- The System Wants Me To Save A Lucky Tycoon [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 8 - The Tycoon with a Mental Illness (8)
Lin Junqing wanted to say something, but before he could organize his thoughts, Xie Lin lifted his head, his expression returning to normal.
“We will not go hiking this weekend. Accompany me on a vacation instead.”
If not for the fact that the sunshine value had turned into a negative number, Lin Junqing would never have known that Xie Lin had been angry at all.
Lin Junqing asked in confusion, “Why did you suddenly change your mind?”
Xie Lin smiled brightly, his slightly narrowed eyes full of madness. “Too many things have happened recently, and I am a bit tired. Just now, hearing you talk about the future, I also wanted to live the life you described. It would certainly be very happy.”
Lin Junqing blinked. If he understood Xie Lin correctly, did the vacation he mentioned mean finding a place with beautiful mountains and clear water to grow vegetables?
Seeing that Lin Junqing was actually going to follow Xie Lin on this vacation, the system urged him to reconsider. [Host, Xie Lin’s sunshine value has turned negative; he has already black-hearted. You should not be alone with him. If he harbors evil intentions and takes you somewhere remote to kill you, you will not even have a chance to call for help.]
Lin Junqing could not help but glance at Xie Lin. He still did not believe the system’s words; he did not believe Xie Lin would kill him. As a precaution, Lin Junqing secretly bought a stun gun and pepper spray before the trip. If Xie Lin truly tried to harm him, he would fight back. Even though the system’s suspicion seemed absurd, Lin Junqing did not dare to gamble with his life. His soul was currently so fragile that if he were killed by Xie Lin, he would have no chance of starting over. The system could bypass the network to call the police for him; as long as he could hold out until the police arrived, he would be safe.
Xie Lin was fully aware that Lin Junqing had purchased the stun gun and pepper spray online. He did not know Lin Junqing was buying them to defend against him; he assumed Lin Junqing was worried about encountering bad people while out on their trip.
When it was time to leave, Lin Junqing boarded Xie Lin’s car, headed to the airport to take Xie Lin’s private jet. The system kept nagging, [Xie Lin’s sunshine value has dropped again over the past two days; it is now -4. Xie Lin is truly too dangerous. Host, are you really going on vacation with him? You do not even know the location; why do you trust him so much?]
Lin Junqing did not necessarily trust Xie Lin. He sighed internally and asked the system, [If I were to leave secretly as you suggest, how long do you think it would take for Xie Lin to find me? Even if Xie Lin wanted to kill me, he has not yet torn the mask off. Do you think it is better to have an open confrontation, or to maintain the current status quo?]
The system was silent for a moment. [I am sorry, I was too anxious. If Xie Lin truly wants to kill you, you cannot escape. You are right; running away without permission would only lead to a confrontation. If Xie Lin stops pretending, the situation would be even more disadvantageous for us.]
Seeing the system so pessimistic, Lin Junqing could not help but say, [Xie Lin wanting to kill me is only our worst-case scenario. What if he just wants to go on vacation? I have never provoked him, nor have I exposed your existence. He has no reason to kill me.]
Yesterday, he intentionally mentioned in the company that he and Xie Lin were going on vacation together, and Xie Lin did not stop him. If Xie Lin really wanted to kill him, he would not have let him spread the word about the trip. If he were to disappear after the vacation, Xie Lin would be the primary suspect. With Xie Lin’s high intelligence, even if he were to commit a crime, it would surely be a perfect one. Lin Junqing chose to believe his own deduction: that Xie Lin would not kill him and was simply going away to clear his mind.
Once on the plane, Lin Junqing deliberately asked Xie Lin, “Can I take a selfie of us and post it on social media?” His contacts were almost entirely people from Xie Lin’s company. If Xie Lin truly wanted to do something to him, he would likely not agree to a public post.
Xie Lin said nothing; he simply stood up, sat beside Lin Junqing, and draped his arm over Lin Junqing’s shoulders. As Lin Junqing pulled out his phone, Xie Lin smiled and made a V-sign toward the lens. After the post was up, Xie Lin saved the photo. It was their first official photograph together.
The system suddenly spoke, its voice unable to hide its excitement. [Host, Xie Lin’s sunshine value suddenly jumped by five points! It has returned to a positive number, going from -4 to 1. Xie Lin must really like taking photos; you should continue taking pictures of him.]
Knowing the value had returned to positive, Lin Junqing picked up his phone and continued to snap photos of Xie Lin. Xie Lin tilted his head, looking at Lin Junqing with confusion in his eyes. “Why are you suddenly taking pictures of me?”
Lin Junqing spoke with sincerity. “Because you are handsome! We should save more photos of ourselves while we are young so that when we are old, we can look back and reminisce. Isn’t that wonderful?”
Lin Junqing’s words put Xie Lin in an excellent mood. He had thought Lin Junqing did not notice his good qualities, but it turned out Lin Junqing knew he was handsome after all.
The system was ecstatic. [It rose again! It rose again! Xie Lin’s sunshine value went from 1 to 3.]
On the plane, Lin Junqing kept taking photos with Xie Lin and showered him with compliments. He successfully boosted Xie Lin’s sunshine value from 3 to 8. Lin Junqing felt he had found a way to please Xie Lin. Xie Lin liked being praised, and although he kept a straight face while hearing it, Lin Junqing could tell he was happy. The system was no longer as terrified, as the sunshine value had stabilized in the positive range.
The helicopter landed on a small island. Looking down from the aircraft, Lin Junqing saw a Chinese-style manor that occupied two-thirds of the island. That was an area of tens of thousands of acres!
