The Survival Strategy of the Contract Duchess - Chapter 91
“Wow”, what’s the occasion today?”
Sasha came down to have dinner with Kyler. Holding his hand tightly, she could feel that the atmosphere in the dining room was different from other days.
The dining room, which always had bright lighting, was now emitting a soft, reddish-orange glow. The space lit by candlelight in the darkness felt very different.
In her previous life, it felt like a very luxurious restaurant she had only seen in TV dramas.
She had always thought of it as a meal where the food was of very high quality rather than a fancy setting, but for some reason, today it had become such a romantic restaurant.
“I don’t know if this is right but I heard women like this kind of thing.”
Kyler pulled her along, still holding her hand. Sasha, being led by him with a slightly flustered face, looked around.
The table was set so beautifully with pretty flowers, napkins, and even fancy candlesticks, and the surroundings were decorated beautifully with flowers and fabric.
It was the kind of sensibility that she couldn’t even imagine coming from Kyler. Sasha looked around and felt like she was in someone else’s house, so she looked up at him once, then looked around the dining room again, repeating this several times.
“I didn’t do it myself. Is it that hard to believe?”
Was it just her being self-conscious to think he looked a little sulky? Chuckling, Sasha went closer to him. She kissed his closed lips, which were looking down at her, making a smacking sound.
“Of course, you didn’t do it yourself but still, you’re the one who told them to do this, right?”
After the kiss, Kyler’s eyes widened as he kept his gaze fixed on her. Someone must have been watching nearby, and he was surprised by her bold action.
“Yeah. Other wives go to social gatherings, meet friends, buy dresses and jewelry they have a lot to do, but you’re always just at the mansion, and when you do go out, it’s just a quick trip to the downtown area, that’s all you do.”
Listening to him, it sounded like he was saying she was always out having fun. Ah, so he was worried that she was just staying home while others were doing so many things.
Is that why he prepared this? Because he thought she might be bored at home?
Who on earth could call him a cold and scary person? How could a man who always thinks of her and even throws unexpected events be scary?
“I should be saying that. Other noble wives are also taking care of their household affairs. I’m gradually trying to take over from Rose. I’m trying to fully play the role of the Duchess of Ignote, so please wait a little longer.”
That’s why she wants to do more and give him more. Being able to live happily, receiving the warmth of people, feels similar to family. He is her husband now, so he is family, but…
She sat facing him across the beautifully decorated table. Looking closely, it was even more beautiful. The napkins wrapped around the cutlery were also tied with flower stalks with flowers at the end, and the aperitif already in the glass was shimmering in a beautiful golden color, reflecting the candlelight.
Sasha had never even imagined such a beautiful table and luxurious atmosphere, so she kept looking at it over and over again.
“I will prepare the appetizers first.”
Then Nina and Sarah, who were in charge of serving, said in calm voices and placed the plates in front of them.
The food also looked more elaborate than what they usually ate. The food, which was always delicious and luxurious, looked even better.
“Wow!”
Sasha exclaimed once when the food came out and again when she put the food in her mouth. This repeated until the second appetizer came and went and the main course came, and Kyler, who was listening, smiled slightly and looked up at her.
“Is the food that good?”
“Of course! It tastes even better than usual. Um, is this perhaps like the Last Supper or something?”
Even though it was a joke thrown with a smiling face, Kyler’s face hardened when he heard it. He didn’t know why she thought that, but he was slightly relieved because her face didn’t look bad.
“The Last Supper? I just wanted to do something nice for you. I wanted to do something that would make you happy.”
“If that’s the case, then it’s even more touching. Thank you.”
He was even more grateful to her for liking it so much, even though it was just a slight change in the dining atmosphere.
There were still unresolved issues, and especially with the story he was going to tell today, he might end up making her suffer. But if she liked this moment he hoped she would remember it. He hoped she would know how much he liked her and thought about her.
“Many things have changed since you came. At first, I brought you here out of my own greed, but I’m receiving more than that greed.”
He didn’t show much expression or emotion, but he was someone who held a lot inside. Was she someone who could always sincerely accept his feelings someone he could trust?
Thinking that, she was about to feel proud of herself. She held back her twitching cheeks and took a big bite of food, chewing it deliciously.
“Thank you for coming to me. I will protect you for the rest of my life.”
His words of protection were so trustworthy that Sasha nodded without hesitation. Even if she heard something later, she reminded herself that he was ultimately saying it for her sake, so she didn’t regret nodding.
“Kyler, are you eating? I feel like you’re just looking at me and not eating.”
“I’m fine.”
“I’m not fine, so eat quickly. Heh, does your body get tired or hurt if you eat a lot of food?”
There were many things she didn’t know about Kyler, so she was suddenly worried that she might make a mistake in these situations.
“It’s not like that.”
“Then you should eat a lot. Why can’t you eat so well when you’re a man? Eating is all about strength.”
She needed him to know how difficult it was not to be able to eat well. Sasha diligently ate her food and admired it, even watching Kyler eat.
Eating with him in the quiet and beautifully decorated dining room was truly new. Moreover, the fact that all of it was just for her was touching.
The place solely for her was so happy that her heart felt tight.
After the meal, Rose led them to the second floor this time. Sasha, rarely using the stairs on the right side of the second floor, found a large hall-like space.
“All the way here?”
It was a place with high ceilings and large windows on the walls. The moon was especially bright and large today, creating a very beautiful atmosphere.
In front of one of the windows, there was a table with wine and some food, and two chairs.
Even after taking her seat, Kyler watched Sasha, who was looking around for a long time, feeling a sense of pride in his heart.
“Those who decorated this place will be very happy if I tell them about your reaction.”
He wanted to show the maids her appearance, looking at everything so carefully and not forgetting to exclaim “Wow.” He liked the way she observed without missing anything.
“By the way, what happened to the monster?”
They awkwardly clinked their glasses together, even making a “cheers” sound, and were about to bring them to their lips, but Sasha, who took a sip first, asked that. Kyler took the glass away from his lips and turned to her.
“Isn’t that story a bit out of place to enjoy this atmosphere?”
Kyler probably just wanted to give her time to relax, but Sasha was most curious about what he was doing. What he was doing, what he did today, and what he would do in the future.
As long as it didn’t interfere with his work, and if he wasn’t someone who hated talking about his work.
She asked after going through many thoughts like that. Sasha smiled and faced him.
“I’m curious about what Kyler does. Besides, what you’re doing now is by no means easy, right?”
She picked up a small piece of cheese and held it out in front of his mouth, which had taken a sip of wine. When his hesitant mouth opened slightly, Sasha slipped the piece into his mouth and smiled.
Kyler, closing his lips, felt the aroma of the cheese spreading and pulled down her hand that had come to his mouth.
As he moved his hand slightly, he felt a soft touch in his rough hand.
Her hand, her face, her body, wherever his hand touched, it wrapped around him softly. It gave softness and warmth to the rough and hard Kyler.
He moved his hand little by little, feeling the sensation a little more. Sasha also quietly looked down at his hand, entrusting herself to the warmth that was conveyed as it moved softly.
“I’m not doing anything here against my will. Even when I first went into Kyler’s bed. I convinced myself that it was necessary to live here and accepted it.”
When she recalled that night, Kyler’s hand, which had been caressing her hand, stopped abruptly. It felt like a drop of cold sweat was running down his spine.
As if she had anticipated his reaction, Sasha burst out laughing. The sound of laughter echoing in the quiet hall was so clear that Kyler looked at her, bewildered.
How could she laugh like that while recalling that night? Even if it was a contract, it wasn’t that specific. But because her smiling face was also not a lie, Kyler held her hand tightly.
