Chapter 14: Street Stalling 3.0
“I saw him just now. Strange, look again?”
“Check over there. If we get a shot, it’ll be a huge scoop.”
The voices belonged to two adult men—entertainment reporters, by the look of it.
Even Bai Xun had only just learned that Yu Congyue was on-site; these journalists really were everywhere…
The cashmere sweater tickled the back of his neck. After they had wandered off, Bai Xun slowly turned around, took a half-step back to ensure no tea had spilled from the bags, and let out a long sigh of relief.
“Brother, why are you here?”
“I originally wanted to come and support you, but it looks like you didn’t really need it.”
Yu Congyue had caught the livestream preview at the studio that morning. By the afternoon, he had tuned in right on time, watching with growing pride as the headcount both on-site and in the stream climbed steadily.
From the beginning, he had never doubted Bai Xun’s ability. To be able to catch a trend so timely and create such high-quality content—he truly was the person Yu Congyue thought him to be.
“How could I not need you!” Bai Xun countered immediately. In truth, Yu Congyue’s presence was a massive surprise, and beyond the surprise, he felt a deep sense of moved gratitude.
After all, up to this point, every major highlight of his new life seemed to have been witnessed or participated in by Yu Congyue. In a way, the man was his lucky charm.
This only solidified his resolve to “follow Brother Yu to the end.”
“Brother, you’re seriously too good…” Behind Bai Xun, an imaginary tail wagged incessantly as he looked at Yu Congyue with sparkling eyes.
However, because the “puppy’s” gaze was so clear and innocent, the slight romantic tension from a moment ago evaporated instantly.
With a hint of a smile, Yu Congyue watched the “tail” kicking up a small cloud of dust behind the boy. He couldn’t resist ruffling the puppy’s hair a few more times, sighing helplessly: “Alright, get back to it. Otherwise, your fans will start complaining if they can’t find you.”
Yu Congyue tucked his gloves into his pocket and leaned over to take the bags from Bai Xun’s hands.
“Okay then. Get home safe, Brother.”
Bai Xun lingered at the door, watching Yu Congyue leave. The sensation of the touch on his head seemed to linger. He sighed softly, but not daring to delay his work, he hurried back just as a new batch of black tea finished steeping. He was soon plunged back into the busy rush.
…
The tea, originally planned to last until 8:00 PM, was completely sold out before 7:00 PM. Fortunately, he had prepared plenty of cookies. After distributing them all and wrapping things up, Xu Yi arrived just as the crowds were thinning out, having just finished a meeting.
“I’m sorry, I was supposed to come by today, but a last-minute inspection came up.”
“It’s fine, Teacher Xu. Have a cup of hot tea to warm up.” He poured a cup of ginger tea he had set aside in a thermos and handed her a large bag of cookies. “These are hazelnut mix cookies I made last night. I tried them and they aren’t too sweet. Please have some.”
Xu Yi had already heard the feedback on her way over. Between that and the sudden influx of stall applications in her work inbox, she was impressed. She hadn’t expected Bai Xun to save anything for her, and as she took the gift, her opinion of him climbed even higher.
“Thank you. The feedback data from today is excellent—beyond expectations. Applications on the backend have spiked as well.”
Xu Yi showed Bai Xun the data. Seeing that he had actually been able to help, he felt an indescribable sense of fulfillment.
Back home, Bai Xun slumped onto the sofa and scrolled through local videos. Many netizens who had been on-site were posting reviews; without exception, they praised the efficiency and the quality. Most seemed to be college students who, seeing how busy he was, simply took “distance selfies” with him in the frame and left quickly.
Truly kind-hearted college students, he thought.
Just then, he received a new friend request. It was a professional account: TaoMai Business.
TaoMai? Isn’t that the e-commerce giant equivalent to Taobao in his original world?
He accepted the request and sent a greeting. The other side replied instantly with a long message.
TaoMai Business Lily: Hello Teacher Bai, I am Lily from TaoMai Business. Sorry to bother you, but TaoMai is very interested in your “Challenge 100 Occupations” series. We sent an invitation the day before yesterday but haven’t received a reply. We’d really like to strive for a collaboration. Are you interested in discussing this further?
What? The day before yesterday? Collaboration?
Bai Xun: I’m so sorry, I didn’t receive any notification… Was it sent to my work email?
TaoMai Business Lily: Yes, Teacher Bai. It was sent at 10:00 AM the day before yesterday. [Screenshot]
Bai Xun clicked the image. It was indeed his work email. Recalling his manager’s face, he understood the situation perfectly.
Bai Xun: I am definitely interested. It’s an honor to have this opportunity from TaoMai. I’ve had some contract disputes with my company these past few days, so I might not have been able to contact them in time. Truly sorry.
TaoMai Business Lily: That’s great, Teacher Bai! Contract issues won’t affect our collaboration~ Let me briefly explain the format we have in mind~
A document followed. Bai Xun skimmed it and quickly grasped their needs.
