- Chapter 7 - What to Do When My Wife Loves Me Too Much (Part 7)
In the following days, Bai Jun remained in high spirits, thinking about her upcoming discharge from the hospital. However, she still found herself occasionally envious of other people’s phones.
She didn’t quite understand why, but deep down, she felt an inexplicable urge to own a phone capable of taking photos, recording audio, and capturing videos. It was as if only such a device could give her a sense of security.
Even the caregiver Sister Zhang’s phone was better than hers!
Frustrated, she secretly dialed her mother’s number again only to confirm, once more, that it was disconnected.
But she had no intention of contacting her father.
The resentment between them ran deep.
Her father had never liked her. From the time she was little, he had pressured her mother to have another child, a son. When her mother refused due to health reasons, he threw tantrums and even stayed away from home for long stretches.
Bai Jun had once tried desperately to win her father’s approval. She studied relentlessly and even took up dancing to emulate him, he had once been a minor celebrity. But when she was ten, returning late from dance class, she caught him kissing a woman in his car.
She hadn’t gotten a clear look at the woman’s face, but from that day on, she gave up trying to please him.
She had considered telling her mother the truth about her father, but every time she saw the joy in her mother’s eyes when speaking of him, the words died in her throat.
Instead, she cut off all news about her father. Her mother, troubled by Bai Jun’s sudden hostility, chalked it up to teenage rebellion, believing she would grow out of it. She tried everything to mend their relationship.
But Bai Jun knew better. She would never bow her head again, the pretense of harmony between them was shattered forever.
Fearing her mother would one day discover the infidelity and be devastated, Bai Jun changed her demeanor. She became playful and lighthearted around her mother, doing everything she could to make her laugh.
She just wanted to grow up faster.
That way, even if her mother found out and fell apart, Bai Jun could be her pillar, shielding her from further pain.
Freed from the need to please, she began scrutinizing her father critically and noticed something else: he seemed to be systematically appropriating assets under her mother’s name.
At twelve, during a summer visit to her grandfather’s, she had planned to bring this up with him. Her mother might be blind to her father’s schemes, but her grandfather, a seasoned businessman who had seen it all, wouldn’t let it slide.
But time had slipped away like fleeting clouds. Fifteen years had passed since then.
Her mother was still with her father, seeking treatment abroad. Her grandfather had passed away. And Bai Jun herself had lost her memories, with no recollection of how things had unfolded.
But the idea of reaching out to the man she despised? Absolutely unthinkable.
In the end, Bai Jun turned her attention to Lin Song.
She had mostly recovered by now, able to walk without Sister Zhang’s help. Surely it wouldn’t be too much to ask Lin Song for a better phone?
So that evening, when Lin Song arrived, Bai Jun greeted her with unusual warmth.
“Wife!” She motioned for Lin Song to come closer, and when she did, Bai Jun wrapped her arms around her waist and whispered coyly, “Could you get me a new phone? I don’t want to use this one anymore.”
“When I was in school, Junjun was afraid of disturbing my studies, so the phone she sent me was also this kind, ” Lin Song took the opportunity to embrace her in return, her gaze falling on the old-fashioned phone in Bai Jun’s hand, her expression tinged with nostalgia.
“I was so happy when I received the phone because I could finally get back in touch with you. Back then, every little achievement I made, I wanted to tell you, but I was afraid of bothering you if you were too busy. I’d prepare for a long time before every call.”
Bai Jun hadn’t expected this backstory. She blinked, momentarily forgetting about wanting the phone, and couldn’t help but ask, “What happened after that?”
“After that? Not long after, you went abroad. But before you left, you told Aunt Feng to keep supporting me.”
“It wasn’t until I got into university that you returned from overseas. As soon as I heard the news, I reached out to you right away.”
Bai Jun fell silent.
She felt a pang of guilt.
Born into wealth, she had never lacked money, and what she had given was only a tiny fraction of her resources.
Yet it seemed that with so little, she had won Lin Song’s wholehearted devotion.
“I know you want a phone,” Lin Song brought it up herself, gently stroking Bai Jun’s cheek as she explained softly, “But lately, you haven’t been at the company, and there’s been some messy gossip outside. Aunt Feng and I were worried that seeing those rumors might upset you.”
“Often, seeing isn’t even believing.”
“In modern society, information is a chaotic mix, and public opinion is like a frenzy that sweeps everyone along. Some of the ‘truths’ we see are often deliberately edited behind the scenes.”
“Besides, the person who tried to kill you still hasn’t been found, and now you’ve lost your memory. We’re afraid they might contact you through your phone and harm you again.”
“But,” Lin Song sighed when she noticed Bai Jun biting her lip, “you really do need a more functional phone now.”
Lin Song seemed to understand the hidden anxiety in Bai Jun’s heart. “A few days ago, I asked a teacher friend of mine, and she recommended a study phone that can take photos, chat, and video call but doesn’t have a browser or video apps. Would that be okay?”
As she spoke, Lin Song’s expression remained as gentle as ever, but Bai Jun sensed an indescribable worry and sharpness in her eyes.
“I, of course I can!”
Bai Jun had always been good at seizing opportunities. Now that Lin Song had brought it up herself, she naturally agreed without hesitation.
