Chapter 27: Boyfriend Brotherly Respect in Public Passionate Kissing in Private
Lu Yunchuan’s grades continued to improve steadily. By the time of the final mock exam, he had already dominated the rankings, placing in the top three of his grade. Even Yang Lulu was left in his wake, leaving everyone speechless at his progress.
The ones most hit by this were Huo Yanxiu and Du Yunrui. They never imagined that their former leader the one who used to hang out at various high schools causing trouble was actually a “fake” slacker.
Previously, the three of them were always listed together on the school notice board: Lu Yunchuan first, Huo Yanxiu second, and Du Yunrui definitely third starting from the bottom of the rankings.
Back then, they were so “close” in proximity, but that was the closest their rankings would ever be in this lifetime. Now that Lu Yunchuan had turned over a new leaf and emerged as a dark horse among the senior students, they couldn’t catch up to him no matter how hard they worked.
Feeling heartbroken, Huo Yanxiu treated Lu Yunchuan and Du Yunrui to a meal during the winter break after the final exam results came out. Amidst the drifting smoke, his handsome face looked somewhat melancholy. Sitting in the booth, he struck a deep pose: “Chuan, you’re dead set on leaving me behind, making yourself someone I can’t reach. But this young master isn’t a pushover either; I’ll definitely catch up to you next year.”
Lu Yunchuan was on the side eating grilled king crab. He bit into a delicious claw and mumbled, “I’m not studying hard to ditch you. I’m doing it to prove something to myself.”
Huo Yanxiu’s gaze inadvertently flicked toward him. Seeing Lu Yunchuan’s hands covered in barbecue seasoning, he could only see the top of Lu Yunchuan’s head from his perspective, his soft black hair swaying slightly.
His rolled-up sleeves revealed half of a wrist that was dazzlingly white, with slender, beautiful fingers. Those hands also had a certain “feel” to them when they were hitting people. Huo Yanxiu’s throat hitched.
Lu Yunchuan was much fairer than before. Since he turned over a new leaf and stopped going out to fight or play basketball constantly, his skin had become much finer. He was already good-looking, but now he had a different kind of charm.
Huo Yanxiu’s heart throbbed unusually in his chest. His half-finished cigarette burned out, so he took out another one and bit it: “Too ambitious. It seems being a ‘fake young master’ really dealt you a heavy blow. Someone as smart as Fu Lingchuan worked his life away only to rank in the top fifty, on par with me. Yet you jumped straight to the top three. The Fu family must be looking at you in a whole new light.”
Lu Yunchuan merely curled his lips into a light smile: “Who cares about them? I’m paving the way for my own future, not trying to make them flatter me. Besides, I don’t need their flattery now.”
He had already decided to leave the Fu family’s support once he started university. In the future, even if he had nothing to do with the Fu family, he wouldn’t starve—because Fu Xici would take care of him.
As for how his “Big Brother” fared in the Fu family, it wasn’t his concern anymore. With his own limited wits, he wasn’t even qualified to carry Big Brother’s shoes, so he might as well focus his mind on studying.
After eating and drinking their fill, the group played some games. Lu Yunchuan didn’t dare to drink a drop. Fu Xici’s heart was currently smaller than the eye of a needle; if he went home drunk, who knows what Big Brother might do to him. So, he very obediently turned down all alcohol.
During a game of Truth or Dare, Huo Yanxiu took another chance to confess to him. Lu Yunchuan’s ears were practically growing callouses from hearing it; he told him to stop immediately. If Big Brother didn’t agree to this, it didn’t matter who came asking.
Huo Yanxiu told him that after the college entrance exams, he would personally go to convince Fu Xici to agree to their relationship.
Du Yunrui asked casually, “Chuan-ge, your seatmate seems to have a thing for you. I see you two whispering together after class all the time. Are you two dating? Have you kissed?”
Huo Yanxiu’s expression soured: “Yang Lulu? She knows Chuan is my man. She wouldn’t dare.”
Lu Yunchuan told them both to stop: “She and I have a purely revolutionary friendship. We help each other out. It’s not that complicated.”
Hearing this, Du Yunrui was delighted: “Then can Chuan-ge set us up? I actually quite like her; she has a good personality.”
Lu Yunchuan glared at him and threw a crab claw his way: “Don’t you dare ruin a good student. That little girl wants to go to Tsinghua University. You’re not qualified yet. Talk to me when you’ve caught up to her grades.”
Du Yunrui: “…”
Huo Yanxiu looked at Lu Yunchuan, his mind wandering. After finishing his cigarette, he sat closer to Lu Yunchuan and tried to put his arm around his shoulder, but Lu Yunchuan swatted it away.
