The True Heiress And The Fake Heiress Ended Up Together - Chapter 38
A month after school started.
It had rained a few times during this period, and the air carried a hint of coolness. The students who had been tanned during military training successfully regained their fair skin during this time.
White school uniforms and corridors echoing with laughter and playful noises.
Li Dong’s personality was much more outgoing compared to when she was little, and she had successfully made a few friends over the past month.
But she still liked to hover around the two of them.
She yawned, “We’re electing the class monitor in the afternoon class meeting. Are either of you interested?”
Jian Ying’an was working on an exercise book. She had a lot to do after school when she returned to the dorm: washing clothes, cleaning… and she also had to find time to take care of Qin Mianmian.
Qin Mianmian was also yawning. Rainy days were too suitable for sleeping.
Class monitor? Jian Ying’an wasn’t interested.
She turned a page in the exercise book. The exercises she had done before were very simple to review, so she worked quickly.
Qin Mianmian said lazily, “I am.”
Li Dong, “Who is?”
Qin Mianmian, “…Me.”
Li Dong, “Who?”
She widened her eyes to look at Qin Mianmian, suspecting she had misheard, or perhaps Qin Mianmian was answering for Jian Ying’an.
Jian Ying’an as class monitor: reliable. Qin Mianmian as class monitor: unreliable!
Very unreliable, actually!
Qin Mianmian perked up, and the more she talked, the more energetic she became. She raised her chin, “I said I want to be the class monitor. I want to manage Jie-jie (Sister)!”
Jian Ying’an’s hand, which was doing the exercise book, paused and drew a long line.
Jian Ying’an, “…”
She erased the line expressionlessly.
Qin Mianmian was a little excited, “It’s always been Jiejie taking care of me, and I want to take care of Jiejie too!”
Li Dong’s head was full of question marks, “But this is the class monitor! The one who manages a whole class! You can’t just care about Jiejie and ignore the other students!”
Qin Mianmian tilted her head, practically saying: What does that have to do with me?
Li Dong quietly rolled her eyes and said to Jian Ying’an, who was working on her exercise book, “Aren’t you going to do anything about this!”
“Besides, I want to be the class monitor too! This might be my highlight moment in life, and I definitely can’t miss it!”
Qin Mianmian, “No, I must be the class monitor!”
She was extremely insistent on the position of class monitor.
Insistently to an absurd degree.
Jian Ying’an closed her exercise book and interrupted the two, “I’ll be the class monitor.”
Li Dong’s hopes were dashed. She started to back down, thinking that the academic committee member wasn’t bad, responsible for collecting homework, quite comfortable. But she still asked, “Have you been a class monitor before?”
Jian Ying’an said calmly, “I have experience.”
She had managed a company’s worth of people; she didn’t believe she couldn’t manage a bunch of teenagers.
Li Dong completely gave up, “Alright then, just remember to vote for me when I run for academic committee member.”
Qin Mianmian hadn’t given up. She said clearly, word by word, “I want to be the class monitor!”
The words were practically written across her forehead.
I want to manage Jiejie!
Jian Ying’an scoffed, putting the exercise book into her desk, deciding to settle some old scores.
“How many small cakes of mine have you eaten?”
“Do you still want to eat lobster?”
“I wash the clothes in the dorm, I do the cleaning, I’m the one who urges you to do homework, and I’m the one who wakes you up.”
“Are you sure—you want to manage me?”
That would be chaos.
Jian Ying’an tapped the desk, stood up, and called out to the noisy class, “Quiet.”
The class quieted down.
Everyone turned to look at Jian Ying’an, who had a cold demeanor and gave off an aura that if she were to lead the class out for a fight, they certainly wouldn’t lose.
Jian Ying’an, “Please vote for me in the afternoon class meeting. I want to be the class monitor.”
Qin Mianmian stood up with her, “Vote for me, vote for me! I want to be the class monitor! I absolutely won’t manage any of you, giving you all freedom. Let me be the class monitor!”
Li Dong looked up at them, and upon hearing Qin Mianmian’s words, let out a long gasp of astonishment.
She was really going to compete with Jian Ying’an; she had guts.