TaoMai wanted to invite Bai Xun to experience a day in the Merchant Operations Department. The goal was to promote an upcoming merchant recruitment drive and use his content to help potential entrepreneurs understand the platform’s benefits.
The work was right up his alley, given his background in Marketing. Plus, the internet ecosystem in this world was stuck at a level similar to ten years ago in his original world—without the complex branching systems—so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Bai Xun: No problem on my end. I can have a script ready by the day after tomorrow at the earliest. The only issue is dealing with my situation with the MCN; it might not be resolved very quickly.
The “Typing…” status lingered for about a minute. Then, Lily sent a smiley face followed by a sentence:
TaoMai Business Lily: If you’re interested in jumping ship, Teacher Bai, our legal team is second to none 🙂
Bai Xun had considered leaving, but without knowing the background, he didn’t want to accidentally fall into another trap.
Bai Xun: Haha, thanks for the invitation.
He played it off, and Lily didn’t push further, instead sending him a spreadsheet outlining a typical day for a departmental intern.
TaoMai Business Lily: I’ll set up a group chat. Teacher Bai, if you need any materials, just ask in the group. Anything not against regulations can be sent over.
Bai Xun: Great, thank you for your hard work.
While waiting, Bai Xun counted his group chats. In just a few days, he had joined five or six. Though many, it was better than sending emails that went unanswered.
He stretched and did a quick search for TaoMai’s current resources. He soon discovered a shocking fact:
Despite being an e-commerce platform for five or six years, TaoMai had no concept of a “Double 11” (Singles’ Day) shopping festival.
He checked the merchant entry links. The registration was easy, and the backend showed plenty of activities, but they were scattered. The cost for merchants to join big events was too high, yet exposure in small events was insufficient. There was no annual “explosion” of GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume)…
These problems coalesced into a massive opportunity before his eyes. A bold idea took root.
Since there was no integrated, large-scale promotional event like Double 11, why shouldn’t he be the one to propose it?
…
Bai Xun worked well into the night, only napping at his desk for a few hours when he hit his limit. When the alarm went off, he jumped back into content creation, using his memory and knowledge to draft a proposal outlining a concept and positioning. He sent it to TaoMai’s business email.
Subject: Regarding TaoMai Annual Independent IP Proposal – Bai Xun
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out. Rather than just filming a new video, I have prepared a preliminary proposal for a TaoMai Annual Independent IP Festival based on current business conditions.
The attached plan is a first draft, but the core direction aims to create an “Easy Festival” that aggregates brands and consumers. Additionally, due to communication issues with my current MCN, if we move toward formal cooperation, I may need assistance reviewing my current contract to ensure I meet legal requirements for the partnership.
If there is a suitable colleague internally to assist with a review, I would be very grateful. I look forward to further discussion.
Best regards, Bai Xun
He forced his exhausted body to take a shower. When he finally crashed onto his pillow, he couldn’t even feel the aches.
Looking back at his time since transmigrating, aside from the initial awkward period, everything had been remarkably smooth: meeting Yu Congyue, landing a long-term collaboration, and leaping from an obscure streamer to the “Top Tier” of a new niche. His new life could truly be described as “playing with cheats.”
Because of this, Bai Xun could not tolerate any obstacles trying to block his path to a better life.
Since TaoMai had offered an olive branch, if he didn’t use this leverage to shake off that dead-weight company, he’d be doing a disservice to the opportunity.
…
Bai Xun sent the email at 5:40 AM. The TaoMai business team saw it as soon as they started work.
Thinking it was just a standard business email, Lily clicked it, read it, and immediately called over her leader, Fu Yu.
Fu Yu looked at the proposal—it wasn’t fully polished, but it hit every pain point. She quickly ordered a background check on Bai Xun; after all, it was natural to be suspicious.
Her department had recently been agonizing over the platform’s struggle to drive large-scale consumption. If she weren’t certain that Bai Xun had no internal connections, she would have suspected an internal leak.
“Lily, find some time to talk to Legal.”
…
Bai Xun had lost count of how many times he’d been woken up by his phone. Seeing an unknown number, he cleared his throat half-asleep and answered.
“Hello?”
“Hello, is this Mr. Bai Xun? This is Fu Yu, Head of Key Project Operations at TaoMai Content Ecosystem Center. We received your proposal today. Is it convenient to jump on a video call to touch base?”
Bai Xun sat up in shock, his eyes barely open and vision blurred. He fumbled for the light switch and blinked hard to see the time: it was already 7:30 PM.
“Oh? Could we do ten minutes from now? I just woke up, I’m so sorry.”
“That’s fine. See you shortly.”
Fu Yu joined the group chat and shared a meeting link.
He threw on a decent shirt, cleared the mess off his bed, washed his face, and smoothed down his bedhead. He sat back at his desk exactly ten minutes later and joined the meeting.
“Is everyone here?”
Fu Yu spoke first. On screen, she wore a cool-toned button-down, appearing sharp and efficient.
“Let’s begin. Today’s meeting will focus on the ‘Easy Go’ proposal submitted by Mr. Bai Xun for a first-round feasibility assessment.”