Huo Yanxiu frowned: “What? I can’t even give you a hug?”
Lu Yunchuan kept his distance: “If you were straight, I wouldn’t mind. But aren’t you just trying to take advantage of me? Everyone knows your deal.”
Huo Yanxiu scratched the back of his head awkwardly: “You’ve finally become distant with me. Chuan, just let me kiss you once. I’ve lived this long and never experienced what a kiss feels like. Just do me this one favor.”
As he spoke, he leaned his face in to kiss Lu Yunchuan. Lu Yunchuan simply picked up the plate of melon seeds from the table and slammed it onto his face: “You’ve had a constant string of girls in your arms since middle school, and you’re telling me you’ve never kissed? Do I look like I’d believe that?”
The leftover seeds trickled down Huo Yanxiu’s face. He caught the fruit plate: “I really haven’t. When I was younger, it was just playing around; I didn’t have the guts. I never truly liked anyone. Now I truly like you. Please, just one kiss so I can taste it. You’ve never kissed anyone either, right?”
Hearing this, Lu Yunchuan let out a cold laugh. He and Fu Xici had nearly kissed their lips off; how could he have never kissed? But no one would ever know about that.
Lu Yunchuan didn’t bother discussing it further. He checked the watch on his wrist—the Patek Philippe that Fu Xici had given him. Huo Yanxiu’s sharp eyes caught it.
“Who gave you that watch? It’s the most basic Patek Philippe model, right? About two million.”
“My brother gave it to me. Is two million ‘cheap’? This is a sky-high price, okay?”
Huo Yanxiu shook his head and sighed: “It’s over. Our Chuan has truly escaped the ‘Young Master’ circle. He treats such a cheap watch like a treasure.”
Lu Yunchuan couldn’t explain it to these young masters: “Forget it, what do you ‘true’ young masters know? I have to go home.”
Huo Yanxiu wanted him to stay longer and grabbed his wrist: “What’s the rush? It’s still early, not even six o’clock.”
Brother is almost off work. I have to get back on time, or else with Big Brother’s temper, I don’t know how he’ll mess with me.
Lu Yunchuan pointed at his watch: “My brother gets home at 6:30. If he gets back and doesn’t see me, I’m finished.”
Huo Yanxiu didn’t understand: “Why are you so afraid of your brother? Isn’t he the person with the least presence in the Fu family?”
Lu Yunchuan couldn’t be bothered to explain. He couldn’t explain it anyway. Fu Xici’s personality was vastly different from his previous life. Sometimes, that hint of ruthlessness in Brother’s eyes made Lu Yunchuan feel dazed.
However, no matter what, Fu Xici was always different toward him. He tried his best to satisfy Lu Yunchuan’s every request and pampered him—except for the occasional times he went crazy and messed with him.
But Brother also knew this year was important for him, so he didn’t mess with him often. He would “go crazy” once a month on schedule, and after that, he’d turn back into a normal “Big Brother,” leaving early and returning late for work, and giving Lu Yunchuan a fixed monthly allowance.
As time passed, Lu Yunchuan’s meager allowance went from tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand per month. This meant Brother was starting to make real money. This kind of life—lying flat and being “taken care of”—was actually quite nice.
It really showed how important it was to have a family member who loved you.
Even though he and Fu Xici had kissed and touched, at the end of the day, he still saw Big Brother as family. This shift in identity couldn’t be adapted to overnight; he couldn’t quite see Big Brother as his boyfriend yet.
Lu Yunchuan thought self-deprecatingly: I curse Huo Yanxiu for being a “dead gay” every day, but it turns out I’ve turned gay faster than anyone.
And the person who turned him gay was none other than the “Big Brother” who everyone said pampered him so much: Fu Xici.
No one would ever imagine that in public they showed “brotherly respect,” but in private, they were kissing passionately.
Refusing Huo Yanxiu’s attempts to make him stay, he rushed back to shower and change. If Brother smelled smoke and alcohol on him the moment he walked in, something would definitely happen.
Lu Yunchuan had learned his lesson; he definitely wouldn’t let Fu Xici catch him “fooling around” with Huo Yanxiu. Big Brother treated Huo Yanxiu as a love rival and didn’t allow him to play with him.
Just as he finished showering, blow-drying his hair, and changing into pajamas, Brother walked in carrying groceries. After winter break started, the nanny had been sent back to the main Fu residence; it was just him and Fu Xici at home.
Lu Yunchuan was curled up on the sofa watching a movie and snacking on fruit. Seeing Big Brother return, he sensibly went up to take the ingredients from Fu Xici’s hands and brought them to the kitchen.
