The Ultra-Alpha School Hunk Has Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Omega! - Chapter 27
Under Jiang Mosen’s disdainful gaze, Heixiong timidly withdrew his hand.
“I did not actually want to hold hands either, but I was scared!” Heixiong thought.
The atmosphere became slightly awkward. Ji Cenzhou sensed it immediately. To break the tension, he reached out his hand to Heixiong. “Hold mine instead. I do not mind.”
He actually understood Jiang Mosen quite well. As the male lead of a novel, how could he not have a bit of a personality? In the book, he was the image of a cold, celibate ascetic. Jiang Mosen had to remain pure for his cousin. If circumstances allowed, he would probably wear a sign declaring his chastity.
Heixiong was moved to the point of tears. He felt his new friend was incredibly kind, like an angel. He was just about to reach out when he saw Ji Cenzhou’s hand being pulled back by Jiang Mosen.
Heixiong was speechless. “Brother Jiang, if you keep bullying me like this, I am going to cry!”
Jiang Mosen stared at Heixiong with a look of condemnation for a moment before saying helplessly, “Take off that flannel shirt you are wearing and give it to me.”
Heixiong was wearing a black T-shirt underneath with a flannel shirt over it. He froze for a second, then, under Jiang Mosen’s urging gaze, he stripped off the flannel. Jiang Mosen took the shirt, looked at it with visible distaste, and tied it around his own waist. He then said to Heixiong, “Grab the hem of the shirt.”
Heixiong was at a loss for words. “Brother Jiang! You double-standard dog!”
Why did his buddy Ji get to hold hands while he only got to grab a shirt hem, and his own shirt at that? The more Heixiong thought about it, the more aggrieved he felt. He looked up at Ji Cenzhou, who was giving him a sympathetic expression, and suddenly felt at peace. His buddy Ji not only had the soul of an angel but also the face of one. If he were in Jiang Mosen’s shoes, he would probably do the same.
Having reached enlightenment, Heixiong pitifully grabbed the hem of the shirt. Two school bullies, who usually commanded respect and led legions of followers, had turned into two trembling quails in the haunted house, following piteously behind Jiang Mosen.
The two of them also had a talent for scaring themselves. At the slightest rustle of wind, they would collectively shudder or jump in fright. Ji Cenzhou turned back to comfort Heixiong. “Do not be afraid. We will be out soon. Everything here is fake. Plus, the Monitor is very reliable. If we run into a ghost, he will protect us.”
Heixiong suddenly felt a sense of kindred spirits in misfortune. He pumped his fist to encourage Ji Cenzhou. “Keep it up, brother!”
Ji Cenzhou encouraged him back. “You can do it! You are the bravest!”
Jiang Mosen said nothing. The corners of his mouth kept twitching upward at the antics of these two childish and cowardly guys. He had to hold it in for a long time to keep from laughing out loud.
After walking for a few minutes, a red light suddenly flickered ahead.
“Ah!” Ji Cenzhou and Heixiong screamed together.
Jiang Mosen remained silent.
“Holy crap! What on earth is that up ahead?” Ji Cenzhou yelled.
Heixiong began cursing incoherently in his terror.
Jiang Mosen frowned. “It looks like this is the only path. How about you two wait here for a moment while I go check it out?”
The two cowards shouted in unison, “No!”
Ji Cenzhou, likely having developed a habit of jumping, leaped onto Jiang Mosen without a second thought. Heixiong wanted to jump too, but Jiang Mosen’s death stare pinned him to the spot. Jiang Mosen patted Ji Cenzhou’s back to comfort him. “Alright, I will not go. We will go together.”
Ji Cenzhou sniffled and said, “It is a deal.”
Jiang Mosen looked at him with a smile. “Yes.”
Heixiong felt left out. For some reason, a song automatically started playing in his head about being the third wheel. He shook his head to get rid of the eerie song. Braving Jiang Mosen’s deadly gaze, he huddled a bit closer to his side. Jiang Mosen said nothing, tacitly allowing the movement.
Once his emotions stabilized, Ji Cenzhou got down from Jiang Mosen’s back, feeling embarrassed. He grabbed Jiang Mosen’s hand again and said, “Let us go take a look then.” He added, as if psyching himself up, “It is all fake. I am not afraid.”
Jiang Mosen smiled. “Then let us go.”
The three of them crept forward. Around the corner was a pitch-black room where they could not see their own hands. As they fumbled their way inside, the lights suddenly flashed on! A woman with long hair, wearing a white dress covered in blood, was suddenly hanging upside down right in front of them.
Jiang Mosen spun around and pulled Ji Cenzhou into his arms, using his body to shield the boy’s vision. Heixiong was the unlucky one. He came face-to-face with the female ghost and screamed as if he were dying.
Because Ji Cenzhou was hidden behind Jiang Mosen, he did not see the ghost. He asked curiously, “Why are you blocking me? And why is Heixiong screaming so tragically?”
Jiang Mosen said, “Do not open your eyes. There is a very terrifying female ghost in front of you.”
Although Ji Cenzhou had not seen it, he immediately imagined a ghost in his head. He huddled deeper into Jiang Mosen’s chest, clutching his clothes and shouting, “You cannot leave me!”
Jiang Mosen patted his back soothingly. “Do not be afraid. I will never leave you.”
Heixiong, who was next to them crying actual tears of terror, thought, “Have you two forgotten I exist?”
