- Chapter 3 - Which Family’s Omega Fights Every Day?
“Come back tomorrow at noon after you have eaten,” Yan Chi said calmly.
Lu Yubai: “…”
His eyelids twitched slightly, and his disappointment was visible to the naked eye. “Fine. Be safe on your way back.”
Yan Chi gave a soft “Mm” in response.
He looked up at the pitch-black night sky, where not a single star could be seen. When he lowered his gaze, intending to watch Lu Yubai leave, his eyes met Lu Yubai’s.
Lu Yubai was also watching him.
When their gazes collided, a flicker of panic trembled in Lu Yubai’s eyes.
However, he quickly suppressed it. He feigned composure and gave Yan Chi a gentle smile. “Goodnight, Yan Chi.”
Yan Chi did not reply; he simply turned and walked away.
Under the moonlight, his silhouette stretched long.
In the silence of the night, a cool breeze rustled, carrying a rich scent of red wine. It was fragrant and intoxicating, enough to make one’s heart sway.
Lu Yubai waited until Yan Chi had entered his car before he finally left.
Beneath the lingering moonlight, a soft light shimmered in Yan Chi’s eyes. He stared at the retreating figure in the rearview mirror and whispered softly, “Goodnight, Lu Yubai.”
The Lu Residence
As soon as he returned home, Lu Bo stepped forward and kicked him.
“You little brat, you didn’t answer your phone. Where the hell did you go?”
Lu Bo then noticed that his son’s lower body was nearly bare, and a look of astonishment gathered in his eyes.
“Were you mugged for your looks? Did someone strip off your pants?”
Lu Yubai rolled his eyes, his face full of grievance. Who else gets kicked in the butt at twenty-eight years old?
Lu Yubai kept quiet.
“Dad, I am an S-class Alpha. Who would mug an Alpha for their looks these days? I fell.”
He lifted his leg to show Lu Bo the injury.
Lu Bo rolled his eyes and focused only on the main point. “Then where are your pants?”
Lu Yubai fell silent.
Damn it.
He had left them in Yan Chi’s car.
“I lost them. They were dirty,” he stammered.
Lu Bo looked at him with a mischievous grin. “Oh?”
“You managed to fall so hard that your pants disappeared?”
“The driver was the one who brought you back today, and he didn’t say anything about you falling. Don’t tell me you fell right at our front door.”
Lu Yubai: “…”
“Yes, I fell at the door. It was dark tonight.”
Lu Bo’s gaze grew even more suspicious, a mix of skepticism and warning.
“There isn’t a trash can at the front door. Where did you throw your pants?”
“Oh, right, Yan Chi just left. Wait, you didn’t give your pants to Yan Chi, did you? That is inappropriate; he is an Enigma!”
Caught in the truth, Lu Yubai’s expression tightened. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead, and he did not dare to make a sound.
Lu Bo’s eyes darted around as he added, “You need to be careful when you spend time with Yan Chi lately.”
Lu Bo lowered his voice in warning.
Lu Yubai looked puzzled.
Lu Bo leaned in close and said mysteriously, “That boy Yan Chi is already thirty-one and still single. In all these years, I have never seen him with a partner. He is an Enigma, too. Do you think he might not like people?”
Lu Yubai clicked his tongue. “Dad, spreading rumors is illegal.”
Besides, Yan Chi did like people.
He was the living proof, because he was a person.
Lu Bo looked him up and down with disdain and suspicion. “I was just joking with you. Why are you being so serious? Unless…”
Before he could finish, Lu Yubai interrupted him guiltily. “Dad!”
“Do you know if he has had a partner?” The seriousness on Lu Bo’s face vanished, replaced by pure curiosity.
Lu Yubai immediately shook his head. “I don’t know.”
“It’s late, Dad. You should go to bed.”
While ushering his father away, Lu Yubai guiltily went to the living room to pour a glass of water.
Lu Bo pursed his lips. “Brat, you’re acting strange.”
After telling Lu Yubai to sleep early, he turned and went upstairs.
Lu Yubai drank several glasses of water in the living room, but he could not extinguish the surging excitement in his heart caused by their reunion.
