The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 29
A week in the marketing department felt like pure hell for Lin Qile.
Every day, she had to face incomprehensible documents, contracts, and materials. And at night, she had to swallow her pride and beg her “master” for help just to survive.
After barely making it through the week, she felt like she had shed a layer of skin.
No way!
Fighting alone was unbearable.
Lin Xinrou was the legal representative of the company, the real boss!
She had to drag Lin Xinrou back into the company.
Otherwise, she was afraid she’d collapse from exhaustion before she could even steal the protagonist’s halo and become the new lead.
On Saturday, she lured Lin Xinrou out under the pretense of getting a beauty treatment.
The mother-daughter pair lay side by side on the spa beds.
“Sweetheart, your mother told me you’ve been training in the marketing department this week. How was it? Just looking at you now, I think you’ve lost weight and gotten darker. If it’s too hard, just quit. Mom doesn’t want you to suffer like this.”
“Mom, I’m not tired. Actually, I find it quite interesting. Working women have this special charm just look at Rong Jing. You have no idea how many people idolize her and see her as their role model.”
Lin Xinrou missed the subtext, assuming her daughter was simply praising her beloved. She chimed in, “Rong Jing really is exceptional. It’s rare for an omega to hold such an important position in the workplace. Your grandfather used to say that the Rong family’s little girl would achieve great things one day. He even envied that she was someone else’s child. But now, she’s our Lin family’s daughter-in-law! Sweetheart, you’re so charming.”
“Uh…”
That wasn’t the point!
“But Mom, you’re the chairman of Lin Corporation! You’re even more impressive than Rong Jing, this company is yours!”
“Well, it belongs to all three of us.”
Lin Qile forced a bitter smile. Why was her naive mother so dense? Fine, time for drastic measures!
“Mom, this week at the company, I noticed a lot of omegas coming to talk to Mother. She even had lunch with them! Aren’t you jealous?”
“Why would I be? Your mother isn’t that kind of person!”
Lin Qile: “…”
Lin Xinrou smiled. “I trust A-Song completely. I used to work too, you know. When you’re in the office, you inevitably have to interact with all kinds of partners. If you avoided everyone just to prevent gossip, how would you ever do business? Back then, I even drank with alphas to close deals!”
“Wow, really? Did you win?”
“Of course! I went in determined to win. But right after signing the contract, I ended up in the hospital. Your mother stayed by my side all night. Sweetheart, she’s truly such a gentle soul.”
Lin Qile really didn’t want to hear her mom gush about Qi Song anymore, so she quickly changed the subject. “Then why don’t you go back to work at the company? Even if you and Mother are deeply in love, what if, after a long time, she comes home stressed about work and wants to talk to you about it? What would you do?”
“Well…”
Lin Xinrou’s tone noticeably wavered.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Qile pressed on. “Times have changed. Strong, independent omegas especially the gorgeous, confident ones are all the rage now. Not that there’s anything wrong with how you are now, but think about it: you’ve waited decades for Mother. What if the roles were reversed?”
“Reversed how?”
“You go out to negotiate deals, make money, and when you come home from work, your mother is waiting for you. Hearing about your achievements today, she’d definitely think you’re amazing.”
“Hmm… that does sound nice.”
Lin Xinrou, being simple-minded, couldn’t contain her excitement at the thought of one day seeing Asong look at her with admiration.
“I… I’ll go check out the company!”
Lin Qile quickly sat up. “Great! We mother and daughter are going to conquer the business world!”
“Mhm!”
That evening.
When Qi Song returned home, Lin Xinrou told her about wanting to go back to work at the company.
After hearing this, Qi Song froze in place for a long moment before finally turning back to ask, “Why do you suddenly want to go back to work?”
“I just want to spend more time with you.”
Qi Song affectionately tapped her nose. “Who was it that couldn’t even get up after just three days of sending me to work in the morning?”
“I just can’t wake up early, okay?”
“And you still want to work? If you go to work, you’ll have to wake up at seven every morning, five days a week. Rain or snow, you can’t back out. Plus, there’s overtime at night. Do you really think you can handle that?”
Lin Xinrou hesitated, then shook her head.
“So, still want to go to work?”
She nestled into her lover’s arms and mumbled, “I’ll think about it some more.”
