The Top-Tier Alpha Refuses to Be Pretty Cannon Fodder - Chapter 20
“Sir, the person is here.”
The lighting inside the bar was dim. Lu Yunli, leaning back in the booth with a glass in hand, looked up slightly.
The person walking toward him looked even more provocative than he had on stage. His face was devoid of makeup, but his features were sharp and deep, he was a natural-born star. In his mind, Lu Yunli was already envisioning the debut concept photos for him.
While Lu Yunli was sizing him up, Sheng Yan was doing the same.
Though the man sat alone, his noble and powerful aura was more vivid than the stage lights behind them. He wore a black shirt with the collar slightly loose, but his eyes were like brilliant stars, piercingly bright. Within that heated gaze, however, Sheng Yan saw no trace of fanaticism or obsession; instead, they were filled with a calm, calculating look, as if he were evaluating an object.
He wondered if this man would remain so composed if he actually fell in love.
Sheng Yan couldn’t help but lean closer. Even the rejection he had prepared turned into a different question. “This card… did you give it?”
Lu Yunli pulled himself from his thoughts and looked up at the man, who had sat directly on the armrest of his sofa. “Yes.”
Sheng Yan looked down, flipping the card over in his fingers. Then, he braced his hand on the sofa and leaned forward. “Sir, do you want me?”
The sudden proximity was both aggressive and testing. Lu Yunli didn’t move, nor did he look startled. His gaze swept from the fabric sliding off the man’s shoulder to meet the encroaching deep gaze. “Yes.”
The air tightened instantly. As breath brushed against his face, the atmosphere seemed to rise in temperature. Sheng Yan’s eyes flickered as he took the card and let it slide slowly down from Lu Yunli’s exposed collarbone. “If the partner is you, I suppose I could accept.”
After the edge of the card popped a button off the shirt, Lu Yunli reached out, gripped the man’s waist firmly, and pulled him down into his lap.
The person falling into his arms showed a flash of surprise in his eyes. Lu Yunli ignored it. He traced the shape of the man’s lips with his eyes and slowly lowered his head while Sheng Yan stared, momentarily stunned.
The long lashes of the man in his arms trembled slightly, as if he hadn’t expected Lu Yunli to actually go through with it. Lu Yunli let out a light chuckle and stopped just inches from the man’s lips.
“Omega?”
Facing the question, Sheng Yan laughed softly. “Do I not look like an Omega?”
Lu Yunli remained silent.
Sheng Yan: “I’m a Beta.”
Lu Yunli: “You have one more chance.”
Sheng Yan stared into the eyes so close to his own, a smile playing on his lips. “Alpha.”
“Next time, try a more sophisticated method to test me.” Lu Yunli straightened up and pushed the man out of his lap.
He leaned back against the sofa, re-fastening the popped button. “You were nervous.”
It wasn’t nervousness. It was the excitement of two Alphas meeting—the collision of pheromones where the weak meets the strong.
Sheng Yan steadied himself and turned around abruptly. At this moment, his gaze toward Lu Yunli held a newfound sense of challenge. He leaned back in and said, “I can bow my head for money.”
Lu Yunli tilted his head. “Are you that vulgar?”
Sheng Yan: “Vulgar. Extremely vulgar.”
“Since you’re vulgar, how about a deal?” Lu Yunli picked up a contract from the table and held it out. “Take a look.”
Sheng Yan took the contract and flipped it open. “An agency contract? Wait, FLP Group???”
Sheng Yan: “Is it the FLP Group I’m thinking of?”
Lu Yunli looked up. “Is there a second FLP Group in Country M?”
Of course not. Sheng Yan snapped the contract shut, his eyes darkening as he looked at Lu Yunli.
The top-tier Alpha of Country M, Lu Yunli. It was actually him.
Sheng Yan rubbed a corner of the contract. “FLP Entertainment wants to sign me?”
Lu Yunli: “If you’re already signed elsewhere, pretend I said nothing.”
Sheng Yan: “I’m a nobody.”
Lu Yunli toyed with his signet ring. “Then I’ll make you a star.”
Sheng Yan: “I only know how to sing.”
Lu Yunli looked up. “I only have one question: Do you love singing?”
Sheng Yan: “I do.”
Lu Yunli: “That’s enough.”
A single passion is worth more than ten thousand skills. It was that very passion that would make him shine on stage. Lu Yunli straightened his shirt and stood up, walking over to the man. “You don’t have to answer me now. I’ll give you three days. Once you’ve thought it over, come find me.”
“No need to think.”
Sheng Yan borrowed a pen from a waiter and signed his name on the spot. He walked closer with the contract, leaning down to whisper in Lu Yunli’s ear, “I’ll be waiting for President Lu to make me famous.”
The laughing voice in his ear made Lu Yunli raise an eyebrow. He took the contract, flipping to the last page.
“Sheng Yan.”
