The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 26.1
Early morning.
Rong Jing opened her eyes to find a face right in front of hers. Furious, she kicked out.
Thud!
Something heavy hit the floor.
Lin Qile was jolted awake by the fall. Clutching the edge of the bed, still half-asleep, she mumbled, “Huh? What happened?”
Rong Jing’s face darkened as she grabbed her robe and put it on.
The moment she stepped out of bed, her legs gave way, and she collapsed back onto the mattress.
Turning her head, she shot Lin Qile a venomous glare. “Serves you right if you’d broken your neck!”
Gritting her teeth against the discomfort, she forced herself up and headed to the bathroom.
It took Lin Qile a while to fully wake up. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she smacked her lips. Maybe she had gone a bit overboard last night but damn, it was addictive.
Not that it was her fault.
Rong Jing had been the one to provoke her first. All the skills she had now? Practiced on Rong Jing herself.
Thinking back to last night, an inexplicable sense of satisfaction washed over her.
After freshening up, the two went downstairs for breakfast.
At the dining table, Lin Qile recalled the background information she had read about Rong Jing the night before. If before, she had agreed to the fake marriage purely out of fear of the villainess’s wrath, after last night, she had made a new decision.
If Rong Jing really intended to use her connections to infiltrate the Lin family and deal with Qi Song, it would be a perfect advantage for her!
If the two of them teamed up, Qi Song’s schemes would definitely fall apart.
But how should she bring up the idea of cooperation?
Should she just say she already knew all of Rong Jing’s secrets?
No, no that would be suicidal. With Rong Jing’s temperament, she might just silence her for good!
Rong Jing spoke coldly, “Why are you staring at me?”
“N-nothing. Let’s eat!”
This was tricky. This little tyrant changed moods faster than flipping pages one moment displeased, the next furious, then downright murderous.
Ugh…
She’d just have to take it one step at a time. For now, she’d help and cooperate with whatever Rong Jing wanted to do.
Yeah, that was the plan!
…
After breakfast, Rong Jing stood up. “I’m going to work.”
“Me too.”
They left the villa, each driving off in opposite directions.
The moment Lin Qile stepped into the company, everyone gave her odd looks. She quickly pulled out a compact mirror to check nothing wrong with her appearance or outfit.
It wasn’t until Chen Nan walked over with a cup of coffee that she got an answer. “Why are you at the office?”
“Chen-jie, where else would I be?”
“You just got married yesterday. Shouldn’t you be preparing for your honeymoon?”
“Ah!”
Right. Newlyweds were supposed to go on honeymoons.
But she and Rong Jing were in a fake marriage not a real couple. What kind of honeymoon would that be?
Just imagining the two of them affectionately vacationing together sent a shiver down her spine.
Outside of bed, she couldn’t picture them coexisting peacefully at all.
“Sweetheart?!”
“Mom!”
One voice was shocked, the other delighted.
Lin Xinrou was dressed casually, car keys in hand. Had her love-struck mother finally taken her advice? Hallelujah!
“Why aren’t you on your honeymoon with Rong Jing? What are you doing here?”
“I came to work! Mom, you’re here at the office too!”
Lin Xinrou blushed. “I drove your mother to work. From now on, I’ll bring her lunch and then drive her home. That way, we can spend more time together. Sweetheart, thank you for your advice. It feels just like when we first fell in love, I’m so excited!”
Lin Qile: “…”
She had celebrated too soon. A love-struck fool wouldn’t turn into a workaholic overnight!
“Enough about me. You need to go home right now and plan your honeymoon. You’re the alpha, it’s your responsibility to arrange everything. You and Rong Jing are married now. No matter how strong-willed she is or how un-omega-like she appears, at her core she’s still an omega. You must protect her, give her romance, and take good care of her.”
“I’m not going, Mom. Rong Jing is swamped with work, and my semester is about to start. I still have so much to learn.”
Lin Xinrou wouldn’t hear any excuses, dragging her toward the exit. “The company won’t collapse without you. You just married Rong Jing, this is your sweetest period. Skipping your honeymoon? That’s unacceptable!”
“But!”
“Go, go! Better yet, surprise me with a honeymoon baby.”
She massaged her temples in frustration.
This was a fake marriage! There was no way Rong Jing would agree to have a child with her, let alone with their current messy relationship. Bringing a child into this would be utterly irresponsible!
Yet Lin Xinrou refused to listen.
Lin Qile found herself unceremoniously ejected from the company.
With a wry smile, she pulled out her phone to call Rong Jing only for the other woman to call first. “Where are you?”
“Outside the company.”
Rong Jing sounded puzzled. “Outside the company?”
“My mom said newlyweds who don’t take a honeymoon are ridiculous. She kicked me out and told me to go on a romantic getaway with you.”
Rong Jing’s voice came through muffled: “Same here.”
“Huh?”
“My mother ordered me to pause all work and go on honeymoon with you.”
A shared silence fell between them, both wearing identical expressions of resignation.
“Wait for me at home.”
“Okay.”
She had barely driven home when Rong Jing arrived, holding two plane tickets.
Bewildered, she asked, “What’s this?”
“My mother booked us a honeymoon package. Pack your things we’re heading to the docks.”
Her jaw dropped. “The whole itinerary’s arranged?”