Fu Xici changed his shoes, washed his hands, and sat on the sofa for a bit. He beckoned for Lu Yunchuan to come over. Lu Yunchuan shook the water off his freshly washed hands and asked what was wrong. Fu Xici showed him a message from Fu Kaijiang.
Fu Kaijiang said: Your grandfather’s 80th birthday is the day after tomorrow. The ceremony must be grand; I’ve already had people start the decorations. The whole family is going to the old manor a day early. Bring Yunchuan with you. Remember to prepare a gift. Don’t act the same way you do toward me; you are the eldest grandson. Everyone with a connection will be there to offer their blessings. Don’t embarrass us again.
After reading it, Lu Yunchuan looked into Fu Xici’s deep eyes: “Grandpa is eighty; it really should be a big celebration. We need to prepare gifts.”
Fu Xici nodded: “Mm.”
But what should they give? Grandpa and Grandma didn’t lack anything. Being born into a wealthy family made gift-giving a technical skill.
Lu Yunchuan searched online for a long time but still didn’t know what to give. After dinner, he continued searching with a troubled face.
Seeing him sitting on the sofa flipping through his phone for so long, Fu Xici sent Lu Yunchuan a text.
The gift is about the thought. The two of us can give one gift together. I’ll take you to pick it out tomorrow.
Lu Yunchuan looked up at his brother’s deep eyes. “Is it okay for us to give one gift together?”
Fu Xici nodded: “It’s fine.”
So, the next day, Fu Xici didn’t go to work and took Lu Yunchuan to pick out a gift. They went to an antique shop and spent a high price on a piece of calligraphy and painting.
Lu Yunchuan then remembered that Grandpa liked collecting such things. Fu Xici was indeed meticulous—at least much more attentive than Lu Yunchuan.
The gift was bought. That evening, they set off early for the old manor. The Fu family manor was a pure Chinese-style architectural complex located within the Second Ring Road.
It was an ancestral manor passed down through generations. It wasn’t just “worth its weight in gold” it was something money couldn’t buy. This manor had been passed down for over two hundred years and was only given to each successive head of the Fu family.
Once the two elders passed away, the manor would belong to Fu Kaijiang, and then Fu Kaijiang would pass it to the next successor. As for who the next successor of the Fu family would be, no one knew.
Previously, everyone thought it would be Lu Yunchuan. Even if he was a useless hoodlum, he was the most pampered second son of the Fu family; the lion’s share of the inheritance would surely go to him.
But who knew that Lu Yunchuan wasn’t a biological Fu? Now that the biological young master had returned, the next successor would likely be this returned second son.
Jiang Yueyue had also repeatedly instructed Fu Lingchuan: “Grandpa and Grandma are the most authoritative figures in this family. You must flatter the two elders. Only then will your life be easier.”
In reality, Jiang Yueyue wanted to tell him that only by flattering the grandparents would his chances of becoming the successor be greater. But the two elders always valued the eldest son.
Before Lu Yunchuan’s identity as a fake young master was revealed, he had the grandparents wrapped around his finger. He would run to them whenever he could. This was also why the grandparents still protected him even after knowing he wasn’t biological.
Whenever Lu Yunchuan couldn’t stand the family treating Fu Xici poorly, he would go to Grandpa to complain: “Even if Big Brother is… slow, he’s still the biological child of the Fu family. Mom and Dad don’t care at all if he’s mistreated.”
Grandpa would take him fishing at the man-made lake and ask, “Then what are your thoughts? I don’t see you playing with your Big Brother often either.”
At this, Lu Yunchuan would pout: “Forget it. That face of Big Brother’s scares me. He doesn’t talk, and if he even looks at me, I start shaking.”
In truth, it was his guilty conscience at work. Because he used to stick to Fu Xici but later stopped going near him entirely, he felt like he was scared whenever Fu Xici looked at him.
Thinking back now, Big Brother was probably watching his every move at all times.
When Lu Yunchuan wasn’t around, Fu Xici also went to the grandparents often. Grandpa would tell him many things—about the Fu family, about Beijing’s elite circles, and about Lu Yunchuan…
Grandpa said: “Yunchuan might be a bit of a rascal, but he has no malice. He is the only one in this family who truly cares about you. Even if he becomes the successor in the future, he won’t mistreat you.”
Fu Xici understood in his heart. If Lu Yunchuan were the successor, he would have no objection. As long as his younger brother was ambitious and could carry the family’s destiny, that was enough.
But he never imagined this turn of events. In the end, a stranger came into the family and wanted to bypass him—the eldest son—and replace Lu Yunchuan’s position. Fu Xici would not allow it.
They arrived at the manor a night early. As soon as Lu Yunchuan entered, he went looking for Grandpa. The rest of the Fu family had arrived.
