- Chapter 107 - Side Story Two — Sunny’s Kindergarten Adventures
When the little princess reached the appropriate age, Sang Nian and Shen Zui sent her to a prestigious private kindergarten near their villa.
The tuition was exorbitant; the monthly fee almost equaled the price of the little princess’s favorite designer dress. Consequently, whenever Sunny acted spoiled and expressed a desire to skip class, Shen Zui would use “Return on Investment” (ROI) as a persuasive tactic to encourage her studies.
At the time, Sang Nian stood beside the mother and daughter, listening to the lecture in utter disbelief. She blinked a few times, wondering how a four-year-old could possibly understand such concepts. Just as she was about to pull her daughter into a comforting embrace, she saw the little princess nodding in agreement through her tears.
“Nini will go to school…”
Sang Nian didn’t understand it, but she silently gave her wife a huge thumbs-up in her heart.
Fortunately, the little princess soon discovered the joys of school. A child raised in an environment overflowing with love never suffers from stage fright; Sunny quickly made many friends her age and became a lively “leader of the pack,” much to the teachers’ occasional headache.
Sang Nian frequently received text messages from the head teacher—nominally “reports,” but actually complaints—which left her caught between laughter and tears every time.
About two months after Sunny started school, Sang Nian finished filming a movie and decided to decline further tedious work to rest at home. Since the kindergarten was close, she took over the nanny’s duties. Every day, she walked to the school to pick Sunny up, and the two would stroll home slowly, catching butterflies, picking flowers, and admiring the sunset. This further deepened their already maxed-out mother-daughter bond, making them so inseparable that even Shen Zui occasionally felt jealous.
As for whose jealousy it was…
Sang Nian couldn’t get a straight answer through normal means. One day, taking advantage of Sunny’s early bedtime, she dragged her wife into the guest bedroom for a bit of “interrogation.” After forcing a satisfying confession, she offered a hypocritical apology, claiming she had neglected her wife’s feelings.
Shen Zui, whose legs were so weak she could barely get out of bed afterward: “…”
The next day, Sang Nian packed her things and began accompanying Shen Zui to work. She occupied the CEO’s office without doing a lick of actual work, clocking out early at exactly 4:00 PM under the pretext of “picking up President Shen’s eldest daughter.”
The stressed HR director responsible for attendance finally summoned the courage to send an email to President Shen requesting special handling for this “employee,” only to be ruthlessly rejected. The director had to visit the CEO’s office in person to explain.
After hearing the explanation, Shen Zui furrowed her brows in disbelief. “She expects a salary with that kind of work ethic?” She followed with a cold snort. “I can’t give it to her.”
“But…” The HR director smiled sheepishly. “Miss Sang entered herself into the system as a full-time employee. Not paying her a salary violates labor laws.”
Shen Zui rubbed her temples. “Deduct a portion of my salary and give it to her.”
That was easy enough to manage. The HR director asked, “How much should be transferred?”
Shen Zui had already picked up the documents on her desk. “…Give it all to her.”
When the HR director left, their mouth was still hanging open in shock.
The following day, when the first of the month arrived, Sang Nian was having lunch with her wife when she suddenly received a bank notification. She checked it several times, and when she snapped out of it, the disposable spoon in her hand felt heavier than gold.
She looked at Shen Zui in terror. “…Being your assistant pays seven figures a month?”
Shen Zui was eating a shrimp Sang Nian had peeled for her and didn’t even look up.
Sang Nian calculated the annual income in her head, compared the labor required for both her jobs, and said decisively, “I’m quitting my job at Chengyue to work for you!”
Shen Zui let out a soft laugh. “What happened to ‘the head of the household must bear the burden of providing’?”
“Purely my youthful ignorance,” Sang Nian said, clasping her wife’s hand with glowing eyes. “Having a wife to provide for me is my greatest glory! I am proud and honored to be a kept woman!”
Shen Zui gave a haughty “Hmph,” looking so noble and elegant that Sang Nian couldn’t look away. Yet, Shen Zui didn’t pull her hand away, allowing the “gigolo” to touch her hand while whispering sweet nothings.
But back to the little princess.
The “kept woman” who had just received her salary was walking with a spring in her step. However, when she went to pick up the little princess as usual, she found her daughter looking a bit mopey. After a heart-to-heart, the little princess looked at her and made a request.
“Mommy.”
“Mhm?”
“Next time you pick me up from school…” Sunny hugged her neck and acted spoiled. “Can you dress up a bit more beautifully?”
Sang Nian was stunned. “Why?”
Her private style was very casual. Lately, she had dressed a bit more formally to accompany her wife to work, but usually, she picked Sunny up wearing just a T-shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap pulled low to hide her face. Of course, with her height and long legs, even the basic outfit was striking.
“Shangguan Qun’s daddy is handsome; he drives a big car every time he picks him up,” Sunny pouted. “I said my Mommy is prettier than him, but no one believed me!”
Sang Nian nodded in realization. While she found it funny, she fully understood her daughter’s social needs. It was a bit tricky; Sunny was still so young, and exposing her identity as a famous star wasn’t ideal for the child’s growth.
But soon, Sang Nian had a flash of inspiration. “Mommy has a better idea!”
Sunny perked up instantly. “Mhm?”
Sang Nian smirked. “Mommy just got her salary, and she’s very rich. Why don’t we invite your classmates to the villa this weekend? Mommy will host them properly!”
Sunny didn’t quite understand the strategy, but her adoration for her Mommy was unconditional, so she agreed immediately.
Sunday arrived.
Early in the morning, the stylist and makeup artist Sang Nian had booked arrived at the door. She got up quietly, not waking her wife or daughter, and hid in the second-floor walk-in closet to get ready.
When Shen Zui discovered her, she was somewhat speechless, staring at her radiant partner and not knowing where to start the critique.
Sang Nian even asked her, “Do you think I can win the hearts of Sunny’s classmates like this?”
“…” Shen Zui was silent for a moment. “Aren’t you more likely to win the hearts of her classmates’ parents?”
Sang Nian, who was adjusting her bangs, burst into laughter. She leaned in and gave Shen Zui a kiss on the cheek. “Aww, don’t be jealous. I’m doing this for a good cause!”
Her efforts were not in vain. Two hours later, the invited children arrived at the door and collectively stared at her for a long time.
“Wow—I think I’ve seen this auntie on TV.” “Nini, your Mommy is so pretty.” “Auntie, here is a flower for you.”
Sang Nian maintained a perfect celebrity smile, handing out cake to the children while winking at her daughter.
From then on, whenever the topic of parents’ looks came up at the kindergarten, Sunny never bragged first, but she also never lost.
