- The Villainous Female Side Character Pretends to Be an Omega in the Apocalypse and Raises a Cat
- Chapter 7 - Supernatural Ability
After scavenging the sixth floor, Chi Yingdong stood at the escalator entrance, her gaze drifting upward as she contemplated whether it was necessary to head to the top floor.
The top floor was a cinema, with little in the way of supplies. If she went, she could grab a popcorn machine. Having a bucket of popcorn while watching movies or binge-watching shows would certainly make things more enjoyable.
As she pondered, the sound of chaotic, hurried footsteps reached her ears. Holding her breath to listen carefully, the footsteps grew clearer, mingled with the growls of several zombies.
There are people on the top floor.
Chi Yingdong came to this conclusion and turned to head downstairs. Popcorn wasn’t a necessity, she could live without it.
However, among the survivors on the top floor, someone with sharp eyes spotted her. A young woman, as if clutching at a lifeline, shouted, “Hey, downstairs! Help us! There are monsters eating people!”
Chi Yingdong frowned slightly but didn’t stop walking. She wasn’t one to invite trouble, especially in this apocalyptic world.
Seeing that Chi Yingdong was still leaving, the woman grew frantic, her tone accusatory. “How can you be so cold-hearted and indifferent? You’re just going to stand by and watch us die?”
Her shouting was too loud, agitating the zombies and making their growls even more frenzied.
Chi Yingdong halted. How could anyone be this foolish? At a time like this, they were still provoking the zombies’ senses.
She turned and looked up toward the source of the voice. It was a girl who looked like a high school student. Seeing Chi Yingdong stop, the girl assumed her shouting had worked, a hint of smugness flashing across her face. She grabbed her partner’s hand and hurried down the escalator, muttering, “Sweetie, we’re saved!”
The two quickly stopped in front of Chi Yingdong, followed by their companions. Chi Yingdong discreetly assessed the group.
There were seven people in total: three men, three women, and a little girl. They looked exhausted, with dark circles under their eyes, their clothes stained with blood, clear signs they had endured a fierce battle the night before. Based on their positions, Chi Yingdong deduced they were three separate groups who had temporarily teamed up: a couple, a pair of twin brothers, and a family of three.
“Sis, my name is Xu Luo. I’m an Alpha. This is my wife, Bao Qiujuan. The upper floor is crawling with monsters that want to eat people. You came from downstairs, is it safe down there?” Xu Luo spoke rapidly, barely pausing for breath.
Meng Qinghe was initially just surprised at how effortlessly the person spoke, but then she registered the name. Xu Luo? She was the right-hand woman Meng had assigned to Qiao Ying in her story outline!
In the outline, Xu Luo wasn’t supposed to appear until much later. Why was she here now? Moreover, in the outline, Xu Luo was a lone wolf. How did she end up with a wife and a daughter? Has my plot derailed? Meng Qinghe began to doubt herself.
Meanwhile, Chi Yingdong quickly analyzed Xu Luo. Her eyes lingered on the fire axe in Xu Luo’s hand. The blade was stained with remnants of zombie tissue, and the handle was smeared with dark brown blood. She couldn’t help but feel a sliver of respect for Xu Luo. In a crowded place like a cinema, hiding alone wouldn’t guarantee survival. Being able to quickly adapt to the current situation and take action already put her ahead of most people.
As for the other five adults, aside from the annoying couple, the remaining three also held weapons, a baseball bat and a hammer, though their tools showed little evidence of combat.
While Chi Yingdong was sizing up the group, they were doing the same to her.
Secretly judging whether she was an Omega or an Alpha.
In the ABO world, people don’t determine strength based on the primary gender of male or female. Instead, it’s determined by the three secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega, and discrimination between these genders is severe.
Generally, Alphas tend to be taller and more imposing compared to Omegas, but judging by Chi Yingdong’s physique, they didn’t think she was an Alpha.
However, Chi Yingdong’s clothes were clean, she was carrying a small cat, and she remained calm and composed in the face of the zombies behind them. The impression she gave didn’t seem like an Omega either, could she be a Beta?
Betas held a lower social status, but in the current situation, as long as she could save them, her gender didn’t matter.
In the brief moment Xu Luo introduced herself, the zombies caught up.
Chi Yingdong swept a glance over them, roughly counting. Not many, just seven or eight.
Whether the low number was due to fewer people in the cinema or more zombies being trapped inside the screening rooms was unknown.
Chi Yingdong said calmly, “The zombies are here.”
While reminding them, she was also observing the reactions of the group.
The couple looked around, searching for a place to hide.
The twin brothers gripped their weapons nervously, clearly conflicted. They had fought their way out of the screening room, a place teeming with zombies, and were so close to escaping the mall, did they really have to fight these monsters again?
“Damn it, I’m fighting these things!” After being chased and hiding all night, Xu Luo finally snapped, cursing as she grabbed a fire axe and swung it at the zombies.
Her wife wanted to call her back but ultimately stayed silent.
Bao Qiujuan scanned the surroundings, her gaze settling on Chi Yingdong, pleading silently.
Seeing Chi Yingdong remain unmoved, the woman gritted her teeth and pushed her child forward. “Go to that older sister.”
Under Chi Yingdong’s indifferent gaze, Bao Qiujuan averted her eyes guiltily. “Please, help me look after my child.”
Perhaps not wanting to hear a refusal, Bao Qiujuan immediately tightened her grip on the baseball bat and rushed back to Xu Luo’s side.
Seeing that even the weaker Omega was fighting, the twin brothers gritted their teeth and joined in.
Meanwhile, the couple continued to retreat. Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, they immediately fled downstairs.
Chi Yingdong noticed their actions and let out a soft, disdainful snort. She’d seen plenty of people in a hurry to eat, but this was the first time she’d seen anyone in a hurry to die.