She wasn’t particularly interested in games or browsers she just wanted to record videos and take photos. Without those functions, she felt insecure.
“Then, Junjun, after you get the phone, will you video call me every day?”
Hearing Bai Jun’s agreement, Lin Song seemed to relax, her eyes softening like a pool of gentle spring water. “Every free moment I have, I think of you.”
Bai Jun’s cheeks flushed even redder.
Her wife’s ability to flirt had grown stronger lately, and she was struggling to handle it.
“Of course, I’ll call you,” she could only lift her chin and speak with a red face. “I’ll check to see if you’re lying!”
Lin Song laughed again, seemingly overjoyed, even leaning against Bai Jun’s shoulder,
“Then I’ll be waiting for your inspection!”
Bai Jun’s face burned crimson. As she looked at Lin Song’s sparkling eyes, a subtle ache rose in her heart.
So, this is the feeling of being in perfect harmony with one’s partner, without any reservations!
Father absolutely despised receiving calls from either himself or Mother while he was working. Every time he answered the phone, he would fly into a rage, saying it disrupted his work.
Yet he had no talent for business whatsoever, and afterward, it was often Mother who had to clean up his messes.
Compared to Father, Bai Jun increasingly adored his considerate and beautiful wife.
Gazing at Lin Song’s lovely profile, Bai Jun couldn’t help but recall the kiss Lin Song had planted on his cheek earlier.
Afterward, he had been somewhat regretful about his dazed reaction at the time.
Bai Jun’s eyes flickered, and he coughed lightly, lowering his voice as he slowly leaned in toward Lin Song.
“Darling, I have a secret to tell you!”
He nervously swallowed, worried that Lin Song might see through his intentions.
Lin Song’s eyes were too clear, as if nothing could remain hidden in front of her.
But after glancing at him, Lin Song lowered her gaze obediently and leaned her ear closer.
Bai Jun was overjoyed and immediately put his plan into action, swiftly planting a kiss on Lin Song’s cheek with lightning speed.
Yet, as luck would have it, Lin Song suddenly turned her head, and Bai Jun’s lips ended up landing right on Lin Song’s mouth!
The unfamiliar yet warm and soft sensation of their lips meeting sent their breaths mingling together.
?!
Bai Jun’s eyes widened, his lashes trembling, he never expected such an accident!
Lin Song also seemed shocked, her cheeks instantly flushing red, her breathing uneven. Her gaze, misty with emotion, locked onto him as if she were suppressing something, her body even trembling slightly.
Lin Song’s pitiful expression made her look even shyer than he had been at the time!
Bai Jun swallowed hard. Initially, he had felt a bit embarrassed, but seeing Lin Song like this, he suddenly felt a strange impulse rising within him, he wanted to keep kissing the delicate and vulnerable Lin Song, to watch her blush, to hear her softly call him “Jun Jun”.
Bai Jun was startled by his own sudden wicked thoughts.
“You’re so good to me, I couldn’t help but want to kiss you.”
He shouldn’t treat Lin Song like this.
Bai Jun took a deep breath in repentance and turned his head away. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“You didn’t scare me,” Lin Song trusted him so completely that even her shy voice seemed to drip with tenderness, her gaze still filled with affection. “I’m happy no matter what you do to me!”
Bai Jun closed his eyes.
Oh no, he wanted to tease her again! How could he be so wicked?
“Next time I kiss you, I’ll ask for permission first,” he muttered, not daring to look at Lin Song, his voice as faint as a mosquito’s hum.
Lin Song sighed.
“Jun Jun, you really don’t need to apologize,” Lin Song remained as considerate as ever, leaning in to wipe the lipstick smudged on Bai Jun’s lips. But perhaps due to nervousness, Lin Song lingered, her slender fingers unintentionally parting his lips, taking a long time to clean up.
“Done!”
After a while, Lin Song finally withdrew her hand, her voice slightly hoarse. “Because I can’t control myself either, I’m always thinking.”
Perhaps out of shyness, she didn’t finish her sentence, but Bai Jun understood. Lin Song must have wanted to kiss him too.
Bai Jun couldn’t help but blush again, though the corners of her lips curled upward uncontrollably, the sweetness in her heart impossible to suppress.
“You can kiss me if you want. You’re my wife, it’s not like I’d stop you,” she said, tilting her chin up with feigned magnanimity.
“Alright, then thank you, Junjun.”
Lin Song seemed delighted, her smile rippling outward in waves. But just as Bai Jun had expected, the bashful Lin Song only dared to say it she didn’t have the courage to actually kiss her. Instead, she leaned against Bai Jun and began discussing their plans.
“Junjun, I’ll bring my phone over tomorrow night.”
“The hit-and-run driver still hasn’t been caught. The police found out he’s involved in multiple other cases, so just to be safe, I’d like you to stay in the hospital a few more days.”
In this tender atmosphere, Bai Jun didn’t want to refuse any of her wife’s requests and agreed to everything.
The mood was peaceful and lovely, and Bai Jun didn’t even realize when she drifted off to sleep.
In her drowsy state, she seemed to have another strange dream.
In the dream, a cute cat kept nuzzling her face, first her forehead, then her cheeks, and finally her lips, where it lingered and didn’t pull away.
