The White Moonlight I Chased, the Divorce I Never Expected - Chapter 58
Chi Yi insisted it wasn’t healthy to stay holed up in the hotel, and only managed to coax Wen Ranqing out of bed and to the mall by a mix of sweet talk and subtle coercion.
Today, Wen Ranqing wore a long Bermuda green dress. Her hair was tied up with a wide, soft gray headband in a slightly darker shade. The lipstick she wore—applied by Chi Yi before they left—was a rich, ripe tomato red, making her lips appear vibrant and inviting.
Her pale skin and the light, translucent makeup softened her usual mature charm, giving her a more youthful and intellectual air, an unusual but surprisingly flattering look.
It was always hot in Country X, and in the mall, a long line had formed in front of an ice cream shop. Most of the customers were teenagers or parents holding toddlers, asking which flavor they wanted.
Chi Yi noticed Wen Ranqing’s gaze lingering on the shop and gently pressed her thumb into the soft flesh of Wen’s hand. “Do you want some?”
She had originally brought Wen Ranqing out to shop for clothes. It was just past noon, and a small detour wouldn’t ruin their plans.
Their clasped hands were warm and dry. Although she had walked the crowded CBD many times before, today felt strangely out of place. Wen Ranqing still hadn’t recovered from the flustered sweetness of Chi Yi openly holding her hand.
She rarely ate ice cream. As a child, her weak constitution meant her parents forbade it, and as an adult, it never even crossed her mind—especially since it felt more like a child’s treat. Looking at the line, there wasn’t a single person near her age.
To be craving ice cream like a child… Just the thought made Wen Ranqing’s cheeks warm with embarrassment.
“No, it’s alright,” she said softly, shaking her head.
“Wait here,” Chi Yi replied, having seen right through her. Without asking her to come along, she turned and walked straight toward the shop.
The faint scent of her perfume lingered in the air, but the warmth of her hand was gone.
Wen Ranqing stood there, letting the heat fade from her face.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long to make a cone. Soon, Chi Yi returned, handing her a raspberry-flavored one.
A teenage girl nearby was also enjoying the same flavor. Wen Ranqing looked at Chi Yi with a mix of embarrassment and uncertainty. Chi Yi, however, stood two steps away, not moving any closer, though her presence was steady and reassuring.
Wen Ranqing was always shy and hesitant when she was with Chi Yi. While they were in a foreign country with few people who knew them, she still struggled to relax. Chi Yi never indulged this.
With Chi Yi’s bold and passionate nature, once in love—or even married—she wanted the whole world to know they were together.
That pale, slender hand hung loosely just within reach.
It didn’t take long before Wen Ranqing gently pursed her lips and stepped closer. Her soft fingers curled around Chi Yi’s pinky, giving it a gentle, teasing tug. Her voice was sweet and quiet, “Let’s go, Xiaoyi…”
She wasn’t used to public displays of affection, but compared to Chi Yi, her discomfort was negligible.
Even such a small gesture from Wen Ranqing was enough to delight Chi Yi. Her heart skipped a beat as she laced their fingers together, rubbing Wen’s hand softly as she led her toward the clothing section.
While Chi Yi turned to glance at a nearby store, Wen Ranqing finally dared to sneak a lick of the raspberry jam—tart and sweet, more delicious than she expected. Her cheeks flushed again.
“Would you want to keep a pet someday?”
They had just passed a cat café. The two of them were still learning to adapt to each other’s lifestyles. While Wen Ranqing preferred Chi Yi to take the lead, Chi Yi still wanted to know her thoughts—some animals were gentle and quiet, perfect for a home.
Wen Ranqing’s thick black hair was tied back with the wide headband, revealing the soft pink of her nose and flushed ears. Her plush red lips were slightly parted as she occasionally flicked her tongue out to taste the mix of fruit and cream—soft, seductive, irresistible.
Chi Yi tore her gaze away from the café and looked back at Wen Ranqing, heat in her eyes. Her throat bobbed slightly as she swallowed. “Hm?”
A bit of cream lingered on Wen Ranqing’s upper lip. She stared blankly for a second, lips still parted, then slowly shook her head.
“Is it good?” Chi Yi asked.
Wen Ranqing clearly didn’t like the topic and quickly moved past it. Chi Yi, however, was staring at the ice cream cone in her hand—though her mind was on those tempting lips. They stood on the upward-moving escalator. Before Wen Ranqing could offer the cone to her, Chi Yi leaned down, gripped her wrist, and kissed the corner of her mouth.
Chi Yi’s breath soon pulled away, just as a little Chinese toddler ahead—resting on his mother’s shoulder—turned around and babbled curiously at them. Wen Ranqing’s face flushed bright red in an instant. She angled her body slightly and rested her forehead in the hollow of Chi Yi’s collarbone, her hand trembling faintly as she held the ice cream.
Truth be told, even dressed in a youthful style, Wen Ranqing’s innate elegance and mature charm couldn’t be easily hidden. Her innocent long dress was paired with sleek black stilettos. With her tall, graceful figure leaning softly into Chi Yi’s embrace, she looked like a poised and dignified woman surrendering only to one person.
Though she wore refined makeup and carried an aura that most would find unapproachable, this poised CEO turned into a bashful, delicate girl only in front of Chi Yi—face flushed, tugging on her sleeve, whispering that they were in public and that there were children nearby.
From where she stood, Chi Yi only had to lower her eyes slightly to see the tips of Wen Ranqing’s ears burning red. Her perfume—a sweet and subtly mature scent—lingered between them. Chi Yi chuckled softly. The escalator was only halfway up, and the small toddler ahead, still in the early stages of learning to speak, kept staring at them wide-eyed with fascination.
