- Chapter 49 - The Hardest Things in This World
Gu Qiuyi was eager to give it a try. “Don’t you want to try?”
“No,” Chu Yueguang replied coldly.
And why was he the one being held instead of him being the one doing the holding?
“That’s a pity,” Gu Qiuyi said regretfully. “I really wanted to try it, especially since the wind is so strong right now.”
Chu Yueguang remained silent for a moment before saying, “Wait until the ship starts moving.”
“!! Really?” Gu Qiuyi exclaimed. “You’re willing to try it with me?”
“Depends on my mood,” Chu Yueguang replied reservedly.
Gu Qiuyi cheered. “Hooray!”
Chu Yueguang turned his head slightly, his gaze falling on Gu Qiuyi. A small smile played on the boy’s face, revealing a sharp canine tooth on one side, making him look exceptionally lively and cute.
At this time of year, the sun set late. The golden sunlight bathed Gu Qiuyi, coating his fair skin in a layer of warm light. Even his amber eyes took on a clear, watery luster.
Gu Qiuyi’s skin was very white, his lips were red, and his nose was straight and well-formed. The soft curve of his cheeks made him look as though he hadn’t quite hit his growth spurt yet.
Chu Yueguang found himself staring, lost in thought.
Chu Yueguang’s own skin was also fair, but it was a “cold” white that seemed to glow in any environment. Gu Qiuyi’s whiteness, however, was a “warm” white with a healthy, radiant sheen. He was full of youthful energy, shining like a pearl in the sunlight.
Unaware of Chu Yueguang’s gaze, Gu Qiuyi grabbed the railing to look at the seawater below. “When does the ship start moving?”
“At the forty-minute mark,” Chu Yueguang answered slowly. He was still acting a bit aloof, his voice cold.
Gu Qiuyi pulled out his phone to check the time. “Ten minutes to go. Almost there!”
He turned to look at Chu Yueguang. “Yueguang-gege, you—”
Before he could finish his sentence, his eyes locked onto Chu Yueguang’s face.
Chu Yueguang frowned, looking displeased. “What are you looking at me for?”
Gu Qiuyi didn’t speak, he just continued to stare.
Chu Yueguang turned his face away, avoiding the boy’s gaze.
Only then did Gu Qiuyi speak up: “Brother, your face seems a bit red.”
“Is it sunburned?” Gu Qiuyi asked. “But the sun isn’t that strong right now.”
“I have the kind of constitution where blood easily rushes to my face,” Chu Yueguang said calmly. “Don’t overthink it.”
“Oh, I see,” Gu Qiuyi said. His gaze fell on the back of Chu Yueguang’s head as he whispered, “But seriously, Brother, you’re really handsome. Your forehead is so full, your nose is so high, and your jawline is especially nice. You’re really handsome and cool.”
Chu Yueguang’s ears perked up at the compliment, though his voice remained icy. “There’s no need to flatter me to get on my good side. It’s unnecessary.”
Gu Qiuyi’s eyes widened. “Brother, you’ve wronged me! I didn’t praise you just to suck up to you. I truly think so! You really are handsome! It’s a fact! I didn’t exaggerate at all.”
The corners of Chu Yueguang’s mouth twitched upward, but as if remembering something, the smile vanished. “You’ve probably said that to a lot of people,” he said indifferently.
“No, I haven’t,” Gu Qiuyi replied. “I rarely praise people for their looks.”
“Oh?” Chu Yueguang’s tone was skeptical.
“I’m telling the truth,” Gu Qiuyi said, his tone dropping. “If you don’t believe me, forget it. I know that in your eyes, I must be a crooked liar who loves sweet-talking people. It’s only natural for you to think that of me, since I did do something wrong. It’s normal for you to hold a grudge.”
Chu Yueguang’s heart wavered violently. In truth, he didn’t feel much about that past incident anymore; if anything, he felt a great deal of pity for Gu Qiuyi. However, it would be strange to just start chatting as if nothing had happened—it would make him seem too spineless.
