The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 28
Their seven-day luxury cruise honeymoon.
Sleeping, eating, and learning to dance.
These three activities summed it all up.
When they finally saw the harbor again, Lin Qile was so excited she almost wanted to kneel, thank goodness she wouldn’t have to endure Rong Jing forcing her to dance anymore.
After disembarking, their driver was already waiting.
As soon as they got in the car, Lin Qile leaned back against the seat and let out a long sigh. “I don’t want to go near the ocean for at least a year no, make that three years.”
Rong Jing opened her work tablet, which was flooded with hundreds of messages, and began replying to them one by one.
Lin Qile watched her focused profile and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly being a successful domineering CEO wasn’t as easy as it seemed.
The car first stopped at the Rong Corporation building.
Before getting out, Rong Jing handed her a card. “Here.”
“What’s this?”
“My supplementary card.”
Lin Qile’s eyes lit up. “For me?”
“Remember your current status. Don’t embarrass me when you’re out, or I’ll take it back anytime.”
She nodded eagerly, grinning like an eager puppy. “Can I ask… what’s the limit?”
Rong Jing narrowed her eyes. “How much were you planning to spend?”
“I won’t waste money! I just want to know what to expect.”
Rong Jing took the tablet and got out of the car. Before closing the door, she leaned in and asked, “How much do you think you’re worth?”
Lin Qile couldn’t help but roll her eyes internally. That sounded like she was being treated like a kept woman! Something that should have made her happy was being ruined by Rong Jing’s attitude.
What a damn tsundere!
Having already gotten used to Rong Jing’s personality, Lin Qile quickly masked her annoyance and put on a narcissistic smile. “I’m priceless, no amount of worldly money can measure my worth.”
“Fine, that’s some backbone.” Rong Jing’s lips curved almost imperceptibly. “Then I won’t insult you with money!”
Seeing her about to take the card back, Lin Qile snatched it away and tucked it safely into her pocket, grinning obsequiously. “Since it’s your kind gesture, I’ll accept it. Love you!”
Rong Jing, who had initially been watching her with amusement, froze slightly at the last two words, her pupils contracting almost imperceptibly before quickly returning to normal. A faint blush crept up her ears.
She coughed twice to cover it up and told the driver to take Lin Qile back to the Lin Corporation.
On the way, Lin Qile stared at the black card in her hand. She’d heard black cards had the highest limits, but Rong Jing had asked how much she thought she was worth.
A few thousand?
Ten thousand?
Judging by Rong Jing’s attitude, even ten thousand seemed unlikely.
Was this Rong Jing’s way of reminding her of her place?
“Ugh.”
And here she thought she’d latched onto a powerful backer.
Resting her chin on her hand, she gazed out the window. She couldn’t rely on others after all. First, she needed to help her mother regain control of the company that way, even if things turned ugly later, they could guard against Qi Song’s schemes.
As for herself, once Qi Song was dealt with, she’d go back to being a doctor. Otherwise, she’d forget all her professional knowledge. She didn’t need to be extravagantly wealthy in this lifetime just being able to support herself would be enough.
Back at the company, everyone congratulated her on her honeymoon.
When she returned to the secretary’s office, however, someone else was sitting at her desk.
Chen Nan approached her with a smile. “Welcome back from your honeymoon!”
“Yeah… Chen-jie, isn’t this my seat?”
“The workload has been too heavy these past few days, so the president hired a new secretary. She started yesterday.”
Were they kicking her out?
“Xiao Lin, what’s wrong? Aren’t you about to start school soon?”
“You go ahead and work.”
She stormed into the CEO’s office, only to find not just Qi Song there, but also Rong Yihua.
Rong Yihua smiled at her and asked, “What have you been learning from Rong Jing? You just got back and already came straight to the company?”
She greeted her with a smile. “Mother.”
“Mm.”
Good. With Rong Yihua here, things would be easier.
She turned to Qi Song behind the desk. “Mother, someone’s already taken my workstation. Where should I sit?”
Qi Song crossed her hands and rested them on her lap. “Haven’t you had enough fun? School’s starting soon you should focus on preparing for that.”
“No rush, right? You previously mentioned handing me a few joint projects with Rong Corporation to see if I have any talent for management. I’ve barely started, and you’re already pulling me out?”
