The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 50
The next day was the weekend. After some thought, Lin Qile decided to take the puppy to Lin Xinrou’s place.
She had been inconsiderate. She had wanted to use the puppy to make up for Rong Jing’s childhood, but she had forgotten two things: both of them had jobs and no time to take care of a child, and Rong Jing was pregnant, keeping a dog now would be inconvenient.
When Rong Jing heard what she said, she lowered her head to glance at the little thing gnawing at her slipper. She gently lifted her foot, and the puppy, thinking its owner was playing with it, wagged its tail even more excitedly.
“You actually like this puppy quite a bit, don’t you?”
Lin Qile leaned closer to Rong Jing and asked with a smile.
Rong Jing immediately put on an indifferent expression. “One stupid creature around me is enough.”
With a haughty turn, she walked toward the bedroom.
Lin Qile crouched beside the puppy, watching as it continued wagging its tail happily. She poked it lightly. “You’re still wagging your tail even after being called stupid. You really are dumb.”
Suddenly, realization dawned on her. She turned her head and shouted toward the bedroom in protest, “Rong Jing! You were scolding me by implication! How am I stupid?!”
In the bedroom, the person changing clothes was in a rather good mood.
After breakfast, Lin Qile placed the puppy in its carrier, ready to take it back to the Lin family home.
As soon as she got into the car, Rong Jing took the passenger seat.
?
What was she doing?
As if sensing the confusion in her eyes, Rong Jing fastened her seatbelt and said simply, “Let’s go.”
“You’re coming to my house?”
Rong Jing glanced at her, narrowing her eyes slightly. “You don’t want me to go?”
“Of course not! If you’re willing to come, I’d be thrilled.”
She was more than happy to spend more time with Rong Jing. Building a relationship required time together, but whenever they were together, it was either in bed or dealing with various family matters neither of which she excelled at. It was hard for Rong Jing to see her good qualities.
Previously, she had always followed Rong Jing’s lead. Now, she wanted Rong Jing to get to know the real her.
“Aren’t you going to drive?”
“Let’s go.”
Gripping the steering wheel, she started the car, secretly smiling to herself.
They drove back to the Lin residence.
She explained the situation with the puppy to Lin Xinrou, who happily picked it up. “No problem! What an adorable little dog. Lele, Mom will take good care of it… What’s its name?”
“Uh, it doesn’t have one yet. You can name it.”
Lin Xinrou played with the puppy for a while before saying, “Then let’s call it Qiqi.”
Lin Qile’s temple twitched.
“What did you say?”
On the sofa, Rong Jing’s lips curled upward, her amusement barely contained.
“Qiqi. Does Lele like this name?” Lin Xinrou asked innocently.
That wasn’t the issue! Her name was Lin Qile, with the nickname Lele. Now her mom wanted to name a puppy Qiqi!
Qiqi and Lele.
She had just given one of the characters from her own name to a dog!
Qiqi came before Lele?!
She had just been one-upped by a puppy.
Rong Jing suddenly spoke up. “I think it’s a great name.”
Lin Qile stared at her in disbelief.
Rong Jing shot her a glance, her expression screaming, I’m just stirring the pot for fun, the bigger the mess, the better!
“Xiao Jing likes it too, so Qiqi it is! Let’s have lunch together later. I’ll go settle Qiqi in first.”
Once Lin Xinrou left, Lin Qile immediately plopped down beside Rong Jing.
“Why did you egg my mom on like that?!”
Rong Jing parted her red lips slightly and lazily tossed out two words: “Serves you right.”
“!!!”
Rong Jing lifted her chin, “Dare to laugh at me again?”
She quickly shook her head.
Rong Jing released her and leisurely stood up.
Watching Rong Jing leave, she couldn’t help but clench her fists and swing them in the air a couple of times. “Such a vindictive woman!”
After lunch.
Rong Jing went to take a phone call, while Lin Xinrou pulled her daughter aside and whispered, “So, have you two made up now?”
“Not yet.”
