The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 31
While buying food, Liu Nian’s gaze kept drifting towards Qin Huai’s location.
In the cramped corner, the omega was frowning, his palm tightly clutching his phone, his usually calm face currently trying hard to endure something. In contrast, the alpha had her head held high, her features made more striking by her black attire, and a pair of deep, inky eyes held a faint smile.
Looking at this scene, could it be that Shen Zhi had provoked Qin Huai?
Liu Nian thought it was unlikely, but he still urged the owner to hurry, just in case a fight really broke out and he wouldn’t be able to mediate.
There was no fight here, though.
It was just that Shen Zhi had accidentally upset Qin Huai and was currently trying to placate her.
“I’m sorry.”
Qin Huai ignored her and looked down at her phone.
Shen Zhi continued, “I’ve already made it clear to my mom; there won’t be any arranged marriage. Huaihuai, don’t be angry.”
“I’m not angry.” Qin Huai’s eyes never left her phone, her tone stiff. “Whether you have an arranged marriage or not has nothing to do with me. We are only temporarily mutually needed. Also, don’t call me by my nickname anymore.”
“Oh.” Shen Zhi pulled out a stool and sat across from Qin Huai, saying flatly, “So, it’s just a no-strings-attached, ‘bed-mate’ relationship, then.”
Qin Huai was tapping her phone screen, and Shen Zhi’s nonchalant comment almost made her drop it.
“Don’t be sarcastic,” Qin Huai warned.
Shen Zhi let out a cold laugh, her features extremely imposing against the black jacket. “Senior, you’re really being unreasonable. We’re not even dating, so why did you get mad when you heard I had an arranged marriage?”
“I didn’t get mad,” Qin Huai emphasized.
“You did.”
Qin Huai disliked wasting time on such pointless arguments, as they never led to a resolution. She stood up and stepped over the stool. “You eat by yourself. I’m leaving.”
“Senior”
Hearing the voice behind her, Qin Huai paused, her back to Shen Zhi, her eyes fixed straight ahead. “We both need to calm down. Don’t follow me.”
With that, Qin Huai walked out of the cafeteria.
On Monday, Qin Huai woke up early and went to the lab. After changing into her lab coat and putting on goggles, she began her experiment.
Qin Huai was inherently bad at sorting out complicated relationships. Compared to tangled emotions, rational data allowed her brain to be fully immersed. Following her advisor’s suggestions from Saturday, she spent an entire day at the museum and finally unearthed some potentially useful documents in a remote corner.
Half an hour later, other people in the lab arrived one after another and started working.
After everyone had arrived, the advisor pushed the door open, wearing a lab coat, followed by another alpha in a similar coat.
Qin Huai, holding a test tube, heard the sound and glanced over lightly. The alpha was closing the door, her back to the lab bench. Her figure was tall, and even the lab coat couldn’t hide her excellent proportions.
Qin Huai just found the back view very familiar, then was surprised by her own absurd thought and turned back to work.
The advisor stood in the middle of the lab bench, clapping her hands to signal everyone to stop. “Let me introduce you all to the junior who will be studying with you, Shen Zhi.”
Qin Huai was using a dropper to add liquid medicine, and upon hearing the name, she accidentally squeezed a little too hard, adding an extra drop.
An entire morning’s work was wasted.
Qin Huai dropped the dropper and looked towards the advisor’s side, her surprise already passed, her eyes calm.
Compared to her previous attire, the alpha had her hair pulled back, exposing her slender neck. She was also wearing goggles, and her un-made-up face looked a bit plainer, though her dimples were still endearing when she smiled.
“Hello, everyone, I’m Shen Zhi.” After the alpha introduced herself, she glanced at both sides of the lab bench, her eyes finally falling directly on the thin omega in the corner, and added, “Senior Qin Huai and I should be quite familiar with each other.”
Qin Huai: “…”
The lab was full of experienced students, and whatever the quality of their experiments, gossip was never absent.
“I know, you’re the junior sister’s rumored alpha.”
“Senior, you have a love rival!”
“Don’t talk nonsense, we all welcome the junior sister’s addition.”
The loudest voice belonged to a beta wearing glasses. Shen Zhi hadn’t paid much attention until he called her a love rival, which immediately set off alarm bells, causing her to look straight in that direction.
The alpha the beta referred to as “senior” had prominent cheekbones and sharp features. She stood among the crowd, and hearing the teasing, she didn’t seem to mind, simply raising her hand to signal everyone to quiet down.
That alpha seemed to be the most senior among them, possessing great authority. A simple raise of her hand immediately silenced the surroundings.
Shen Zhi watched from a distance. After everyone quieted down, her eyebrow subtly arched, thinking, Interesting.
This is much better than Lin Qiu’s little tricks.
The alpha showed no sign of impatience. Instead, she walked up to Shen Zhi and extended her palm. “Hello, I’m Han Yishuang.”
“Shen Zhi.”
“You can come to me if you have any questions in the future.” The touch of their palms was brief, seemingly just a formality.
Shen Zhi curled her lips, smiling innocently. “Thank you, Senior.”
After the brief exchange, everyone returned to their work. Qin Huai sat on the stool, frowning, and restarted the experiment.