As soon as he stepped off the plane, Lin Junqing could not help but gasp, exclaiming, “Is this some kind of tourist attraction? The architecture is entirely Chinese-style. From the plane, I saw that the houses are all wood, there are so many beautiful pavilions and towers, and I even saw a vast garden.”
Lin Junqing stared at Xie Lin, not daring to blink. He prayed that this island was not Xie Lin’s private property. He had only ever seen such exquisite traditional architecture on television.
The helicopter soon departed. Xie Lin, making no attempt to hide his intentions, took Lin Junqing’s hand. “This island is mine. Now, there are only the two of us here. There are fields for us to farm and small animals for us to raise. There is no work pressure here, and you can live happily and comfortably every day. Does this fulfill your wish?”
Because he was so stunned, Lin Junqing did not realize that Xie Lin was holding his hand with their fingers interlaced. He gave a vague reply, continuing to marvel at the scenery.
Xie Lin proactively took out his phone. “Let us take a photo together for social media.” While taking the picture, Xie Lin moved behind Lin Junqing, rested his head on Lin Junqing’s shoulder, and wrapped an arm around his waist.
After taking the photo, Lin Junqing looked at Xie Lin. “Do you not think our behavior in this photo is too intimate?” This was not how friends should act.
Xie Lin put his phone back in his pocket after posting and spoke naturally. “Not at all. I did not even kiss you; how could that be considered intimate?”
Lin Junqing’s eyes widened slightly; he stood there, even forgetting to breathe. Was he hallucinating? What kind of shocking words had Xie Lin just said?
Xie Lin led the dazed Lin Junqing back to the courtyard. “Every month, someone will come to deliver supplies,” he said.
Lin Junqing finally reacted. “Are you staying here long-term? What about the company?”
Xie Lin tugged at his tie with a smile in his eyes, his tone light. “A correction: it is not that I am staying here long-term, it is that we are staying here long-term.”
“I have already arranged everything regarding the company. I am the chairman; going to work was only because I was bored.”
Lin Junqing felt that Xie Lin had changed, but he could not articulate how. He felt a bit panicked, though he did not know why. Xie Lin pushed Lin Junqing’s shoulder lightly, guiding him into a Chinese-style bedroom, and leaned in to whisper in his ear, “From now on, we will live here.”
Lin Junqing froze. “What do you mean?” What did he mean by “we will live here”? There was only one bed! Lin Junqing felt that Xie Lin was acting very strangely today.
Xie Lin did not answer; he took the suitcase to hang up the clothes. Seeing his clothes and Lin Junqing’s hanging side-by-side, the corners of his mouth lifted. Xie Lin changed out of his suit into comfortable leisure wear, then went to the vegetable patch to pick vegetables, washed them, and brought them to the kitchen.
Watching Xie Lin busy himself, looking as if he were truly here to stay, Lin Junqing felt conflicted and complained to the system. [Xie Lin is really going to stay here? Can a modern person really live without the internet? Is he really abandoning the company? What is he trying to achieve?]
The system hesitated for a few seconds. [Host, there is internet on the island. Xie Lin suddenly turned black-hearted before deciding to come here; he might just want to find a quiet place to clear his head. His emotions are sensitive; you must not go against him. Many systems in the forum have said that once a ‘Child of Destiny’ turns black-hearted, not one of them is normal. Xie Lin only wants to be isolated from the world, not to destroy or create chaos. We are already very lucky.]
Lin Junqing took a deep breath; the system was just spouting nonsense. If Xie Lin just wanted some peace, he would certainly not antagonize him.
That night, Lin Junqing ate a meal cooked by Xie Lin. Even though the taste was average, he was very supportive and gave Xie Lin a thumbs up. “I did not expect your cooking skills to be decent. As expected, smart people learn everything quickly.”
After dinner, Lin Junqing went to clear the dishes, but Xie Lin refused. “Just sit there; I will wash them.”
Seeing Xie Lin’s insistence, Lin Junqing put the bowls back. What kind of strange quirk was this? A high-and-mighty CEO who liked to wash dishes and cook?
Feeling bored, Lin Junqing returned to the bedroom and found that it had a private bathroom with a massive bathtub. He went outside to explore and discovered that many of the rooms were ready to be slept in, and some even contained clothes. Before he and Xie Lin arrived, there must have been many staff members living on the island.
Xie Lin rolled up his sleeves, found Lin Junqing wandering around, and called out to him, “Go to the room and get a robe; I will take you to soak in the hot springs.”
Upon hearing “hot springs,” Lin Junqing’s eyes lit up. He had never been to a hot spring before, so he quickly grabbed his clothes and followed Xie Lin.
Lin Junqing lay in the warm spring water, feeling blissful. Xie Lin handed him a glass of red wine. “Taste this; it is wine brewed by the island staff.”
Thinking it was just a glass of wine, Lin Junqing took small sips, and the glass was soon empty. Xie Lin promptly refilled it for him. As Lin Junqing felt slightly tipsy, he saw Xie Lin take out a bottle of pills and swallow them. Curious, he leaned closer. “What are you eating? Are you sick?”
Xie Lin reached out to catch Lin Junqing as he swam over, pulling him to sit by his side. He pressed the pill bottle into Lin Junqing’s hand, his voice hoarse and dark. “These are sedatives. I am afraid I will not be able to control my emotions, and I am afraid I will hurt you.”
Lin Junqing held the bottle, his mind blank. With the alcohol in his system, his brain was moving slower than usual. It took him a long time to react. “Why do you need sedatives?”
Xie Lin suddenly showed him a brilliant, radiant smile, used one hand to forcefully pin Lin Junqing in his embrace, and licked Lin Junqing’s face. “Because I have a mental illness, and I need medication to control it.”
Lin Junqing was even more confused, and at the same time, terrified. Damn it, mental illness does not require a reason to kill someone!