Seeing that Lin Xinrou wasn’t giving up the idea but merely reconsidering, Qi Song lowered her head, her eyes devoid of any affection, leaving only coldness.
“Take your time thinking, then. I’m going to take a shower first.”
Pushing Lin Xinrou away, she turned and went upstairs.
Watching her lover leave, Lin Xinrou took out her phone and called her daughter.
“Hello?”
“Sweetheart, Rong Jing?”
“It’s me. Hold on, I’ll get Qile for you.”
“Okay.”
Rong Jing carried the phone to the study, where she found someone dozing off in front of a computer screen playing a marketing lecture. She shook her head helplessly.
She nudged the person awake.
“Huh? What’s up?”
“Your mom’s on the phone.”
Handing the phone to Lin Qile, Rong Jing left the study, closing the door behind her.
“Mom?”
“Sweetheart… I don’t want to go back to the company anymore.”
This statement jolted Lin Qile awake. “Wh-what? Why? Did Mom forbid you?”
“No, Asong is just looking out for me. I really can’t wake up early, and there’s overtime. Plus, I hate going out in the rain the most.”
“Mom, listen to me!”
She interrupted Lin Xinrou. “Only incompetent bosses demand overtime. You’re the boss, if you don’t want overtime, just don’t do it! As for waking up early, treat it as exercise. If you don’t exercise properly, you’ll get wrinkles. Look at Mom, she exercises early every day. If you don’t keep up, in a decade or so, her skin will still be firm and elastic while yours will be saggy and wrinkly.”
“Ahhh, stop it! I can definitely wake up early! I’m going back to work, no matter what!”
With that, she hung up.
Clutching the phone, Lin Qile let out a long sigh, hoping there wouldn’t be any more setbacks this time.
Ugh! Turning two lazy slackers into career women is just too against human nature!
Glancing at the marketing lecture on the screen, her head began to throb faintly, it was even more sleep-inducing than clinical medical reports.
Getting up, Lin Qile left the study.
Rong Jing wasn’t in the living room. She checked the bedroom, no one there either.
The bathroom light was on.
Entering the bathroom, she found Rong Jing soaking in the bathtub, comfortably asleep.
“Here I am, suffering, while you’re living the good life.”
Walking over, the shimmering jade-like body beneath the rippling water seemed to possess a magical allure, stirring her pheromones into chaos. She wanted to turn and leave.
But…
Her body simply couldn’t resist. The cool, refreshing fragrance lingered around her, teasing her pheromones and her rationality alike.
For someone who had tasted meat, abstaining was too difficult.
She was supposed to be a pure college student, yet now, just the sight of Rong Jing made her thoughts stray in that direction.
Lured in, she lowered her head.
“Mmm…”
Rong Jing was awakened by the kiss, seeing the person right before her eyes. “Qi Le?”
Lin Qile gently bit her lip, sending shivers through Rong Jing’s body.
Water splashed as the two embraced and kissed in the bathtub.
After a long while, Rong Jing forced herself to lift a hand and pinch Lin Qile’s chin, frowning as she pushed her away. “Stay away from me…”
“What’s wrong?” Lin Qile looked up at her, displeased.
Just moments ago, everything had been fine, Rong Jing had even been passionately responsive, her pheromones clearly indicating arousal.
Rong Jing’s face was flushed. She pressed her fingers to her temples, pushed Lin Qile aside, and stood up, wrapping herself in a towel. As she walked away, she muttered dismissively, “I’ve been too tired these past few days. I’m going to rest first.”
Watching Rong Jing’s unsteady steps, Lin Qile sighed in confusion.
“What did I do to upset the princess this time?”
…
Monday, work.
Lin Qile had just yawned her way into the office and clocked in when she heard a commotion of murmurs behind her. Turning around, she froze in shock.
Lin Xinrou, dressed in high-end runway fashion and carrying a designer bag worth millions, walked in.
“Mom?”
Spotting her daughter, Lin Xinrou hurried over. “Sweetheart, I’m so glad to see you! I came to work, but it’s been so long since I last worked. Your mother is away on business, and I have no idea what to do!”
“You’re here to work?”
“Yes.”
Lin Qile gave her mother a once-over, the outfit alone had to cost at least three million.
“Have you decided which department you want to join?”