Rong Yihua interjected, “That sounds reasonable. Qi Song, why not let Qile try? If she’s willing to learn now, you should teach her properly.”
Qi Song feigned indulgence. “Her? She loses interest in everything after five minutes! I don’t want to hand things over just for her to half-ass them. If something goes wrong, it’ll waste everyone’s hard work.”
“You’re calling it half-assed before I’ve even done anything? Do you really think I can’t do anything right?”
Every time she faced Qi Song, she wanted to tear off that hypocritical mask.
But what if she actually did?
First, she had no proof.
Second, she had no idea how much of the Lin family’s assets Qi Song had already swallowed. If she forced a confrontation now, she’d only be backing a cornered dog into a dead end and by then, Lin Xinrou would truly have nothing left.
Clenching her fists, she took deep breaths to suppress her fury.
“Rong Jing can help her, what are you worried about? We’re working so hard now, but the company will eventually go to these two kids. Let them try while we’re still capable of cleaning up after them.”
She gave Rong Yihua a complicated look. You want to leave Rong Corporation to Rong Jing, but Qi Song has never once considered leaving the Lin family’s business to me, her own daughter.
Both were mothers, yet Rong Yihua, though cold and reserved, genuinely cared for her daughter. And Qi Song?
She used to believe that even the cruelest wouldn’t harm their own child.
Qi Song had shattered that belief.
“Maybe Mother doesn’t want to leave the company to me at all.”
She was playing her strongest card now.
Sure enough, Qi Song’s expression darkened instantly. “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
“Then why won’t you let me try? I really enjoy working here now!”
Qi Song lost her temper. “Fine! You want to work? Then work! But don’t expect any special treatment. I’ll give you those projects, but since you’re so serious about this, you’ll follow the same rules as everyone else, same salary, same penalties for tardiness or leaving early. If you make a major mistake, HR will fire you, and you won’t complain!”
Rong Yihua frowned. “Qi Song, that’s too harsh.”
Lin Qile squared her shoulders. “Deal!”
She held her ground in the office, but the moment she stepped out, her confidence wavered.
Qi Song had clearly stopped pretending. There was no way she wouldn’t sabotage her now.
That evening.
The moment Rong Jing opened the door, she found Lin Qile waiting by the entryway with her slippers in hand. “You’re back! Here, change into these.”
After helping Rong Jing switch shoes, she guided her to the sink. “Let me wash your hands for you.”
Once that was done, she pulled her to the dining table.
Four dishes and a soup were laid out.
“Sit down, let’s eat.”
As Rong Jing reached for the chopsticks, Lin Qile was already handing them over. “Here you go.”
“You should study to be a butler, you’ve got a real talent for it.”
“No, no, no, I’m your personal servant.”
Rong Jing’s lips curled into a faint smile. “What do you want from me? Spit it out.”
“Hehe.”
She quickly grabbed a document from the stool. “I started in the marketing department today. The manager gave me this proposal to review and find any flaws before presenting it in tomorrow’s meeting.”
Rong Jing took the file, flipped through a few pages, and said, “The issues are obvious. Fix them.”
“Where are the issues?”
She stared at Rong Jing blankly.
Rong Jing: “…”
How could she miss something so glaring?
“Please, help me out, will you?”
Rong Jing set the file aside. “Eat first.”
“Okay.”
After dinner, Rong Jing went to shower while Lin Qile loaded the dishwasher, then paced outside the bathroom with the document in hand.
Once Rong Jing finished and settled on the couch, Lin Qile immediately crouched in front of her. “Young Mistress, please help me! Think of how well I’ve served as your personal stress reliever!”
Rong Jing lifted her chin. “You’ve served well?”
She nodded vigorously.
“Hmph.”
Withdrawing her hand, Rong Jing took the file and began flipping through it. “My mother told me about this afternoon. So, what’s your final position?”
“Marketing department staff.”
Rong Jing asked, “What about the previous project?”
“If I don’t mess up, they’ll let me handle it.”
Rong Jing rubbed her chin. “So your priority now is surviving the probation period in the marketing department?”
“Exactly! I checked they have morning meetings every day, work late, and even have to submit daily logs. Tomorrow’s meeting is my first big hurdle.”
