The Ultra-Alpha School Hunk Has Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Omega! - Chapter 19
As the monthly exams approached, teachers of all subjects conducted pre-test quizzes to give students an idea of where they stood.
Liu Qi also held a quiz, but he had a particularly twisted habit: he enjoyed announcing students’ scores in front of the entire class. This made the students with poor grades feel as though they were dying.
After class began, Liu Qi entered with the grade sheet. He scanned the class with a look of immense disdain. “What is wrong with this class? Have you all given up on studying? The average score for this quiz is a full ten points lower than Class Three. Class Three has three perfect scores, while this class only has Jiang Mosen! With such a low level of difficulty, you still produced these pathetic scores. Do you even want to take the monthly exams?”
The classroom was deathly silent as everyone kept their heads bowed.
The more Liu Qi thought about it, the angrier he became. “Your grades are terrible, yet you cause so much trouble. You even dared to talk back to me in public. Was I wrong? Do you think you are in the right with these piece-of-trash scores?”
After speaking, he glanced at Ji Cenzhou and found him slumped over his desk. This was the spark that lit the powder keg.
“Ji Cenzhou, stand up!”
It took Ji Cenzhou a full five seconds to realize Liu Qi was calling him. His cold was getting worse. He had run a fever all night. That morning, Mother Ji had wanted to call in sick for him, but he stopped her. He remembered his bet with Liu Qi, and with the exams nearing, he felt he had to study more. Mother Ji had no choice but to watch him take his medicine and nag him with instructions before letting him go to school.
Facing Liu Qi’s rage, Ji Cenzhou explained mildly, “Teacher, I did not lean on the desk to ignore your lecture. I have a cold and I do not feel well.”
Liu Qi snorted dismissively. “Out of everyone in this school, you are the most delicate! How do I know you aren’t faking it? Don’t think I don’t know what kind of person you are!”
Ji Cenzhou felt a flash of anger, but he lacked the energy to explain further. He remained silent and simply stood there.
Seeing that Ji Cenzhou had stopped talking, Liu Qi said triumphantly, “I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? Your studies are mediocre, but you certainly have a lot of tricks. You’re quite the actor. Look at this quiz score: a ‘grand total’ of 35 points. I feel ashamed for you!”
Liu Qi then addressed the whole class. “In this quiz, there is one perfect score. Fourteen people scored above 90, twenty scored in the 80s, nine in the 70s, and twenty-seven in the 60s. There are three failures!” He emphasized the final words with a bite in his tone.
“When I call your name, come up and get your paper. Jiang Mosen, one hundred points.”
Jiang Mosen walked up and took his paper.
“Next, the 90s…”
Everyone was anxious, feeling as if their hearts were being tossed into a boiling pot of oil. Those who usually did well but underperformed turned pale when they didn’t hear their names in the 90s. Those with poor grades were too ashamed to lift their heads.
At first, Liu Qi’s tone was somewhat normal, but as he moved down the list, it became increasingly sarcastic. Toward the end, if a score was too low, he would mockingly add the phrase “grand total” to the points and glare at the students as they collected their papers.
He soon reached the end.
“Ji Cenzhou, a ‘grand total’ of 35 points. One of the three failures and the third from the bottom in the entire class. Hurry up and take your paper back. Stop making an exhibition of yourself here!”
Liu Qi’s words buzzed in Ji Cenzhou’s ears, making his headache even worse. He was exhausted to the point where he could barely keep his eyes open, yet Liu Qi forced him to walk to the front. Ji Cenzhou felt like a walking corpse, swaying as he went to grab his paper. He didn’t even look at Liu Qi as he returned to his seat.
Bai Yu was very worried. “Are you okay?”
Ji Cenzhou’s brain was a fog. It took him a few seconds to realize Bai Yu was speaking to him. Since he had been sick for several days, Bai Yu had been constantly worried. To put him at ease, Ji Cenzhou forced a smile. “I am fine, do not worry.”
This smile was caught by Liu Qi, who immediately exploded.
“Smiling! You still have the nerve to smile? Look at your paper; it is a sea of red. You even got the most basic knowledge wrong. I am asking you, do you really feel you belong here? And look at this handwriting. Could it be any messier? It looks like ghost scribbles. I am telling you plainly, if you want to stay in this school, stop giving me that attitude. People would think I am mistreating you! A cold? I am telling you, even if you are too sick to get out of bed, you had better be in this classroom listening to the lecture!” Liu Qi ranted.
Ji Cenzhou felt terrible physically and paid no attention to Liu Qi. Seeing him standing there with his head down, seemingly indifferent to anything being said, Liu Qi grew even more enraged. He felt the class lacked discipline and compared them unfavorably to his own students.
“The three people who failed, stand up! Let everyone see who you are!” Liu Qi roared.
Three seconds later, a boy with large glasses and a girl stood up. They kept their heads down. Failing was already painful enough, but being forced to stand up made their faces burn with shame.
Liu Qi walked over to them, picked up the boy’s paper, and frowned deeply. He looked at the long-form questions on the back and suddenly slammed the paper against the boy’s head.
“Do you have a brain? Is this where this formula is used? And is it used this way? The units are wrong, and the final data is wrong. I’m telling you, with these grades, you should just go home and farm. Stop embarrassing yourself here!”
The boy remained silent as the paper slid from his head to the desk. His face turned a deep red. His family lived in a rural area and was very poor. His sister had dropped out of school to work and support his education. He had been a high achiever, ranking in the top fifty of the city during the high school entrance exams, which got him into the First Middle School.
He clearly remembered his father getting drunk with joy when the admission letter arrived, saying, “Our family has suffered for generations, and finally, someone has made something of themselves. Study hard. I will sell everything I own to keep you in school!”