“When I first joined the company, I was in the marketing department.”
Lin Qile: Why the marketing department again?
Half an hour later.
Marketing Manager: “Chairwoman, President Qi said you should… uh, familiarize yourself with the marketing department first. Once you decide which department you’d like to join, we’ll discuss it further when she returns.”
“Oh.”
The manager then turned to Lin Qile. “You… you’ll stay with the chairwoman. Have her assist you with your current tasks.”
“Understood, Manager.”
Once the manager left, Lin Xinrou excitedly picked up a stack of documents. “Sweetheart, wow, do you really have to handle all these files? This is a ten-year market research plan for bathroom products. Wow, all this stuff is so professional.”
“Mom, since you used to work in marketing, could you teach me how to draft a feasibility analysis report based on this plan? I have no idea where to start.”
“Hmm… Sweetheart, it’s been over twenty years since I last worked. I’ve pretty much returned all the knowledge I learned in school to the professors.”
Mother and daughter stared at each other, clueless.
For the rest of the afternoon, the marketing department employees watched as the actual owner of the company and her heir struggled with a task even an intern could finish in under an hour.
The manager observed discreetly before calling Qi Song. “Cousin, just as you predicted, neither of them has any talent for this. They won’t notice anything amiss. You can focus on your own matters without worry.”
“Good.”
Qi Song hung up the phone, only to feel a pair of arms wrapping around her waist from behind. “Darling, you rarely visit me. Can’t you put the phone away for once?”
She turned around, lifting the woman’s chin with her finger. “No need to rush. Our good days aren’t far off. Did you finish what I asked you to do?”
“Done ages ago. Even professionals wouldn’t spot the issue right away, let alone those two useless mother and daughter.”
Qi Song smirked. “Xixi, do you know why I love you the most? I adore clever women.”
With that, she kissed Ji Xi, and the two tumbled onto the bed.
…
By the end of the workday, Lin Qile and Lin Xinrou still hadn’t managed to complete a single feasibility analysis report.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. Mom’s so useless, I can’t even get this right.”
Lin Qile quickly reassured her, “Mom, how is this your fault? I can’t make sense of it either.”
“Seems like neither of us has any talent for managing a company. Maybe we should just leave it to your mother.”
“No!” Lin Qile shouted.
Lin Xinrou flinched. “Sweetheart…”
“We can do this, Mom! If others can, why can’t we? Don’t give up. You go home first, I’ll finish this report tonight and teach you tomorrow. We’ll work hard together!”
“Alright, sweetheart. Do your best!”
After seeing Lin Xinrou off, she immediately called Rong Jing.
The line rang for a while before connecting. “What is it?”
“Rong Jing, I need saving.”
“I’m out right now. Go home first. I’ll be back later.”
She perked up instantly. “Got it! I’ll make dinner and wait for you!”
After hanging up, Rong Jing walked back to the ultrasound bed and lay down.
“Damn, I’m kind of jealous of Lin Qile now. It’s so hard for me to even see you, yet she gets to cling to you every day and you drop everything for her!”
He Yan held gel in one hand and the ultrasound probe in the other.
“You’re overthinking it. She has actual business with me.”
“What business?” she grumbled while spreading gel over Rong Jing’s abdomen. “You’re already like this, and you still haven’t told her you’re pregnant?”
“No need.”
“Why not? This isn’t like you!”
“Whatever’s between Lin Qile and me isn’t what you think.”
He Yan rolled her eyes and pressed the probe against her friend’s belly. “I’m not thinking, I’m seeing. The marks on your neck aren’t even hidden properly! Unless she’s a maniac, she must have feelings for you.”
Rong Jing scoffed.
“Mistaking lust for affection is laughable.” She glanced at the screen. “Focus on the task. How’s the baby?”
“Perfectly normal.”
After finishing the ultrasound, He Yan packed up. “You’re almost two months along. How long do you plan to keep this from her?”
“I don’t plan to tell her at all.”
“Huh?”
“I’ll deal with it when I can’t hide it anymore. I’m leaving.”
Just as she stepped out of the hospital, Rong Jing’s phone rang.
She answered. “Yes?”
“Miss Rong, about that person you asked me to investigate discreetly, I found something interesting.”
“Meet me at the usual place.”
