- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 11 - Bringing Someone to See Big Brother!
“Colonel, that is your sister-in-law.”
“We are divorced.”
It turned out that the divorce which had caused such a stir previously was not just a rumor.
Luke shut his mouth decisively and sold out his teammate instead. He shoved Fry toward Fang Xu’s side. Fry staggered to a steady halt and whispered, “Colonel, does your brother know about this?”
“He knows about half of it.” As the three reached the bottom of the stairs, an inconspicuous car pulled up. Fry reached out to open the car door, letting Fang Xu get in first before he and Luke followed. As soon as they were seated, Fang Xu said, “Big Brother knows that Feng Ge is staying with me.”
Louis was not as loyal to Fang Yang as he appeared on the surface; he frequently leaked information to Fang Xu. Fang Yang knowing about this was entirely within Fang Xu’s expectations.
However, he only knew that the person was with him and nothing else. As for when his older brother’s wife became his younger brother’s wife, he knew even less.
Fry and Luke exchanged a look, understanding the situation. With their mission imminent, they had no time to overthink. Before the car started, Fang Xu glanced up at the building and happened to see the curtain by his window being lowered.
The Alpha froze for a moment. Taking advantage of the fact that he had not handed in his terminal yet, he sent a message to Bai Yifeng.
Upstairs, Bai Yifeng was still feeling bewildered by his own actions. Why did he suddenly want to see Fang Xu’s silhouette? The Beta scratched his cheek while looking at the curtain tassels still swaying at his feet. The fluttering in his heart would not subside. Just then, his terminal rang. Startled, he remembered to check the message.
“Feng Ge, do I look good?”
Bai Yifeng was stunned. Had Fang Xu actually seen his little movement? He frowned and thought for a long time, eventually deciding to ignore the message. However, as soon as he closed the terminal, he remembered that once Fang Xu handed it in for the mission, they would be unable to communicate for nearly fifteen days. Suddenly feeling that Fang Xu was quite pitiful, he hesitantly sent a reply.
After sending it, he realized he could not retract it. Bai Yifeng sat back on the sofa and watched the house, which had been lively not long ago due to Fang Xu packing his gear, become quiet and lonely. Bai Yifeng sighed. If he could not retract it, then so be it. Praising Fang Xu once was not a big deal.
The mark Fang Xu had left on his nape brought peace to his heart, but it also made him unconsciously recall everything related to the Alpha. Bai Yifeng shook his head. This would not do. He could not become a “rice worm” who relied entirely on Fang Xu; he had to stand on his own feet.
“Find a job.”
Bai Yifeng put this on his agenda. However, in this world, he only knew Fang Xu and Louis. Fang Yang and Ye Lang did not count, as he would have nothing to do with them anymore.
Fang Xu was on a mission, and Louis currently seemed loyal to Fang Xu. So, should he ask Louis for help?
Bai Yifeng fell into deep thought. He was ready to embrace a new life, yet he remained unsure of what kind of future awaited him. But whenever he thought of Fang Xu, he felt there was no need to worry.
Was it the influence of the pheromones?
He wondered, but the answer was already in his heart. He was a person who followed his heart. The influence of pheromones only affected his physiological level at most; he could still distinguish between emotional dependence on an Alpha and his feelings for Fang Xu.
Bai Yifeng exhaled deeply and sent a message to Louis. The other replied quickly, stating he would keep the matter in mind and asking Bai Yifeng not to worry too much. At the end, as always, he added the phrase: “Please be careful in everything.”
Fang Yang.
Bai Yifeng sat up slightly. Not only Louis, but Fang Xu had also warned him to be careful of Fang Yang. That Alpha was a total madman and a pervert.
If he ran into Fang Yang, what exactly would that man do?
Bai Yifeng did not know and did not want to know. Thinking of Fang Yang gave him a headache. He had received his divorce settlement a few days ago. It did not go through the Fang family channels at all but was transferred directly from the relevant authorities. Now, his account finally had a spectacular amount of savings. Just as he had expected, Fang Yang valued his reputation; even after a divorce, he would not skimp on the compensation.
He did not know the exchange rate between the Star Credits here and the money he used to know, but the countless zeros certainly made him feel much more secure.
In his past life, he had worked his entire life and never managed to get this much money. Having crossed over once, he had to experience what it felt like to be a rich person, right?
Bai Yifeng stretched, and his waist let out a loud crack.
Bai Yifeng: “…”
That little rascal Fang Xu.
Supporting his waist, he stood up and walked toward the kitchen. Over this period, he had gained a certain understanding of the various living appliances. Although he was not yet skilled with everything in the kitchen, he could at least cook a meal for himself, limited, of course, to just filling his stomach.
This was only possible because Fang Xu had prepared all the raw ingredients. That way, he only needed to pick what he wanted to eat and cook it.
Unconsciously, everything around him had become stained with Fang Xu’s name. He was even wearing Fang Xu’s clothes; though they were a bit large, they were very comfortable. Sometimes he could spend an entire day wearing just one oversized top. Additionally, since the clothes carried Fang Xu’s scent, his entire being was soaked in the aura named “Fang Xu.”
By the time he snapped back to his senses, Bai Yifeng was already sitting on the sofa with his prepared meal. Regarding this realization, he raised an eyebrow. Even if his whole self became Fang Xu’s, so what?
Given the current situation, he was quite satisfied with Fang Xu.
Humans, as social animals, always need to find a partner.