The boy thought of his father’s dirt-stained fingers and toes that could no longer be washed clean after years of labor. He thought of his dilapidated home, his mother’s body stooped from exhaustion, and his sister’s young face that was already marked by hardship. He had vowed to study hard.
But after entering high school, he realized he had been too optimistic. Because he was poor and looked like a “country bumpkin,” his classmates bullied him. When he told his homeroom teacher, the teacher looked at him with annoyance and said, “It is just students playing around. Why are you so small-minded?” Later, he understood the hidden meaning: those kids were from wealthy families, so what if they bullied someone from the countryside?
He couldn’t sleep well at night and had no time to study after class. His grades plummeted. He didn’t dare tell his parents and instead swallowed his bitterness. Sometimes he wondered if ending his life would be better, but he couldn’t do it because of the expectations of his family. He endured. In his new class during the second year, everyone was kind to him, but he had fallen too far behind to catch up quickly. That was why he failed the quiz.
Liu Qi looked at the shrinking boy with disdain before moving toward the girl. She was adjusting her bangs, which made him lose his temper entirely.
“Why are you messing with your hair? You’ve lost all face with these scores, yet you still have the heart to fix your hair. If you love beauty so much, you must be looking to get married! You young girls only care about looks, fixing your bangs and braiding your ponytails all day. What use is being pretty? People will just call you shallow. In my opinion, you should all cut your hair to ear-length so you can actually focus on your studies!”
The girl’s face flushed. She gathered her courage and stammered, “I… I fell off my bike a few days ago. There is a very ugly scar on my forehead. I didn’t do it on purpose. It was just an instinctive move. Teacher, I am sorry.”
Liu Qi snorted and sneered without mercy. “An instinctive move? Why isn’t studying your instinct? You love beauty so much; no wonder your grades look like this! And if you think fixing your bangs makes you pretty, let me give you some advice: with your looks, don’t waste your energy on your appearance. Study more so you have a future. Otherwise, with your base level, no amount of grooming will help you catch up to others.”
The girl was so humiliated she couldn’t lift her head, and even the tips of her ears turned red. Liu Qi was not the type to show pity. “You care about beauty, but with these scores, no one will ever want to marry you. Who would dare? It would ruin the genetics of the next generation! Your whole family would be a nest of idiots because of you. Idiots producing idiots—the whole family would be finished!”
The girl couldn’t hold it back anymore. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to suppress her sobs.
Liu Qi said heartlessly, “You have the nerve to cry? Am I wrong?” The girl’s sobbing grew quieter as she bit her lip hard.
Seeing that the two of them appeared repentant, Liu Qi wandered over to Ji Cenzhou. Seeing him standing with his head down and looking listless, Liu Qi felt he hadn’t reflected at all. Thinking about the incident with Wan Xu and the bet Ji Cenzhou had made, he began to curse.
“Look at you, acting like you don’t care about anything. A cold? Why are you so delicate? How can you get a cold in this temperature? Poor grades and a poor constitution. Tell me, what are you good for? You’re nothing but a smooth-talker. You say I’m wrong? Where am I wrong? Even if my words are harsh, isn’t it for your own good? Honest advice is hard to swallow but good for the soul. I’m telling you these things because I am responsible for you. Otherwise, why would I waste my time on you?”
Ji Cenzhou thought to himself, “Because you’re being paid.”
Jiang Mosen could no longer listen. He stood up and said, “Teacher, Ji Cenzhou really is sick.”
Bai Yu also whispered, “Yes, he has been sick for several days. Teacher, can you let him sit down? I can see he is suffering.”
Liu Qi gave a fake smile to his two top students and mocked, “Suffering? A cold is such a minor illness. How bad can it be? Who knows if he’s just faking it because he doesn’t want to stand. You two stay out of it. Let him stand; maybe he’ll recover faster. Also, don’t hang around him too much, or you’ll be influenced. I’ll tell Teacher Xu to change your seats. Jiang Mosen, your grades are stable, but Bai Yu, look at your sheet! Your score dropped by ten points compared to the start of the semester. You must have been affected by this piece of rat droppings, Ji Cenzhou!”
Bai Yu pouted, thinking to himself, “My score dropped because of you! Whenever I think about your class, I feel like I’m attending a funeral.”
After venting his anger and forcing all the students to bow their heads, Liu Qi finally felt better. He paced back to the podium. Half the class time had already passed. He wanted to explain the difficult questions on the quiz, but then he looked up and saw the three students still standing there.
His anger flared up again. He pointed at the three of them and said, “All three of you, get out! You don’t need to listen to this lesson. Wait until you have learned to reflect. Each of you must come to my office and tell me what you did wrong and what you plan to do in the future before you can return to my class!”
Being sent out to stand in the hallway was a deeply humiliating experience. The girl, being sensitive, began to cry again. she looked at Liu Qi pleadingly, but he remained unmoved. “Get out and stand there. Stop making an exhibition of yourself and ruining my mood!”
Ji Cenzhou was the first to walk out, and the other two followed.
Once outside, the boy kept his head down in silence while the girl continued to sob. Ji Cenzhou took a tissue from his pocket that he had brought earlier and handed it to her. “Are you okay?”
The girl took it and thanked him. She looked up at him and said through her tears, “Are you okay? Your face looks so pale.”
Ji Cenzhou’s body felt incredibly heavy. He leaned against the wall and forced a smile. “I am fine, I am just…”
He wanted to finish his sentence, but for some reason, he lost control of his body. He felt himself sinking, and the last thing he heard was the girl’s scream.