“Any professional would find this document trivial.”
Lin Qile forced a bitter smile.
“I’ll help you, but you’re taking me to your family’s place for dinner this weekend.”
“Deal!”
Going back to the Lin household was Rong Jing finally making her move?!
“Listen, the data in this document…”
Rong Jing pointed out the flaws and patiently explained them.
The next day, at the Lin Corporation’s marketing department meeting.
Lin Qile spoke fluently, even using a PowerPoint to highlight issues and propose solutions.
The entire department looked stunned, while the manager’s expression darkened.
By the end, Lin Qile’s palms were sweaty. Colleagues crowded around her. “Miss Lin, you’re amazing! The rumors were way off your insights were razor-sharp!”
“Haha, don’t flatter me, it’s embarrassing. Just call me Qile or Xiao Lin. I’m just another overworked employee now mess up, and my paycheck takes the hit.”
“Ha ha ha!”
The manager called the CEO’s office. When Qi Song heard Lin Qile had passed with flying colors, her brow furrowed. “Don’t let one success fool you. She knows nothing about the business, Rong Jing must’ve helped her.”
“Cousin, I know. I’ll make sure she’s out of this company soon.”
After hanging up, the manager stepped out. “Everyone, we’re working late tonight.”
“Again?!”
Groans erupted across the room.
Back at her desk, Lin Qile texted Rong Jing: I passed. Thanks for the PowerPoint. But we’re pulling overtime tonight.
[“Hmm, remember our deal.”
“Got it.”
Without Rong Jing by her side to guide her, the day’s work was exhausting. Many things she’d never even heard of before, yet others recognized them at a glance.
She worked overtime until 8 p.m. before finally clocking out.
By the time she got home, it was already 9.
Lin Qile dragged her weary body through the door. Rong Jing was sitting in the living room drinking water. “Is Lin Corp this cutthroat?”
“Tired, hungry, and thirsty let me have a sip.”
She walked over, reaching for Rong Jing’s glass, only for her to pull it away. “Get your own.”
“Have some sympathy for the overworked, will you?”
“I didn’t make you work overtime. At Rong Corp, unless it’s an emergency, employees never work late. Overtime is usually a sign of incompetent leadership.”
“Exactly!”
Leaning against the fridge while gulping water, she agreed, “That manager in the marketing department, I just don’t see him as capable. All he does is assign tasks. A person only has two hands. Does he think everyone’s got three heads and six arms?”
Passing the dining table, she spotted the food left out and looked at Rong Jing in surprise.
“I hired a housekeeper. She cooks before leaving for the day.”
“Wow, you’re literally my goddess! I’m starving!”
She wolfed down the food at the table.
After finishing, she downed half a glass of water, leaned back in her chair, and let out a satisfied burp. “Finally feel alive again.”
Rong Jing coolly reminded her, “It’s only the first day.”
Lin Qile stiffened, then slumped. “Right. And the first day isn’t even over yet. I still have to write a work log, no less than 500 words. Does he think this is an essay?”
Pulling out her phone, she started drafting the log. But after staring at it for two minutes, she still had no idea where to begin. She quickly turned to Rong Jing for help. “How do employees in your marketing department handle their logs?”
“They don’t write them.”
“Huh?”
Rong Jing set her glass down. “Like I said, only incompetent people focus on formalities. I only care if they complete the tasks I assign.”
“That’s amazing… Then hire me at your company!”
Rong Jing gave her a once-over, then shook her head in disdain.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I know exactly what you’re capable of. Why would I waste time and money hiring deadweight?”
Lin Qile: “…”
“Besides,” Rong Jing glanced at her, “Rong Corp and Lin Corp are competitors in some projects. You staying at your company is good for us.”
Lin Qile: “??? What’s that supposed to mean? Am I really that bad?”
Rong Jing narrowed her eyes. “You forgot our deal again.”
Lin Qile instantly deflated. “Master, I remember.”
“Good. Call me ‘Master’ at home. Forget again, and don’t expect my help.”
“But my log…”
“Look it up online. If you can’t even handle this, how are you going to inherit the family business?”
With that icy remark, Rong Jing turned and walked away.]