“You have a baby together, and you still haven’t reconciled? Lele, do you have other ideas? You have to promise me, you absolutely cannot follow in Qisong’s footsteps and be that irresponsible!”
The corner of her mouth twitched. Follow Qisong?
“Mom, I won’t. I swear I’d never!”
“Then why aren’t you remarrying?”
She rubbed her forehead helplessly. “It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just—”
“Mom.”
Rong Jing suddenly appeared behind them. “I need to head back to the office.”
“Of course, of course. Let Lele take you. You’re not in your usual condition now, you need to take good care of yourself.” Lin Xinrou then turned to her daughter. “Your top priority right now is looking after Xiaojing. She’s pregnant, and as the months go by, her body will only get more uncomfortable.”
Lin Xinrou pulled out a notebook.
“This is a record I kept during my pregnancy, along with the supplements I took. Lele, take it home and use it as a reference. Make sure Xiaojing gets proper nutrition, no staying up late, no overexertion, and most importantly, keep her in a happy mood. You…”
Lin Xinrou went on, meticulously instructing her daughter while Lin Qile nodded earnestly.
Standing to the side, Rong Jing watched as the mother and daughter discussed how to care for her. A warmth slowly spread in her chest.
Since her pregnancy was announced, her own mother had shown concern, but she had no idea how to care for a pregnant woman. As for her birth mother, she hadn’t even called once.
It was as if this daughter meant nothing to her.
“Let’s go.”
Lin Qile carried several bags and tucked the notebook under her arm, walking past her.
Once they got in the car, Lin Xinrou hurried over again, leaning against the door. “Xiaojing, when’s your next prenatal checkup? Have Lele take a photo of the baby’s ultrasound. I’d love to see it.”
Lin Qile’s eyes lit up. She actually wanted to accompany Rong Jing to the checkup too, but ever since learning about the pregnancy, she hadn’t even seen Rong Jing’s medical records, let alone any test results.
She felt like a mother with some involvement but not much.
Mainly because the baby’s mother was too independent so independent that she didn’t seem to need her at all.
“Alright.”
With Rong Jing’s agreement, Lin Xinrou straightened up and waved cheerfully as the car drove off.
As they left the Lin family villa, Lin Qile focused on driving while trying to find the right words, occasionally stealing glances at Rong Jing.
Rong Jing lowered her head to reply to messages on her phone. When she looked up, she caught the other woman peeking. “Keep your eyes on the road.”
“Can I come with you to your next prenatal checkup?”
Rong Jing put away her phone and studied her, a hint of displeasure in her gaze. “Are you trying to shirk your responsibility?”
“Of course not!”
She hurried to explain, “I just thought you might not want me there.”
“Don’t worry. From now on, even if you don’t want to go, you’ll have to. I was wrong before letting you off so easily.”
She thought about how she had endured morning sickness alone, gone to checkups in secret, and even sought therapy when her emotions spiraled, all while this fool remained oblivious, spending time with that omega who admired her, seeing each other day in and day out.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
She propped her head up and turned to look out the window.
Lin Qile didn’t know what she had done wrong this time. Remembering her mother’s advice, she could only keep quiet and drive carefully.
When they arrived at the company, she spoke up, “We’re here.”
“Come upstairs with me.”
“Huh?”
Rong Jing sneered, “I’m the one suffering through the pains of pregnancy, I’m the one bearing the hardships of running the company, while you have it easy, just driving me to and from work counts as your contribution.”
Lin Qile: “…”
What had she said wrong this time?
Why had she upset this high-maintenance lady again?
“Come upstairs with me.”
“Yes.”
Back in the office, Chen Nan and the others had already prepared the materials.
Rong Jing asked, “Where’s the error in the data?”
“President Rong, we’re still checking. We have to resend it by 10 p.m., or the project is finished.”
Lin Qile watched as everyone worked urgently yet methodically, some checking data, others making revisions, and some even dismantling bindings.
