Inside a black Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lu Yubai wore a black and red floral shirt under a black suit jacket, creating a look that blended maturity with a hint of roguish charm. He scrolled through the trending hashtags about Jinghua on Weibo, rubbing the bridge of his nose wearily.
He had just stepped off a plane and had not rested for twenty consecutive hours. The long journey left him feeling nauseous, but he had to hurry. He had someone very important to see.
Leaning against the car window with his legs crossed, he rested his chin on a hand wrapped in a black and red silk scarf. As he watched the sea of cars passing by under the night sky, the anticipation in his heart felt as though it would overflow from his chest.
Jiangcheng. He had not been back in three years.
As the speeding car drew closer to its destination, Lu Yubai nervously began to adjust his cuffs and tie.
The car arrived at the entrance of the Lu residence.
Lu Yubai looked out the window eagerly, only to see a man wearing white rubber gloves, holding a wooden clipboard with documents, passing by the car window. Under the quiet moonlight, that tall, slender figure exuded an aura of noble self-restraint and cold detachment.
It was not until the silhouette began to vanish from his sight that Lu Yubai reacted.
It was him! It really was him!
In an instant, Lu Yubai’s pupils constricted.
“Stop! Stop the car!” he shouted urgently.
Without waiting for the car to come to a complete halt, he threw the door open and sprinted in the direction the figure had gone. As he gave chase, he saw the man getting into a black Porsche.
The car began to drive away slowly.
“Yan Chi!”
Lu Yubai bolted after it, his composed demeanor scattered to the wind. He ran over a hundred meters along the dark road. At such a high speed, his features were contorted as he gasped for air, but his pace never faltered.
His eyes were fixed on the car, and he did not notice a stone by the roadside. He tripped and tumbled to the ground. Because of his momentum, the fall scraped his elbows, palms, and knees raw. Ignoring the pain, he scrambled up to continue the chase.
When he looked up, the car in the distance had stopped. The dark red taillights flickered, somewhat blinding him, but he thought that Yan Chi must have seen him.
Sure enough, a tall silhouette emerged from the darkness, blocking the glaring lights. He was walking toward Lu Yubai, silhouetted against the glow.
Lu Yubai’s body went stiff as he took two steps forward. His lips parted, wanting to say something, but he did not know how to start. In the dozen or so seconds it took for the other man to reach him, Lu Yubai felt as if his blood had frozen. Those few moments felt longer than the three years he had spent abroad.
Yan Chi walked directly up to him.
“Is something the matter?”
A cold, thin voice drifted down from above.
Lu Yubai glanced down at the bloody marks on his palms and quickly hid his hands behind his back.
“Nothing.”
He looked up at Yan Chi with a smile, his clear, beautiful peach-blossom eyes shimmering. He had been looking forward to this moment for three years.
“The appraisal results for the ceramics are out; they are not fakes. Tomorrow, I will post an official statement on behalf of the museum thanking Jinghua for the donation.”
Yan Chi’s eyes were icy, and his tone was devoid of warmth. He sounded as if he were reporting official business. However, the moment Lu Yubai had lowered his head to hide his hands, the look Yan Chi cast toward Lu Yubai’s palms was incredibly intense.
“Thank you,” Lu Yubai said.
“The ceramics were donated to the museum. Conducting a second appraisal was a request from the museum director. You do not need to thank me,” Yan Chi replied, his tone remaining indifferent.
Lu Yubai fell silent for a moment. He bit his lip and looked at Yan Chi somewhat timidly.
“Do I look very pathetic right now?”
Three years after their breakup, he had spent their reunion chasing a car down the street and falling flat on his face. It must look incredibly embarrassing.
Yan Chi looked at him, his sharp features softening slightly under the moonlight.
“It is alright.”
A trace of warmth finally seeped into Yan Chi’s cold voice. “Does it hurt?”
Lu Yubai nodded, his voice carrying a hint of grievance. “Yes, my knees hurt a bit.”
“Go back and apply some medicine. Be careful of infection,” Yan Chi said softly. Behind his gold-rimmed glasses, the emotions in the depths of his eyes began to unravel.
“Yan Chi, can we talk?” Lu Yubai looked up. Perhaps for fear of being rejected, his movements were stiff and his expression was restrained.
“Okay.” Yan Chi added, “I have iodine and cotton swabs in the car. Let us talk inside.”
Lu Yubai followed Yan Chi into the car. As soon as he closed the door, a clear, refined voice came from beside him:
“Take them off.”
Lu Yubai: “Do you want to touch my butt?”
He looked at Yan Chi in shock. Behind the gold-rimmed glasses, those deep black pupils were clear and bright. With his white doctor’s coat aesthetic, Yan Chi’s cold, noble face looked like that of a pure, flawless deity.
“The medicine,” Yan Chi said with a cold brow.
Only then did Lu Yubai see the cotton swabs and iodine in his hand.
Lu Yubai: Was I the one being perverted?
His face flushed crimson as he took off his suit jacket. When he pulled up his sleeve, he accidentally brushed his palm, causing him to hiss in pain.
“Let me do it,” Yan Chi said.
Lu Yubai straightened his arm and held it out. Yan Chi held his wrist, dipping a swab in iodine to apply the medicine. He moved with a gentleness that suggested he was handling a precious treasure.
After finishing with his hands, Yan Chi’s gaze landed on Lu Yubai’s knees.
Lu Yubai followed his gaze and coughed awkwardly. “Do I need to take them off? Will you help me?”
Yan Chi’s tense body stiffened. A flush crept up his pale cheeks, and even the corners of his eyes turned red. Lu Yubai silently looked away.
“You take them off. I have the medicine ready,” Yan Chi said.
Lu Yubai remained silent.
After some hesitation, Yan Chi set down the iodine and reached out to touch Lu Yubai’s waist. The moment his fingers brushed against Lu Yubai’s lean waistline, Yan Chi’s fingertips felt scorched. He looked away as he helped Lu Yubai pull the garment down.
Immediately, Yan Chi took off his own coat and draped it over Lu Yubai’s lap before he dared to look at him directly. Seeing those long, straight legs, Yan Chi swallowed hard against a sudden dryness in his throat, and his Adam’s apple bobbed rapidly.
He tried his best to suppress the desire in his eyes, picking up a cotton swab to tend to the knees. Under the warm yellow interior car light, an ambiguous atmosphere began to spread.
The visibility in the car was not great. As Lu Yubai watched Yan Chi’s face move closer to his knee, a blush spread all the way to the tips of his ears.
“That… I will lift my leg up so it is easier to reach.”
Without waiting for a response, he lifted his leg and rested it directly on Yan Chi’s lap. He accidentally pressed against him.
Damn.
It became even more awkward. He curled his toes, his joints tightening. He was so embarrassed he wanted to dig a hole and disappear.
Yan Chi’s expression darkened slightly, and a wave of heat washed over his cold, detached face, reaching his ears. He gripped Lu Yubai’s leg and moved it a few inches to the side.
Lu Yubai did not dare look at him. At this moment, he just wanted to find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
On the first day of their reunion, he ended up having his pants taken off by his ex-boyfriend to apply medicine. This was very different from the romantic reunion he had imagined.