The girl leaning into her swayed ever so slightly, letting out a few breathy sounds as though she were playfully making faces.
Sensing that Chi Yi was engaged in some silent exchange with the toddler, Wen Ranqing panicked a little and looked up. She was embarrassed because Chi Yi kissed her—not because of the child. The toddler, after all, wouldn’t understand any of it…
“Xiaoyi…” she murmured.
The first thing she saw was Chi Yi’s smile—her two little canine teeth peeking out mischievously. That usually cool, sharp face was now swaying and making silly faces to entertain the baby, a soft stream of giggles floating over from the front.
Wen Ranqing’s heart skipped a beat. Not only had she completely misunderstood what was going on, but the thought that had quietly taken root days ago now surged stronger than ever.
When Chi Yi heard her name, she pulled back from her playful expression and turned to her with soft eyes.
“What is it?”
The mother and child had already moved on ahead. Wen Ranqing kept her arm wrapped around Chi Yi’s, her cheeks still warm. Only when they reached the clothing section did she whisper, “Xiaoyi… do you like babies?”
Her voice was light and gentle. Considering the scene just now, Chi Yi immediately guessed what she was thinking.
“I do,” she answered without hesitation.
If they had a child—she hoped the child would look like Wen Ranqing, with a personality more like hers, so they wouldn’t be easily bullied.
A tiny version of Wen Ranqing—with peach blossom eyes and soft, chubby cheeks, a sweet little girl—just imagining it made Chi Yi feel she would never want to let her go.
From the moment of an Alpha-Omega permanent bond, every marking thereafter, no matter how shallow or deep, carried the potential for pregnancy—including the first time they were permanently bonded.
Wen Ranqing’s eyes shimmered with a smile. She had no interest in the clothes around them anymore, practically clinging to Chi Yi’s side. “Then we…”
“Let’s not talk about this for now, alright?”
Though she was holding the softness of Wen Ranqing’s body in her arms, Chi Yi’s tone was unexpectedly firm. Even her brows drew together slightly as she looked at a long lace gown in ivory on display. It was a rare moment of refusal.
Chi Yi had only just graduated from university, still just 23 years old—much younger than Wen Ranqing. Wen had her own concerns: a child might be too heavy a burden for someone in the prime of her youth. But Chi Yi had said “for now,” which meant… maybe, someday.
Wen Ranqing held onto Chi Yi’s arm and quickly gathered her emotions, but she still couldn’t bring herself to focus on the clothes around them.
“Do you like it?” Chi Yi looked up and was met with the sight of a little fox with drooping brows and a slightly pouty expression. Her red lips were pressed into a tight line—clearly still feeling down about the earlier conversation.
That dress would’ve already fit Wen Ranqing. Chi Yi turned and asked the sales assistant to fetch another size. As soon as the assistant left, she pulled Wen Ranqing into the fitting room and locked the door with a click.
The fitting room was soundproofed on three sides, making it the perfect place for a private conversation.
Chi Yi wasn’t being inappropriate—she had no intention of doing anything here. Even abroad, she would never allow Wen Ranqing to risk being caught in a compromising position by the media.
Under the bright, harsh lighting of the fitting room, with Chi Yi’s arms wrapped around her waist, the atmosphere naturally took on a tinge of intimacy.
Wen Ranqing couldn’t guess what Chi Yi was thinking. When she looked up and met those clear, focused eyes, she panicked slightly—her little secret exposed in the closeness of the confined space. Her breathing quickened.
She whispered helplessly, “Xiaoyi…”
Chi Yi’s fingers unconsciously played with the lace bow on the back of her dress, fingertips toying with the soft fabric. Her warm breath brushed against Wen Ranqing’s already flushed ear. “You want a baby that badly?”
Chi Yi wasn’t the possessive Alpha stereotype. If her partner wanted a child, that was fine. If she didn’t, they could still grow old together happily. The fact that their identities as Alpha and Omega allowed two women to love each other without as much resistance already made Chi Yi feel incredibly fortunate.
But hearing those words come from someone she had loved and longed for all these years—how could she not be moved?
Her voice, so close to Wen Ranqing’s ear, was clear and slightly husky, tinged with teasing heat. The ends of her soft curls brushed against Wen’s neck and shoulders, causing a ticklish, tingling sensation.
On the wall behind Wen Ranqing was a mirror. One glance upward, and she could see Chi Yi nestled into her shoulder—seductive and affectionate.
Being asked something like that by her Alpha carried an entirely different kind of meaning.
A wave of embarrassment surged up from her toes, spreading warmth up her neck. Still, she didn’t want to miss the chance to talk about it. Clutching the hem of her dress, she softly replied, “Mm.”
“Xiaoyi, why don’t you…”
“You didn’t want to get a pet either, remember?” Chi Yi loosened the lace bow a little and then casually began to retie it. Her voice was calm, but her gaze lingered on Wen Ranqing’s waist and hips, gradually growing warmer.
Only after asking about the cat café had, she realized it—Wen Ranqing was sulking in that quiet, repressed way of hers. And the outfit she wore today clearly wasn’t random; there was thought behind it.
The sash was tied a bit tighter than before, accentuating her curves. Wen Ranqing blushed but said nothing.
Chi Yi was smart—none of her little feelings or moods ever went unnoticed.
In the small, enclosed space, neither of them spoke for a moment. The faint mingling of their perfumes created a charged, ambiguous atmosphere.
Eventually, Chi Yi let out a soft sigh. She couldn’t help herself and pulled Wen Ranqing close, kissing the curve of her ear.
Wen Ranqing blushed furiously, shrinking into Chi Yi’s arms, her shoulders hunched. Just from being kissed, her neck was already flushed pink.
“If we had a baby now… I’d probably get jealous too.”
