- The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All
- Chapter 78 - Immediate Relatives Cannot Donate Blood
Father Xu and Mother Xu were hit by a car on their way home. Father Xu had been driving at the time; the two of them had originally planned to go out and enjoy themselves for a while before returning home, thinking it was a rare opportunity to relax. They never expected that this very decision would lead to a head-on collision with a sedan. Father Xu had instinctively swerved to protect his side, so Mother Xu’s injuries were not as severe, though she had still sustained significant harm.
“Mom.”
Xu Chengjin and Xu Jing rushed to the scene. At the same time, Jin Xi and Wu Boran, sensing that something was wrong, hurriedly followed. Mother Xu was sitting at the entrance of the operating room; her arms and legs had received simple first-aid treatment, but they were not yet fully bandaged. A nurse stood beside her, trying to persuade her to treat her own wounds first, but no matter what was said, Mother Xu did not move.
“You…”
Xu Jing’s breathing was rapid. She quickly glanced at the wounds on Mother Xu’s body and, suppressing her emotions, said, “Please, let them treat your wounds first, okay? I will wait here for Dad, and Xiaojin is here too. Our whole family is here.”
It was only after hearing Xu Jing’s voice that Mother Xu showed a slight reaction. She lifted her head to look over, and in the next second, tears began to fall. However, she quickly wiped them away herself: “This was murder.”
“I know.”
Xu Jing knelt down in front of Mother Xu. Her own eyes were rimmed with red, but she did her best to soothe Mother Xu’s emotions: “Go with the doctor to get your wounds dressed first. Otherwise, when Dad comes out and sees you like this, he won’t feel good about it, right?”
Mother Xu lowered her head and took a deep breath. After sniffing back her tears, she finally agreed to stand up and follow the doctor to have her wounds bandaged. Xu Chengjin originally wanted to go with her, but she was turned down.
“Sister.”
Xu Chengjin’s face was pale. She had never encountered such a thing before. When she saw that Mother Xu was covered in blood just now, her heart had instantly trembled: “Nothing bad will happen, right?”
“It won’t. Don’t worry.”
Xu Jing patted Xu Chengjin on the back. In truth, her heart was also full of unease, but on the surface, she could not allow any hint of cowardice to show.
Jin Xi and Wu Boran stood behind the two of them, their expressions also very solemn; no one wanted to see such an event take place.
“You must be the family of the victim.” Police officers suddenly arrived at the hospital. Xu Chengjin trembled all over and instinctively hid behind Xu Jing for a moment, only regaining her composure enough to face them after a short while.
Xu Jing shot a quick look at Xu Chengjin, and seeing that she was alright, retracted her gaze: “I am. My name is Xu Jing.”
“It’s like this: regarding this car accident, there are some details we need to inquire about. Is it convenient? It won’t take too much of your time; we just need to find a place to make a record.”
“It’s convenient.”
Xu Jing nodded. She turned to look at Xu Chengjin and whispered her instructions: “I’m going to cooperate with the investigation. You stay here alone and wait for Mom to come back. Jin Xi and Wu Boran are here too. Don’t be afraid; I’ll be back very soon.”
“Mhm.” Xu Chengjin also knew that now was not the time to throw a fit. She forced a smile, trying her best to look relaxed: “Don’t worry, I’m not a child anymore.”
Hearing this, Xu Jing sighed silently. She said nothing more, turned around, and followed the police.
“Xiaojin.”
Jin Xi walked to Xu Chengjin’s side and squeezed her shoulder: “It’s okay. We are all here.”
Xu Chengjin forced a smile and found a seat to sit down. She hadn’t expected the three of them to be separated so quickly upon arriving. She stared at the red light of the operating room, and the unease in her heart refused to dissipate. Sure enough, they hadn’t been sitting for long before a doctor came out: “Who is the family of Xu Hao!”
“I am!”
Xu Chengjin stepped forward quickly, her expression anxious: “What happened to my father?”
“The situation is very critical. Sign this first. Furthermore, the blood bank is currently running low; is there anyone with Type O blood willing to donate!”
The doctor’s words made Xu Chengjin’s legs go weak. She held the pen and signed her name with shaky strokes, tears welling in her eyes but refusing to fall. She handed the notice back to the doctor nearby, murmuring under her breath: “Type O blood.”
She was Type O, and… they did not have a biological father-daughter relationship. She could donate blood.
Before Xu Chengjin had the chance to speak, Jin Xi rushed forward: “I can donate! I’m Type O.”
“No!”
Xu Chengjin’s physical reaction was much faster than her brain. She immediately grabbed Jin Xi’s arm, looking at her with a complex gaze: “No, you can’t.”
Jin Xi looked bewildered: “Why? You’re not feeling guilty, are you? This is a matter of life and death.”
“Anyone can, but you are the only one who can’t.”
Xu Chengjin gripped Jin Xi’s wrist deathly tight. She opened her mouth, feeling as though the words that followed were beyond her control. She staggered a few steps, nearly falling to her knees, but was caught just in time by Wu Boran. She tilted her head back, gasping for air. In reality, she could no longer hear what she was saying; the ringing in her ears and a sensation of drowning caused her tears to fall uncontrollably. She choked back a sob, remembering only that she had opened her mouth to say:
“Immediate relatives cannot donate blood—”