Suddenly, the front door was pushed open.
A man dressed in black walked in.
Hearing the sound, Lu Yubai stepped out holding his glass.
When Lu Xingchuan heard footsteps in the living room, he subconsciously pulled up his hoodie and shoved one hand into his pocket, feigning a casual air.
As he crossed the living room, he pretended to look away from where Lu Yubai was standing.
“Brother, you’re back?”
Lu Xingchuan’s voice sounded lazy, but it was slightly raspy, as if he had been crying.
Lu Yubai sensitively caught the abnormality in Lu Xingchuan’s behavior.
“You brat, stop right there.”
He set down his water glass and walked over quickly.
Lu Xingchuan instinctively took a step back, his eyes darting around unnaturally. With a thud, his heel hit a cabinet, and he immediately turned his head away.
“Brother, I’m a bit tired. I’m going to sleep. You should sleep early, too.”
Having said that, he tried to hurry upstairs guiltily.
Lu Yubai became even more certain that Lu Xingchuan was hiding something.
“I said stop. Don’t make me get physical. It’s late, and I don’t want to wake Dad.”
Lu Yubai’s eyes darkened, his tone full of threat.
Lu Xingchuan stopped moving.
The pressure of the red wine pheromones from the Alpha behind him made it difficult to breathe. The scent of red wine permeating the air was highly oppressive; Lu Xingchuan felt as if his strength had been drained, and his body grew weak.
It was difficult to even take a step.
He was just a useless, low-grade Omega.
Lu Yubai walked up to him and yanked down his hoodie.
Lu Xingchuan’s handsome face was covered in bruises; there was blood around the corner of his eye, and several conspicuous scratches marked his neck.
It was clear he had been in a fight.
“You were fighting?”
Lu Yubai folded his arms across his chest and looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze, waiting for Lu Xingchuan to confess.
Lu Xingchuan was the most fight-prone Omega he had ever seen.
Which family’s Omega gets into fights every other day at school?
It was his own family’s!
Most Omegas in this world liked to eat cream cakes and lollipops while acting spoiled in an Alpha’s arms.
Lu Xingchuan was a massive anomaly.
“I didn’t lose! They were the ones talking nonsense first!” Lu Xingchuan looked up and emphasized, the stubbornness in his eyes burning like a rising flame.
“Just go wash up and sleep. Don’t let Dad see you.”
Lu Yubai patted Lu Xingchuan on the shoulder without saying much more.
“Okay.”
The Next Day
Lu Yubai arrived at the gates of the Cultural Relics Research Institute at noon.
He walked to the security booth. “Can I go in?”
Seeing that he was not wearing a staff badge, the security guard immediately became alert.
“The Research Institute does not accept outside visitors. Do you have a letter of recommendation for entry?”
Lu Yubai was stunned. “A what?”
When he had gone to the institute to find Yan Chi before, he had never heard of an entry recommendation letter.
“Only a staff member of the institute can provide a handwritten recommendation letter for someone to enter.”
The guard’s tone was cold.
Lu Yubai was speechless but deeply shocked.
He muttered under his breath, “I don’t remember there being a rule like this before.”
The guard replied, “This was an order personally issued by Director Yan three years ago. Were you introduced by someone? You can call them; if they come to pick you up, you can enter.”
Lu Yubai’s expression darkened.
Three years ago?
Was Yan Chi trying to keep him out?
He took out his phone and called Yan Chi.
Ten minutes later, Yan Chi emerged from the institute.
He was still wearing white rubber gloves.
“I am still busy. It will take about half an hour. You…”
“It’s fine, I can wait.” Lu Yubai added, “Can I wait inside?”
“Alright,” Yan Chi said plainly.
Under the stunned gaze of the security guard, Yan Chi led Lu Yubai into the institute.
As they walked side by side, Yan Chi suddenly remembered something, and his expression grew slightly solemn.
“The square vase donated by Uncle Lu was originally part of a pair. One was lost in history due to war, and rumors claimed it was shattered, making the remaining vase a unique piece.”
“However, at a private auction ten years ago, Old Mr. Yang’s son commissioned someone to acquire a square vase similar to this one. It should be from the same set.”