“Mm. Start packing.”
…4:00 PM.
They boarded the cruise ship.
Standing in the presidential suite, Lin Qile gaped like a country bumpkin visiting the big city for the first time, touching everything in sight the billiards room, private hot spring, lounge, balcony, garden.
“This is insanely luxurious! Who’d believe we’re on a ship? And there’s zero rocking!”
Rong Jing sat on the sofa, fingers pressed to her temples, eyes closed.
She hadn’t moved since boarding.
Lin Qile approached. “You… aren’t seasick, are you?”
“Shut up.”
“You actually get seasick? Then why would Auntie Rong book a cruise?”
Rong Jing’s lips were pale, brows tightly knit.
She’d never suffered from seasickness before her mother wouldn’t have chosen a cruise otherwise. But pregnancy seemed to have altered her constitution. The moment the ship set sail, nausea had overwhelmed her.
“Want some motion sickness pills?”
Lin Qile extended the medication helpfully, but Rong Jing suddenly stood and bolted for the bathroom.
“Ugh… ugh…”
Holding a glass of water outside, Lin Qile winced at the violent retching sounds. “Seasickness is awful. Just take the medicine.”
When Rong Jing emerged, she accepted the water, sipping weakly.
Lin Qile offered the pills again. “Medicine.”
Rong Jing ignored them completely, returning the glass before staggering to the bedroom and collapsing facedown into the blankets.
Lin Qile walked into the bedroom. “We haven’t even left port yet. Should we find a way to get off the ship? This honeymoon was already pretty surreal to begin with. Let’s disembark and say you’re seasick, cancel the honeymoon. What do you think?”
Rong Jing remained silent.
“Hey, it’s only going to rock more once we’re at sea. You’ll feel even worse then.”
“Shut up. I’m going to sleep for a while.”
“Fine. I’ll leave the medicine on the table. Call me if you need anything.”
Only after hearing the door close did Rong Jing lift her head, gazing longingly at the doorway. Seeing no one there, a flash of disappointment crossed her eyes before she buried herself back under the covers. “Jerk… absolute jerk…”
Lin Qile wandered around the cruise ship, eventually making her way to the deck. The sight before her was an endless expanse of ocean, making her jaw drop in awe.
Having lived this long, it was her first time on a cruise ship. Was this making up for the regrets of her first twenty-five years?
She quickly pulled out her phone to take pictures.
Suddenly, she noticed a group of people gathered in the distance, with someone calling for help. She strode over to find a woman lying on the ground while a young girl was administering first aid. “Everyone, move back! Don’t crowd around!”
Lin Qile hurried forward and knelt down to assist.
The girl snapped, “Don’t touch the patient! Call a doctor, she’s having an acute asthma attack!”
“I’m a medical student. What symptoms does she have?”
The girl paused briefly before answering, “Chest tightness, rapid and labored breathing.”
“Any wheezing sounds?”
When the girl froze, Lin Qile pressed her ear to the patient’s chest. Forcing herself to stay calm, she said, “Check for edema. She should have emergency medication on her.”
The girl scrambled to search and handed over a bottle. “This was in her inner pocket, but it’s empty.”
Lin Qile examined the inhaler. “Don’t move her. Patients using this medication usually have other conditions too. Where’s the doctor? Still not here?”
“They’re coming!”
Two doctors and three nurses came running. Lin Qile quickly relayed her observations, and the emergency doctor nodded while listening. “Good job. Thank you for your professional first aid.”
“No need for thanks.”
As the patient was carried away, Lin Qile stood to leave but was stopped. “Hey.”
She turned to see the girl from earlier approaching. “Hi, I’m Wu Xue, a fifth-year medical student at ** Medical University.”
“What a coincidence. I just graduated too.”
“Wow, so you’re about to start your hospital internship? Which hospital are you going to?”
“Well… actually, I haven’t decided yet.”
The truth was, due to the original host’s academic performance, it wasn’t certain she could graduate and proceed to a hospital internship. It depended on what the school would say after the new term started.
“You were so composed earlier, I almost thought you were already a doctor.”
Lin Qile smiled sheepishly. “I was actually really nervous just forcing myself to stay calm. If we panic, what happens to the patient?”
Wu Xue’s eyes lit up with agreement. “You’re absolutely right.”
They chatted amiably for a while longer. As the sun set over the sea, it painted the water like a natural masterpiece.
Wu Xue gazed at the ocean. “It’s so beautiful.”
She turned to look at Lin Qile, whose face glowed in the sunset’s light, momentarily stunning her.
“Yeah, this kind of beauty can only be created by nature.”
What a shame Rong Jing was seasick and couldn’t see this breathtaking view.
She took out her phone and snapped a photo, planning to show it off to Rong Jing later.
“I should head back now. Goodbye.”
Unnoticed by her, a trace of disappointment flashed across Wu Xue’s face as she said goodbye. With long strides, she left.
She went straight back to the presidential suite.
Before returning, she stopped by the infirmary to pick up a few things.
Back in the room, Rong Jing was still in the same position. She walked over, placed the items on the table, then carefully turned Rong Jing onto her back.
Rong Jing murmured uncomfortably.
“Ugh, if you get seasick, why did you insist on coming?”
