The Top-Tier Enigma’s Alpha is Both Pampered and Wild - Chapter 5
Grandfather Yan’s eyes rolled so far back they nearly disappeared.
Pointing at Yan Chi, he complained to Lu Yubai, “Wash, wash, wash! Wash your clothes all you want! You brat, you are more excited about laundry than bringing a wife home! Can those clothes marry you?”
“You stubborn man!” Grandfather Yan cursed angrily.
However, when he turned back to Lu Yubai, his face was full of tenderness. “Granddaughter-in-law, please be patient with him! I will definitely give him a beating later!”
Yan Chi remained silent.
Lu Yubai was amused, and a flicker of joy rose in his heart. According to what Grandfather Yan said, Yan Chi had not been with anyone else over the past two years. So after he left, that person named Lin Lan never actually ended up with Yan Chi?
A surge of hostility rose in his eyes, followed by a fleeting, complex emotion. He hated being manipulated.
Once Lu Yubai regained his composure, he took Grandfather Yan’s hand. “Grandpa, I am not a child; I do not need to be coaxed. But regarding the marriage, we still need some time to think about it.”
After a few more words, Grandfather Yan sighed and finally dropped the subject. Before leaving, Lu Yubai promised to visit whenever he was free, leaving Grandfather Yan grinning from ear to ear.
Only a few steps out of the hospital room, Lu Yubai stopped. He rested one hand in his trouser pocket, his fingertips rubbing together thoughtfully.
“Has Lin Lan really not been with you all these years?” His tone was unusually cold, yet his gaze wandered aimlessly elsewhere, making him appear indifferent.
Yan Chi asked, “Why do you”
Lu Yubai interrupted, “You only need to answer me.”
Yan Chi froze for a few seconds. “No.” He did not even understand why Lu Yubai was asking this.
The corners of Lu Yubai’s lips curled upward. “Let us get married.”
Yan Chi was stunned. “Because of Grandpa?” His expression was grim, showing no hint of joy.
Had this been three years ago, Yan Chi would have been ecstatic. But now, he was not. His brow was furrowed with a complex mix of disbelief and skepticism.
“Not entirely,” Lu Yubai said. Seeing that Yan Chi remained silent, he asked, “How much time does Grandpa have left?”
Yan Chi’s expression softened slightly. “About three or four months.”
He did not dwell on Lu Yubai’s first answer, treating it as a joke. He heard it, but he did not dare take it seriously.
Lu Yubai fell into a thoughtful silence for a moment before speaking. “We will sign a contract. After three or four months, if either party wishes to dissolve the marriage, the other must cooperate.”
Yan Chi replied coldly, “Such a clause has no legal standing. Even if a contract is signed, it cannot serve as a legal basis for divorce.”
Lu Yubai felt a headache coming on. How does this guy know the law so clearly? He is truly hard to fool!
He pulled a black card from his suit pocket, grabbed Yan Chi’s wrist, and pressed the card into his palm.
“All my assets from these years are yours. Will you marry me?” he asked again. This time, he was much more resolute.
“Will you marry me?”
In the quiet hallway, Lu Yubai’s voice echoed in Yan Chi’s ears. It felt as if someone were forcefully knocking on the door to his heart, which had been locked for years.
“Lu Yubai, you are an Alpha!” Yan Chi’s voice was laced with anger and warning.
He was the Alpha Lu Yubai who only liked orange-scented Omegas! Yan Chi hated this. Lu Yubai clearly did not like an Enigma like him, yet he still came back to provoke him. He was not a pet that Lu Yubai could play with when happy and discard when bored. He was a person. He could feel pain and sorrow, and eventually, he would break.
“I was born an Alpha. I have known that for twenty-eight years; I do not need you to remind me.” Lu Yubai’s grip on Yan Chi’s wrist tightened. His hand trembled slightly, but he quickly pulled it back. This hand is acting up again.
He struggled to control his emotions. Once he calmed down, he looked up at Yan Chi. “Yan Chi, I am only asking you this once.”
Lu Yubai stared at him intensely. The heat in his gaze was hard to refuse. Yan Chi’s eyes flickered. He had said before that Lu Yubai’s eyes were mesmerizing, like an enchanting spirit that could make anyone agree to anything.
However, Yan Chi was certain that Lu Yubai was only doing this for his grandfather.
Seeing no answer, Lu Yubai felt uneasy and gave himself a way out. “Forget it. I did not mean to force you. I know our current relationship is indeed”
Before he could finish, Yan Chi shoved the card back to him. Lu Yubai looked at the card in his hand, his fingertips burning. As expected, he had been rejected. As he clutched the card, trying to find more words to say, Yan Chi spoke.
“I am going home to get my household registration booklet.”
Lu Yubai was shocked. By the time he recovered, he could only see Yan Chi’s retreating back. He hurried after him. “I will drive you.”
Yan Chi did not refuse. Because his work was specialized and extremely taxing on the eyes, he rarely drove to work. Usually, Uncle Zhou drove him.
When they arrived at Yan Chi’s house, Lu Yubai stopped him as he was unbuckling his seatbelt. “There is a box in the back seat with steam eye masks I bought for you. You should take them inside.”
Yan Chi did not argue. He thanked him and took the items inside. When he returned, he held a household registration booklet in his hand.
Lu Yubai then drove home. He parked the car far away and sneaked back into the Lu residence. He was so stealthy that even a mouse would have been bolder. Anyone watching would have thought a thief had entered the house in broad daylight. Once he succeeded, he sped away.
On the road, Yan Chi looked at him with concern. “If your parents find out, just blame me. Or perhaps we should forget it.”
Lu Yubai interrupted him with a cold glare. “Then my father would definitely skin you alive. I am the heir to the Lu family, after all,” he joked, refusing to acknowledge the suggestion to call it off.
Yan Chi frowned and did not speak again until they reached the Civil Affairs Bureau. Just as they were about to enter, Yan Chi pulled him back.
He told Lu Yubai solemnly, “You can regret this at any time. This offers you no benefit.”
Lu Yubai thought to himself, Who says there is no benefit? “I do not regret it. But in a couple of days, I will move into your house to lay low for a while.”
With that, he pulled Yan Chi inside. The photos, the vows, and the collection of the certificates were all completed in one go. When they came out, Lu Yubai felt a sense of security he had never known before. He had finally succeeded!
Yan Chi, however, looked at the marriage certificate in his hand with a heavy expression. He had used a certificate and himself to bind Lu Yubai. He was not happy. He could have refused. Yet, when Lu Yubai proposed, his heart, which had been stagnant for years, suddenly roared back to life. It was the guidance of his heartbeat, and he could not control it.
“During this time, I will be a capable husband. If you need anything, just ask,” Yan Chi promised.