After a moment of mental gymnastics, Chu Yueguang spoke: “I believe you.”
“Believe me about what?” Gu Qiuyi asked.
“I believe you when you say I’m handsome.”
“…” After all that I said, he only replies to that one part?
“Waaaa, it’s so good that Brother believes me,” Gu Qiuyi managed to say.
At that moment, the ship started moving. Jiang Hansa walked out and found them. “Gu Qiuyi, dinner is served. Are you coming?”
Gu Qiuyi handed his phone to Jiang Hansa. “Hansa-ge, help us take a photo!”
Jiang Hansa looked at Chu Yueguang, then at Gu Qiuyi. “How do you want it taken?”
“Wait a second,” Gu Qiuyi said. He turned to Chu Yueguang. “Brother, are you ready?”
Chu Yueguang looked at him and said, “I’ll hold you.”
Gu Qiuyi hesitated. “No… I have a lot of ticklish spots on my waist. I’m afraid of being tickled.”
“Then forget it,” Chu Yueguang said.
“Fine, fine, you can hold me,” Gu Qiuyi said bashfully. He added, “After we’re done, Brother, you help me take a photo with Hansa-ge too.”
“?” Chu Yueguang frowned. “You want to take one with someone else too?”
Jiang Hansa quickly intervened, “Count me out.”
Gu Qiuyi waved his hand. “No way! This shouldn’t be a classic for only two people. Hansa-ge, after this, I’ll hold you and we’ll take one too.”
“…” Chu Yueguang didn’t quite understand Gu Qiuyi’s logic. He thought there was some hidden meaning in this gesture, but it turned out anyone could do it?
Before Chu Yueguang could say anything else, Gu Qiuyi scrambled up onto the railing and gave him a brilliant smile. “Quick, Brother, come hold me!”
“!!” Jiang Hansa’s heart nearly leaped out of his chest. “Gu Qiuyi, don’t joke around! This isn’t funny. What if you fall?”
“Don’t worry,” Gu Qiuyi said confidently. “I’m not afraid of water. I can swim!”
“Damn it,” Jiang Hansa snapped. “Is this a question of whether you can swim or not?”
Chu Yueguang also spoke up: “Get down. We’ll take the photo then. This is the bow of the ship. If you fall, you’ll be sucked under the hull and into the propellers. You’d be lucky to escape with half your life.”
“…” Gu Qiuyi cautiously climbed down. “Sorry, I forgot about that.”
Chu Yueguang said sternly, “Don’t apologize to me. This is your own life. If you don’t cherish it, who else will care?”
Gu Qiuyi gave a dry laugh. “I really didn’t notice.”
Chu Yueguang walked over and tilted his chin up. “Aren’t we taking the photo?”
Gu Qiuyi leaned against the railing and spread his arms. Chu Yueguang placed his hands firmly on the boy’s waist. Gu Qiuyi couldn’t help but laugh. “It tickles! Hahaha!”
Chu Yueguang tightened his grip. “Still ticklish?”
Gu Qiuyi felt the pressure. His voice wasn’t as loud as before, replaced by a bashful tone he didn’t even recognize himself. “It doesn’t tickle so much now, but… Brother, your hands are so hot.”
As he spoke, a strange heat seeped into his heart, like sparks flying from Chu Yueguang’s palms, scattering across his heart. Chu Yueguang’s breathing grew slightly heavy. Both of them felt a sense of awkwardness that the other didn’t notice.
The wind brushed past their cheeks. Chu Yueguang smelled the scent of orange blossoms on Gu Qiuyi, which, combined with the boy’s body heat, created a warm, sun-drenched aroma. The waist beneath his palms was so slender that his two hands could almost meet.
“Hansa-ge, did you get it?” Gu Qiuyi’s clear, sweet voice rang out.
Jiang Hansa didn’t understand why Gu Qiuyi wanted to imitate the classic Titanic shot, but since Chu Yueguang was cooperating, he wasn’t going to kill the mood. He found a good angle, snapped a few photos, and said, “Done.”