Jiang Mosen looked at the ghost still hanging in the air and said to Ji Cenzhou, “Do not look up. I am going to negotiate with the staff.”
Ji Cenzhou was too scared to even speak; he just nodded heavily.
“Hello,” Jiang Mosen said to the staff member.
“Hello,” the female ghost replied.
Jiang Mosen gave a polite smile. “I am sorry, but my friend here is extremely afraid of ghosts. Could you please stop scaring him?” Recalling that a previous staff member said scaring was their job, Jiang Mosen added, “How about you scare the guy next to me instead?”
Heixiong was horrified. “The guy next to you? That is me! I beg of you, Brother Jiang, just go back to ignoring my existence!”
The ghost looked at Heixiong. Seeing a big, sturdy guy reduced to a trembling quail, she felt a bit bad and tried to comfort him. “Sorry for scaring you.”
After saying that, she even patted Heixiong on the head. Feeling the icy temperature on his scalp, Heixiong almost rolled his eyes and fainted on the spot.
The three of them did not encounter any more ghosts after that and successfully exited the haunted house. When Ji Cenzhou and Heixiong saw the sunlight at the exit, they were moved to the point of tears, feeling as though their lives had been purified.
Wang Hao, being sharp-eyed, spotted them and waved. “Brother Jiang! Brother Ji! We are over here!” Then he muttered to himself, “Why are Brother Jiang and Brother Ji holding hands, and why is Heixiong with them?”
The three friends knew of Heixiong’s fierce reputation. Fearing that Ji Cenzhou and Jiang Mosen were being bullied, they hurried over. However, before they even got close, they heard Ji Cenzhou say to Heixiong, “We are out! We are finally out!”
Heixiong said emotionally, “This is the first time I have felt that sunlight is so warm and beautiful.”
As they talked, the two exchanged contact information and even made plans to play basketball together. They were as close as brothers who had just survived a life-and-death ordeal. After Heixiong left, Wang Hao said in a daze, “Brother Ji, did you just become best friends with Heixiong?”
Ji Cenzhou quickly cleared up the misunderstanding about Heixiong and added, “Heixiong is really my type of person. If we ever come back to a haunted house, we should invite him. He is the kind of person who can truly appreciate the thrill.”
Jiang Mosen held it in for a long time but finally could not help but chuckle. “Next time, the two of you can play together. Do not call me.”
Thinking back to everything that happened, Ji Cenzhou said hurriedly, “No way! Heixiong does not have to come, but you definitely have to be there!”
Jiang Mosen paused. He recalled the feeling of their fingers interlaced earlier. His voice lowered slightly as he said, “Alright. I will accompany you next time too.”
Li Tianrui checked the time. “We need to go, or we will be late!”
Wang Hao suddenly remembered they had serious business to attend to. “Right! Let us move. If we hit traffic, we will definitely be late!”
Fortunately, luck was on their side. They had a smooth trip to the hotel, and the private room was already half-full. Someone asked Wang Hao, “Ritian, are we drinking?”
“Yes! We are drinking! There are no teachers here, so why not?”
A crate of beer was brought to every table, one bottle for each person. Ji Cenzhou originally did not want to drink, fearing his mother would worry if he came home tipsy, but seeing everyone holding bottles, he did not want to ruin the mood and drank one bottle.
As the dishes were served, Ji Cenzhou used the serving chopsticks to pick up a pig’s trotter and put it in Jiang Mosen’s bowl. “Here, Brother Jiang, eat this to nourish your hands since you worked so hard.”
Jiang Mosen looked at the trotter in his bowl, unsure whether to laugh or be annoyed. “Ji Cenzhou, are you comparing my hands to pig’s feet?”
Ji Cenzhou quickly denied it. “I did not mean it like that! Is there not a saying that you should eat the part you want to nourish? I cannot exactly give you a human hand to eat, so a pig’s trotter is the next best thing.”
Jiang Mosen looked at the braised trotter. He usually did not eat them, but since Ji Cenzhou had given it to him, he tried a bite and found it tasted quite good.
Wang Hao raised his glass and said to Ji Cenzhou, “Brother Ji, a toast to you!”
Ji Cenzhou laughed. “Why are you toasting me?”
Wang Hao replied, “Because you got us a new physics teacher!”
Ji Cenzhou smiled. “It was not just my doing. Anyway, why talk about that today? Come on, let us go toast the Academic Representative.”
A group of boys charged toward the Academic Representative with their drinks. The Representative was completely startled by the sudden approach.
“Come on, let us wish our Academic Representative a happy eighteenth birthday!”
The whole class raised their glasses and shouted, “Happy eighteenth birthday, Academic Representative!”
As soon as they finished, the lights went out, and Li Tianrui entered carrying a cake. The candlelight illuminated everyone’s smiling faces as they scrambled to put a crown on the Academic Representative’s head and sang Happy Birthday together.
The Academic Representative looked at everyone, his eyes suddenly moistening. Aside from his family, no one had ever celebrated his birthday. Because he was always studying and did not play around with the other students, he gradually found himself without close friends. But in reality, he did not only want to study; he wanted friends too. He had simply been using his studies to mask his loneliness.
“Make a wish, Academic Representative!” Ji Cenzhou said.
The Academic Representative looked at the smiling faces around him, closed his eyes, and made a wish in his heart. He hoped he could spend his birthday with all of them again next year.
