The Vampire Tycoon Secretly Loves Me - Chapter 6
Dust swirled violently all around as the wind enveloped Ye Linghan like a vortex. He had no time to dodge, nor even a chance to look up, before he felt his feet leave the ground. His body suddenly became airborne, soaring into the sky along with that dark shadow.
To be precise, he was being carried into the sky.
“Yin Chen, is that you?” Ye Linghan was likely the only person who dared to call the young master of the Vampire Clan directly by his name.
Perhaps it could be excused as a slip of the tongue due to fright; surely a powerful vampire figure wouldn’t quibble over such trifles.
Because of the unique scent Yin Chen carried, combined with nearly twenty years of living together day and night, the perception of him was etched into Ye Linghan’s very soul. Thus, he knew who it was without even having to guess.
“Mm,” Yin Chen responded faintly, his tone showing no displeasure at being addressed by his name.
In the night sky, stars twinkled brightly, echoing the reflected glow of the city’s neon lights.
“Aren’t you afraid of being seen like this?” Yin Chen’s embrace felt immensely powerful, so Ye Linghan didn’t fear the height. On the contrary, he enjoyed it—so much so that, once he stopped worrying about his own safety, he began to worry about Yin Chen’s identity being exposed.
Even if Yin Chen didn’t care, flying through the sky so brazenly would inevitably lead to gossip.
Yin Chen flew steadily. Vampires were naturally born with a pair of wings, though due to bloodline factors, some low-tier vampires were unable to manifest them. Therefore, not all vampires could fly.
“I’m not afraid. With the protection of the barrier, no one can see us.”
As if to prove Yin Chen’s words, Ye Linghan looked down and saw a young couple strolling along the roadside. He cupped his hands around his mouth like a megaphone and called out softly, “Hey—”
In a place he couldn’t see, the corner of Yin Chen’s mouth curled into a slight arc. His gaze was no longer as sharp as usual, softened by a touch of tenderness. He tightened his hold slightly to prevent Ye Linghan from falling while playing around.
Just as Yin Chen said, the shout did not reach the ears of the couple below.
Seeing this, Ye Linghan grew bolder. “Hey—I wish you happiness!”
Still, there was no response.
But in his heart, Yin Chen silently replied to that sentence: I hope we can be happy too.
Ye Linghan knew none of this; he was still immersed in curiosity.
How miraculous, Ye Linghan thought. Hearing about it was nothing compared to seeing it. He had always heard that vampires possessed supernatural powers, but he hadn’t expected them to be so real.
Yin Chen held Ye Linghan tightly as they soared through the night sky, quietly guarding his only experience of true attraction amidst the twilight.
Ye Linghan looked down at the ground, a cool breeze brushing against his face.
If I can find a vampire boyfriend who knows how to fly in the future, and then have him use this special ability so the two of us can “play” in the sky while watching the people coming and going below… just thinking about it is quite thrilling.
Suddenly feeling his thoughts drifting off course, Ye Linghan cut off this “wicked” idea. After all, a boyfriend was still a far-off dream; there was no use thinking so much. Completing his current tasks was the top priority.
After returning home, Yin Chen went to the study to take a business call. Not knowing how long the discussion would last, Ye Linghan went to take a shower alone.
When his mind had been tense, he hadn’t felt tired, but now, as the warm water flowed over his head, he felt his body and mind relax significantly. Simultaneously, his eyelids began to grow heavy, fighting against his will.
He finished washing up quickly and lay down on the bed. It felt as though the moment his eyelids met, he stepped into a world of chaotic nothingness.
After an unknown amount of sleep, Ye Linghan felt his hand being gently lifted. At the same time, a cold sensation touched his finger. For a moment, he couldn’t distinguish between a dream and reality, but driven by instinctual alertness, he forced his eyes open blearily. In his hazy vision, he raised his hand and saw a translucent, jade-like ring on his finger.
Ye Linghan was currently lying on his side. The breath against his neck and the weight pressing against him reminded him that Yin Chen was right behind him. He shifted his body and spoke softly, “What is this?”
Ye Linghan closed his palm slightly, looking at the ring that emitted a warm glow in the dark.
What does he mean by this?
In more than one moment, many unrealistic fantasies flashed through his mind.
“I felt it suited you. Do you like it?” Yin Chen said in a low voice. Perhaps because he had spoken a lot during the meeting, his voice carried a hint of hoarseness.
The scent on Ye Linghan’s body held a similar magic for Yin Chen. The latter pulled Ye Linghan tightly into his arms, his nose grazing Ye Linghan’s neck, seemingly doing his best to suppress the urge to bite down.
“Thank you, I like it very much.” In the darkness, Ye Linghan placed his hand over his heart. That “I like it” was not a lie, but it didn’t just refer to the ring.
The next day, because he had rested well the night before, Ye Linghan woke up earlier. His biological clock was usually quite punctual, provided he wasn’t dreaming.
However, a strange sense of heaviness on his body made him even more awake. Ye Linghan turned his head, and what entered his sight was Yin Chen’s stunningly beautiful face.
Why is he… still here?
Over the years, except for essential moments, Yin Chen had never stayed overnight with Ye Linghan. In most cases, he would leave after Ye Linghan fell asleep. Ye Linghan hadn’t thought much of it the previous night, assuming he would just stay for a bit and then go, but he hadn’t expected him to sleep by his side.
While Ye Linghan was in shock, Yin Chen moved his body, tightening his arm around Ye Linghan’s waist and murmuring, “You’re awake?”
