The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL] - Chapter 32
The morning sun streamed through the window. The person on the bed blinked her eyes and suddenly bolted upright, looking down to find herself wearing a white nightgown.
Song Ziqing anxiously pulled at her collar to peek inside—nothing but skin.
So, what exactly happened after my bath last night?! Song Ziqing panicked.
“Qingqing.”
Song Ziqing snapped her head up. Lu Ge was walking in with a beaming smile, carrying a tray. “You’re awake? Time for breakfast. The doctor said you need to replenish your nutrition.”
Lu Ge set the breakfast on the side table and turned around, freezing when she saw the stunned expression on the girl’s face. “What’s wrong?”
“Last night… did you…?”
Lu Ge let out an irritated huff. “Blame that Lu Qinnian! She’s always trying to hog you. I brought the medicine kit out, only to find she’d already carried you back to your room. I didn’t want to disturb your rest, so I didn’t come in. Fortunately, she had an emergency at the office and left early this morning, otherwise I wouldn’t have even been able to eat breakfast with you before heading back to the set.”
Listening to Lu Ge’s rapid-fire complaints, Song Ziqing let out a sigh of relief. But then she grew alert again. If Lu Ge wasn’t there, it meant Lu Qinnian was the one with her last night?
Song Ziqing knit her brows uneasily. She vaguely remembered Lu Qinnian entering the bathroom and crouching by the tub. Then…
Song Ziqing looked down at her clothes again. Don’t tell me Lu Qinnian was the one who changed me?!
Lu Ge handed her the porridge and continued her tirade. “Lu Qinnian is too domineering. She stayed by your side all night and didn’t leave until dawn. She called Qi Ling over but didn’t say a word to me. Thank goodness you’re alright, Qingqing.”
Song Ziqing took the bowl mechanically. Lu Qinnian stayed the whole night? That meant she really was the one with her. Did she hear those incoherent things she muttered while dazed?
Song Ziqing took a bite of porridge, her face looking miserable. Not only was she seen, but she had talked nonsense too!
Seeing her looking like she was about to cry, Lu Ge was deeply moved. “Is Qingqing sad because I’m going back to the set? Don’t cry, Sister will be back to see you soon.”
Song Ziqing looked up and nodded blankly.
Lu Ge was thrilled. “Qingqing is the best, caring about me so much.”
Song Ziqing looked at her helplessly. After breakfast, Lu Ge left with great reluctance.
Song Ziqing sat on the bed in a daze. The hazy memories of last night echoed in her mind. she remembered Lu Qinnian asking her something, but for the life of her, she couldn’t remember what it was.
“How do you feel?”
“Ah!” Song Ziqing jumped in shock. She had been so deep in thought she hadn’t noticed Lu Qinnian entering.
“I asked how your body feels.”
Lu Qinnian walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her with concern.
Song Ziqing nodded frantically. “Better, better. I’m fine.”
“Qi Ling said you fainted because of physical exhaustion combined with a lack of oxygen. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong, but you mustn’t overexert yourself.”
Song Ziqing nodded like a robot, watching the woman tentatively.
Lu Qinnian stood up uneasily. “Then get some more sleep. I won’t disturb you.”
Song Ziqing instinctively reached out and grabbed her hand. Lu Qinnian turned back in surprise, and Song Ziqing immediately let go. She looked at the woman standing before her—dressed in a black casual suit, her long hair falling straight over her shoulders, wearing rimless glasses. It looked like she had come straight from the office.
Meeting those cool eyes behind the glasses, Song Ziqing shivered. She swallowed and gave an awkward smile. “Um, I…”
“You fainted, so I carried you out, put you on the bed, and found clothes for you,” Lu Qinnian said in a calm, matter-of-fact tone.
Song Ziqing froze. Recalling the woman’s past behavior, she frowned. “You…”
“In that situation, claiming I didn’t see anything would be a lie.”
Song Ziqing glared at her in anger. Lu Qinnian remained calm. “I didn’t do anything else. You can rest assured.”
Song Ziqing’s expression stiffened. Lu Qinnian sat back down. “However, last night you asked me a quest—mph!”
Song Ziqing desperately covered the woman’s mouth, shaking her head. “Nonsense said while dazed doesn’t count.”
Lu Qinnian’s eyes softened as she pulled the girl’s hand away. A hint of warmth appeared in her cool gaze. “Then say it now.”
“Huh? Say what?” Song Ziqing looked away in a panic, not daring to meet her eyes.
Lu Qinnian looked at her earnestly. “Does Qingqing truly hate me?”
Song Ziqing’s heart hammered. She swallowed nervously and gave a silly grin. “Haven’t I liked you since we were kids? Everyone knows that.”
The moment the words left her mouth, Auntie Meng burst into the room. “That’s wonderful, Qingqing! I was worried you’d refuse. It’s great that you like Lu Qinnian.”
“What?” Song Ziqing was bewildered as Auntie Meng rushed over, pushed Lu Qinnian aside, and grasped her hands.
Lu Chi followed behind with a helpless smile. He looked at Lu Qinnian and explained, “Your Mother Song and we were hoping you and Qingqing could marry. We were worried Qingqing wouldn’t be willing, but now we know she likes you.”
Auntie Meng nodded excitedly. “I’ll tell your Mother Song right now.”
She pulled out her phone and immediately dialed Song Ziqing’s mother.
