The True Heiress And The Fake Heiress Ended Up Together - Chapter 8
Inside the school infirmary.
The warm sunlight filtered through the glass, illuminating the pristine white bed where Jian Ying’an lay, her eyes tightly shut. Her lips were pale, and her breathing was weak and pitiful.
Qin Mianmian sat by the bed, filled with guilt, knowing she had caused serious trouble.
The school doctor chattered endlessly: “This child has such a weak constitution; how could she engage in strenuous exercise? You all were too reckless!”
Shen Jin Yu clenched his jaw, feeling utterly resentful.
It was clearly her who said she could do it; what did it have to do with him? It was obviously her lack of self-control, yet she dragged him into being scolded! He hated Jian Ying’an to death!
The teacher quickly nodded in agreement.
In the blink of an eye, these students had caused such a ruckus—truly troublesome!
Yet, she couldn’t afford to offend either Qin Mianmian or Shen Jin Yu, and couldn’t even manage to chastise them, so she could only endure the school doctor’s fury herself.
The school doctor had every right to be angry.
Jian Ying’an was so light that the teacher hadn’t struggled much carrying her, which was evidence of how frail she was. A person who ought to have been meticulously cared for, was instead urged on by her classmates to carry another child up six flights of stairs.
Let alone a child, even an adult would find that exhausting.
Qin Mianmian’s voice was faint: “I’m sorry.”
It was all her fault for making Jian Ying’an do it. She was wrong.
The teacher looked at Qin Mianmian helplessly.
What does a child know? It was also her fault for not keeping a close watch and failing to stop it in time. Who could bear to blame Qin Mianmian?
She felt guiltier than anyone.
If only reversing the situation—carrying Jian Ying’an up three flights of stairs—could make her better, she would run up and down several times! Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible, and the teacher held her back strictly.
Qin Mianmian hung her head, presenting her dark little crown to everyone.
Shen Jin Yu couldn’t stand seeing Qin Mianmian said: “It’s not your fault, it’s all her own fault!”
At that, he was glared at by everyone present.
The school doctor didn’t make things difficult for the teacher: “Now we need to call the child’s parents to come and take her home to rest for a few days.”
This… the teacher was even more troubled. She didn’t know who Jian Ying’an’s parents were. Seeing the school doctor about to get angry again, she quickly made an excuse and slipped out.
The teacher could only call the butler and explain the entire situation.
The school doctor was checking Jian Ying’an’s body. Forget this being an elite school; even in an ordinary school, no child would be as weak as Jian Ying’an.
All her physical indicators were below standard; that she had grown this much was a miracle.
What were this child’s parents thinking?!
Suddenly, the school doctor looked at Qin Mianmian, who was guarding the bedside.
She was biting her fingers, her expression contrite, watching Jian Ying’an without moving. Towards the delicate and adorable Qin Mianmian, the school doctor softened his voice: “Is she your friend?”
Qin Mianmian shook her head: “No, she is my sister.”
Biological sister? Probably not—
Qin Mianmian clearly looked like a privileged young lady; the hair clip on her head was worth four figures. Compared to the frail Jian Ying’an, they hardly seemed like sisters.
The school doctor suddenly realized something: perhaps she was an adopted orphan.
He felt even more sorry for Jian Ying’an, sighing almost imperceptibly, and pulled a piece of chocolate from a drawer: “When she wakes up, remember to feed her this.”
“Okay.”
Shen Jin Yu wanted to stay with Qin Mianmian, but the school doctor shooed him away, so he had no choice but to return to class.
In her sleep, Jian Ying’an heard a soft call.
The person calling her was very gentle, their voice sweet—the nicest voice she had ever heard, like a little angel descending to earth.
She opened her eyes, still slightly dazed. Her hand moved slightly, and she realized someone was leaning on the bed. Jian Ying’an looked over: it was Qin Mianmian.
