The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 108
“Miss Xu, what’s wrong?”
The auntie’s voice suddenly drifted in. Xu Chengjin subconsciously shut the door and raised her voice, saying, “It’s nothing, don’t worry about me.”
The voice outside the door sounded somewhat muffled: “Alright, call me if you need anything.”
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin leaned her back against the door, slowly letting out a breath: “What am I panicking for?”
She slowly lifted her eyes to look around. The room was hung with photos of her; by the look of it, they ranged from when she was fifteen to twenty years old, and even her previous birthday photos had been put up.
Xu Chengjin stood up straight and walked toward the photographs. The pictures were hanging on the walls, and some were strung together with thread. On the walls, there were also paintings that Si Yu had painted herself; they were all of… Xu Chengjin, covering various stages of her life.
There were pictures of her in school uniforms, dance dresses, and casual clothes. As Xu Chengjin looked at these paintings and photos, memories slowly emerged in her mind. These didn’t seem to be things Si Yu had merely imagined, but things that had actually happened to her.
Had Si Yu started paying attention to her that early?
Then why did Xu Chengjin have no impression of it at all?
Xu Chengjin casually pulled down a photo and muttered under her breath, “Pervert.”
Fortunately, however, she could accept it—one might even say… she liked it.
Xu Chengjin placed the photo aside. Having regained her sight, everything she looked at was exceptionally clear. She bit her lip and walked toward the only desk in the room. This desk was very clean—or rather, the whole room was very clean. It seemed Si Yu came back to clean it often.
“So you liked me way back then.”
There was a hint of a smile in Xu Chengjin’s eyes as she looked at the letters placed on the desk. They were piled together; at a rough glance, there must have been over a hundred of them. Each one was addressed with the four words: “To Xu Chengjin.”
Si Yu’s handwriting was beautiful and possessed great strength, especially the three characters of “Xu Chengjin.” Whether it was Xu Chengjin’s imagination or not, she felt that Si Yu had written her name with extraordinary treasure and care.
Xu Chengjin picked up a letter at random. After a few seconds of silence, she opened it. The content inside was more like Si Yu’s diary. The very first line was: “I’m a bit tired today; I wonder how you are doing?”
Her eyelashes trembled slightly as she continued reading: “They’ve never really liked me, but that’s okay. I will still make them yield to me.”
“This afternoon…”
Most of the letters consisted of Si Yu’s daily life—the happy moments and her troubles. It wasn’t until the end of the letter that Si Yu wrote: “I know you will never see this letter, but I hope you will be safe and sound through the years.”
Xu Chengjin didn’t speak. She put down the letter and opened another one. The ending was still the same sentence… one letter, two letters, three letters—every single one ended with the same blessing.
It seemed Si Yu had never expected that they could be together.
Why?
For some reason, Xu Chengjin felt as if her heart was being gripped tightly by someone, and as if fine needles were pricking at her chest, making the tip of her nose feel sour.
She sniffled, carefully tucked the letters back in, and hung the photos back in their original positions. Everything looked as if nothing had happened—no one had walked in, and no one knew Si Yu’s secret.
The secret of that period of unrequited love.
Xu Chengjin had absolutely no memory of when she and Si Yu had met. She clearly remembered that she first saw Si Yu when she was seventeen, not fifteen. Could it be that Si Yu had noticed her one-sidedly when she was fifteen?
She sat cross-legged on the sofa. It was almost six in the evening; Si Yu should be back soon.
Just as Xu Chengjin picked up her phone to check, the door was opened. She immediately stood up to look. A person walked in holding a bouquet of baby’s breath. Seemingly wanting to give her a surprise, she even specifically hid her face. In the next second, Si Yu moved the flowers aside and looked over with a face full of smiles: “I’m back!”
“I even bought you flowers—they’re baby’s breath, especially beautiful.”
Si Yu walked up to Xu Chengjin and took the other’s hand to touch the flowers: “When your eyes are better, I’ll buy you even more—”
She suddenly widened her eyes, the image of Xu Chengjin’s approaching face reflected in her pupils.
Xu Chengjin wrapped her arms around Si Yu’s neck. She lifted her eyes to look at her, her words sounding muffled: “Si Yu.”
“I want to kiss you.”
