- Chapter 48 - A Classic Reenactment of the Titanic
The time for the meeting with Kou Huai soon arrived, and Jiang Hansa brought Gu Qiuyi to the designated location.
Kou Huai spotted them immediately and waved frantically at Gu Qiuyi. “Chiu Chiu, over here!”
When Gu Qiuyi saw Kou Huai, his vision blurred for a moment—and for good reason. The man was wearing a flamboyant floral shirt paired with cream-colored beach shorts and flip-flops. With his hair dyed golden, he looked exactly like a gaudy, showy peacock.
Gu Qiuyi walked up to Kou Huai, eyed his golden hair, and said, “Kou Huai-gege, that color actually looks quite good on you.”
Kou Huai ran a hand through his hair. “Really? I dyed it for you. As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.” With that, he made a grand gesture. “Let’s head up.”
Gu Qiuyi looked up, taking in the full sight of the yacht, and couldn’t help but exhale in admiration. “It’s so huge.”
As Jiang Hansa led him up the stairs, he whispered, “Stay calm. Don’t look like Grandma Jia entering the Grand View Garden.”
Gu Qiuyi did his best to maintain a composed expression.
Kou Huai followed behind them as they entered. “There aren’t many people this time—just twenty or thirty. Chiu Chiu, if you think it’s too crowded, you can head to a private room.”
“No need,” Gu Qiuyi said. “I like it when it’s lively.”
Kou Huai felt a pang of phantom stomach pain at the mention of the word “lively.”
Gu Qiuyi scanned the room and spotted Chu Yueguang. He was sitting by a window sipping a drink. A beautiful girl sat across from him, trying to strike up a conversation. Despite his icy expression, the girl didn’t back down and continued talking to him with a bright smile.
Kou Huai took this in and whispered insincerely to Gu Qiuyi, “Chu Yueguang is very popular. I bet at least eight out of ten girls here are interested in him.”
Gu Qiuyi nodded in agreement. “That makes sense. After all, Yueguang-gege is the handsomest person here.”
Kou Huai: “??!” This isn’t the reaction I was expecting!
…But then again, maybe this was a good thing? If he could say something like that so matter-of-factly, it meant Gu Qiuyi had no romantic feelings for Chu Yueguang! Otherwise, he definitely wouldn’t have that attitude. Thinking this, Kou Huai felt much better.
At that moment, Chu Yueguang seemed to notice their gaze. He glanced sideways, saw them, and tapped on the table. He said a few words to the girl; she turned to look, her smile fading slightly as she stood up and gave up her seat.
Before Kou Huai could say anything, Gu Qiuyi had already walked over. “Yueguang-gege!”
Chu Yueguang gave a reserved nod. “What do you want to drink?”
Gu Qiuyi looked at the beautiful girl. He could tell she likely came from a very wealthy, well-bred family. She had an air of elegance, a great figure, and was incredibly pretty—to the point where even though he liked men, he couldn’t help but stare at her. No one dislikes looking at a beauty.
As Gu Qiuyi’s gaze lingered on her, the men in the room grew tense.
Kou Huai strode over and patted the girl’s shoulder. “Wanjun, why don’t you go sit over there?”
Zhu Wanjun forced a smile back onto her face. “Is this your friend?”
Kou Huai nodded vigorously. Zhu Wanjun didn’t say anything more; she turned and sat at a nearby table. Being beautiful and elegant, she didn’t lack for suitors, and soon other men approached to chat with her.
Kou Huai breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing Gu Qiuyi still glancing her way, his mouth twitched. Is this kid actually bisexual? That would be truly ridiculous.
Chu Yueguang’s expression wasn’t great either, but he held his composure, quickly returning to his cold, indifferent mask.
Gu Qiuyi, oblivious as usual, said to Jiang Hansa, “Hansa-ge, did you see that? Wasn’t that jie-jie just now really pretty?”
Jiang Hansa: “…” Under the combined weight of Kou Huai and Chu Yueguang’s stares, he felt immense pressure!
Seeing him silent, Gu Qiuyi pressed on: “Hansa-ge, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“She was indeed quite nice,” Jiang Hansa managed to say.
Gu Qiuyi asked again, “Is she your type? She looks about 170 cm—very much the yujie type, and her smile is so cute.”
Jiang Hansa: “!”
Gu Qiuyi’s eyes were full of encouragement. “Hansa-ge, if you like her, be bold and go for it! I’ll be behind you, supporting you silently!”
Jiang Hansa was a bit touched. “You were looking at her for that long… for me?”
Gu Qiuyi nodded. “Why else? I don’t like girls, so of course I was checking her out for you.”
Just as Jiang Hansa was about to speak, Kou Huai interjected, “Hansa, don’t even think about it. Wanjun’s standards are very high; you don’t meet her requirements.”
Jiang Hansa: “…”
“What are her requirements?” Gu Qiuyi asked.
“Height must be over 185 cm,” Kou Huai said. “None of her ex-boyfriends have been shorter than 185. She’s 175 herself, and in heels, she hits 185. Her boyfriend can’t be shorter than her.”