Rong Jing suddenly spoke up, “Don’t just stand there. I brought you here to help. You’ve worked with Chen Nan before go assist her with the data check.”
“Okay.”
She nodded without hesitation and walked over to Chen Nan. “Sister Chen, what can I do to help?”
“Xiao Lin, let’s go check the data.”
“Alright.”
As Lin Qile also got busy, Rong Jing watched her bustling back and forth, and suddenly, her mood improved.
By 9 p.m., the team had recompiled the project data and handed it to Rong Jing.
Seeing everyone in the meeting, Lin Qile knew she wouldn’t understand the discussion, so she quietly slipped out of the conference room.
“This will do.”
With the boss’s approval, everyone who had worked overtime for most of the day finally relaxed. They filed out of the conference room, ready to head home.
“Where’s Lin Qile?”
Rong Jing frowned as she scanned the crowd leaving the room and asked Chen Nan.
“Ah, she seemed to leave during the meeting.”
Rong Jing pressed her lips together in displeasure. “Got it. You’ve worked hard, go home now.”
“Yes, President Rong.”
Once everyone had left the conference room, Rong Jing irritably pulled out her phone. “Daring to run off when I’m this busy Lin Qile, you’re asking for trouble!”
The call connected, but the ringing came from inside the conference room.
She strode out and saw Lin Qile carrying several food containers, distributing them to the team. “You’ve all worked hard, staying so late on a Saturday. Have some supper before heading home.”
After handing out the food, she walked over with a familiar container.
“Hungry?”
Rong Jing’s expression shifted slightly. “This container… isn’t it from the restaurant near our neighborhood?”
“Yeah. Come on, let’s go to the office. Eat something before we head home. My mom said we can’t let you go hungry.”
She ushered Rong Jing into the office.
Opening the container, she said, “There’s a lot you can’t eat, so I had to order from the place near our home. But they were about to close, I had to order extra, and they only agreed to make and deliver it because I paid extra.”
Rong Jing looked at the food inside all her favorites and the frustration and irritation in her heart instantly melted away.
“Have some.”
Lin Qile handed her chopsticks. “I’ll tidy up your desk. Eat up, and once you’re done, we’ll go home.”
With that, she walked over to the desk and started organizing.
Rong Jing glanced down at the food, then back up at Lin Qile’s busy figure.
A few seconds later, she lowered her head and began eating, her mood noticeably lighter.
After their late-night snack, Lin Qile drove Rong Jing home.
“Prenatal checkup tomorrow.”
As she drove, the person beside her suddenly spoke. It took her a moment to process the words, and after a few seconds, she asked uncertainly, “Prenatal checkup tomorrow?”
“Yeah. Bring your documents, we’re setting up the medical file tomorrow.”
She was stunned. “You haven’t even set up a file yet?!”
Once a pregnant woman is confirmed to be expecting and decides to keep the baby, setting up a medical file is a must. Every prenatal checkup is recorded in it. One of the reasons she had never doubted Rong Jing’s pregnancy was that she’d never seen her file anything at the hospital.
Rong Jing shot her a glare. “Do you really think someone like me could set up a file at the hospital without nosy people finding out?”
“Well, that’s true. But!” She suddenly stopped the car and leaned toward Rong Jing excitedly. “You’re asking me to bring my documents… does that mean… does that mean…”
She suddenly felt shy, fidgeting awkwardly as her ears turned red.
Rong Jing watched her with amusement. “Mean what?”
“That you want to remarry me!”
Her eyes sparkled, brimming with hope.
Rong Jing extended a slender finger, pressed it against her forehead, and pushed her away.
“You’re overthinking it!”
“???”
Rong Jing looked at her with a faint smirk. “Having the mother’s information in the medical file will save me a lot of trouble.”
Her expression froze.
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
Five seconds later, she asked stiffly, “That’s all?”
“What else?”
She lowered her head in frustration, gripping the steering wheel tightly. Knowing that Rong Jing just saw her as a convenient tool was downright infuriating!
“Drive.”
Grumbling, she started the car and headed home.
