- The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All
- Chapter 79 - No Longer a Biological Younger Sister
Direct relatives—
Jin Xi froze for a moment. A second later, she frowned. “Xiaojin, what are you talking about?”
“Save Uncle…”
“I said…” Xu Chengjin slowly stood up straight. Her face was deathly pale, but every word was exceptionally clear. “You are a child of the Xu family. You cannot give blood to Xu Hao.”
Jin Xi’s face was a complete blank, unsure of what expression to make. She looked at Wu Boran in a daze, her mind a chaotic mess as Xu Chengjin’s words echoed repeatedly in her ears.
She was a child of the Xu family? Was she not Chen Fang’s biological daughter?
“What are you all doing standing here?”
Xu Jing came running over. As soon as she arrived, she saw the group standing together, and noted the subtle, uneasy expression on the doctor’s face. “Doctor, what happened to my father?”
The moment she finished speaking, she caught sight of the pale-faced Xu Chengjin. “Xiaojin, what’s wrong with you?”
“I…”
Xu Chengjin wanted to say something, but the words died in her throat and she could only lower her head in silence. Seeing this, Xu Jing didn’t want to waste any more time. She immediately spoke with the doctor. After confirming the situation, she cooperated with the hospital to donate blood and then began the anxious wait for blood from the blood bank to arrive.
“Xiaojin.”
Mother Xu arrived after finishing her own examination. Her face and legs were wrapped in gauze, making her walk unsteady, but she had rushed over out of worry. “How is your father?”
Xu Chengjin didn’t speak. She lifted her head and stared blankly at the woman before her. Seeing that things weren’t right, Wu Boran lowered his voice. “Compatible blood has already been sent in. He is still in surgery.”
“Mm.” Mother Xu only gave a light response. She looked at Xu Chengjin’s abnormal state and comforted her softly, “Are you worried about Papa? Don’t worry, everything will be fine.”
Sitting beside Xu Chengjin, Jin Xi licked her lips. Though she didn’t quite believe Xu Chengjin’s words, she couldn’t stop herself from looking at Mother Xu. If… she really was her mother, would her life be different from now on?
Jin Xi did not hide her gaze well. Her burning stare caught Mother Xu’s attention. “You’re Jin Xi, right? Is there something you want to say to Auntie?”
“No, I just—”
“Mom.”
Xu Chengjin suddenly grabbed Mother Xu’s wrist, finally showing a reaction. “I did a paternity test before.”
“Why did you do that?” Mother Xu couldn’t understand at all. “Did you suspect you weren’t my child?”
“No.”
Xu Chengjin jerked her head up. There wasn’t a single tear on her face, but there was no color either. She moved her lips. “That was a paternity test between you and Jin Xi.”
Her words were like a sudden clap of thunder. Mother Xu froze where she stood, completely unable to process this fact. Xu Chengjin gave a self-mocking twist of her lips. “Mom, I am indeed not your child.”
Clang—
The sound of an object hitting the floor drew everyone’s attention. Xu Chengjin subconsciously turned her head and saw Xu Jing, who had just rushed over. Xu Jing stood there as if frozen in place, motionless.
“Why would you go and do a test for no reason?”
Mother Xu slowly stood up. She stumbled, but Xu Jing stepped forward and caught her firmly. Mother Xu looked puzzled. “When did you find out?”
Xu Chengjin’s lips moved. She stood up, her tone pained. “A long time ago. I’ve known for a very long time.”
“Don’t joke with us.”
Mother Xu instinctively refused to believe it. She looked at Jin Xi, then back at Xu Chengjin. “Now is not the time to throw a tantrum.”
“I’m not throwing a tantrum.”
Xu Chengjin denied it softly. “I’m not.”
“I knew I wasn’t your daughter when I was fifteen.” Xu Chengjin lowered her head and blinked. She felt the scene before her growing blurry. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Mother Xu was stunned. She gripped Xu Jing’s hand tightly. Those few sentences left her in a state of shock; she knew Xu Chengjin wouldn’t make a joke like this.
“I think it’s better to do another test. After all, accidents can happen.” Xu Jing steadied her voice. She glanced at Jin Xi, her heart also unwilling to believe it. “Let’s wait until the surgery is over to talk about this, okay?”
Xu Chengjin kept her head down and refused to speak. She hadn’t expected the truth to be exposed at this moment. She choked back a sob, and only after hearing Xu Jing’s voice did she slowly look up. “Mom.”
“Why didn’t you say anything before!”
Mother Xu pushed Xu Jing’s hand away. She walked up to Xu Chengjin, her eyes rimmed with red. “You knew for so long, why didn’t you say anything?”
“I…”
Xu Chengjin was startled by Mother Xu. She retreated two steps in a panic. Already consumed by fear, she could no longer hear or see anything. Her hands trembled violently. She lowered her head and gasped for breath, failing to see the panicked look in Mother Xu’s eyes.
“I’m sorry, Mom.”
Xu Chengjin’s tears finally overflowed. She coughed twice, her body going weak as she collapsed toward the floor. In the next second, she was choked by the blood in her mouth. “I didn’t—”
I didn’t mean to.
None of this was my intention.
Blood stained Mother Xu’s palms. She immediately lunged forward to catch Xu Chengjin, her voice trembling. “Doctor! Call a doctor over!”
“Mom didn’t mean to be mean to you, Mom was just anxious.” Mother Xu watched as more and more blood choked out of Xu Chengjin’s mouth. She couldn’t stop her tears. “Xiaojin, Xiaojin, don’t sleep. You can’t sleep.”
Jin Xi was also terrified. She knelt down and grabbed Xu Chengjin’s hand, nearly losing her voice. “Xiaojin…”
Wu Boran looked at them and immediately went with Xu Jing to find help. “Doctor!”
“Someone collapsed here—”
“The patient is in a critical period. You need to keep a close eye on her condition for the next two days.”
Xu Chengjin lay in the ICU, connected to many tubes. Her face was pale, like a lifeless doll.
Mother Xu stood outside looking at Xu Chengjin. Her eyes reddened instantly, though her tone remained somewhat normal. “Is the identification out?”
Father Xu was out of danger. Mother Xu hadn’t told him about this yet, instead having Xu Jing rush to get the paternity test done as quickly as possible.
“It’s out. Jin Xi is indeed part of our family, and Xiaojin…”
Xu Jing looked at Xu Chengjin lying inside. At first, she truly couldn’t accept this fact—that her biological sister had suffered outside for so many years. Furthermore, why Jin Xi was taken away and how they were switched were all questions that needed answers.
“Dabao, Mom knows how you feel about Xiaojin, but—”
“Mom.”
Xu Jing interrupted Mother Xu. She turned to face her, her eyes revealing an intensity and madness never seen before. “She is no longer my younger sister.”
“At the very least, she is not my biological sister anymore.”
