The Tragic Heroine Fell in Love with Me - Chapter 55
“Boss, isn’t it inappropriate for you to keep deceiving Miss Xiao like this?”
Li Ailun’s voice came through the computer. At that moment, Li Ailun was sitting upright by his computer, reporting his work progress to Zheng Qi.
“Are you that free?”
Li Ailun chuckled. “Boss, you’re such a joker. Ever since returning to France, I haven’t even had time to read novels, how could I possibly be free?”
“Hmm.” Zheng Qi responded indifferently.
Li Ailun muttered under his breath, “So cold. After all, I’m a hardworking employee. Ah, I really wish Miss Xiao could see you like this. Then…”
He didn’t dare continue, but these were words he only dared whisper in private. If he were actually facing Xiao San, he would only sing Zheng Qi’s praises.
What could he do? He was just an employee workers have no rights.
“The ones trying to seize the family assets have quieted down. France has been very peaceful lately, Boss. You can focus on nurturing your relationship with Miss Xiao back home without worrying about matters in France.”
Li Ailun said.
“Is that so? Then how come I heard that Mond has gone missing?”
“Oh, Boss, you’re truly strategizing from a thousand miles away. You even know about such a small matter. But don’t worry, I absolutely won’t let Mond escape!” While speaking in a cutesy tone, a scene of bloody chaos unfolded before Li Ailun.
Through the camera feed, the brutal clashes between mafia factions were broadcast right in front of Zheng Qi.
All in all, Zheng Qi had only taken over the Helge family for a little over a year, yet with his swift and decisive methods, he had eliminated all opposing forces.
Despite being a foreigner, he had become the actual ruler whom the Helge family feared at the mere mention of his name.
“Boss, the Count hopes you can return for a few days soon. After all, he misses you very much.” Li Ailun seized the opportunity to put in a good word for someone.
“Let him look at photos. Isn’t that what he likes doing most?”
“Boss, you’re so heartless. The Count doesn’t have many years left, after all. Even for the sake of a sick person, you should come back to see him a few times, right?” Li Ailun whined tearfully.
Zheng Qi replied, “Just tell him it’s for his own good. I’m afraid if I go back, he’ll be so overjoyed he might die.”
“Boss!”
Before Li Ailun could finish, Zheng Qi had already shut down the computer.
Li Ailun had no choice but to turn off his phone.
Once the phone was off, all traces of his earlier playful expression vanished from Li Ailun’s face. As France’s notorious cold-blooded killer, he wasn’t gentle with just anyone.
Xiao San returned to her room, about to send a message to Li Ailun, when she received an unexpected call.
It was from Mond Helge.
Earlier, Xiao San had discovered that many phone numbers that shouldn’t have been in her phone’s blocklist had appeared there, one of them was Mond Helge’s number.
Mond Helge was one of the exchange students who had come to the country back then. At the time, Mond had shown unusual enthusiasm toward Xiao San.
He had even specifically exchanged phone numbers with her, though in the following years, neither had contacted the other.
Unexpectedly, Mond had reached out to Xiao San now.
Xiao San stared at her phone, hesitating for a moment before finally deciding to answer the call.
“Thank God, you’re the only one I can turn to for help. Thank God, thank you for answering my call.” Over the years, Mond Helge’s Mandarin had improved significantly; he no longer spoke in such broken phrases.
“What?”
“Dear Xiao San, you must help me. Please don’t tell anyone. You’re the only one I can rely on. I’m being hunted right now. If I’m caught, I’ll definitely be killed. My dear, you’re the only person I trust.”
Listening to Mond Helge’s frantic voice on the phone, Xiao San glanced at her phone in confusion, then looked around her surroundings. Could this really involve a life-or-death chase?
Ah, right.
In the original storyline, the female lead had gone abroad for a period and became involved with some powerful family. She vaguely remembered something about the mafia and some earl’s family, but couldn’t recall the specific plot details.
This must be related to that part of the storyline.
But had the plot advanced ahead of schedule?
Xiao San didn’t want to get entangled in this kind of plot.
Zheng Qi had already broken free from the original storyline, and their lives were peaceful now. There was absolutely no need for her to get involved in such situations.
“I…”
Xiao San had just started speaking when the voice on the other end continued, “I’m already in the country. As long as I’m not discovered, as long as I can lay low for a while, I’ll be able to make a comeback.”
Xiao San covered her eyes.
She must have been crazy to think Mond Helge had improved his Mandarin. What did he mean by “make a comeback”? Was he some kind of bandit?
“Please, dear San, you’re my only hope. You’re completely unrelated to this matter. Only you they would never expect me to turn to you.”
Xiao San asked, “Why don’t you go to Shen Lin? Isn’t he your good friend?”
Mond Helge let out a mournful cry, “I can’t! In this situation. I can only tell you that Shen Lin is on their side. Only I’m on my own side.”
