- Chapter 2 - Fox Tails Are Meant for Playing
He wanted to help Shizun recover his original form, but the prerequisite was that Shizun had to calmly recuperate. Very well, then he at least had time to prepare properly.
When Shi An returned to the secret chamber with the meal and walked over to the jade bed, what he saw was that Shizun had already recovered a fraction of his strength. His fur was no longer dim, but instead gleamed with a moist, sparkling brilliance.
Though his eyes could not see and his gaze remained hollow, one of his nine tails was invariably clutched tightly in his arms and being toyed with by himself. This sight brought a reluctant smile to Shi An’s lips.
Hearing the commotion, Immortal Lord Yunzhou unostentatiously put down his fluffy tail, transforming back into an aloof and elegant nine-tailed white fox.
Seeing this, Shi An could not help but smile, yet to spare Shizun any embarrassment, he forcibly swallowed back the laughter bubbling up in his throat.
He said softly, “Shizun, let us dine together. Once Shizun recovers his human form, we can ‘discuss’ further methods for restoring Shizun’s cultivation.”
At this, Yunzhou widened his eyes in astonishment. As he was recovering from his injuries, Shi An should naturally know what needed to be done; why would there still be a need to discuss it with him? It certainly wasn’t out of fear that he would cause himself pain, yet an inexplicable, nameless sense of guilt washed over him.
This meal ultimately concluded amidst a haze of doubt and apprehension.
Over the next few days, Shi An frequently stood guard by the bed, terrified that anything might be lacking.
And his Shizun, with the return of his strength, had retrieved his usual unreliable disposition. Even in his nine-tailed white fox form, it did not prevent Shizun from acting just as he always did.
The pearls shone brightly and the dark green jade gleamed quietly, making the fluffy white fox appear all the more sacred and divine. His tails were either draped or relaxed, sometimes clutched under his paws, his ears drooping slightly as he slept soundly and sweetly.
This scene caused Shi An, who had just stepped through the door, to stare fixedly. When he had first taken him as his master, he had heard that Immortal Lord Yunzhou’s true form was a nine-tailed white fox. Later, as romantic feelings quietly blossomed between them and were reciprocated, he became even more enchanted by these fluffy fox tails.
Moreover, as a dragon, this inherent sense of possessiveness made him want to hide away this Shizun of his whose true form was so breathtakingly gorgeous just like this, so that only he could look upon him.
Stepping up to the bed, he slowly crouched down, his fingers instinctively brushing against that pair of fox ears, relishing the warmth and the way the soft fur wrapped around his hand.
He stroked the ears in a steady rhythm. Unconsciously, Yunzhou leaned toward the source of the hand, craving more soothing comfort. Seeing Shizun half-asleep and dazed, a surge of mischief arose in Shi An, and he wondered just how far he could push his teasing.
He pinched the tips of those ears between two fingers and lifted them slightly, watching the tips glow a faint, pale pink against the halo of light. The white fox beneath his hand shifted uncomfortably, though he remained hazy and still fast asleep.
Shi An grew all the more daring. Supporting the white fox’s jaw with one hand while using the other to trace the smooth fox fur, he slid all the way down from the spine, grabbed a tail, and brushed it against the white fox’s nose to give it a tickle. A drowsy and annoyed Yunzhou tried to tilt his head away to shake off these exasperating hands.
Alas, he was unsuccessful. Those hands only grew more outrageous: the hand that had been teasing the fluff on his jaw gradually drifted downward to toy with the silver bells, while the fingers of his other hand lightly scratched the tip of his nose.
Utterly annoyed by the clinking of the bells and finding those hands altogether too mischievous and although his vision was a sea of gray, he could still sense where those hands were located Yunzhou tilted his head and, without a moment’s hesitation, clamped his teeth cleanly around a fingertip.
Unfortunately, Shi An was simply too thick-skinned and seemed utterly incapable of feeling pain. Instead, feeling his fingertip enclosed, he began to stir it around.
Yunzhou wanted to spit out this obnoxious finger, but the other party refused to cooperate. After teasing him a bit longer, right as his Shizun began to bristle with anger and put up a fierce resistance, Shi An finally prepared to withdraw his finger.
Sensing that the malicious dragon had finally stopped playing, Immortal Lord Yunzhou decisively gave that fingertip one last, swift bite before sharply turning his head away to avoid any further torment.
An “Ouch!” echoed through every corner of the room.
Really, serves him right.
