Chapter 28: Sitting on His Lap Big Brother was filled with desire for him
Everyone had originally thought Fu Xici was a fool. Now they realized he was anything but. When his face which shared sixty percent of its features with Fu Kaijiang—went cold, it was genuinely terrifying.
The aunt was named Fu Yulian, a name meant to evoke the image of a lotus rising unsullied from the mud. As the only daughter of the older generation, her parents had doted on her excessively. Yet, she had fallen for a “soft-rice man” (a gold-digger) in college and got pregnant before graduation, throwing the family into chaos.
Her father, Fu Zhihong, was no saint. He forced her to have an abortion and break up with the man. However, Fu Yulian managed to escape and run away with him anyway. By the time the elders found her, she had a one-year-old daughter. With no other choice, the Fu family accepted the man as a son-in-law and gave him a high-level position at Tengfei Network Technology. Despite years of acting like a big shot based on his connections, Zhang Zhantu the husband had achieved nothing and spent his days plotting to break a branch company away from the Fu family to run it himself.
No one expected Tengfei Technology to fall into Fu Xici’s hands. The couple thought Fu Kaijiang was insane to give a company to a “fool” and had spent plenty of time badmouthing them behind their backs.
Zhang Zhantu had tried to use his seniority to bully the “foolish” eldest son when he first took office. After Fu Xici nearly maneuvered him into professional ruin several times, he finally learned to behave. After returning from a business trip where he barely escaped a trap, he complained to his wife: “I thought the eldest Fu was a retard. Why did he suddenly become a genius?”
Fu Yulian didn’t believe him. “The doctors said his brain was damaged at thirteen. He couldn’t even finish a test paper during the college entrance exams. How smart can he be? The biggest threat was Lu Yunchuan, but now that he’s a fake, everything will eventually belong to the real second son, Fu Lingchuan.”
Zhang Zhantu shook his head. “No, no. I almost died on this trip. Fu Xici knew it was dangerous and sent me alone. When I called him for help, he didn’t even pick up. I think he did it on purpose. Your nephew is ruthless…”
Back at the family gathering, Fu Yulian was silenced by a single look from Fu Xici. Even the second uncle, Fu Kaila, and his family were stunned, their eyes fixed on Fu Xici’s face.
Lu Yunchuan observed everyone’s reactions carefully. His hand was still held in Big Brother’s grip; that burning palm had already warmed his icy fingers.
Fu Kaijiang cleared his throat to break the tension. “We’re finally all together. Let’s keep the peace. Xici, temper your attitude. Today we are one family. I haven’t decided to kick Yunchuan out; as long as he is in the Fu house, he is the Second Young Master. I won’t stand for anyone speaking ill of him.”
Fu Yulian wanted to nitpick but had to shut up. If she offended the head of the family now, her relationship with the main branch would only worsen.
The elderly grandparents, used to their children’s bickering, didn’t intervene. They saw that Fu Xici was protecting Lu Yunchuan, and that was enough for them.
“I heard you placed in the top three of your grade for the finals?” Grandpa Fu asked Lu Yunchuan with a smile. “Your grandmother and I are so happy.”
Lu Yunchuan tried to pull his hand back while smiling. “You found out? Is there anything in this city you don’t know, Grandpa?”
Fu Zhihong laughed. “The whole social circle knows. Our former ‘delinquent’ second son is now a top student.”
Grandmother added, “It’s so impressive. In our circle, people compare everything. If they can’t beat you on family background, they compare children. We used to be a bit embarrassed in that department, but you’ve won a round for us.”
Hearing the elders praise Lu Yunchuan, Fu Xici’s expression softened. Though he was a man of few words, his pride was written all over his face.
At dinner, the topic inevitably turned to Fu Xici’s marriage.
“Sister-in-law,” Fu Yulian asked Jiang Wanyue, “I heard Xici was getting engaged. I had the gift ready, but then the news stopped. What happened?”
Jiang Wanyue’s face stiffened. For the sake of her son’s dignity, she lied: “Xici didn’t like her, and his father and I weren’t satisfied either. Just because he has a speech impairment doesn’t mean anyone can marry him. We want a true socialite, a proper match.”
The grandmother, an elegant woman even at 78, looked at Fu Xici. “I wonder if your grandfather and I will live to see the eldest great-grandson of the Fu family, Xici.”
Fu Xici glanced at Lu Yunchuan. Terrified, Lu Yunchuan immediately turned to talk to his younger cousin, Fu Wanning, to avoid the gaze.
After dinner, it began to snow. Grandpa Fu ordered the rooms to be assigned. Fu Lingchuan proactively offered to share a room with Lu Yunchuan and Fu Yunzhou to seem “sensible,” but Lu Yunchuan refused. He’d rather sleep with Big Brother than look at Fu Lingchuan’s fake face.
Of course, Fu Xici wouldn’t give him the chance to sleep with anyone else anyway.
In the guest rooms, Jiang Wanyue sighed to herself. Fu Yulian pulled her aside, whispering, “Isn’t it a bit weird? Xici is nearly thirty, and Yunchuan is grown now. They’re still so close they have to sleep together?”
Jiang Wanyue felt a surge of nerves but snapped back, “What are you talking about? They are brothers. Yunchuan grew up in his arms. After the whole family ganged up to kick Yunchuan out, it’s only natural Xici protects him. Don’t be disgusting.”
Fu Yulian persisted. “Just watch out. Yunchuan isn’t a blood relative. If something happens, this family won’t be able to show its face in Beijing ever again.”
“Are you cursed?” Jiang Wanyue hissed. “They are brothers, not a brother and sister. It’s normal for them to share a room. Stop looking at my son with your filthy mind.”
Inside the east wing guest room, Lu Yunchuan had taken off his jacket and scarf. The heater was humming. He sat on the mahogany sofa playing a game on his phone. Fu Xici closed the windows and pulled the heavy curtains shut, blocking out the falling snow.
“Brother, you really should find a wife,” Lu Yunchuan teased. “Look at how much the family cares. Get married quickly and give me a little niece to play with next year.”
Fu Xici didn’t answer. He walked over, sat down next to him, and pulled him into his arms.
“We’re in the ancestral home,” Lu Yunchuan whispered, resisting. “The Fu ancestors are watching! You can’t do this. Stop it.”
Fu Xici ignored the protest. With a firm use of strength, he lifted Lu Yunchuan and pulled him onto his lap.
Lu Yunchuan glanced at the window like a thief. His character in the game died because of the distraction. GAME OVER.
Fu Xici held Lu Yunchuan’s waist with one hand and cupped his cool cheek with the other, forcing him to turn and look at him. “Not marrying.“
Lu Yunchuan’s heart rate felt like it hit ten thousand. Fu Lingchuan and Fu Yunzhou were in the very next room; he could even hear their voices. He swallowed hard, seeing the thick, heavy desire in Fu Xici’s dark eyes.
“I can’t give you children,” Lu Yunchuan warned in a small voice. “Everyone is waiting for your heir, and here you are doing this.”
Fu Xici stared straight into the depths of his eyes, his voice low and vibrating with intent: “I’ll have them with you.“