Song Ziqing panicked, shaking her head. “Auntie, it’s not like that! You misunderstood, I—”
“Oh! Daughter!” Mother Song’s face appeared on the screen, looking excited. “I heard something happened to you and it gave me a fright! You look quite well now, though.”
“Old Song, it’s a success! Qingqing likes Lu Qinnian, we heard it with our own ears,” Auntie Meng said, glancing at Lu Chi.
“No, no, no! It’s not…” Song Ziqing tried to explain, but Auntie Meng held her hand tight. “Qingqing! Don’t be shy. It’s perfectly normal. You’re at the age to marry. If Lu Qinnian waits any longer, she’ll be over the hill.”
Standing behind them, Lu Qinnian’s expression froze. She felt a sudden sense of crisis. Looking at the struggling Song Ziqing, she felt a pang of disappointment but didn’t want to offer an explanation.
Mother Song let out a hearty laugh. “Old Xu, you’d better think this through. If my daughter marries in, she’s going to take half your family fortune.”
“Of course! we promised. As long as Qingqing is willing to marry, we’ll transfer the shares immediately,” Auntie Meng said excitedly.
Mother Song looked at Song Ziqing through the screen. “Daughter, what do you think?”
“I…” Song Ziqing looked at the three expectant faces and then turned a pained smile toward Lu Qinnian.
Lu Qinnian looked at Mother Song on the screen, her lips curving into a gentle, almost docile smile. “Auntie Song, I will treat Qingqing very well.”
Song Ziqing’s heart skipped a beat as she stared at her in disbelief.
Lu Qinnian kept her eyes on the screen, not daring to look at the girl beside her.
Mother Song and Auntie Meng laughed with joy. “It’s destiny, Old Song! We were meant to be in-laws. Aren’t you coming back next week? Let’s hold the engagement ceremony then.”
“What?” Song Ziqing shook her head immediately.
Auntie Meng gave a wicked grin. “Don’t be shy. The sooner the engagement, the sooner you can live together properly. We’ll be at ease then.”
Song Ziqing gave Lu Qinnian a pleading look. Lu Qinnian cleared her throat. “Mom, it’s a bit early. We—”
Lu Chi, who had been standing by silently, suddenly spoke up. “Early? You’re thirty! We’ve been waiting for a granddaughter for ages!”
Lu Qinnian looked back at Song Ziqing, who awkwardly turned her face away.
Auntie Meng pulled the girl into a hug. “From now on, we are truly one family.”
Mother Song smiled. “Qingqing, be good to Qinnian. No fighting, no throwing tantrums, okay? You have to get along.”
Song Ziqing gave a bitter laugh. “No, Mother, I—”
“Alright, I have things to do. I’ll be back next week with gifts for you both!” Mother Song hung up the call in a hurry.
Auntie Meng patted Song Ziqing’s head. “Rest well and recover. You must look beautiful for the engagement next Saturday.”
“Auntie Meng, I don’t think we need to be in such a hurry,” Song Ziqing said, grabbing her hand.
Auntie Meng looked at Lu Chi. “Hubby, look, our Qingqing is getting shy.”
“I’m not, I…” Song Ziqing looked at Lu Qinnian. Lu Qinnian was watching her with a gentle, smiling gaze.
“We’ll go get things ready,” Auntie Meng said, nudging Lu Chi. She gave Song Ziqing a wink. “We won’t disturb you two.”
“Auntie Meng, it’s not like that!” Song Ziqing watched them leave, unable to decide whether to laugh or cry.
She turned to Lu Qinnian and asked in a huff, “Why didn’t you explain?”
“Why didn’t you explain?” Lu Qinnian countered calmly.
Song Ziqing was stunned. “They were so excited I didn’t even have a chance to get a word in!”
“Exactly. I didn’t have a chance either,” Lu Qinnian said, sitting down beside her.
Song Ziqing paused. “What now?”
“If they say marriage, they really will make us marry immediately.”
Song Ziqing jumped. “We can’t!”
“Why?” Lu Qinnian asked. Her eyes were as still and deep as a dark pool.
Song Ziqing nervously retracted her hand. “I… I think we should at least date first? If we jump straight into marriage, what if we aren’t a good fit?”
Lu Qinnian said calmly, “If we aren’t a fit, we can just divorce.”
Song Ziqing’s heart gave a jolt. She frowned and looked at her with dissatisfaction. “You actually want to divorce me?!”
“If we aren’t a fit, would you not divorce me?”
Song Ziqing glared at her, gnashing her teeth. “That’s right! Even if we aren’t a fit, I will never divorce you! I won’t let you off the hook! So you’d better think carefully about whether you want to marry me!”
Lu Qinnian’s lips turned up slightly. Song Ziqing didn’t realize she had fallen right into a linguistic trap.
Lu Qinnian feigned a cool demeanor. “You said it yourself—never divorce me.”
“Yes!” Song Ziqing blurted out.
Lu Qinnian froze for a second, her eyes full of suppressed joy. She stood up. “Rest well and get your strength back.”
Watching her walk out, Song Ziqing finally realized she’d been played. She shouted, “Lu Qinnian! Come back here!”
Lu Qinnian shut the door without looking back. Song Ziqing shouted again, “Niannian! Come back! I didn’t mean it! Sister!”
Lu Qinnian, wearing a triumphant smile, walked straight back to her own room.