The two simple words seemed to carry a different flavor when spoken by Lu Yunli. Sheng Yan looked at the exquisite profile so close to him. “President Lu, now that the contract is signed, why don’t you consider the ‘matter’ between the two of us?”
Lu Yunli snapped the contract shut. “Two Alphas? Impossible.”
Sheng Yan lowered his voice. “I heard two Alphas can be even more intense.”
Lu Yunli: “…………”
Sheng Yan drew closer. “I’ve taken a liking to you.”
“Don’t you think we’re a perfect match?”
Lu Yunli reached out and pushed the encroaching face away. “Sorry, I’m married.”
“You don’t smell like Omega pheromones. Furthermore, if the President of FLP Group got married, it would be the news of the century, yet there’s nothing online.” Sheng Yan looked down at his fingers. “And President Lu isn’t wearing a wedding ring.”
Lu Yunli looked down at his hand. In his memory of that one-sided wedding, Qi Xi hadn’t even bothered to prepare rings.
Lu Yunli arched an eyebrow. “The little thing at home is a bit disobedient.”
Sheng Yan: “I know you’re lying.”
Lu Yunli: “Any more nonsense and give me the card back.”
Sheng Yan: “…………”
Seeing the man shut up, Lu Yunli slipped a hand into his pocket and prepared to leave, but an Alpha coming the other way shoved his shoulder. The scent of low-grade Alpha pheromones filled the air. Lu Yunli frowned and brushed off the spot where he had been touched.
The newcomer looked up with drunken eyes, surprised that he hadn’t managed to budge the man. Seeing Lu Yunli, he realized this face was even more “flavorful” than the one on stage.
The man chuckled, clutching a wine bottle. He pointed at Sheng Yan then moved his finger to Lu Yunli. “You… you stole… my person.”
“A person for a person. You…” The man beckoned to Lu Yunli. “Little beauty, you submit to me, and I’ll… spare you.”
Sheng Yan noted, “That guy looks like a director of the Fangheng Group.”
The man patted his belly and laughed. “Hear that? If you follow me… I’ll make sure you live the high life from now on.”
“If you refuse, today I’ll make you—”
Before he could finish, Lu Yunli let out a scoff, stepped forward, and kicked the man squarely to the floor.
Inside a private room at Galant Bar, the owner Fang Yu stared at images of birthday gifts on a screen. He had been looking for an hour. He rubbed his eyes and said, “I can’t do this anymore. Look for yourself, my eyes are failing me.”
Qi Xi leaned back on the sofa with his arms crossed, his gaze cold as he stared at the various design sketches. The secretary standing nearby wiped away sweat. “Boss, is there… anything you like?”
Qi Xi: “No.”
Secretary: “…”
Fang Yu spoke up. “If you ask me, just buy a mountain of gifts on the birthday and put them in front of him. I don’t believe a little Omega wouldn’t like a single one.”
“No, I tried that before.” Qi Xi thought of that disastrous morning and frowned. “He doesn’t like it.”
“Gift-giving should cater to interests,” Fang Yu said. “Didn’t I tell you to ask what he likes? Still nothing?”
Qi Xi’s frown deepened. After a long silence, he squeezed out, “He likes fried chicken.”
Fang Yu: “…………That’s it?”
Qi Xi: “That’s it.”
“Man, are you even trying?” Fang Yu sat down in front of him. “Omegas are delicate, like water. Don’t always keep such a cold face; you have to coax them.”
Qi Xi thought of Lu Yunxing crying like a little rabbit. “How do I coax him?”
Fang Yu: “Soften your face, speak gently. For example, when he cries, you hold him, kiss him, and do that ‘kiss, hug, and lift him high’ routine.”
Qi Xi pondered this seriously. Kiss, hug, and lift him high. It seemed worth a try.
Fang Yu: “As for choosing a gift, if you really can’t do it, just take him to a mall. See what he stares at—that’s what he likes. Also—”
“Brother Fang! Something’s wrong!”
The door was suddenly thrown open. Fang Yu cut off, shouting, “Can’t you see I’m hosting an important guest? Get out.”
The waiter stammered, “Brother Fang, it’s… someone is fighting.”
“Then get people to stop it! If they won’t stop, kick them out!” Fang Yu waved him away. “Go, go, go.”
The waiter wiped his forehead. “But, our ten guys can’t win.”
“We don’t dare stop them.”
“Ten people can’t stop one person? Are you all useless?” Fang Yu stood up. “What’s going on?”
The waiter explained, “A guy took a liking to the kid singing on stage and threw money at him. The boss of Fangheng got jealous and went to settle the score. But then the Fangheng boss saw the guy who threw the money and decided he wanted him instead. He insisted on having him, and they started fighting.”
“Then the Fangheng boss called for backup, saying he’s taking the guy home tonight. And then that kid Sheng Yan joined the fight too.”
Fang Yu: “Why did Sheng Yan join the fight???”
The waiter lowered his head. “He said the Fangheng boss was full of it that the person belongs to him.”
Fang Yu: “?????”
Who exactly is this world-class troublemaker?