“I’ll take you to meet the senior who will mentor you,” the advisor said, walking towards the table opposite Qin Huai’s.
Shen Zhi glanced at Qin Huai. The omega was simply too heartless, not even willing to give her a small smile. Shen Zhi retracted her gaze and followed the advisor towards the lab bench farthest from Qin Huai.
“This is the senior who will mentor you, Hao Yan,” the advisor introduced, pointing to a baby-faced omega.
Shen Zhi nodded and extended her hand. “Hello, Senior.”
“She is the top student in the major,” the advisor emphasized repeatedly. “You must mentor her well.”
“Don’t worry,” Hao Yan said.
The formalities concluded, and the advisor left with her hands clasped behind her back.
Shen Zhi was about to put on a pair of gloves to help, only to see the baby faced omega immediately drop her pleasant expression after confirming the advisor was gone. She pointed to the sink and said, “Start by washing these.”
The faucet was near the window, next to Qin Huai’s lab bench.
Shen Zhi glanced at the omega diligently conducting her experiment, put on her gloves, and walked over.
There weren’t many lab instruments to clean, but the glass tubes had some stubborn residue that was difficult to wash off.
Shen Zhi turned the faucet to a small stream and rinsed the glass items. The omega next to her seemed completely engrossed, utterly unaware that someone was standing beside her.
Perhaps the experiment reached a stage where something needed to be recorded.
Qin Huai’s eyes were fixed on the test tube, and one hand fumbled in her lab coat pocket. The pocket only contained a tissue, no pen someone must have taken it. Qin Huai pulled out the wrinkled paper, smoothed it on the table, and called out to the omega doing an experiment nearby, “Senior Sister, a pen.”
Whether the senior sister heard her or not was unclear, but Shen Zhi did.
She lifted her stiff neck and looked towards Qin Huai. The spot next to the omega was now empty; that senior sister had gone over to the beta who was teasing earlier.
Shen Zhi felt for a pen in her pocket and handed it over.
Qin Huai’s eyes couldn’t leave the test tube, and her peripheral vision caught a black pen being offered. She only managed a quick “thank you.” It wasn’t until she finished recording that she realized something was off.
The pen was handed over from the wrong position.
The senior sister should have handed the pen from the right, but this pen came from the left.
Qin Huai glanced to the left, and her chest tightened.
The alpha’s eyes, visible through the goggles, were too clear, all her emotions plainly laid out without any hidden meaning. Her lips curved up, and the dimples on her cheeks were perfectly placed.
“What are you doing here?” Qin Huai asked.
Shen Zhi pointed her chin at the sink. Only then did Qin Huai notice that the half-full sink of equipment was now sparkling clean and neatly placed on the lab bench. Qin Huai tugged at the corner of her mouth, tossed the pen onto the table, and asked, “Who told you to do these?”
“The senior who is mentoring me.” Shen Zhi washed the glass apparatus in her hand. Clear water ran off the rubber gloves, and soon the equipment stood dripping on the lab bench.
It wasn’t inherently wrong to ask a new junior to clean lab equipment. After all, she was new and couldn’t immediately handle important tasks, so she had to start with miscellaneous chores. The problem was that this equipment was what Hao Yan had forgotten to wash yesterday, not something that got dirty from a shared experiment.
Shen Zhi finished cleaning the last piece and looked up. Qin Huai’s expression had grown increasingly sour, with a hint of an indescribable sulkiness in her eyes. Shen Zhi immediately spoke tactfully, “It’s fine, consider it training my ability to clean lab equipment. I can even help you clean yours later.”
“Shut up,” Qin Huai spat out the two words, her gaze flat. “Why weren’t you this cooperative yesterday?”
Shen Zhi twitched her lips and whispered, “Because you’re not just anyone.”
“What?”
Shen Zhi raised her voice, “Nothing. You can keep using that pen for now. No need to return it.”
After saying that, Shen Zhi started moving the cleaned lab equipment to Hao Yan’s area, her eyes focused and not the least bit careless.
When the last piece was moved, Shen Zhi stood behind Hao Yan. “Senior, I’ve finished washing.”
Hao Yan, holding the chemical reagents, was not as careful and meticulous as Qin Huai. Her face was stern, and after hearing Shen Zhi speak, she casually poured a little more into the beaker.
“You seemed to be chatting happily with Qin Huai just now?” Hao Yan asked, taking off her gloves.
Shen Zhi frowned. “She just borrowed a pen from me.”
“Oh.” Hao Yan drew out the sound, saying sarcastically, “If you’re going to be a busybody again, you can just go over to her side.”
Even Shen Zhi, despite her naive nature, understood the relationship between the two of them. Her face went cold as she responded, “Understood.”
The entire morning, Shen Zhi followed Hao Yan, her back and legs aching from standing, while Hao Yan sat on the stool, not diligently watching the experiment.
At noon, Shen Zhi thought she could finally find Qin Huai for lunch, and her leg was already moving. However, the lab door was pushed open from the outside.
Lin Qiu stood in the doorway, looking much thinner than a few days ago, her skin pale, with no hint of color in her face.
Everyone involuntarily stopped what they were doing and looked at the door.
Lin Qiu ignored them, looking straight towards the corner. “Huaihuai, can you come out for a moment?”