Mond Helge kept pleading, his desperation beginning to soften Xiao San’s heart.
“Please, just let me stay for one week. If I can survive this week, I’ll be able to gather my motley crew. We’ll definitely make them pay.”
Xiao San replied, “I hope your motley crew proves useful.”
“You agreed, you agreed!!!” Mond Helge shouted excitedly, “Thank you so much!”
“Hey, when did I say I agreed? I have a roommate too. Hey, hey,Hello?”
The call had already ended.
Xiao San tried calling back, but the number was no longer in service.
“Seriously? Does this guy use disposable phone numbers?” Xiao San stared at her phone in disbelief. “Does he even know where I live?”
This question lingered in Xiao San’s mind, but since she couldn’t reach Mond and he seemed to be already on his way, she had to consider the possibility.
Was there no such thing as privacy in this novel world?
Even though she was reluctant, Xiao San sensed that Mond probably did know where she lived. If he didn’t show up, that would be fine. But if he did, she would have to talk to Zheng Qi about it.
She’d bring it up tomorrow morning.
Xiao San closed her eyes. Though her mind was troubled, leading to random thoughts, the day had been so exhausting that as soon as her head hit the pillow, she fell into a deep sleep.
While she was wandering in the sweet darkness of her dreams, she suddenly heard loud sounds of a struggle.
Xiao San struggled to open her eyes. At first, she thought hazily that she was still dreaming. But as she became more alert and clearly heard the sounds of a fight coming from the living room, she realized it probably wasn’t a dream.
She quickly got out of bed, grabbed the self-defense stick from the corner, and walked out after opening the door.
She had no idea what time it was whether it was early morning or not but it was still dark outside. The lights from the building in the distance were dazzlingly bright. Apart from the sounds of the struggle in the living room, everything else was quiet.
Xiao San tiptoed into the living room, fumbled for the light switch, and with a snap, turned it on.
Holding the stick defensively in front of her, the sudden light made the two people fighting in the living room stop and cover their eyes.
The intense brightness blinded Xiao San for a moment. When her vision cleared and she saw the scene before her, she instantly exploded with anger.
The entire living room was in chaos; even the TV had been kicked and shattered.
Zheng Qi, wearing pajamas, was holding someone by the foot. The person being held was in an upside-down position, supporting themselves with one hand on the ground while covering their eyes with the other.
Xiao San stared at the somewhat familiar face, though it was currently hanging upside down.
“Dear San, save me!”
Hearing the voice, Xiao San immediately recognized him.
Wasn’t this Mond Helge, the one who had called earlier saying he wanted to stay at her place for a few nights?
“Ah Qi, are you okay?” With the danger gone, Xiao San quickly put down the stick and walked over to Zheng Qi, carefully examining her.
After the fight, Zheng Qi didn’t seem to be seriously injured, just a few scratches on her face.
“Ah, I’ll get a bandage, iodine. oh right, the first aid kit.” Saying this, Xiao San hurriedly rummaged through the cabinet, finally found the first aid kit, and brought it out. She noticed that Zheng Qi and Mond Helge were still in the same positions.
Xiao San apologized, “Ah Qi, this is an old classmate of mine. Could you maybe let him go first?”
Zheng Qi eyed Mond Helge warily. “An old classmate? How come I didn’t know you had a classmate like this?”
“This is that exchange student from our school, Mond Helge. I told you about him before he’s even a noble from F Country.”
Zheng Qi tightened her grip.
“Ah, let go, let go!” Mond Helge released both hands. Nearly 1.9 meters tall and being held upside down by Zheng Qi, he had to tilt his head to keep himself somewhat upright.
“Ah Qi!” Xiao San looked worriedly at Mond Helge, afraid he might actually get hurt.
Zheng Qi released her grip. With a thud, Mond fell to the floor.
Mond looked pitifully at Xiao San. “Dear San, do you know how much I’ve missed you? In this world, only you are pure.”
Xiao San rolled her eyes at Mond. In her understanding, what he probably meant was that she was the only one naive enough.
Xiao San walked up to Zheng Qi and applied iodine to his wound.
“I’m the one who got hurt. I finally made it here, only to be beaten up by this woman. You don’t even care about me you only care about her. You’re really someone who changes their affections at the drop of a hat,” Mond Helge said.
Xiao San replied, “How did you even get into my house? I haven’t even settled that with you yet. I never agreed to let you come here. In our country, this kind of behavior could land you in a police station. In your place, I could beat you to death and it wouldn’t even be against the law.”
How dare he complain about Ah Qi? He’s the one who hurt Ah Qi. “Thankfully, Ah Qi is tough, or he would’ve been injured even worse. If that had happened, don’t even think about staying at my place we’d be enemies from then on.”
“Ah!” Mond covered his face and lay on the ground, looking utterly defeated.