Of course, you won’t manage them, you just want to manage your Jie-jie.
Li Dong sincerely hoped Jian Ying’an could manage her own child, and joined the fun, “I don’t have aspirations as high as the two of them. Uh, vote for me for academic committee member.”
The students exchanged glances.
They were in junior high. Did people still want to be class monitor? Hadn’t they grown up yet?
Jian Ying’an sneered when she heard Qin Mianmian’s words.
At lunchtime.
Because the school cafeteria food wasn’t good, most people found ways to privately improve their meals.
Originally, the Qin family was going to have servants deliver meals, but Qin Mianmian didn’t want that. She wanted to follow Jian Ying’an and eat the food Jian Ying’an made.
It was impossible to clear out another room in the dorm to turn into a kitchen.
But the dorm didn’t prohibit Qin Mianmian and Jian Ying’an from using electric appliances!
So, lunch was made by Jian Ying’an. She was right; she was the one taking care of Qin Mianmian.
As a guardian, Jian Ying’an felt that a disobedient child should be starved for a meal.
She was eating, and Qin Mianmian was watching eagerly.
Li Dong even felt pity for Qin Mianmian, “Are you really not going to let her eat?”
Jian Ying’an said faintly, “She wants to manage me, so let her manage her own lunch first.”
Qin Mianmian said weakly, “Jie-jie, I was wrong. Jie-jie, I’m hungry.”
Jian Ying’an looked up, “Still want to be the class monitor?”
Qin Mianmian, “Yes.”
Li Dong silently focused on her meal. This kind of situation was something you just watched; eventually, someone would give in, giving in without any bottom line. She just needed to enjoy the spectacle.
She was referring to Jian Ying’an.
There were still over ten minutes until the end of the lunch break.
The food was going to get cold.
Jian Ying’an closed her lunchbox, and seeing Qin Mianmian still watching with anticipation, she pretended not to know where the lunchbox was, giving Qin Mianmian a chance to take the lunchbox and eat.
So, when the students returned to the classroom, they saw the Qin family’s young lady eating.
She ate elegantly, like a kitten.
After eating to her heart’s content, Qin Mianmian continued to make a fuss.
During the class meeting, when the teacher mentioned that a month had passed and the students had gotten to know each other well, and surely had a class monitor candidate in mind, Qin Mianmian raised her hand and shouted, “Me!”
The teacher was the class homeroom teacher, a woman in her thirties wearing glasses.
Hearing Qin Mianmian self-nominate, she said “Oh” and turned around to write on the blackboard: “Jian Ying’an – one vote.”
Laughter erupted below.
Qin Mianmian was anxious, “Teacher! I want to be the class monitor!”
I wasn’t asking to vote for Jiejie!
The teacher looked at Qin Mianmian in surprise and asked Jian Ying’an, “Is she feeling unwell?”
The Qin Mianmian who always stuck to Jian Ying’an, calling her Jie-jie everywhere she went, saying Jiejie was the best, Jiejie was amazing, that she liked Jiejie the most, and treated Jian Ying’an like a god.
She was actually trying to rebel?
Even the teacher couldn’t believe it.
Jian Ying’an scoffed, folding her arms, “She wants to be.”
The teacher wrote down Qin Mianmian’s name.
Jian Ying’an stood up, “Teacher, I’m nominating myself.”
The teacher wrote down Jian Ying’an’s name again.
Qin Mianmian’s and Jian Ying’an’s names were next to each other, with no votes yet.
It started raining outside again. The teacher glanced out the window, asked the student by the window to close it, and then said amidst the pattering rain, “Please select the class monitor you have in mind.”
Qin Mianmian and Jian Ying’an each had their merits.
One was cute and claimed she wouldn’t manage them, suggesting that having her as class monitor would be fun.
The other… was very suitable to be the class monitor.
Jian Ying’an was very reliable, as could be seen from the little things she did to take care of Qin Mianmian. She was meticulous and steady. When the rain first started, she was the first to pull out an umbrella.
Then she handed the umbrella to Qin Mianmian.
She was like the handsome butler in a novel, who was responsible for taking care of the young lady, capable of anything.