Meng Qinghe’s gaze fell on the child.
The little one, with fingers interlocked and fists pressed to her chest, kept her eyes fixed intently on her parents. Clearly terrified, her eyes red and brimming with tears, she bit her lower lip tightly, holding back her sobs to avoid causing trouble for the adults.
Well-behaved children were always endearing, and Meng Qinghe was no exception.
“Meow.”
Meng Qinghe made a sound to catch the child’s attention. Killing zombies was too bloody, and Meng Qinghe, having grown up in peaceful times, still held onto the idea of protecting a child’s innocence.
Chi Yingdong was surprised. The kitten had been very well-behaved since they left. Earlier, when she was killing zombies, she could feel the kitten trembling slightly against her chest and had worried it might become stressed like in her previous life, but the kitten hadn’t made a sound. Now, with the sudden meow, Chi Yingdong couldn’t help but be curious.
Just as Meng Qinghe had anticipated, the kitten’s meow drew the little girl’s attention.
Stared at by the child’s damp, glistening eyes, Meng Qinghe felt her heart melt. She stretched out a paw, wanting to greet the little girl.
“Meow.”
You’re so adorable. What’s your name?
The little girl nervously took a step back and timidly whispered to Chi Yingdong, “Sister, your cat can talk. She said I’m cute and asked for my name.”
Meng Qinghe: “??”
Chi Yingdong: “???”
Chi Yingdong looked down at the kitten as if seeking confirmation.
Meng Qinghe hadn’t expected the girl to understand her words and directly report them to Chi Yingdong.
Feeling the piercing gaze behind her, Meng Qinghe adjusted her mindset and turned around with a bewildered expression.
Her round eyes were clear and innocent as she nuzzled Chi Yingdong’s hand affectionately, trying to play it off.
Chi Yingdong had always suspected the kitten was unusually perceptive, and now this attempt at deception only confirmed it.
“Did you just ask for her name?”
Chi Yingdong stood her ground, refusing to be swayed by the kitten’s charms.
Meng Qinghe pretended not to understand and focused intently on licking her paw.
But under Chi Yingdong’s unwavering gaze, she eventually gave in and nodded guiltily.
Seeing the kitten nod, Chi Yingdong remained silent and instead looked toward the girl’s family.
Originally, she had planned to leave directly, after all, she hadn’t agreed to Bao Qiujuan’s request to look after the child.
But the fact that this little girl could understand the kitten gave Chi Yingdong a new perspective.
Observing the group’s fighting style more closely, Chi Yingdong frowned slightly.
These people had no formal training. Though they appeared to be fighting, their movements were primarily defensive, chaotic, and inefficient.
Chi Yingdong advised, “Aim for the zombies’ heads.”
With a clear strategy, the group’s attacks became more purposeful.
More zombies began to fall, but their pace was still too slow.
Worse, the noise from the struggle seemed to agitate the zombies further.
The zombies felt no fatigue, but the group, having stayed up all night, was running on empty. Several times, they narrowly avoided being clawed by the zombies.
The child watched her family with worry, and Meng Qinghe, affected by the girl’s anxiety, grew tense on their behalf.
“Mom, watch out!”
The little girl, usually so quiet, suddenly screamed, startling the kitten and making her ears stand on end.
Meng Qinghe turned and saw a zombie lunging toward Xu Luo’s back.
Fortunately, Chi Yingdong reacted swiftly. Three ice spikes shot out with precision, striking the zombie’s head, arm, and thigh.
The spikes embedded deep, and a chilling cold spread from the wounds, encasing the entire corpse in ice.
“!!!”
Meng Qinghe stared in awe.
Earlier, when they had left, Chi Yingdong’s ice spikes hadn’t possessed this freezing effect.
Xu Luo, saved from certain danger, stared at the fallen zombie with lingering fear.
Just a moment later, and the zombie would have bitten her, turning her into one of those monsters.
Learning that Xu Luo had almost been injured, Bao Qiujuan smashed a zombie’s head aside with her baseball bat and rushed over to check Xu Luo’s back. “Are you hurt?”
While fleeing the night before, they had witnessed people turning into monsters after being scratched or bitten by zombies.
Xu Luo shook her head. “I’m fine.”
She gently patted Bao Qiujuan’s hand in reassurance, then picked up her weapon to rejoin the fight.
This time, they fought more fiercely.
Before, they had held back, afraid of getting bitten.
But realizing that Chi Yingdong wasn’t entirely heartless, that she would step in when their lives were at risk, they shed that hesitation and fought with renewed determination.
As if by tacit agreement, the group fought at the front while Chi Yingdong occasionally stepped in to deliver a finishing blow.
The zombies were gradually eliminated, leaving a pile of corpses scattered on the ground.
Once the zombies were dealt with, the family of three embraced tightly, overwhelmed with relief at having survived the ordeal.
Watching the family huddled together, Chi Yingdong gently scratched the kitten under its chin, giving them time to process their emotions.
After regaining her composure, Xu Luo said to Chi Yingdong, “Thank you. I still don’t know how to address you.”
“Chi Yingdong.” Chi Yingdong’s gaze fell on the little girl. “No need to thank me. Thank your daughter instead.”
She had only helped because she recognized the potential in the little girl’s abilities.
“Yaoyao?” Xu Luo looked at her daughter in confusion.
Was it because Yaoyao was too adorable that this person had been willing to help them?
But Xu Luo quickly dismissed that thought. Although Chi Yingdong had an innocent and approachable appearance, the look in her eyes told Xu Luo that she wasn’t the type to be soft-hearted toward children.
As a lawyer, Xu Luo felt she was quite accurate in judging people.