This was the first time Ye Linghan had heard such a… “soft and cute” voice from Yin Chen.
“Mm,” Ye Linghan responded. “Why haven’t you gone to the company?”
For Ye Linghan, staying the night was rare enough, but not going to work was even stranger. It was well-known that the young master of the Vampire Clan was a workaholic who was never late. Yet at this hour, he was clearly late.
“On leave. Not going,” Yin Chen said succinctly.
Is this the confidence of a boss? Ye Linghan couldn’t help but marvel.
After they got up, Yin Chen had the butler bring breakfast. The two had little interaction, as if they were strangers, while they finished the first meal of the day.
Although Ye Linghan usually stayed at home, he wasn’t exactly idle. He often sat on the balcony reading books on pharmacology and chemical reagents.
“What are you reading?” Yin Chen’s voice came from behind him.
Ye Linghan’s arm jerked instinctively, wanting to close the book and hide it, because he knew Yin Chen didn’t like him looking at these things. But thinking about it, hiding it would be futile, so he forced himself to stay calm.
“Nothing.” He simply handed the book to Yin Chen. “Do you want to see?” Since he couldn’t hide it, he chose to be open.
Yin Chen took the book with his long, pale fingers, but he didn’t look at it. Instead, his gaze remained fixed on Ye Linghan. He placed the book face down on the side table, leaving the title clearly exposed.
Yin Chen propped one hand on the table and the other on the sofa, his leg wedged between Ye Linghan’s knees, looming over him in a way that semi-encircled him in his arms.
Yin Chen’s gaze seemed like it wanted to see right through Ye Linghan. They had rarely had contact unless necessary, but lately, Ye Linghan wondered if it was his imagination—it felt like Yin Chen had become more “clingy” than before.
Yin Chen didn’t speak, and Ye Linghan didn’t dare to open his mouth. The two stared at each other for a long time before Yin Chen finally said calmly, “I’m going on a business trip tomorrow. Are you coming?”
This was the first time he had asked Ye Linghan in a consultative tone. Previously, Yin Chen would mostly force Ye Linghan to come along because there were times when he couldn’t control his bloodlust, and the only one who could help him was Ye Linghan.
Ye Linghan didn’t adapt to Yin Chen’s way of speaking immediately. In the beginning, he was filled with terror toward Yin Chen. As time passed and he grew older, he found that Yin Chen didn’t seem bad; in fact, he was quite tolerant of him, even if they weren’t close. So, he had begun to be bolder.
But no matter how bold he was with Yin Chen, Ye Linghan didn’t dare let the young master coax him into doing things. Therefore, he naturally couldn’t refuse the request for the business trip. He could only agree, and indeed, he had to agree.
Ye Linghan nodded. “Okay, where are we going?”
“Nancheng—”
The distance between Nancheng and Dongcheng wasn’t short. To save time, ordinary working people would choose to fly between the two locations. Naturally, Yin Chen was no exception, except that he had his own private jet.
To outsiders, Ye Linghan was just an assistant to Yin Chen—the kind of assistant who didn’t have to do anything except follow the boss.
Thus, on the way to Dongcheng via private jet, Yin Chen was busy with official business in the modified study within the cabin, while Ye Linghan did his own things in his room.
Suddenly, Ye Linghan’s phone rang. For convenience, Yin Chen had specifically installed wireless internet on the plane, and the speed was not slow at all.
Ye Linghan pressed the answer button. “Tangtang, is something wrong?”
Judging by the tone, Zhao Tang on the other end of the line seemed to be trying his best to keep his voice down. “Linghan, where did you get that cigarette butt you gave me?”
Ye Linghan’s heart sank. Zhao Tang rarely beat around the bush; the cigarette butt indeed had issues.
“Did something happen?”
“Yes,” Zhao Tang said softly. “I can’t identify the specific components for now, but I took some time to extract the DNA today. The results are extremely close to the victim of a missing persons case from twenty years ago. That case remains unsolved to this day. So, where exactly did you get it?”
Twenty years ago… at that time, Ye Linghan had just been born. So, the matter once again unavoidably circled back to Yin Chen.
It wasn’t that the case was necessarily related to him, but the most direct way to investigate was to ask him.
“I…” Ye Linghan was about to speak when he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps outside the door. He quickly changed his tone. “Tangtang, I have something going on here. I’m on a business trip. I’ll talk to you when I get back.”
Just as he hung up the phone, Yin Chen happened to push the door open and enter. “Who were you talking to?”
“A classmate.” Seeing Yin Chen walk over, Ye Linghan felt inexplicably guilty and swallowed hard.
And all of this was keenly captured by Yin Chen. “What are you nervous about?”
“Huh? It’s nothing.” Ye Linghan quickly forced a smile onto his face to make himself look normal.
After all, Yin Chen had very little free time, and since Zhao Tang hadn’t told him who the victim from twenty years ago was, many things couldn’t be pieced together yet. Furthermore, it might involve the Vampire Clan, so Ye Linghan wanted to wait until the threads were clearer before asking Yin Chen about it all at once.
“Are you not used to staying here?”
Out of nowhere, a word of concern came from Yin Chen. Ye Linghan didn’t know how to respond for a moment; this wasn’t his first time on a private jet. “No, not at all.”
Before boarding the plane, Ye Linghan had specifically taken a motion sickness pill. Fortunately, the private jet flew quite steadily, so he didn’t feel any discomfort.
After Ye Linghan said this, he could visibly see Yin Chen’s eyes darken. He didn’t know which sentence had made him displeased, so he kept his mouth shut and didn’t dare to speak further.