Gu Qiuyi said defensively, “But Hansa-ge is only eighteen. He can still grow!”
“That’s a tall order,” Kou Huai said. “That would take a few more years, at least.”
Seeing the two about to start an argument, Jiang Hansa quickly intervened. “Forget it, forget it. I’m not in the mood for that anyway. The college entrance exams are coming up; I’m not going to start dating right now.”
Chu Yueguang spoke up: “Aren’t you tired of standing?”
The group finally sat down. Kou Huai remained standing and asked, “What do you all want to drink?”
Gu Qiuyi raised his hand. “Orange juice!”
“What orange juice? Drink wine!” Kou Huai insisted.
“We’re all adults,” Jiang Hansa noted, “but Gu Qiuyi isn’t. He’s seventeen—a minor.”
“What’s there to be afraid of?” Kou Huai scoffed. “I started drinking at fourteen. A little bit won’t hurt.” With that, he called a waiter over to bring several glasses of red wine.
“The alcohol content isn’t high. It’s fine to have a little,” Kou Huai told Gu Qiuyi.
Gu Qiuyi took a glass, took a sip, and smacked his lips. “It’s sweet. It’s actually quite good.”
Kou Huai looked at him with eyes full of affection. “I knew you’d like it.”
Chu Yueguang stood up. “I’m going to get some air.” He then walked out.
As soon as Chu Yueguang was gone, Kou Huai—completely ignoring Jiang Hansa—tried to reach for Gu Qiuyi’s hand. Just as his fingers brushed Gu Qiuyi’s, the boy immediately retracted his hand. His lips were flushed red, and his voice was clear with a hint of sweetness: “Kou Huai-gege, don’t take advantage of me.”
“Chiu Chiu, you’re breaking my heart! We haven’t seen each other in so long; I can’t even hold your hand?”
“Kou Huai-gege, stop acting like a thirsty flirt.”
Kou Huai: “If I don’t flirt, would you even give me a chance?”
Gu Qiuyi couldn’t help but laugh. Seeing his opening, Kou Huai reached for his hand again. But before he could even register the sensation, Jiang Hansa reached out—like the Queen Mother of the West separating the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl—and pulled their hands apart. “Baby, you’re sweating. Why don’t you go to the deck to get some air too?”
Gu Qiuyi didn’t think much of it. “Great idea! You guys chat; I’m going to get some air.” He stood up and headed out.
Kou Huai stared silently at Jiang Hansa. Jiang Hansa gave him a slightly apologetic smile and said, “This wine is actually pretty good.”
“What’s your deal?” Kou Huai demanded. “Did you do that on purpose?”
” I don’t think that’s right,” Jiang Hansa said. “You’re not in a relationship; taking advantage of him isn’t good.”
Kou Huai was speechless. “It’s not like you don’t know the situation. I’m waiting for him to get into university! Once he’s in, we’ll naturally start dating.”
“Are you serious about Gu Qiuyi?” Jiang Hansa asked.
“Of course I’m serious!” Kou Huai said categorically.
“Then will you marry him in the future?” Jiang Hansa pressed.
“??!” Kou Huai was taken aback. “What’s with the marriage talk? We haven’t even started dating yet, and you’re talking about marriage?”
Jiang Hansa emphasized, “I’m just making a hypothesis. If your feelings grow and you both really love each other, will you end up getting married?”
Kou Huai hesitated.
Looking at his expression, Jiang Hansa knew the answer. “Huai-ge, you already know Chiu Chiu’s attitude toward feelings. If you can’t take responsibility for the rest of his life, I think it’s better if you don’t provoke him.”
Kou Huai felt a mix of shame and annoyance. “Whatever happens between me and him is none of your business!”
“He calls me ‘Dad’, after all,” Jiang Hansa said softly. “Of course I have to look out for him.”
Unaware of the conversation between Kou Huai and Jiang Hansa, Gu Qiuyi walked out onto the deck. He hadn’t gone far when he spotted Chu Yueguang.
He hesitated for a split second, but the feeling quickly vanished. He walked up to Chu Yueguang’s side and called out, “Yueguang-gege!”
Chu Yueguang glanced at him, then turned away. The corners of his mouth twitched upward slightly before he suppressed the smile. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to get some air too,” Gu Qiuyi replied.
Chu Yueguang thought to himself: He came to find me. But he didn’t call him out on it.
The wind made Gu Qiuyi squint his eyes. He spread his arms wide and asked, “Brother, have you ever seen the Titanic?”
“I have,” Chu Yueguang replied.
“There’s a very classic scene in that movie,” Gu Qiuyi said. “The one where Jack is holding Rose on the deck.”
Chu Yueguang gave a reserved “mhm.”
“Do you want to learn it?” Gu Qiuyi asked.
“I’ll hold you from behind, you spread your arms, and we’ll reenact a classic!” Gu Qiuyi said excitedly.
Chu Yueguang: “…” That sounds incredibly stupid.