Qin Mianmian’s head rested by Jian Ying’an’s hand, deep in sleep, mumbling: “Please wake up, okay? I won’t make this mistake again next time…”
As she spoke, her tiny eyebrows furrowed, as if she were having a bad dream.
Jian Ying’an stroked her head.
Even she found it hard to imagine that the self-assured and proud Jian Ying’an would do something so reckless for someone.
It was too impulsive!
She even fainted in front of her classmates and was sent to the infirmary.
If the Qin couple found out…
Jian Ying’an guessed their reaction, which made her head ache. She just wanted to sleep a little longer, but she was a bit hungry, which kept her from sleeping.
The movement of adjusting her posture woke Qin Mianmian. She opened her eyes, still immersed in her recent dream.
Then she realized Jian Ying’an was awake. Remembering the doctor’s words, she took out the slightly melted chocolate and handed it to Jian Ying’an: “Eat the chocolate.”
Jian Ying’an silently began to eat.
Qin Mianmian apologized: “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have boasted.”
Jian Ying’an looked at her.
Qin Mianmian twisted her hands together: “I always wanted an omnipotent sister, and I fantasized about it for a long time. I confused things; Sister Jian isn’t a fantasy, she’s real.”
How could reality compare to fantasy? No six-year-old child could be all-knowing and all-powerful.
Her behavior of imposing her fantasy onto Jian Ying’an was wrong.
Qin Mianmian liked Jian Ying’an very much, and felt especially safe when she was around.
Jian Ying’an was the unique Jian Ying’an—the sister she had longed for and finally got.
Qin Mianmian: “I will protect Sister Jian too, and I won’t let her get hurt again.”
Jian Ying’an’s lips curved upward slowly.
Her Qin Mianmian was truly sensible.
The cutest Qin Mianmian in the world.
When the butler arrived at the infirmary, he saw the two children sharing a single piece of chocolate.
Jian Ying’an kept coaxing Qin Mianmian to take a bite, but Qin Mianmian pursed her lips, absolutely refusing, insisting that Jian Ying’an eat it to regain her strength.
Jian Ying’an said if you don’t eat, I won’t eat.
Qin Mianmian cautiously took a tiny bite, and Jian Ying’an smiled with her eyes, looking very close and affectionate.
The butler stood at the doorway, watching Jian Ying’an joyfully appreciate Qin Mianmian’s every move. That gaze, no matter how he looked at it, did not resemble the innocent companionship between children.
Jian Ying’an looked up, glanced at the silent butler, but did not speak.
The two looked at each other for a moment.
Qin Mianmian then noticed the butler and ran over: “Grandpa Butler, I was wrong!”
Her first sentence upon seeing him was an admission of guilt.
Although the butler was elderly, his figure was still tall and straight. He respectfully bowed: “Miss is not wrong.”
Jian Ying’an chuckled to herself.
Her sharp gaze was drawn by the laughter. Jian Ying’an looked back without restraint; even when she pretended, she was still the Jian Ying’an who liked to hold the initiative and was arrogant!
Regarding the butler’s gaze, Jian Ying’an smiled slightly: “Thank you for the trouble.”
The butler’s mouth twitched: “No trouble.”
He thought to himself, who exactly was that nanny, to be able to raise the current Jian Ying’an? This educational approach was probably more effective than most tutors in wealthy families.
To use her mind on switching children, what a waste of talent!
The butler had come to take Jian Ying’an home.
Given that Jian Ying’an was still not entirely favored by the Qin couple, the butler’s attitude was not overly respectful. Fortunately, Jian Ying’an was used to it and didn’t care.
Qin Mianmian clung to him, insisting on going back with them.
In the evening, Jian Ying’an ate several large bowls of rice. She needed to build up her body.
Fainting after carrying Qin Mianmian up three flights of stairs was something that would embarrass her for a lifetime. If she didn’t get healthy, how could she protect Qin Mianmian?
Ignoring the servants’ gazes at the rice bowl, Jian Ying’an ate heartily.
