- The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All
- Chapter 76 - Open the Door, I’m Your Roommate
The day Si Yu returned happened to be the same day Xu Chengjin went back to the Xu family home. She had been running a slight fever for the past two days. At first, she hadn’t noticed it; she only started feeling dizzy halfway through class. At the time, Jin Xi had sensed something was wrong and asked if she wanted to return to the dormitory, but Xu Chengjin refused directly, thinking she was just lightheaded from not eating much. Who would have guessed that she would nearly collapse the moment she returned to the dorm?
Wu Boran was so frightened that her tears almost fell. Afterward, Xu Chengjin made another trip to the hospital. The doctor said the illness was caused by the rapid fluctuation in temperature and told her to take measures to stay warm. With no other choice, Xu Chengjin had to return to the Xu residence to recover.
“Baby, there’s a banquet tonight. Are you going?”
Xu Jing placed breakfast on the table. She was dressed in simple loungewear. For the past two days, it had just been the two of them at home, as Father and Mother Xu were away on a business trip. Consequently, as long as Xu Jing was home, she prepared all three meals.
Xu Chengjin held a small piece of bread in her hand. She took a light bite and chewed. “What would I go for? I don’t know most of the people there.”
“It’s good to get some exposure. In the future, when your health is a bit better, whether you want to join the company or start your own business, it will be very beneficial.”
Xu Jing’s thinking was sound. Xu Chengjin’s overall health was currently trending in a positive direction, so she could naturally consider letting Xu Chengjin get involved in company affairs. Even if she didn’t join the company, getting to know more people wouldn’t be a bad thing.
“Mm.”
Xu Chengjin let out a yawn. She set the bread aside and pulled out a chair to sit down. Her expression was listless, and her mental state clearly didn’t look great. “Then I’ll go.”
“Are you feeling unwell?” Xu Jing peeled an egg for Xu Chengjin, looking at her with deep suspicion. “Did you not sleep well, or is something hurting?”
Xu Chengjin shook her head. She took a sip of porridge, her voice sounding exhausted. “I had dreams, so the quality of my sleep wasn’t very high.”
Last night, she had dreamed of the scene of her being murdered again. However, it seemed the person who killed her wasn’t Si Yu, but someone she had never seen before. Whenever this kind of dream occurred, Xu Chengjin would be unable to sleep and would start feeling involuntarily anxious. She had even thought that if this continued long-term, she might as well just go see a psychologist.
Furthermore, the appraisal report she had asked Si Yu’s secretary to handle had come back. Jin Xi and Mother Xu were biological mother and daughter, while she was not. None of this was a dream or a fantasy; it was an undeniable reality.
Xu Chengjin had a premonition that this matter would be exposed very soon.
“Go catch up on some sleep in a little while then.” A flash of heartache crossed Xu Jing’s eyes, and she let out a soft sigh. “I was thinking that since there isn’t much to do today, I’d take you out for a stroll.”
“A stroll where?”
Xu Chengjin laughed. “The library? A museum? The aquarium?”
Xu Jing gave Xu Chengjin a mock glare, hearing that Xu Chengjin was teasing her.
In the past, when it was just the two of them at home, Xu Jing loved taking Xu Chengjin to those places. At that time, Xu Chengjin was young and didn’t have much patience; she would often get so bored that she’d squat on the ground in a huff, and no one could coax her out of it. In the end, Xu Jing would basically carry Xu Chengjin on her back to finish touring the entire place. By the time they got into the car, Xu Chengjin would usually be fast asleep, and Xu Jing would hold her all the way home.
“How about the amusement park?” Xu Jing arched an eyebrow. “I heard they’ve launched several new activities. They aren’t very intense; I feel they’d be perfect for you.”
“What’s the name of it?”
Xu Chengjin also became interested. It had been a long time since she had been to an amusement park; if they could go this time, it might be nice.
Xu Jing said a name, and Xu Chengjin opened her phone to search for it. Before she could find the specific details, a message suddenly popped up. It was from Wu Boran .
[Open the door. I’m at your front gate.]