Time passed day by day. It had been eight or nine days since Fang Xu left. During these days, Bai Yifeng finished the games Fang Xu had left behind and read through nearly a year’s worth of news to catch up on this world. He had finally become completely free.
The first feeling of being idle was that the temporary mark Fang Xu left was no longer very effective; it was not even as potent as the Alpha’s pheromones lingering in the room.
Louis had not given him any further reply. Bai Yifeng was unsure of the situation outside. He knew deeply that he could not stay in this “safe house” forever. Just as he decided to risk going out for a stroll today, his terminal beeped. Fang Xu seemed to have sent something, but it would not load. Bai Yifeng thought he might have finished the mission early and tried calling him.
No one answered.
Bai Yifeng hung up suspiciously and decided to call again later. He put on his coat, took a deep breath, and pushed open the door.
The air outside was decent. It was roughly the beginning of October, slightly chilly. He had managed to find a set of clothes at home that was not too large: a cream-white cotton top, dark casual pants, and a coat that Fang Xu rarely wore.
After ensuring his outfit was fine, Bai Yifeng carefully locked the door, put away the key, and found the elevator according to his memory. The last two times he had come and gone, his consciousness had been somewhat blurred. This was the first time he saw the internal structure of the elevator clearly.
To be honest, it was a bit too high-tech.
Bai Yifeng’s legs felt a bit weak. Looking at the transparent light layers around him, it could certainly be called a sightseeing elevator. However, the various starships flying in an orderly fashion across the sky, separated by a layer of light, nearly made his eyes wander.
The last time Louis had taken him out of the Fang family ancestral home, he had only looked at his surroundings and forgotten to look overhead. Only now did he realize that this place could actually use gas-fuel energy to make such massive starships fly into the sky.
He watched those behemoths with fascination and novelty until a ding sounded, and he realized he had reached the first floor. The Beta tightened his coat and took his first step out.
Then he decisively shrank back to the elevator door.
Although there were not many people outside, as soon as he stepped out, many people stared at him. It was not surveillance, but rather curious scrutiny.
Bai Yifeng looked down at his clothes but found no issues. He turned back to check his face in the elevator’s reflection but saw nothing there either.
Was it because of the scent on him?
Bai Yifeng resisted the urge to frown. Ignoring the gazes, he walked out of the main gate.
Fortunately, the rest of his exploration of the “New World” went smoothly, provided he ignored the eyes of those around him. Bai Yifeng spent some money to buy two sets of clothes that were reasonably fitting and not too expensive, along with some convenience food, before slowly heading back.
It was now after five in the evening. The sunset on the horizon was still eye-catching; even Bai Yifeng could not help but stop to take a couple of photos. After thinking about it, he sent them to Fang Xu. At the same moment he pressed the send button, Louis called. He had no choice but to answer.
A floating screen popped up. Bai Yifeng was startled; he clearly had not expected Louis to make a video call.
The man on the other side was still in his proper butler attire. The scratches on his face from Ye Lang’s nails had healed, and his monocle was securely in place.
“Good evening, Mr. Bai.” Louis caught a glimpse of the mall logo in the background behind him and said solemnly, “I hope I am not interrupting your leisure time.”
“Just speak plainly, Louis.” Bai Yifeng curled his lips. “I am in a hurry to get home and cook.”
Louis seemed quite relieved by his relaxed manner, a rare emotion other than indifference appearing in his eyes. A large screen at a nearby mall was broadcasting real-time news. Bai Yifeng glanced at it but did not take it to heart as he heard Louis say, “I have selected several light jobs for Mr. Bai to serve as your first step in adapting. I have sent them to your email.”
“It is reported that Fang Xu, Captain of the Defense Squad of the Unified Guard, attended a press conference this afternoon. He gave instructions regarding Elsen and the surrounding stations. Observers noted that Colonel Fang’s elder brother, Fang Yang, was also present. Fang Yang expressed great distress over his brother’s injuries.”
Bai Yifeng’s ears caught a few keywords. He looked up in shock at a certain long-haired Alpha standing and speaking on the mall’s large screen. Louis also noticed something was wrong: “Mr. Fang?”
On the large screen, Fang Xu had obvious new injuries on his face and below his ear. Bai Yifeng was very certain that he had no injuries at all before going on the mission. Not only that, the Alpha’s shoulder also revealed parts of a wrapped bandage; he seemed to be seriously injured.
The Beta’s heart twitched. His lips moved slightly, and under Louis’s puzzled gaze, he nearly dropped the bags in his hands. “Louis, I want a job in the military. Can you help me?”
On the other side, Fang Xu took off his suit jacket, threw it aside, and sat on a bench in the backstage lounge. Someone sat down beside him. It was Fang Yang.
“The Old Master’s birthday banquet is the day after tomorrow. Will you be alright?” Fang Yang checked his brother’s injuries with concern. Fang Xu waved his hand dismissively. “Do not worry, these are just minor injuries. I have long been used to it. By the way, Brother, on the day of Grandpa’s birthday banquet, I want to bring someone to meet you.”
“What? Xiao Xu also has someone he wants to bring to see Big Brother?” Fang Yang smiled, a rare sight, beside his brother. Fang Xu nodded, an unreadable emotion flashing deep in his eyes before quickly vanishing. “Big Brother will support me, right?”
“Of course, as long as it is someone you like.”
“Then I will hold you to that. Big Brother must be a man of his word.”