Just seeing that made the girls blush and their hearts pound, leading to all sorts of fantasies. They couldn’t help but think about Jian Ying’an before falling asleep at night, which is when they slept soundly.
If it weren’t for Jian Ying’an and Qin Mianmian being inseparable.
See who would win the class beauty selection!
Jian Ying’an was beautiful!
She was also responsible, handsome, and smart. With her around, even reading romance novels felt dull.
Those foolish, arrogant male leads couldn’t compare to Jian Ying’an.
So, the students looked at Qin Mianmian’s name, then looked at Jian Ying’an’s, and their minds were made up.
The teacher quickly collected the votes, and she opened the slips of paper.
“Jian Ying’an – one vote.”
“Qin Mianmian – one vote.”
“Jian Ying’an…”
“Qin Mianmian…”
Even though students were not allowed to talk during the voting, the votes were surprisingly evenly split. The teacher wrote several tally marks next to both names to count the votes.
Qin Mianmian watched the blackboard with anticipation, trying to overtake the lead.
Jian Ying’an was twirling her pen, devoid of worldly desires.
She wasn’t curious about the result at all and had started to let her mind wander.
Only the last vote remained.
As the students worried about an upset, the teacher opened the slip. The Qin Mianmian below was extremely nervous, crossing her hands and praying that the vote would be hers.
The teacher looked at the three big words on the slip: “Jian Ying’an.”
Qin Mianmian was crestfallen.
Darn it, I lost. I can’t manage Jie-jie.
The students breathed a sigh of relief.
The teacher, “Alright, the class monitor is confirmed to be Jian Ying’an. Next, we will elect the academic committee member…”
After class, students came up to Jian Ying’an, “Congratulations, Class Monitor~”
“Class Monitor, if anything happens in the future, could you be a little lenient?”
“Student Jian! Good luck!”
Qin Mianmian watched jealously as they surrounded Jie-jie.
Darn it, I was only one vote short.
She also wanted to try to take care of Jiejie; she didn’t want to be a little useless person! Qin Mianmian turned her head away, trying not to look at Jian Ying’an. The more she looked, the angrier she got.
The rain stopped.
Jian Ying’an politely thanked them, then looked at Qin Mianmian.
Her eyes looked as if they had been washed by the rain, clean as if they were electrified, and along with the last few drops of rain, they dropped into Qin Mianmian’s heart.
Qin Mianmian suddenly felt weak, forgot her anger, and became Jian Ying’an’s little obedient girl again.
Jian Ying’an, “Let’s go back.”
Qin Mianmian covered her face, “Okay.”
They stepped on the wet ground and returned to the dorm.
Because of the coolness of the past few days, Jian Ying’an didn’t turn on the air conditioner. It was still a little warm when they first got back to the dorm. Qin Mianmian changed her clothes and lay on the bed.
She covered her face with a blanket.
I love Jiejie so much.
Qin Mianmian poked her eyes out from under the blanket, “Jiejie, you are the class monitor now.”
Jian Ying’an was washing rice, “Mhm.”
Qin Mianmian, “You have to manage me.”
Jian Ying’an, who was cooking, “When have I not managed you?”
Qin Mianmian smiled contentedly. Yes, Jie-jie would never abandon her.
Jiejie would say, Let’s go, I’ll take you to eat, when she wanted a small cake.
Jiejie would say, No need to practice, when she didn’t want to practice the piano.
Jiejie protected her and spoiled her.
Before the age of six, Qin Mianmian only grew up according to Madam Qin’s requirements, becoming the Qin family’s young lady in her mind.
Now, she was just Jian Ying’an’s Qin Mianmian.
Qin Mianmian rolled over on the bed, then got up to help Jian Ying’an cook. Because the air in the dorm was not circulating, the window was opened to prevent the smell of cooking oil fumes from lingering.
The wind after the rain was exceptionally cool.
Qin Mianmian, “Jiejie, I’ll help you wash the vegetables.”
Even if she wasn’t the class monitor, she would try to help Jie-jie.
Until Jian Ying’an chased her away, “Tell me, how did you manage to shred the vegetables while washing them?”
“That’s how you wash them clean, right!”
Qin Mianmian hugged her pillow, feeling wronged.
