The Tough Guy Forced To Become The Broodmother - Chapter 6
Chapter 3: Physical Mutation
The giant python didn’t seem particularly hungry. Its lightbulb-like eyes rolled around in their sockets as if it were contemplating something.
It flicked its forked tongue, tasting the sweet scent lingering in the air. Then, it began to pursue Luo Jia at a leisurely pace. Whenever Luo Jia gained distance, it would speed up; whenever he slowed down, it followed slowly.
Luo Jia realized the python seemed to be enjoying the thrill of the hunt.
Damn it! Luo Jia felt a surge of despair. If you’re going to eat me, just do it already so I can give up and die!
At a fork in the path, Luo Jia spotted a small trail leading out of the forest. He immediately sprinted toward it.
The python’s pupils constricted. It lunged forward, cutting off Luo Jia’s path. It reared its body high, looming over him from above.
This thing has to be at least two meters tall!
Luo Jia looked up at it, his legs trembling. “Brother Python… you never mentioned you were this big!”
He turned to run, but the python lunged. It coiled around his legs, tripping him, and then constricted its massive body around him.
The icy coils began to crush the life out of the prey. Luo Jia couldn’t move his body; only his hands were free, clawing desperately at the scales. The only result was the coils tightening further.
Luo Jia felt his body being compressed. He could already imagine his bones shattering before being swallowed whole by this giant beast.
He lost consciousness.
When his eyes snapped open again, the pure black irises were stained a vibrant gold.
Facing the giant python, there was only cold, predatory greed in his eyes. His gaze locked onto the python’s Beast Core.
Sensing danger, the python tried to finish him off with a final crush.
Luo Jia’s reflexes were faster. His hands, now covered in scales, tore through the python’s hide and ripped the core straight out of its body.
In a final death throes, the python unhinged its blood-red maw and lunged for Luo Jia’s head.
“Heh.” Luo Jia let out a soft, chilling laugh. He reached out, grabbed the python’s jaws, and wrenched them apart. The snake’s head was instantly torn in two, blood spraying across the ground like a torrential downpour.
Standing in his cloak, Luo Jia remained untouched by a single drop of blood.
The python was dead. Luo Jia looked at the Beast Core with a hint of disdain—it was small, but better than nothing. He tossed it into his mouth; it crunched between his teeth like a piece of rock candy.
Still hungry, Luo Jia simply tore open the snake’s skin and began devouring its flesh. The fresh blood made his beautiful face look terrifyingly feral.
Other mutated beasts, drawn by the scent of blood, began to gather. Luo Jia stopped eating and bared his teeth, scanning the intruders with a cold glare. The beasts that had intended to scavenge quickly slunk away; they instinctively sensed that this “prey” was not something they could share.
Soon, the energy within the python’s meat was entirely consumed, finally giving him a comfortable sense of fullness.
Suddenly, the roar of machinery echoed from the sky.
Luo Jia looked up. He saw a massive sphere of light hurtling directly toward his position.
Luo Jia made a split-second judgment. He dropped the remaining snake meat and lunged to the side to take cover.
The sphere crashed down too fast. Even though he evaded a direct hit, the shockwave from the impact slammed him into the ground. The leftover snake meat was instantly vaporized by the energy of the crash.
Debris whistled past his face, and a swathe of trees was leveled. The resulting gale sent Luo Jia rolling across the ground several times until he slammed into a tree.
Luo Jia crawled up from the ground, his face full of confusion.
What happened? Why does it feel like I’m missing a chunk of my memory? Clutching his head and holding his aching waist, he stood up, wincing in pain.
Not far away sat a massive mechanical sphere! Luo Jia stared at the object in awe—a metal orb nearly two meters tall, looking like something straight out of a high-tech sci-fi movie. Electrical sparks flickered across its surface.
Luo Jia noticed the python was gone; he assumed the metal ball had scared it off.
He brushed the dirt and twigs off his clothes and cautiously approached. The electricity on the sphere died down, and a door hissed open.
A large hand gripped the edge of the doorway.
Terrified, Luo Jia ducked behind a tree.
A man wearing a black, form-fitting combat suit crawled out of the sphere. Leaning against the orb, he tapped a control on his waist. The black visor on his head retracted, revealing his face.
He was a strikingly handsome man.