Gu Qiuyi let out a sigh of relief and turned around. His gaze fell on Chu Yueguang, and he froze. “Why is your face so red?” he asked in surprise.
“…” Chu Yueguang asked coldly, “Is it?”
“Yeah, it’s really red!”
Chu Yueguang touched his face. It wasn’t actually that hot; it was purely because his cold-white skin showed even the slightest emotional fluctuation easily. For this same reason, Chu Yueguang rarely drank alcohol.
Chu Yueguang stared at Gu Qiuyi and said in a strange tone, “Your face is very red too.”
Gu Qiuyi touched his own face, looking a bit dazed. “Is it?”
The two of them belatedly realized something was off. Was that too intimate just now? But they hadn’t really done anything; it was just a hold around the waist.
Jiang Hansa, the ultimate “straight man,” didn’t notice the strange atmosphere at all. He stepped between them and showed them the screen. “Look at this. Is this okay?”
Gu Qiuyi looked at the phone and a satisfied smile spread across his face. “Perfect. It’s got that ‘vibe’.” He then showed it to Chu Yueguang. “What do you think, Brother? Are you satisfied?”
Chu Yueguang took a look. In the photo, his hands were pressing Gu Qiuyi’s loose T-shirt against his skin, revealing a slender waistline. His face instantly heated up again, and his voice went a bit husky. “It’s fine.”
Gu Qiuyi looked from Chu Yueguang to Jiang Hansa. “How about you two take one together?”
Leaving behind a quick “I’m going back,” Chu Yueguang strode away.
Jiang Hansa walked over and ruffled Gu Qiuyi’s hair. “You’re crazy, asking me and Chu Yueguang to do that.”
“It’s all in good fun,” Gu Qiuyi said righteously. “What’s wrong with that?”
“Only you would dare to play around like that,” Jiang Hansa muttered.
Gu Qiuyi touched his own side and couldn’t help but think: His hands were so hot. He felt a bit confused. He looked at Jiang Hansa, hesitated, and then said, “Hansa-ge, why don’t you give me a hug?”
Jiang Hansa looked horrified. “What for?”
Gu Qiuyi patted his waist. “Just hug me, just once.”
“Don’t do that,” Jiang Hansa said. “I’m scared. I don’t want to.”
“Just once!” Gu Qiuyi shouted. “It won’t kill you!”
“No! That request is so gay. I’m a straight man, don’t ‘gay’ me, okay?”
“…” Gu Qiuyi pouted. “Then, Dad, won’t you hug your precious baby?”
Jiang Hansa’s expression twisted. “Damn, that’s even weirder. Don’t desecrate the title of ‘Dad’, okay?”
Gu Qiuyi looked aggrieved. “Then what do I have to do to get you to hug me?”
Jiang Hansa took a deep breath and asked, “So why do you even want me to hug you?”
Gu Qiuyi’s expression turned solemn. “When Chu Yueguang hugged me just now, my whole body went numb.”
“And… so?”
Gu Qiuyi covered his face. “So I got hard, waaaa.”
Jiang Hansa gave him a thumbs up. “You’re something else!”
“It can’t be that I’m just too slutty, right?” Gu Qiuyi asked. “I’m clearly not that kind of person!”
“…” Jiang Hansa covered his ears. No, he didn’t want to hear this. Why was he, a straight man, being tortured like this?
Gu Qiuyi continued to pester him. “Hansa-ge, why do you think that happened?”
Jiang Hansa’s expression went numb. “What else could it be? Your waist is an erogenous zone. Don’t let anyone touch your waist from now on.”
Gu Qiuyi let out a sigh of relief. “So that’s it.” He then added bashfully, “But after all, I am a high school boy. It’s actually understandable.”
He asked again, “Hansa-ge, do you know what the two hardest things in this world are?”
“I don’t particularly want to know.”
Gu Qiuyi put his hands over his heart. “It’s a high school boy’s d*ck and Hansa-ge’s heart.”
Damn you, you dead gay.