“What did you say?” Mr. Qin’s eyes were filled with anger when he heard the butler’s report.
She actually dared to faint at school, disgracing the Qin family!
If word got out, wouldn’t people misunderstand that the Qin family couldn’t even raise a child properly? Mr. Qin slammed his documents down heavily. He rested his chin on his raised hands, his gaze icy.
As the Qin family’s young lady, to be so useless—why not just drive her out and be done with it!
To spare her from continuing to be an embarrassment!
Mr. Qin: “Call her over!”
Mrs. Qin was the first to react, giving Mr. Qin a sideways glance: “What’s the use of venting your anger on her?”
Mr. Qin frowned, feeling dissatisfied with Jian Ying’an.
The couple had both overlooked Jian Ying’an’s small, frail body.
They just felt that what happened to Jian Ying’an was utterly inappropriate!
Mrs. Qin pondered, her red lips pressed into a thin line, exuding an air of coldness, unfeeling, and distant detachment. Mr. Qin beside her was also like this.
Mrs. Qin recalled the child’s sharp eyes, and how quickly they returned to calm when she realized she was being watched.
Tapping her arm with her fingers, Mrs. Qin came up with an idea: “Lai Bo, take her out tonight to buy some daily necessities.”
Mr. Qin was surprised: “What are you planning to do?”
Mrs. Qin’s eyes flashed with a faint light: “Jian Ying’an is our daughter.”
She stood up. The Qin family was wealthy and had a vast estate; raising one child was merely an incidental matter. As long as she could be well-trained, she would be a capable assistant for the Qin family, with a promising future.
Even if she wasn’t well-trained, it wasn’t a problem. However, Mrs. Qin didn’t believe Jian Ying’an had no ambition towards the Qin family.
As long as she had even a little bit of ambition, she could definitely climb her way up with that ruthlessness!
Mrs. Qin: “I don’t want the servants to neglect my child again. I want them to realize that Jian Ying’an is also a member of the Qin family!”
Mr. Qin’s face turned completely dark.
“Are you looking highly upon Jian Ying’an?”
“She has the Qin family blood flowing in her veins!”
Mrs. Qin walked out, taking a photo to look at.
The photo showed Jian Ying’an before she was brought home. She looked like a little pitiful thing, panicked when facing the camera, fearful of her future.
This had made the Qin couple very unhappy: this was their child, flowing with their blood?
Mrs. Qin took out another photo, one taken by a private investigator, showing Jian Ying’an in a normal state.
Calm and confident, with an arrogance in her eyes that feared nothing.
Mrs. Qin curved her lips in satisfaction. She didn’t care what Jian Ying’an was like; she only needed to know that Jian Ying’an was their child, belonging to the Qin family.
She could never escape the Qin family.
Thinking this, Mrs. Qin felt a slight desire to see Qin Mianmian.
Qin Mianmian was practicing the piano. She wasn’t tall enough yet, barely reaching the keys, and her hands were small, making the piece sound hesitant and fragmented.
Her little head swayed with the music, amusing the piano teacher, who was smiling broadly. Seeing the teacher smile, Qin Mianmian also smiled, her eyes as bright as a starry sky.
After finishing the piece, Qin Mianmian sought praise: “Teacher, did I play well?”
The teacher’s tone was gentle: “Of course, you did!”
For a six-year-old child, encouragement was the main approach.
Mrs. Qin walked into the music room. When Qin Mianmian saw her, she ran over from the piano: “Mommy!”
“I’m here.”
Mrs. Qin picked up Qin Mianmian: “How is Mianmian’s piano practice going?”
Qin Mianmian looked up: “The teacher is praising me!”
“Is that so—”
Mrs. Qin glanced at the piano teacher, then retracted her gaze: “Mianmian is so good.”
Qin Mianmian: “Mommy, Sister is not feeling well. Can I leave class early to accompany her later?”
Mrs. Qin’s smile faded slightly.
“Of course, you can. Would you like your sister to practice the piano with you?”
