The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 115
When Xu Chengjin and Si Yu spoke, their eyes were filled only with each other. Holding her phone, Xu Chengjin threw herself onto the bed; from Si Yu’s perspective, it looked as if she were lunging directly into her arms.
Si Yu was still handling work and hadn’t washed up yet. She was wearing glasses, which gave her a sort of “refined scoundrel” aesthetic. “Of course I miss you,” she said.
“You look really good in glasses.”
Xu Chengjin never held back her praise, especially since this was her lover—and the fact that she truly was beautiful!
“Next time, switch to a gold frame and wear a glasses chain…” Xu Chengjin fell silent for a few seconds, her eyes drifting upward as she thought, before offering a suggestion. “Just wear a suit with it.”
As she spoke, Xu Chengjin couldn’t help but laugh. “Is that okay?”
“You like it when I dress like that?” Si Yu twirled the pen in her hand and intentionally leaned back. “Then there needs to be some form of compensation.”
Xu Chengjin pretended not to understand. She blinked, putting on an innocent face. “I’ll buy them for you.”
“When I get home tonight, I’ll make you something delicious. I learned a new recipe online today.”
Si Yu dimmed the lights in the study slightly. She was feeling quite tired, but she still had at least two hours of work to process. It was already past eight in the evening, and she wasn’t sure if she could make it to bed before midnight.
Xu Chengjin nodded, her face full of anticipation. “Okay.”
“By the way, today at the dinner table, I spoke with Xu Lihua…”
Xu Chengjin recounted the gist of her conversation with Xu Lihua to Si Yu. Finally, she said, “I think it’s her.”
“Hearing you describe it, it certainly seems like her, but from a certain perspective, it might not mean what you suspect,” Si Yu said, frowning slightly. “But since both you and Jin Xi have a strange feeling about Xu Lihua…”
“Let’s see what happens tomorrow. I think she definitely has a purpose for returning to the country this time. I’ll pick you up tomorrow. You must tell me whenever you go out, and I need to arrange a few bodyguards for you.”
Si Yu had been frightened by the previous “kidnapping.” Now, with the addition of Xu Lihua, she felt even more uneasy. It was better to be safe than sorry; she had to protect Xu Chengjin and absolutely could not let the previous incident repeat itself.
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin didn’t refuse. She understood Si Yu’s meaning perfectly and fully sympathized with her actions. Sitting cross-legged on the bed, she readily accepted the proposal.
“Then you get back to work; I’m going to play games for a bit.”
Xu Chengjin pulled out a second phone. Afraid of disturbing the other woman, she also took out her headphones. Once she was ready, she met Si Yu’s suspicious gaze. Stunned, she asked, “What is it?”
“Since when did you start playing games?” Si Yu didn’t know Xu Chengjin played such things. “Is this some ‘internet addict girl’ persona I didn’t know about?”
Xu Chengjin held up one finger and wagged it. “Just this month. I wanted to try playing some games to pass the time, though I don’t play much.”
“Originally, Jin Xi invited me to play tonight and said she’d be with Wu Boran. I didn’t think that was a good idea. Besides, they are too good at the game; I’d feel pressured.”
Both Jin Xi and Wu Boran had feelings for her. If she went to play with both of them, it would be too annoying.
“Then go ahead and play.”
Si Yu had no interest in games. Usually, her leisure time involved finding a few people to play Mahjong offline. She didn’t play for money; she just enjoyed crushing the competition.
The two went about their own business—one playing games, the other working. When it was about time, they said goodnight to each other. After hanging up, Xu Chengjin went to sleep. Her routine couldn’t be too disrupted, otherwise, she would have to take medicine for a long time again.
The next morning, Xu Chengjin got up early. When she went downstairs, she happened to run into Xu Lihua. Likely because she hadn’t adjusted to the jet lag yet, Xu Lihua had risen exceptionally early.
“Would you like a cup of coffee?”
Xu Lihua stood by the window with a cup of coffee, looking out at the garden. She was clearly smiling, yet her eyes remained cold and thin. “Oh, I forgot. Your health isn’t good right now; you can’t drink coffee.”
Xu Chengjin went to the kitchen to grab half an ear of corn. She pulled up the dating reality show she hadn’t finished watching yesterday. In a little while, the whole family would be up, and they would have to head to the reserved venue for hair and makeup. Today was an important day, and no one could afford to drop the ball.
“Why aren’t you saying hello?”
Xu Lihua walked up behind Xu Chengjin. She leaned down and whispered into her ear: “You are nothing like your mother—”
“You are a beautiful child.”
Xu Chengjin’s pupils trembled. She immediately dodged to the side to avoid Xu Lihua. Something occurred to her, and she played dumb. “What do you mean?”
“I’m saying you don’t look like your sister at all. Logically, a child raised by someone should resemble them at least a little bit.”
The smile faded from Xu Lihua’s face. She turned her head and glanced sideways at Xu Chengjin, murmuring: “It’s a pity.”
“With such a beautiful face.”
