold trying to find you that day. I, I thought”
Lin Qiu kept sneaking glances at Qin Huai, secretly observing her expression. She stuttered to a halt when she met Qin Huai’s icy gaze.
The omega straightened up, pulling her back away from the doorframe. Her usually emotionless eyes seemed to blaze like an arsonist’s fire. “So, that day wasn’t you?”
Other than the day they broke up, Lin Qiu rarely saw the omega with such vivid emotion. Although she looked no different than usual, her neck was tense and slightly raised, and her cold jawline was sharply defined. Lin Qiu was scared. She shook her head first, then nodded, her words stammering.
Seeing her reaction, Qin Huai knew everything. Her face was set, and she prepared to leave.
But before she could take a few steps, her arm was grabbed again by the alpha behind her. “Huaihuai, please give a message to Shen Zhi for me. I will never bother her again. That person tortured me for four whole days. My scent gland is already severely damaged. If this continues, it will be ruined.”
Qin Huai was suppressing a burst of anger with nowhere to vent, and couldn’t stand the alpha’s relentless clinging. The fire in her heart was easily ignited, as if it had met a piece of paper. The omega forcefully flung her arm back, easily breaking free from the restraint.
Lin Qiu was unprepared. She stumbled back a few steps and fell onto the floor. Propping herself up on the cold tiles with her arms, she looked up and was startled.
The omega’s eyes were narrowed, her usually cold, drooping outer corners now slightly turned up. Her dark pupils held a thick, hidden disgust. The words she spoke were cold-blooded and merciless. “Even if you die, what does it have to do with me?”
Stripped of her indifferent exterior, the omega’s core was a chilling void. “I only hope you die far away and stop being an eyesore.”
Lin Qiu’s palm pressed against the tiles. For the first time, she truly experienced the words circulated among the alpha students in the department:
Just how heartless Qin Huai was when she rejected someone.
Coming out of the building and stepping into the warm sunlight, Qin Huai still felt absurd. She had thought the alpha who had spoken those words back then might have become less fervent and sincere after the passage of time. She never once thought she had mistaken the person from the very beginning.
Qin Huai walked in a daze on the way to eat, bumping into countless people. It wasn’t until a trailing willow branch brushed her shoulder that she stopped, suddenly turned around, and began running back towards Hengjiu Building.
She still wanted to go back and see if the person who had given her boundless courage back then was still there.
Qin Huai ran like a madwoman, her hair wind-swept and messy, her breathing uneven from the sudden acceleration. She was lost in her actions until she stopped at the rooftop and regained her senses.
The iron gate, over a meter high, was already rusty from the wear of time. Even the lock felt heavy with history.
Qin Huai touched it with a trembling hand, her palm icy cold. She slowly closed her eyes, hiding the shadows within.
It was half an hour later when she emerged from Hengjiu Building. Qin Huai’s hands were tucked in her pockets, and her eyes had returned to their usual stillness. It was almost an hour past lunchtime. She had no appetite and planned to go straight back to continue her experiment.
The wait for the elevator was boring and lengthy. To get back into her work state quickly, Qin Huai pulled out her phone to read some news she had recently organized about the first batch of inhibitors.
She had just lit up the screen when the group chat, usually only active with messages from her advisor, now showed 99+ notifications, along with many mentions of her.
Messages scrolled up one by one. The elevator happened to stop on the first floor. Qin Huai pressed her floor and scrolled through the messages. The cause was a video. Qin Huai frowned and clicked on it.
The video was less than ten seconds long. Hao Yan’s baby face was flushed with anger, and she said to Shen Zhi in a heavy tone, “You stay and clean the lab at noon.”
Combining this with the video, Qin Huai figured it out. After she left, Hao Yan must have said a few things, Shen Zhi didn’t like it, and they argued because Shen Zhi defended her.
Are they sick? Why clean the lab at noon when they have experiments in the afternoon?
Qin Huai put away her phone, looked up at the hopping numbers on the elevator, and, for once, muttered a curse word.
Upon reaching the lab floor, Qin Huai quickly walked to the lab and pushed the door open.
No one in the group chat had lied to her.
The water stains on the lab benches hadn’t dried yet. All the chemicals were neatly arranged back in their original, meticulously organized places. Water was running from the faucet. The alpha was currently bent over, wringing a rag.
Hearing the door open, the alpha looked over, her eyes filled with caution. Upon seeing who it was, the wariness flashed and disappeared, returning to her usual casual demeanor. “Senior Sister, you’re here so early?”
Qin Huai closed the door with a slight bang, frowning. “Who told you to do this?”
The rag was clean. Shen Zhi wrung the water out again. “It’s fine. Senior Sister just wanted to challenge me.”
“Shut up.”
Shen Zhi said “Oh,” lowered her eyes, tightened her lips, and the dimple on her cheek looked almost forced.
She looked wronged and helpless.
Qin Huai’s hand clenched and then relaxed. With a sour look, she asked, “Couldn’t you refuse?”
“It’s nothing. I was inexperienced this time. Next time, I’ll definitely remember to eat some breakfast beforehand to line my stomach.”
Qin Huai: “You haven’t even had breakfast?”
Shen Zhi shook her head. “No.”
Not eating and still trying to act tough.
Qin Huai snatched the rag, throwing it snap against the sink.
Shen Zhi’s hands were empty. Just as she was about to speak, the omega had already turned around.
“Come eat with me.”
The alpha loudly hummed her agreement, and the dimples in her cheeks naturally appeared.
“I’ll ask the advisor to switch my partner this afternoon. Forget it,” Qin Huai gripped the door handle, then changed her mind. “I’ll do the talking.”