Fu Kaijiang wasn’t an only child; he had a younger brother and a sister who had married into a distant family. Everyone brought their families to celebrate the old man’s birthday. After all, when someone gets old, they have one year less every year; this 80th birthday was indeed grand.
Fu Lingchuan had already met his cousins and quickly hit it off with them.
Fu Xici led Lu Yunchuan through the gates of the ancestral manor. The old butler told them everyone was already there—a reminder for Lu Yunchuan and Fu Xici not to do anything they shouldn’t or say anything they shouldn’t.
Lu Yunchuan was nervous. When he was still the second son of the Fu family, he didn’t care about anyone. He had met his second uncle and aunt; they weren’t easy to deal with, but his status as the second son was there, so no one could say anything.
But now…
He instinctively grabbed the hem of Fu Xici’s black suit jacket. The scarf around his neck was almost falling off. Whether it was the chill of mid-winter or the fear of facing the Fu family, Lu Yunchuan’s hands were shaking.
Fu Xici felt it. He turned around to fix the scarf, then reached back and took that trembling hand into his own, leading him toward the main house.
Lu Yunchuan’s hand was icy cold, while Fu Xici’s hand was very warm. But… wouldn’t people misunderstand if they were like this?
Lu Yunchuan felt like an ant on a hot griddle, terrified that the family would discover some clue and expose the “unspeakable” relationship between him and Fu Xici.
He tried to shake off his brother’s hand, but Fu Xici’s hand paused for a moment, then he leaned down and grabbed it again. Lu Yunchuan dodged it.
Lu Yunchuan’s hair had grown a bit long; the wind blew his bangs, obscuring half his vision. He forced a smile: “We’re here. Watch your manners.”
The emotions in Fu Xici’s eyes were unclear. After looking at him for a few moments, he took a step with his long legs toward the stairs. His leather shoes made a crisp sound against the steps.
Xu Zhilin saw him and Lu Yunchuan and said to the large family group who were chatting: “The Eldest Young Master and Second Young Master are here.”
A group of gazes swept toward them. Lu Yunchuan’s heart tightened; he swallowed hard, truly afraid that everyone would mock and sneer at him. If it weren’t for Grandpa’s 80th birthday, he definitely wouldn’t have come…
While he was feeling anxious, Grandpa waved at them with a chuckle: “Xici and Yunchuan are here. Come over quickly. Your second uncle and aunt are here too; we were just talking about you two.”
Lu Yunchuan looked around. Aside from Grandpa and Grandma who were smiling, everyone else didn’t seem to welcome his or Fu Xici’s arrival.
He was still hesitating, thinking about how to fake a smile through the whole event, when Fu Xici suddenly turned and grabbed his hand, pulling him toward the crowd.
Ignoring everyone else, Big Brother led him to sit beside Grandpa, never letting go of his hand.
Everyone stared at their joined hands. Lu Yunchuan felt like needles were pricking his back. He tried to pull his hand out of his brother’s grip, but Fu Xici held on tight, having no intention of letting go.
Lu Yunchuan struggled twice, then finally greeted everyone politely: “Hello everyone. Hello Dad, Mom, Second Uncle, Aunt. Hello cousins…”
Since everyone knew he wasn’t the “true” young master anymore, they couldn’t be bothered to respond. His aunt said sarcastically, “You used to be so arrogant; now you’re quite polite. It seems once a person loses power, no matter how arrogant they were, they have to obediently act like a dog.”
Lu Yunchuan knew this moment would come and was prepared. He could still manage a smile: “Aunt’s skill at insulting people hasn’t diminished over the years. Whatever you say is right; as long as you’re happy.”
Jiang Yueyue, surprisingly, stood up for Lu Yunchuan this time: “He’s not completely useless. Yunchuan is studying very well now; even the teachers praise him.”
The aunt snorted coldly: “We all know what’s in his heart. In my opinion, since he’s not a Fu, he shouldn’t stay in the Fu family. Otherwise, people will say he’s staying just for the Fu family’s inheritance. Isn’t that right, ‘dear’ nephew?”
Lu Yunchuan was just about to smile and retort when Fu Xici suddenly said coldly, “Shut up.”
Big Brother’s eyes looked extremely impatient; his face, which commanded respect without needing to be angry, was filled with disgust.
For a moment, everyone around was startled. Lu Yunchuan’s hand shifted in Fu Xici’s palm. He thought to himself: You guys better be careful. If you anger Big Brother, don’t think you’ll get a single benefit in the future.
I’m not some simple foster son of the Fu family anymore. I am the palm-held treasure of the Fu family’s eldest son… his boyfriend.
